Back To The Airport

Eventually, the month and a half came to pass, and Dani knew she had to go and pick Christian and his friends up from the airport. She was obligated to since their vacation was over. Dani was on the phone with David, getting dressed. "So today's the day you pick up your boyfriend and his friends, huh?" David asked on the phone. "Soon to be ex boyfriend, but yeah," replied Dani as she wondered what shoes to wear. "You want me to come with ya?" David asked on the phone, "ya know, for emotional support?"

"Nice as that is, maybe not," said Dani as she decided to wear some black flats with no socks. She was wearing a red t-shirt and blue shorts. "Yeah, that would be awkward the more I think about it," said David. "Right?" Dani chuckled and then said in a mocking voice, "hey Christian, this is my new friend David, I've been sleeping with him behind your back and I let him see me naked. Also, I don't love you anymore and I'm dumping you for someone who is way hotter, is emotionally supportive, and gives me amazing foot rubs. Of course I doubt he'd be able to kick your ass." David laughed with her. "Yeah, not exactly a good way to start a conversation with someone who just got back from their vacation." David chuckled on the phone. "But yeah, once I've gotten Christian back to his dorm I'm going to tell him that he and I are done and once we've broken up, that's that." Dani said confidently. "Alright then," said David, "well if you need me, I'll be at Buffalo Wild Wings because I'm jonesing for some hot wings." Dani smiled and said, "mind if I meet you there afterwards? I think I might need a drink." David replied on the phone, "I don't mind at all. And I don't blame you for needing a drink afterwards. It's totally understandable. I'll see you then Dani. I love you." Dani sighed happily, "I love you too David. Bye." Dani then hung up and put her phone back in her pocket. She then put her wallet and her keys in her pocket. Christian and his friends were supposed to be back at the airport by 12:45 p.m. She got in her car and drove all the way to the airport. Once she parked in the parking lot, Dani then went inside the airport. It was by now 12:40 p.m. and Dani waited for Christian, Mark, Josh, and Pelle. Five minutes later, Dani saw just Pelle with his bags, puzzling her.

"Hey Pelle," said a confused Dani, "is Christian behind you?" Christian, Josh, and Mark were nowhere to be seen. "I'm sorry Dani," began Pelle, "but Christian, Mark, and Josh are all dead..." He sighed sadly. "What?" Dani gasped in shock, "oh my god... How... How did they die?" Christian died during the Midsommar festival! Dani couldn't believe it!  "Mark was the first to die," explained Pelle, "he made the mistake of provoking a bear and that bear literally skinned him alive." Dani gave a look of disgust and horror. Maybe it was the idea of a bear skinning a human alive. Honestly gruesome. "As for Josh, he got really high on the weed given to him," explained Pelle, "he got so high, he wanted to skinny dip. He was on a cliff when it happened. Christian and I tried to stop him, but he landed head first off the cliff. If Josh had survived, he'd probably never walk again..." Dani couldn't help but cringe at how Josh died so stupidly and violently. Hard to be sad due to his indifference towards her. "As for Christian," continued Pelle, "he was trying to light a joint, and he accidentally lit himself on fire due to the match blowing the wrong way. He tried to get rid of the fire, but he accidentally landed on some hay, increasing the fire. He was dead in less than five minutes. I tried to put him out, but by the time I got there he was already a disfigured mess beyond saving." Dani was at a loss for words. She was unsure how to react. Before she saw Pelle, Dani had been imagining every scenario on how Christian would react to being dumped and finding out about her affair with a werewolf. And now the sucker was dead! But Dani decided to be mature and said, "I'm so sorry to know you lost your friends Pelle... yeah they had their flaws and they could be moronic in their own way... But I know they didn't deserve to die like that. Are you going to be alright?"

"I suppose I will," said Pelle, "it will be hard telling their families that they're gone." Dani nodded and agreed, "it will. Would you like it if I took you back to your dorm?" Pelle nodded and replied, "that would be nice." Dani and Pelle then got into Dani's car, and she drove Pelle back to his dorm. Soon they made it back. "Take care of yourself Dani," said Pelle. "You too Pelle. If you ever need to talk to someone, I'm here," promised Dani, and Pelle gave her that kind and respectful nod. As Dani drove away, little did she know was that most of what Pelle said wasn't exactly true. Oh yes Mark, Josh, and Christian died, but not in the ways Pelle described...

Dani then drove all the way to Buffalo Wild Wings, and when she got inside thankfully she was able to find where David was sitting. She sat next to him and said, "hey." David looked at Dani and casually said, "hey you. How'd it all go?" Dani breathed in and replied, "I guess I don't have to worry about breaking up with Christian. I found out less than an hour ago he died at the Midsommar festival." David's eyes widened in shock as he asked, "he what?!?! How?"

"Apparently Christian accidentally lit himself on fire trying to light a joint," explained Dani, trying to imagine Christian lighting himself on fire. "Wow, that's messed up," said David. "You're telling me," agreed Dani, "I could really use a drink. You cool with an appletini?" David nodded and said, "sure. Nothing wrong with that." David then ordered two appletinis which were then served to him and Dani. "So how do you feel about all this?" David asked. "I'm not sure what to feel," admitted Dani, "on the one hand... I want to feel relieved... On the other hand, I wish I had the opportunity to stand up to Christian, and I feel a little miffed knowing I'll never get that closure. He was an asshole that kept on gaslighting me. Am I... A bad person for not feeling sad by all this?" Dani sipped some of her appletini. "No, it's normal for a person to have mixed feelings when they hear that the person that hurt them suddenly died and they never get the closure they wanted," said David, "like you said, Christian was a gaslighting asshole. It's okay if you don't feel sad about Christian's death." Dani nodded and said, "yeah, you're right D.C.! Besides, I've survived worse, and I'm better off without Christian anyway. And I'll always have you." David nodded and said, "yeah. I can drink to that. To surviving?" Dani raised her glass and replied, "to surviving."
