Breaking Time Just To Save Yuu

I posted this one on ao3 a few weeks back because my mental health was really shitty and I was considering suicide again. It really helped, so I decided to put it up here to share with you guys. I'm too lazy to indent though, so sorry if that triggers you. You can read the indented version on ao3

Content warning for strong language, past self harm/suicide and semi-explicit make out session. Canon divergence from episode two. Mix of angst, romance and humour.

"So in order to isolate for 'x', we have to divide by..."

Yuu ignored the lesson and stared out the window in irritation. Why the hell was he suspended from the army?! Just because he disobeyed orders? Screw that, he killed the Horseman that attacked his comrades!

"Why am I wasting my time here? I'm a soldier dammit-"

The teacher cleared his throat and interrupted Yuu's rant. "Hyakuya-san! What are you mumbling about over there?" he demanded. "If you have something you would like to add, then speak up."

Scoffing, Yuu rolled his eyes and broke eye contact.

A tic formed in the teacher's jaw. "You better shape up, young man! If you cause anymore trouble, I'll have you suspended!" he lectured.

Suspended? Wait, if Yuu was suspended, then...

"You'd really kick me out of here?" Yuu asked as he jumped out of his seat with a grin across his face. "Awesome! Then allow me to do something that will really piss you off-"

"Enough!" the teacher snapped. "I won't have you-"

Suddenly, he paused in the middle of his lecture and froze. The teacher just stood there pointing accusingly at Yuu, his mouth hanging open. He didn't even blink.

Yuu frowned. "You won't have me doing what?" he asked out loud.

Silence.

Okay, this was getting weird. Yuu turned to the girl who sat next to him and tapped her shoulder. "Hey, does he always freeze up like this?"

No answer. The girl didn't react to his touch. She just at the blackboard, eyes half-lidded from boredom.

Gulping, Yuu observed his surroundings. Just like the girl who he attempted to speak to, his classmates had gone silent and were staring into space. One kid had dropped his pencil, but rather than being on the ground, it was suspended in mid-air. Standing up, Yuu walked over to it and gave it a gentle tap. He expected the pencil to fall to the ground, but it had only tilted slightly.

"What the fu-"

Before he could finish his sentence, the wall behind him burst open. Yelping, Yuu jumped out of the way just in time to avoid getting grazed by the broken glass that whirred past him.

Like the pencil, the debris floated in the atmosphere as a figure emerged from the gaping hole in the wall. The attire they wore was one Yuu knew well and detested with all his heart.

An extravagant, hooded white cloak with a golden clasp. Underneath, they wore a matching white jacket and skin tight pants, along with a pair of knee-high boats embroidered with gold accents.

A vampire.

Panicking, Yuu retreated to the classroom's door and tried to pull it open. It didn't budge.

"Goddammit, don't fail me now!" he cursed, kicking at the door in an attempt to loosen it. However, all that did was send a shock up his leg, making him cry out.

"Yuu-chan, stop! You're going to hurt yourself!"

Yuu-chan?

Forgetting the situation he was in, Yuu slowly turned back to the vampire, eyes ablaze with fury. "What did you just call me...?"

"Pardon?"

Yuu slammed his hand on the desk next to him. "Don't you fucking call me that ever again! The only person who had that right was-

The vampire reached up and pushed back his hood, cutting off Yuu's tantrum. The sight in front of him left the raven-haired boy breathless.

The vampire had white-blond, shoulder length hair that covered his pointed ears. But what really took Yuu's breath away was his eyes. Ocean blue orbs, a colour extremely unusual for a bloodsucker, with dark slits for pupils. And instead of the boredom or irritation he saw on the faces of most vampires, the person in front of him had one of concern.

He looked just like-

The vampire slowly took another step forward. In contrast, Yuu took another step back, hitting the back of his head against the bulletin board. Great, now his body ached in three different places.

It's not him. Mika died in front of my eyes four years ago.

Yuu tried to convince himself with the facts, but seeing the person in front of him made the guilty, desperate part of himself want to run forward and embrace him, never letting go.

The vampire blinked, before looking away at the ground in hurt.

"Do you really hate me that much?" he asked.

The pain in his voice killed Yuu. He even sounded like his childhood best friend... Yuu desperately wanted to apologize, but he knew the moment he let his guard down, the bloodsucker would attack him and drain him alive.

"You digest me," Yuu finally managed to spit out. "Impersonating my best friend just to take advantage of me..." A lump formed in his throat, but he swallowed it, pushing his feelings aside. "Do you really want my blood so bad to the point you would use magic to pretend to be Mika?"

"Yuu-chan-"

"Stop calling me that!" he snapped. "Do you have any idea how badly his death broke me? Do you know how many times I cried myself to sleep? How many times I tried to kill myself?!"

The vampire looked back up in shock. "You did what?" he gaped.

