Well, when I first saw Midsommar, I never imagined I would wind up loving the film so much. I've talked about how it's one of my favorite movies that was a sophomore effort by a director in my nonfiction book. I would also put it on the list of films I regret not watching in theaters alongside Get Out and The Shape Of Water. So, it wasn't until I saw The Kill Count to Midsommar that I realized how bad Dani and Christian's relationship was, and how Christian was practically a gaslighting piece of crap. He constantly coaxes Dani into doing things with him when she doesn't want to such as take shrooms when she's not in a good headspace and makes her feel like it's her fault for not wanting to do said things, he never showed her empathy and compassion when her family died and she was grieving, he never told her important shit when it mattered, he didn't even remember her birthday, and he cheated on her! Okay yeah, he was drugged and raped, but still. Christian was definitely a bad boyfriend and Dani deserved better than him. James (from Dead Meat) also pointed out that even if Christian, Mark, and Josh didn't make their foolish decisions, they were still going to die at the hands of that cult. It did make me think, even if Dani didn't come with Christian and his friends, Christian, Mark, and Josh would have still died. So the idea of Dani doing other things unaware of the doom her boyfriend would suffer seemed interesting. As for the male love interest that Dani falls for, I named him after David Naughton and Lon Chaney Jr., both gentlemen known for playing werewolves which should be a very subtle foreshadowing. Special thanks to my sister for the suggestion of the title to my fan fiction. It's a lot better sounding than what I originally had in mind which would have been, "What If Dani Didn't Go To The Midsommar Festival With Christian And His Friends?" Midsommar Gibbous does have a better ring to it. And to Ari Aster, Florence Pugh, and the rest of the actors and crew that made Midsommar such a really great movie, thank you.
