Twenty one
Nathen
"I told you not to drag her." Nathen said.
"She keeps moving. Can't I just kill her?" Miku asked. Carly was trying to break out of the ropes they tied her hands with. She tried to kick off the ropes that tied her feet. But the mere thought of being killed left her frozen.
"I'm sure she'll keep still now. Plus, we need her alive right now." Nathen told her. Carly was lifted up again and thrown over Miku's shoulder. For a little looking girl, this Miku was strong.
The blind fold she put on Carly fell off so she was able to see where they were taking her. They went back down the closed off hallway and back to the classroom where she first saw Miku standing in. She and the other two stopped at the board.
"What are you doing?" Carly asked. Nathen walked to the whiteboard and pressed a series of locations on the board. The spots he touched lit up green. She remembered seeing Miku hitting the board earlier. Was this what she was trying to do?
They all stood until the entire wall began to shake. The room growled as the wall continued moving to show a secrete passageway. It was dark and gloomy, but unexpectedly clean. Wherever they were going, they went to it a lot. All she could really see was the grey tiles on the floor until it turned into stainless steel. She peaked over her shoulder to see they reached another door. Tom opened it and they all went in.
The room was dark until Nathen flipped a switch. They went down a staircase to what looked like some underground research room. There were experiment tables in the middle, a huge computer on the wall, a long table towards the back with test tubes and jars, and a wall full of weapons she wouldn't expect a lab to have.
"What is this place?" Carly asked.
"Now that we've made it back, Miku, take that bracelet off her wrist. That needs to be disposed of properly." Nathen spoke to Miku without even paying attention to Carly's question.
"Okie dokie." Miku reached for her arm and pulled off the bracelet.
"What are you going to do with my bracelet?"
"That thing has been the reason I couldn't get near you, so I have to take proper action to make sure it doesn't get between us anymore." Nathen said. Carly remembered the talk KP and she had. It really was the reason he was acting strange. And he really did intend to kidnap her.
"So what, you're going to take my spirit or something to help you leave Midtown?" Carly asked. Both Nathen and Tom looked to each.
"So he did end up telling you. Well, knowing or not knowing isn't going to help you now since he's not here to save you. This'll make things a lot easier. Tom, set table B up." Nathen said. Tom went to the computer desk and held down a button. A table that was raised up high began lowering.
"Strap her in." Miku threw Carly on top of the table and took her hands and feet apart to handcuff them to the table. She tried to fight, but after being dragged around the school, she was weak and couldn't beat her strength.
"We just need to run a few test first." Nathen went to his computer and turned it on. Suddenly, the cold metal table grew warmer and warmer.
"Are you trying to cook me?" Carly asked. The table was growing even hotter than Lodia's hand.
"We're just getting a full body scan. Getting the body to a high temperature gives us a better reading with everything nice and active. Are there better ways of doing this? Yes, but we're limited on our resources, so I'm afraid you'll have to deal with this." He replied. It was bad enough Carly was captured like KP said, but now she's on what feels like a skillet being cooked alive. She was sweating and almost felt like her skin was burning. Her only hope was this being all a dream that she wishes so badly to wake up from.
After what seemed like forever, the table began to cool down. Nathan got up from his seat at the desk and walked over to Carly holding a long black wand.
"Just need to get the front side now." He pressed a button on the side of the wand which connected to the computer. The bottom side show a soft red light turning on. He held the wand closely over her foot and moved it up her body slowly. The feeling over the area the wand was at burned worse than the table. She couldn't stand it and yelled out in pain.
"Sorry, this really should be done clothes free, but I'll save you the embarrassment for now and crank up the output. It'll take a little longer to make sure we get accurate readings." Nathen told her. His words were just washing through her mind as she was more focused on trying to escape this situation. Her mind was going blank. She couldn't think of anything but wanting to stop the fiery feeling rolling slowly over her skin. Her head started pounding and she began feeling weird.
