Joe's POV:
I sighed as I sat in the bellows of Cleo's ship. She was bolting back and form with a multitude of ingredients for various potions, poisons, and other liquids. She bounced around like I would after drinking some coffee as her hair whipped around.
" Joe, my best friend, I have decided on something incredibly risky." Cleo stopped as she looked back at me. I leaned back in my rickety old chair that I sat in, " What may be this idea, Cleo?" I questioned as I fixed my glasses. Cleo put her supplies down and leaned against the table.
" Well, do to Grian's game coming about, I decided to maybe... join the game..." Cleo gave me a frown. I stood up, " Well, that seems like a mighty fine idea." I smiled slightly. Cleo crossed her arms, " It is, yes, but I'm Zombiecleo, Joe. I know I could simply just change my skin, but...." she trailed off as she adjusted her torn apparel.
I put my hand on her shoulder, " You want a more permanent touch, correct? Something to surprise the audience while making sure it's not just a cosmetic change?" I theorized as she nodded.
My zombie friend went back to working on her experiment, " That's exactly what I want Joe! I'm just afraid of what will happen when I do. I know I'm human in Other World, but we saw what happened to the hybrids... They've been changed to being hybrids there too... Doc and Python just barely managed to just having tails and some scales. I don't want to be a walking corpse there." she shook fiercely as she put her supplies down again.
" We, er, X got Doc and Python to only having their tails and scales in Other World though, Cleo." I looked at her in her glowing eyes. Cleo looked visibly distressed as I tried to smile, " if something goes wrong, and it wouldn't, I bet that we can fix you too..." I told her.
Cleo picked up a golden apple, " I trust your opinion, Joe. That's why I invited you here." she sighed with a shake of her head. Cleo next picked up a splash bottle of weakness, " This is just a test for this... " she told me as I nodded.
Crack.
I looked around. It sounded like something was trying to break. I looked up at Cleo to see the fear in her usually cold eyes.
Crack!
There is was again. It wasn't a rhythm yet, but it was getting close.
Crack!
It's worse. It's gotten worse. Whatever was trying to break was freaking Cleo out, and I, honestly have no clue about what it could possibly b-
POP!
My answer was harshly received by the sound of the glass bottle popping due to the heat expansion. I yelped in pain as shards dug into my body as if it was a knife into paper. My body felt as if it was inflamed as I looked towards Cleo.
Cleo coughed as a golden apple, with a bite taken out of it, dropped to the ground and rolled away. I stood up as my legs wobbled under me like a ragdoll. I collapsed back down onto my chair. Cleo looked over at me as her eyes became more alive.
" J-Joe? " Cleo looked at me with an alarmed look. Cleo helped me up, " Joe, Joe something messed up!" she fearfully looked at me. I looked at my cut arm, " It'll be fine..." I smiled at her. I stood up again as my legs buckled once more.
The two of us left the room, " Maybe we just need some air..." Cleo spoke tiredly. The two of us trudged up the stairs to the upper deck. Cleo's crew of undead pirates were working on the ship and occasionally looking around.
Cleo shuddered slightly as she reached for her heart area. My friend looked back at me as she clutched her heart area tighter. I frowned, " C-Cleo...?" my whole body started to ache as I looked down at my arms. The skin on my right arm started to rot away like a piece of driftwood until I could see bone.
" C..." my heart started to slow as I swayed slightly. Cleo tried to walk to me, but she started to sway too like the ship we were on. I tried to stretch my arm out as my arm started to fall off. Cleo's eyes tried to widen as she moved closer to the end of the ship.
" C-!"
I collapsed to the ground as it felt like my whole body stopped in time. Everything felt like it was withering away as I watched Cleo black out and plummet into the sea. Her crew split between jumping off to her and hoisting me up.
I groaned as my eyes closed from the exhilarating pain that corrupted me from the inside out.
Was this what dying felt like?
((A shrunken down Mighty is trapped in a jar. The small note reading " A hour later " is taped to the inside of the jar))
My body felt like nothing as I turned my head. My eyes burned as I curled in on myself. A sharp gasp resorted me into an even deeper pain.
" J-Joe! O-Oh my god what happened to you! What happened to me? I didn't expect this to happen!" Cleo gasped as a warm hand gripped my freezing cold shoulder. I felt something splash over me as I groaned and uncurled myself.
I stared up at the flushed human version of Cleo. Flourished, green vines with blue, red, and yellow vines coursed around her. Cleo even had a green, vine-like tail. My eyes widened as I stared at her, " Y....you're human..." I coughed as my clutched my dry through.
Cleo nodded. I looked down towards my chest, arms, and leg. Tight, black stitches lined my body parts and grey and green toned skin. I stared at myself then up at Cleo. She rubbed her arm, " Sorry Joe, I tried to stitch you up the best that I could after I woke up..."
Forcing my arm up, I looked at the boney appendage that was just some muscle, bones, and string that held it together. I moved my digits and groaned in pain again. I breathed heavily, " Why does..." my body ached as my bones creaked. Why did I become so dead and rotten this quickly? It takes years for people to rot normally.
I sat up and looked at my pale skin. Cleo frowned at me, " It won't take long for me to make another potion to turn you back... I think that since I've turned human... I may just use a cosmetic change for the episode...." she laughed awkwardly as I nodded.
I stood up as my legs shook again, " What did you splash on me?" I questioned in a whisper-y voice. Cleo looked at me, " A potion that will let you stand out in the sun. The unfortunate part is that you'll still be sensitive to said light." she shrugged as I fixed my glasses.
I watched in silence as Cleo started to work on the reversal potion, " Please due be careful with it..." I frowned as I looked at her. Cleo nodded at me, " I will, Joe, Maybe you can go up to the deck?" she frowned as she looked back at me.
As much as I wanted to be at her side and aide her, I decided to go to the upper deck and look out in the world. The sun was hot, but it wasn't unbearable. My hands gripped the rails that were recently installed by the crew members.
My body continued to ache and creak as I looked up towards the blissful blue sky. Scar was zipping around and looked down at me. He swerved down and landed.
" Joe! How's it goin' man?" Scar questioned as I turned to look at him. Scar let out a yelp as he leapt back like a frightened animal, " Please do not be alarmed, Scar. A potion exploded and did this to me and Cleo." I frowned as Scar nodded awkwardly.
Speaking of the potion, Cleo came up onto the deck. Scar's eyes widened as he took his hat off, " This is amazin'! I-I mean not for you, Joe... You look pretty nauseous right now... You, uh, get my point..." he rubbed the back of his head.
The two of us nodded as Cleo handed me the golden apple as she held the potion. I looked over at Scar, " You may want to stay back." I laughed tiredly as Scar nodded and climbed up to the upper deck of the ship.
Cleo splashed the potion causing everything to hurt every again. The irritating and sizzling sensation went through me as I growled. This weird, feral feeling coursed through me as I resisted the urge to attack my friend.
I looked down at the apple and bit into it. The magic of the apple coursed through me as I started to sway again. My legs hurt as skin, bone, and muscle started to reform together. I moved back until I fell over.
" Scar, come help me!" Cleo called out causing my whole body to shake. I growled and started to slink away as my vision started to blur away. I shook when Cleo and Scar picked me up. The pain dug into me like a sword as I was brought downstairs and put onto a bed.
I felt my body weaken more as I closed my eyes, " How long will it ---- take for ---- turn back?" Scar's sentences were already losing their meaning and words as I curled up under the blanket that was gently placed on top of me.
" In his case? I'd say an hour...." Cleo replied as I shook. I don't remember anything after that. My body refused to keep me awake as I drifted off while the potion worked its magic.
