jackrabbit heart

i have the body of a girl

and the heart of a jackrabbit

if you see me under the full moon

take a closer look and you will see

that my leg is forever twitching

prepping me to run for

there will always be coyotes

nipping at my heel

i have spent my adolescence running

and i dont think i will ever stop

even when i sleep i dream of running

and even when i am still my heart is not

i am a jackrabbit masquerading as a girl

and this fear will always surround me

of coyotes with their snapping teeth

and death just nipping at my heel
