"hey mike?" a soft voice asked.

mike opened his eyes to see nothing but darkness. but we he moved his arms he felt something warm.

"mike!" the voice yelled this time.

"ah what?" mike said as he got a little scared.

"school starts in 1 hour, are we going to be l-late?" el said using the new word she learned.

"no el, right now is actually the time we wake up to go and get ready for school, so let's go" mike said as he rolled out of bed and grabbed el with him.

hop had finally let el go to real school after tutoring her for awhile. and el finally persuaded him to let her sleep over at mikes before the first day. that took awhile as you can imagine.

"ok el what do you want for breakfast?" mike asked as he opened the fridge.

"eggos!" she said with a smile.

"of course" he said as he fake rolled his eyes.

mike put 3 eggos in the toaster knowing el likes eating two, and waited to them to pop out. then he put them on a plate and set them to the table where el was.

"you exited for today?" mike asked.

"ya, and a little nervous" el said as she bit into an eggo.

"don't be nervous, i'll be with you at all times. plus, it's a bunch of people's first day, i mean it's the first day of high school for the whole party" mike said as he ate his eggo too.

they finished eating their eggos and returned upstairs to get dressed.

el went into nancy's room to finish getting ready while mike pulled out the closest thing to the top of the drawer.

he got dressed and sat on his bed waiting for el to come back in, but she never did.

mike got worried and went to knock on nancy's door.

"hello? el? you alright?" mike asked.

"shes fine mike, just finishing her makeup!" nancy yelled.

"she doesn't need makeup nancy! she's beautiful just the way she is!" mike yelled back before going back to his room.

he waited for 20 minutes before el walked back in.

"woah" mike said as he stared at her.

she wore a pink dress that went to her lower thigh and had very little makeup on. her hair was in a messy bun.

"pretty?" el asked.

"no el, you look gorgeous" mike said as he leaned in and kissed her forehead.

el blushed and grabbed his hand.

"ok we got to get going if we don't want to be late" mike said as he grabbed both their backpacks.

"mike i can carry mine" el said as they walked out of the house.

"no it's fine, i got it" he said with a smile.

they continued to walk to school and met with the party once they got to school.

"hey guys!" dustin said to el and mike.

"hey" they both said in unison.

"hey so el, you ready for school?" lucas asked el.

but before el could reply, troy and his minions came up to them.

"well if it isn't frog face, toothless, blaze it, and chocolate!" (pls don't call me racist, i just think that's how troy would call lucas, i totally don't think it's alright i just thought troy would say that)

"what do you want troy?" max asked clearly annoyed.

"bold of you to assume i want to do anything to you blaze it, you probably can't even fight!" troy snickered.

once he was done looking at max he saw el.

"who's this loser?" he asked looking at el.

"don't call her that" mike said protectively.

troy turned back to his minions and nodded. before they knew it the minions were holding all the party back except for el.

"fresh meat huh!" troy said as he got closer to el.

el tried to back away but soon pushed over by a person walking by.

"oopsie, little baldy fell didn't she!" troy said as he towered over her.

el's hair was shoulder length but in the 80's, short hair wasn't common, so people would make fun of short hair people. (in this au)

troy picked up el by the hair and punched her right in the jaw.

"STOP IT YOU BASTARD!" mike yelled but troy didn't stop.

"you joined the losers over there too late to be saved baldy! this is what we do to friends of frog face!" troy yelled as he threw another punch to el's stomach.

el whimpered in pain as she fell to the floor.

"mike! help me..." el said but she didn't have enough strength to stand.

mike tried to break free to go over and save her but he just wasn't strong enough to get through troys minion.

"bold of you to assume i was finished!" troy yelled as he kicked her in the face causing her to pass out.

"EL!" mike yelled but was getting held back by troys minions.

"leave her alone you bastard!" max yelled.

"aw, little baldy was too weak! she passed out! pathetic!" troy said as he kicked her in the stomach and walked away.

the minions dropped the party and followed troy.

once mike got to his feet he ran over to el as soon as he could.

he pulled her onto his lap and began shaking her.

"el! el please wake up!" mike yelled as he shook her.

"i'm going to go get the nurse!" dustin said as he and will ran off to the school building.

"el please!" mike said as tears started to form in his eyes.

max and lucas stood over mike and el and patiently waiting for el to wake up.

after shaking el and yelling her name for 10 minutes, and will and dustin saying the nurse couldn't come, el started to wake up.

"el!" mike yelled as he pulled her into a hug.

"mike, i was so scared" el said as she cried into his shoulder.

"i know el, i know. i won't ever let him do that to you again i promise!" mike said.

mike hugged her tighter but felt her whimper in pain.

"ah el i'm sorry! we should head home, you need to get taken care of" mike said as he grabbed her hand.

"i'm in pain. i can't stand" el said as she couldn't get up.

"ok i'll carry you then" mike said as he leaned down and picked her up bridal style.

"what about the first day?" lucas asked.

"el's hurt, shes need attention for her injures right now, i'll be back i promise!" mike yelled.

"i'll come with you" max said.

"ok"

max and mike ran el down to the hospital just to make sure she didn't break a rib.

they checked her in and waited in the waiting room.

"el hopper?" the nurse called.

mike, el, and max went up to the nurse.

"sorry children. i only need el at the moment, we will call you in to check up on her in about 2 hours" the nurse said.

"mike" el said with tears in her eyes.

"you'll be alright el. i promise. they want to help you. i'll be right out here" mike said as he leaned in and kissed her softly.

they pulled back and el hugged max before walking with the nurse.

mike dropped some tears but max ignored it.

2 hours later!!

"friends or family of el hopper?!" the nurse called.

max and mike stood up and walked with the nurse to greet el.

they walked in the room and saw el laying on a bed looking miserable.

mike of course ran to her and held her hand and kissed her.

"hi mike! i missed you!" el said with a smile.

"i missed you too" mike said with a smile.

"don't make me feel awkward! i missed you too ellie!" max said.

"i missed you too don't worry maxxy!" el said with the cute nicknames they gave each other.

the doctor soon came in to give back test results.

"sorry el, you have a broken rib. you will be staying here for awhile. we have informed your school" the doctor said.

mike hugged el but not too tightly as he didn't want to hurt her.

time skip to night

max had to leave an hour ago due to family issues but mike stayed.

el and mike were holding hands laying in bed talking.

"mike?" el asked softly.

"yes?"

"stay with me during this all?" she asked and she tightened the grip on mikes hand.

"i promise i won't leave your side" mike said with a smile.

"i love you" el said before drifting off to sleep.

"i love you more" mike said before snuggling up to her but careful to not touch any wires.

and they fell asleep snuggling.