Carly could feel the heat creeping up to her mid-section and over her stomach. Her shirt was thinner than her pants, so the feeling was worse. Her mind was racing. The image of the wand showed in her head glowing over her and started to repeat 'stop it' to herself over and over as that was the one thing she wanted more than anything in that moment. The burning was moving closer and closer to her face. If that hits her directly, it may burn off her skin. The feeling was intense and so was the thoughts she were having until she just blurted it out.
"Stop!" Carly shouted. The word she repeated over and over came out. She looked over and saw Nather looking at the wand. The light was gone and so was the burning.
"Wh-what did you do?" He asked pressing the button on it multiple times. She couldn't answer. She just closed her eyes and felt a migraine coming.
"I wish I saw where you guys went. The long way sucks." Carly parted her eyes with blurry vision seeing KP and Lodia at the top of the stairs.
"So you finally joined us." Nathen said.
"What have you done to her?" KP looked down to them.
"I'm sure you'd like to know."
"You didn't have her long enough to do anything so I know you haven't gotten what you wanted yet. What is this some sort of torture chamber?" KP asked. Carly was strapped to a table exhausted and in pain. From his point of view, it must look like a torture chamber.
Carly kept her eyes shut as the pounding in her head grew. She struggled to move her arms to bring her hands to her head, but they wouldn't move. An explosion felt like it was going off in her head as her thoughts again suddenly cleared. The image she has of the table came to mind. She could see her cuffed hands. The cuffs were coming off. That's all she wanted. To be free and to hold her aching head. The thought played over and over.
"What are you doing?" Nathen asked. Carly shut her eyes tighter still not paying him attention as she felt something coming over her. She sprang her eyes open. That's when she noticed the cuffs holding her hands and feet do the same.
"H-how did you do that?!" Nathen was in shocked. Carly was shocked. Somehow she was freed. Her mind was clouded as she was finally able to bring her hands to her face as the migraine got worse. She could almost pass out, but she knew that wasn't the time to lose consciousness.
There was a noise. Someone was moving. She looked and saw it was Lodia. She came fast and to the table. She helped Carly up and took her to the top of the stairs.
"Miku, stop her." Nathen shouted. Miku did as he said and ran after them.
"Not a chance." Lodia yelled back. She did a kick back making Miku fall to the floor. She handed Carly off to KP. He quickly reached into his pocket and put something in hers. She was too dazed to see what it was.
"Carly, you okay?" KP asked.
"My head is killing me. It feels like it's going to explode." She whispered.
"We have to get you out of her."
"You can't leave yet!" Miku yelled as she ran up the stairs. Lodia jumped in front, making Miku crash into her. Both of them fell over the railing onto the floor below them.
"It's about time we picked up from last time." Lodia said as she was on top of Miku.
"She's not set to attack. Press the button. Set it to nine." Nathen yelled. Tom scrabbled for the remote and pressed it to nine.
"Miku, get rid of the android and get the girl." Nathen demanded. Her pupils rolled up and the whites of her eyes showed. She immediately threw Lodia over, making her hit the wall and slid to the floor. Lodia wasn't down long before she got up and reached for the table and pushed it off the connectors into Miku. The force sent it flying into her, but Miku caught hold of it before it smashed her to the wall. The table fell over causing the wall of weapons to fall.
"Quickly, come with me." KP said. He lead Carl out the room and down a hallway they didn't use to get here.
"It's a divergent!" She heard Nathen yell. They kept moving further down the hallway.
"Where are you taking me?" She managed to ask.
"The town's border. He can't get you there. It'll give us time to come up with the next plan." KP said. "Do you have the strength to climb?" he asked as they made it to a ladder. She was able to look around. The room wasn't as bright, but it was small and seemed to only have one way out.
"I don't think I have any other options."
"You start. I'll help incase you lose balance." He said.
"What about Lodia? She's still back there."
"She'll catch up soon. She's buying us some time. But he seemed to have caught on quickly, so we don't have much of it."
Carly's head was ponding, her wrists were red from being bounded, and her body feels like it's been deep fried. If she went back, she was going to have to live through that again. So she took a deep breath and headed up the ladder. She wasn't sure if she was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel or the light out of there, but either option was better than being captured.
