David's Secret

It was the morning after Dani's birthday, and Dani and David were sleeping in her bed. Dani was wearing David's Star Wars t-shirt and her underwear, while David was just in his underwear. She was cuddled up to David, happy. Dani looked at David and softly said, "morning D.C." David smiled and said, "morning to you too Dani. How'd you sleep?"

"Decently," yawned Dani. She adjusted her hair and awkwardly said, "so... technically I'm cheating on my boyfriend..." The elephant in the room had to be addressed. "Hey, Christian was being emotionally distant with you," defended David, "he wasn't reciprocating your feelings, and he was making you feel guilty for not wanting to do things with him. You're not at fault Dani." Dani looked at David and said, "yeah... You're right, David! I deserve better than Christian! Thankfully, I have you." She smiled sweetly at him. David held Dani's hand and said, "Dani, I want you to know I would never ever hurt you, physically, emotionally, or verbally... That's the last thing I want to do to you." Dani tenderly touched David's face and softly said, "I believe you."

Much later, Dani and David were hanging out at the park, walking around. "Dani, there's something I want to tell you," said David, "if we're going to be together, I want to be honest with you, and I feel this is important to me." He sounded nervous and insecure, and Dani could tell by the scared tone in his voice. "You can tell me anything David," assured Dani, "I trust you." She gently rubbed his back. David breathed in, looked Dani in the eyes and said, "alright then. Dani, I'm a werewolf!" Dani was unsure how to react. David was a werewolf? She softly laughed, "a werewolf? You're kidding, right?" Dani was unsure whether David was suffering from the mental disorder known as lycanthropy, a rare disorder in mental illness. But David shook his head no with a serious look on his face. Dani's smile dropped and she said, "you're not kidding? You're actually a werewolf? Werewolves are real?"

"Yeah, werewolves do exist both supernaturally and scientifically," replied David. "Scientifically? People can become werewolves through science?" Dani asked, "I always thought scientific experiments gone wrong would mostly be the cause of a zombie apocalypse..." David thought it over and replied, "you're not too far off... But yeah, some people have become werewolves or other were-creatures due to some scientific experiment gone wrong. I guess everything I'm saying sounds like something out of a bad comic book."

"Wait, but you also used the adjective supernatural. That must mean other supernatural beings such as vampires and ghosts must exist too, can they?" Dani asked. "I can neither confirm nor deny that," said David, "I mean, my mom has seen some ghosts. And there is definitely a Heaven and Hell after life. I know this is a lot to take in, but I'm telling the truth." Heaven and Hell. Dani had a bad feeling that her sister Terri was now in Hell after murdering their parents and herself. Already today was strange. After willing to accept all this, Dani asked, "how did you become a werewolf?" She and David found a bench to sit in and David explained, "I was born with it. It all started when my father became a werewolf. You see, my father was born with a rare condition that gave him severe migraines. On a bad day, the migraines would have been so severe that my dad wouldn't be able to walk and he would feel like he was dying. The condition was actually so bad that the doctors stated that Dad wouldn't live to see his 15th birthday. One particular scientist approached my dad and offered him a serum that could potentially cure my dad of his condition and end the migraines. Well my dad really didn't want to die young so he took the serum despite the fact that it contained wolf DNA. And the serum did work. After that, the migraines stopped and my dad was more healthy than he ever was in his life. But due to the serum containing wolf DNA, it immediately mutated my dad into a werewolf. And so every full moon, Dad would turn into an eight foot werewolf. He's learned to live with it and so have I and it definitely explains why we're such good friends with Mr. Brooker the butcher."

"You are his best customers," chuckled Dani before she asked, "are your siblings werewolves too?" David shook his head and said, "nope. Just me. The scientist that made the serum said that the likelihood of my father's offspring having werewolfism was a 1/5th chance. Guess you could say I was that 1/5th." He and Dani shared a soft chuckle together. "Did your Mom become a werewolf?" Dani asked. "No," confirmed David, "she wasn't interested in turning. And she didn't turn despite she and Dad conceiving me and my siblings. She was aware of the one in five chance of one of us turning. I first turned into a werewolf when I was thirteen years old. Dad's helped me come to terms with our condition, and I guess you could say I'm somewhat alright with being a werewolf. It's finding someone I love that's been difficult, because what if they don't believe I'm a werewolf or if they do they think I'm a monster? You're the first girl I've ever fallen in love with Dani..." Dani adjusted her hair and asked, "have you or your father ever killed anyone as werewolves?" David shook his head and said, "never. The closest was when Dad and I were hunting for deers or rabbits to eat. Despite the fact that we're carnivores, we try to maintain a healthy diet without hurting people." Dani laid her head on David and said, "good to know. I don't think you're a monster, D.C." David smiled a little and said, "thank you Dani, that actually means a lot." David was relieved to know that Dani still loved him even though he was a werewolf. "David, out of curiosity, when's the next full moon?" Dani asked. "In two days," replied David, "whenever the full moon comes out, I go to this cabin that my dad built and stay in there while I'm a werewolf from dusk until dawn. And I usually take whatever meat I bought with me to the cabin and eat there as a werewolf." Dani held David's hand and asked, "can I come with you and keep you company during the full moon?" David looked at Dani, and he said in a calm but chipper tune, "sure. I'd like that a lot, Dani."
