chapter nine: PEACH PIE
Miruka was jittery.
And for good reason.
She got ready for school in a flash, an image of a boy with black and blonde hair entering her thoughts. Grinning, she put on her shoes and laughed loudly to herself as she weaved through her house which was connected to her brother's pet store.
Opening the back door of the store, the smell of animal food hitting her like a ton of bricks. Closely, she listened to her brother humming a love song as she let her hand touch the smooth glass front desk of the shop. Quietly, she eyed her brother and skipped around him.
He was taller than her and almost completely different in appearance. He had inherited their father's pitch black hair that stuck up a lot and intimidating gaze. Freckles dotted his cheeks, while Miruka was left with blank skin and light peachy hair. The only thing they had in common was the brown eyes of their mother, which were dark a bitter coffee brown.
"Ne ~ Miruka! Do you mind feeding the budgies and Piccolo before you leave?"
Damnit. Why must I be noticed?
Miruka nodded in agreement, hiding her reluctance, snatching the bird seed and scattering it across cages. She skidded towards the white cockatoo standing on a wooden perch and threw his special food into his bowl.
He squawked deafeningly, pecking at the seeds with enthusiasm.
"Piccolo, be quiet," Miruka scolded, covering her ears and chucking the packet of seeds into a nearby bin. "You never sing yet you're always so loud during feeding time!"
"Urusai, Miru," her brother snapped, whacking her upside her hear. "You're the one being noisy."
"Get off, Satsuki!" she replied back, now hitting him with her messenger bag. "You're being annoying - plus, let me get to school!"
"Ah, Miruka-chan, your lunch!"
The siblings turned their heads instantly towards the cheery voice, eyes practically glowing at the sight of its owner.
"Onee-sama!"
"Akira!"
The infamous pair glared at each other angrily and proceeded to complain about each other to the young woman.
"Akira, honey," he called out to his wife with mocking affection to which she giggled at. "Can you please tell my sister to go to hell?"
Miruka's jaw dropped and inwardly, a demonic grin began to form.
Oh this is going to be priceless!
She widened her somehow teary eyes puppy-dog style, sending her sister in-law a sad look. "O-Onee-sama," the girl blubbered. "O-Onii-chan is making me sad! He - He's so mean!"
Akira, the definitely gorgeous, woman crossed her arms and squinted her eyes at Satsuki, her mood changing drastically. "Satsuki . . ." she growled, tapping her palm on her thigh. "Apologise to Miru-chan!"
"Aki - "
"We're delaying her from going to school!" Akira cut off sternly. "This is your fault Satsuki, always picking fights with her even when she's done nothing wrong. Look at her, how could you be mad at a face like that!"
Slyly, Miruka sent her beloved brother a smug smile, him responding by sticking his tongue out. That, in return, was given a light slap.
"Satsuki!"
"What?!" he exclaimed. "Akira, you had have to seen that."
"Satsuki, apologise or else I won't be letting you have rest of the pie I made." His jaw dropped, stuttering random sentences before giving in and letting out a 'sorry'. Akira merely sent her sister in-law a wink once he turned around to rub his sore cheek.
Miruka mouthed a 'thanks' and grinned back, rushing out of the shop and hopping on her pastel blue bike. She stuffed her bag into the light wicker basket and cackled as she started to cycle away, remembering her brother's stupid looking face.
Ha, what an idiot!
She went passed the busy roads of Tokyo, the bustling streets and forever-glowing street signs and traffic lights following her everywhere she went. The chattering of people went through the sounds of music coming from her headphones, a light series of high notes and chimes and heavy beats. Strands of hair flickered across her face as the wind blew over, a gentle breeze enveloping her. Finally, she had reached her destination.
Miruka smiled at the sight of the bike shed outside her school and hopped off the bike, slipping the black messenger bag on her shoulder. Quickly, she locked it up and ran over to the school. After greeting a few people, she finally arrived at her class, freezing at the sight of Kenma.
And becoming slightly indifferent at the bedhead.
"Kuroo-kun, get out, we have something to discuss!" she shouted, grabbing Kenma by his arm and bolting towards a non-crowded hallway. Kuroo simply just shouted 'what the hell', not bothering to stop them.
Miruka was even more jittery, moving around shiftily as Kenma tilted his head to the side. He didn't looked like he cared much, but Miruka was bound to make him crack with the news. Her smile widened, placing her hands on his strong shoulders.
"We've been invited to cosplay at Comiket in August."
If you listened closely, you could hear Kenma screaming internally.
Miruka knew he had been affected, his lip quivering whenever he was trying to hold something in. He stared at the girl as if all his wishes had come true, her smile making his heart skip a beat. She pulled him in for a hug, squeezing hard with excitement and a laugh bubbling up from her throat.
"Kenma, we've been noticed! Together! People have recommended us and requested us to appear there, Kenma!" she said at a million kilometres a second, pulling back to see his face.
He looked slightly uncomfortable, seeing as he wasn't quite used to the affection he showed her yet, so she let go and made a little bow. "Sorry, I just got excited. But are you doing it?"
"Please?"
Kenma stayed silent and unmoving for a second then nodded vigorously, although no emotion was shown on his face. Miruka squealed again, mumbling about plans and the arrangements.
The bell rang, signalling that class was about to start, and rushed back hand in hand.
Thank god she couldn't see his face blushing behind her.

The squeaking of sports shoes resonated in the gym hall while Miruka sat and ate her almost forgotten lunch. She gasped at the slice of peach pie hidden away inside a small box of tupperware, rubbing her hands with some tissue.
"Miruka-senpai, watch me do a spike on the first try!"
The team chuckled again, Kenma muttering 'impossible' and the coach stoically staring onwards and letting out a large sigh. It was a routine now, when they were practicing spiking.
Or anything really.
Lev Haiba had started making an impression on the older student, always getting her attention when he was about to do something. She sent him a thumbs up and a toothy grin but knew that he wouldn't be able to make it, so she made up a plan.
Aren't you being devious today, Miruka?
"Hey, Russian Blue! If you make this, I'll give you half a slice of my sister's homemade peach pie!"
His eyes widened, his motivation clearly increasing. Yaku bellowing with laughter at the proposition. The taller first year shouted at Kenma, telling him to 'send a good toss, setter' while he replied with a simple eye-roll.
Lev ran up the court, Kenma tossed the ball upwards. A loud slam reverberated through everyone's ears as they froze, shocked.
He made the freaking spike.
A loud chorus of screams and cheers came from the teammates, Inuoka, a middle blocker, picking Miruka up with happiness and thanking her as well as everyone else.
"Mi - Mi -Miruka-sama!"
S - Sama?
Taketora was basically blubbering at her prescence. "T - T - Thank you so much for actually helping the poor kid!" He almost dropped after bursting out the sentence, Fukunaga, a wing spiker, catching him shakily.
The coach simply hummed, murmuring something about a 'whip like spike' as he watched the team and the 'extra company'. Maybe she could be helpful at the practice match?
He walked up to her, now set down on the ground and gasping for air from the close crowd the boys had made while Lev was now splitting the pie slice with almost exact evenness. The volleyball players split like the red sea as he stood himself in front of the girl.
"Asano-san, would you like to attend a practice match of the team with another school?"
