Modern AU

Y/n sighed. Today was just not her day. First, she couldn't answer a single question right in chem, then everytime she made a joke in the class (which, for some reason, was more times than usual today, her bravery seemed to be running high) everyone made fun of her for not being funny. Despite the hurt it caused, she didn't seem to be able to stop herself from making more jokes. Her lungs felt like caving in and she wondered if she could go to the nurse's office for emotional exhaustion.

Then, as if the day wasn't crappy enough, she was laying her head down on her desk for the few moments before all the girls in the class grouped in a circle standing right next to her spot and discussed where to go out for the upcoming holiday. "Oh maybe we should consider inviting Y/n, the girl who's always nice to all of us who we are never nice to whose existence we like to ignore," said no one. Because no one mentioned y/n, because she was invisible to them.

At this point she just wanted to go home, school sucked. Somehow it managed to ruin the concept of learning and the concept of human interaction/friendships all in one. Every day was the same, and she was tired of trying to make friends with these people.

Right after lunch came the topper. The history teacher was late, only by 5 minutes so far so not many had noticed, too wrapped up in talking to each other before class started. Dustin (the self anointed nerd) pointed out from the back of the class, "he's never been late before," very audibly. Soon everyone's topic of discussion became where Mr.Sanders was. Y/n, being curious herself, asked an open question from where she was sitting, hoping someone would answer, "is he even present today?"

The class, for some reason, fell into a hush after that. She looked around, clueless, before Will spoke up, "yeah he is."
"Oh. Thanks."

"Oh come on Will" "what the heck man" and other cries of annoyance came from the boys in the class. Y/n was, once again, annoyed and confused but said nothing. Will,however said, "come on guys, I felt bad for her, ok?" Which, once again, silenced the class. Except Y/n. "You what," she said, cracking her knuckles. Lucas added helpfully from the corner, "ooh you're in trouble now Will."

'Do. Not. Pity. Me. Got that, Byers?" She glared at him.

That day, when Y/n got home, she felt worse than ever. She felt sad that the only person who actually acknowledged her did it out of obligation due to pity,and she wanted to make friends. He was just being nice, and she got aggressive with him when he did nothing wrong. She decided to apologize to Will.

She went on her phone, opened Instagram, and searched for Will's account. She messaged him-

Hey, I just wanted to say sorry for threatening you today in class. And every other time.

Oh hey Y/n. Why are you apologizing? It wasn't a big deal haha. I know it's just a joke.(oh my god oh my god she texted me)

Oh my god I can't believe I just did that. I made new friends too! Although having Mike dustin and lucas there might be annoying, I don't know if they'd like having me around...
