The Beginning Of Everything
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Author's POV
It was another bright morning at the military camp as Jimin was watching the empty field that was yet to be filled with troops later from his office window. They were going to celebrate Armed Forces Day in a few more days, hence they needed to do some practice for the formation. He was holding a cup of hot coffee and took a sip, warming up his throat to start the day.
He hummed at the bitter taste before looking down at his watch and seeing it was 8:28. He took a deep breath and walked to his table as he put down the cup before having a seat. There are a few files he needed to survey and approve of before it was sent to the General to be spoken during a meeting later in the afternoon. He sighed at the view, taking one of them and opening it only to roll his eyes.
“What a bullshit,” Jimin mumbled as he read the report. They were requesting to change the regulations regarding military service from mandatory to optional as every South Korean male is required to complete military service once he turns 18 years old. To Jimin, it was probably the greatest decision ever made. The military service was the only thing that would teach them defense power. Defense power is interchangeable with combat capability. The primary purpose of defense power is to fend off the intrusion of foreign power, but it is more important to maintain a solid preparedness so that the enemy will not set off a war. Defense power consists of soldiers, firepower, and equipment.
Without well-trained soldiers, battles can not be won. As such, the military service requirement is to suggest a way of mobilizing enough people to carry out wars. Doing his military service is a promise to the people of the country and it should have the noble ideology that they commit themselves to their country exerting all mental and physical ability.
Thus, military service is the expression of loyalty to the nation itself.
A knock on the door caught Jimin’s attention as he closed the file and set aside his opinion on the report. “Come in.” He spoke and watched the door open as Jungkook entered in a full uniform along with a salute. He mentally smirked at the view, he had been waiting for the younger’s arrival. And now he was there, in front of his eyes. However, he maintained his strong demeanor and gazed boringly at the lieutenant.
“I see you're early today.” He pointed out, seeing the clock hit exactly 8:30. It was three days after their first encounter and he had been late in the past which, as per commanded, had immediately taken Jungkook’s privilege on Bookout and forced him to move into a dorm instead. Jimin wasn’t playing when he told the younger one to say bye to his girlfriend. It seems the older one was intended to piss Jungkook off and torture him just because he was late on the first day.
It wasn’t his fault though, he just wanted to stay in his girlfriend’s arms.
“You don't get to say anything.” Jungkook hissed, bitterness clearly could be heard in his voice. Jimin once again smirked mentally, throughout his 7 years career no one ever dared enough to talk back to the higher authority. Even back then when he was still a mundane soldier he never did until now with the ranking colonel, it remained the same. So it was amusing to him how this one feisty young man slipped into the military.
“Fret not, darling…” He taunted, seeing Jungkook’s neck almost break by the way he snapped to look at the older man who addressed him in such a loving way that it hurt to hear.
“I told you not to call me that.”
“And why is that?”
“It’s disrespectful and I don’t like it, I have a name.”
“Oh, really?” Jimin stood up and stared at the lieutenant who somehow looked afraid of the sudden change. Or perhaps maybe a little bit nervous but he didn't say anything further. The colonel didn't fudge, maintaining his cold gaze on the younger before slowly walking towards him and stopping just behind Jungkook. He then whispered lowly, “Are you sure you don't like it, Lieutenant Jeon?” making the younger shiver, feeling the hot breath against his nape. It showed how close Jimin was.
Jungkook didn't know what to say or what to do, he was struck. He doesn't want to concede it but he found himself liking the way Jimin named him more than intended. Yet that is also why he detested it, because he already has a girlfriend and that was totally unfair to her. Though the word ‘Darling’ wasn’t that much new, it made Jungkook tingle every time he heard it and to make it worse, the way it slipped from the older’s mouth oh so intrinsically and smooth made his abdomen stirred in unknown feelings.
“Answer me, Darling.” Jimin worded, putting authority in his voice, and smirked when he noticed the younger man didn't answer the question.
“Proceed with the report.” He commanded and backed away from Jungkook, seeing the lieutenant immediately relax his body from the tension that was building around them only to tense again when two pairs of arms caged him against the office table. The younger didn’t turn around, it was probably the most stupid decision that could have been made if he did. It’s better for him when the Colonel is behind and not in front based on how close they are.
Clearing out his throat, he decided to read all the reports for the morning. Luckily, Jimin also didn’t go further. The man stayed in the position only for Jungkook to feel his breath sometimes. It was daunting and haunting, if that makes sense.
Silence surrounded them the moment he finished talking. He waited a few minutes, waiting for Jimin to say anything or at least walk away, and ended their exchange here. Clearing out his throat, he breathlessly called upon the older. “C-colonel…?” But no reply in return made him frown. If it weren’t for their position, Jungkook would have thought Jimin went missing or even died. But the male was there, standing straight behind him.
Without thinking much further, he turned around only to regret doing so when he saw the Phoenix eyes were already staring coldly at him. He gulped and looked at Jimin’s name tag instead, unable to hold in the contact. His heartbeat raised drastically when Jimin put his fingers under his chin and pushed his face upward to look at the man.
He doesn't know why but something about the older man is bothering him. Ever since their not-so-sweet first encounter a few days ago, though Jungkook displayed indications of disliking him in public, it wasn’t that severe deep inside. He tried to hate the Colonel for the sake of his girlfriend's name but he caught himself thinking about Jimin instead and the ‘trying’ was just one of his stupid justifications for why the older man hung around in his mind so to speak.
Truth to say, he was in denial.
“What’s on your mind, Darling?”