Yuu rolled his uniform sleeve up to reveal the angry mix of red, black, blue and white scars decorating his arm. "I used cut myself and jump from high places! Sometimes I still do! I don't even have a fucking reason to live!" The tears were flowing freely now. "If you really want to kill me, drop the act! Just don't torture me like this!"

The vampire suddenly grabbed Yuu's arm in a gentle, yet firm grip. He examined the healed, semi-healed and fresh marks, his gloved hands tracing the wounds, sending shivers up Yuu's arm.

"I'm sorry," he finally said, his voice cracking. "If I hadn't been so stupid, then-"

A cheery ringtone suddenly blared through the room. Wasn't that the song everyone in his family used to sing until they lost their voices? Cursing, the vampire reached into his cloak's pocket and pulled out a cell phone with a green case. The screen flashed with an icon of a girl with her pink haired tied up into two ponytails. The name above it read "Mama Krul". The vampire stared at the screen for a few seconds before the call went into voicemail.

"MIKAELA HYAKUYA, YOU ARE SO DEAD! YOU HEAR ME?! FUCKING DEAD! WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOUR GAY ASS, I WILL GIVE YOU A BEATING YOU WILL NEVER FORGET! HOW DARE YOU RUN AFTER YOUR HUMAN BOYFRIEND AFTER I SPECIFICALLY TOLD YOU NOT TO! YUICHIRO HYAKUYA WAS NOT GOING ANYWHERE! I TOLD YOU YOU'RE ALLOWED TO MAKE OUT WITH THAT BITCH AFTER-"

The vampire threw the phone as hard as he could across the room, smashing it to pieces as it collided with the chalkboard, silencing the high pitched voice. He turned back to Yuu, his face flushed in embarrassment.

"I should have done that the moment I left Sanguinem," he muttered.

"It really is you..." Yuu whispered. In an instant, he had thrown his arms around Mika, burying his face in the warm cloth of his cloak. "I'm sorry! I should've believed you!"

Mika hugged back as tears began to form at the corner of his eyes. "Don't apologize. It's my fault, I was the idiot who decided to run away from Sanuinem," he said in a choked voice. "Of course you would think it was an illusion or dream."

They stood there like that for a moment, completely forgetting their surroundings. Finally, Yuu pulled away, wiping his tears away.

"Wait, how did you survive?" he asked. "Didn't that noble slice your arm off?"

Mika grimaced before answering. "He did. I thought I was going to die too, until Krul, the woman who almost burned our ears off just now, saved my life by turning me."

"Oh wow," Yuu marveled. "So, you came here to kidnap me?"

"Rescue, but know that I think about it, I'm basically kidnapping you," the blond laughed.

Yuu giggled along with him before his smile faded. He stared at his childhood friend, taking in his teenage appearance. Puberty had toned him perfectly. In fact, calling Mika hot was an understatement.

Yuu found himself tucking one of Mika's curl behind his ear. The other boy tensed up at the contact before cupping Yuu's face with his hand. They stared into each other's eyes, blue mixing with green, their noses almost touching.

Yuu wasn't sure who moved first, but then they were kissing, letting go of the emotions they had held back for so long. Mika moaned against him, sending cool air against Yuu's mouth. Their tongues brushed against each other while their hands moved against each other's waist.

Yuu loved Mika with all his heart and Mika loved Yuu more than anything.

Finally, they pulled away, panting for breath.

"I've wanted to do that for a really long time," Yuu mumbled.

"Me too," Mika sighed. Then he looked back at the debris and frowned. "Listen Yuu-chan, we need to get out of here. The spell will wear off in another three minutes."

"What spell?"

"The one I cast in order to do... this." Mika gestured to their surroundings, with the debris, students and teacher frozen in time.

Yuu's jaw dropped. "You did all this?' he gasped.

Mika nodded. "When I found out where the humans were hiding you, I started to form a plan to save you. Since I would get captured the moment I stepped foot in this school, I needed a way to get in and out without being caught," he explained. "That's when I stumbled upon Krul's spell book. It was full of complicated blood magic, including one spell that can stop time. I've been practicing it for nearly a month now. In order to..."

Yuu wasn't really listening, since he was focused on Mika's thigh high boots. Imagine being stepped on by them...

"Yuu-chan? Did you hear me?" Mika asked, pulling Yuu out of his horny thoughts.

"I'm here!" he blurted out. "I totally wasn't thinking about getting laid by your boots!"

Mika blushed madly at his comment before looking away. "I-it's fine." he stuttered. "So, shall we get going?"

Yuu quickly nodded. "Yeah, let's go- whoa!"

Yuu found himself being lifted up in a bridal-style by the blond before he jumped out of the crack in the wall, landing on the ground with ease. As he was carried across the school grounds, Yuu heard the screams of his math teacher, envisioning his face when he saw the huge-ass crack in the wall.

But that wasn't important right now. Because he was finally reunited with the one who he loved the most.