His breath hitched upon hearing that question and looked over at Jimin again who was now a lot nearer compared to before. Not trusting himself to say anything, Jungkook shook his head. It was the first time they were behaving like this, no bickering or arguing. Just silence and bodies close to each other. It wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable per se, but it made Jungkook’s head dizzy and the unfamiliar feelings again drowned him.
“You were frowning earlier, such a beauty shouldn’t worry too much…” Jimin assured, and Jungkook for one minute forgot who he was and formed a soft smile at the compliment. The older one cared about him, he noted.
But the smile didn't last more than a second as Jungkook cleared up his throat and moved to the side; away from the Colonel. Maintaining a bridge between them. Jimin, however, had a different idea in his mind as he walked towards the younger one slowly like a predator hunting its prey. Nervous rushed in Jungkook’s veins as he took a step back with every step Jimin took forward.
Nevertheless, soon he found himself couldn’t move anymore and was trapped completely against the door. His eyes dilated when Jimin put his arms at both sides of his head and leaned over. He was taller than the older, but the dominant aura Jimin gave away made him feel so small and helpless. The tension in the room was pressuring him to the point his body shivered.
“W-what are you doing?” He stuttered, unable to hide away his reaction to the bold behavior. Now, he was leaning over the door with nowhere to go while Jimin pinned him down his gaze. Jungkook glanced at them, searching for the intention behind it. Lust, love, or whatever that was available. But instead, he found nothing but just merely a frigid stare.
“J-Jimin… N-no.” Jungkook begged and put his hand on the man’s chest when Jimin started to bend further. Too close, for Jungkook’s liking. Though, despite the word that rolled out from his tongue, his hand doesn’t even push the Colonel. It just lay there and did nothing. Seeing that Jimin wasn’t going to stop any soon, Jungkook closed his eyes.
Revealing what he was thinking.
Yet what he had expected did not come as he heard the door click and the shadow backed away. “Enjoying yourself, Darling?” Jungkook opened his eyes at that query, Jimin was teasing him. He immediately glared at the older man before cursing at him.
“You’re such an asshole.” He snapped, though he didn't know what he was mad at. Jimin chuckled at the reaction, making his abdomen stirred again by the raspy voice.
“You’re angry that I didn't kiss you, Darling? I thought you said no, earlier…” Jimin commented.
And Jungkook decided he had enough and turned around to open the door. Swiftly he walked outside of the room without notifying his leaving formally and caught himself thinking about what Jimin said. He doesn't know what makes him upset, either he was irritated by the teasing or disappointed at the fact he didn't receive the kiss. He badly wanted to believe the first one, but he knew it was wrong.
‘Stop, Jeon. What are you thinking?’ He warned himself, realizing he was caught up in his mind too much. His attention later was cut off when his phone rang, breaking off his thoughts as he smiled at the view before picking it up and greeting his lover.
“Hello, baby.”
“Hi, Darling, what are you doing right now?” Min-Ha asked and Jungkook couldn't help but frown at the nickname.
“Nothing. I just finished my meeting with Jimi- I mean, Colonel Park regarding the practice formation which will be done in a few hours. Why?”
Soft laughs came from the other line, making him smile. “Was he the one who messed with you days ago?” Jungkook hummed at the question and rolled his eyes further when Min-Ha giggled at him. She knows how much the younger one hates Jimin. He told her everything that had happened on their first encounter and the woman found it cute instead of taking it seriously.
Though, it wasn’t so cute anymore because of their exchange earlier.
But Jungkook, for whatever reason, kept it unspoken.
“Yah! I'm so hurt! Why would you laugh at that?!” Jungkook overreacted, listening to her happy voice longer through his ear. “Because of him, I need to sleep in the dorm and the bed is hard as rock! Not enough of that, it smelled bad! Worst of all, you are too far away from me now!” He continuously complained and found himself regretting the last statement. He doesn't even know why he needed to say it, but when he did— it felt off and fake.
Luckily, Min-Ha wasn’t in front of him. Or not for sure the woman would have noticed his strained facial expression.
“You’ll be okay, love… Anyway, my mom came over and wished to have you over for dinner next week. She said she would cook your favorite, so I’m calling you to ask if you can make it.”
“Of course, I will ask for a Bookout,” Jungkook assured, happy to hear the news. He had lost his mother ever since he was a child, hence, Min-Ha’s mom was everything to him.
“Excellent! I will see you next week then!”
“Sure thing, is there anything else?”
“No, that’s all. Thank you, love. I’ll get going now, don’t work too hard. I love you!”
“Noted, love you too.” And the line ended there.
Jungkook didn’t want to be that guy, but he felt a slumped throat. He closed his eyes and let out a sigh. His mind went back to what had happened earlier in the office as he looked back to the door. He doesn't know what he should feel out of it but one thing for sure, he felt blameworthy. Albeit they didn't even do anything.
He shook his head, deciding to put the matter aside as he took a deep breath and noted to ask for a book out day. The more he thinks about Jimin, the worse it will be for him and Min-Ha. It's best if he shrugs his opinion under the rug and he does exactly that.
A soft smile appeared across his face, remembering what his lover said earlier. He was looking forward to next week to see her mother. He surely will attend the dinner, it had been too long since they all did.
Unfortunately, he spoke too soon...
..༺♡༻..
Are you falling in love?
While I've been falling to pieces?
All these memories of us,
Wish that I had amnesia,
To forget that you left,
'Cause you're still in my head.
I always bottle it up,
Until the bottlе is empty,
I'm still drunk in your love,
Reading the notes that you left me,
All the good times I'd lose,
To erase you, oh, I'd do anything.
