Dawned

Patrick's POV:

I flew up into the clouds and saw Ray sitting at his desk in front of the gates of heaven. "Did you take care of that demon problem, Pat?" Ray asked while he worked on paperwork. "Yup," I replied popping the 'p'. He nodded, his fro bobbing slightly, then he went back to his work. Many think that the job of receptionist in heaven is useless, but what they don't know is that Ray is in charge of deciding who goes to heaven, hell, or purgatory. "Is Gabriel in?" I asked, interrupting Ray's work. He looked up at me, "As far as I know, yes." I nodded then pushed open the large golden gates and strolled inside.

I walked through the large corridors of doors, each opening to someone's personal heaven. When I approached the main office I knew deep down there was only a 50% chance Gabriel was here, he liked to spend his time down on Earth messing with people. I pushed open his door and saw the empty chair behind his desk.

I let out a hefty sigh, and turned to leave the room. Just before my hand connects with the handle I hear his voice down the hall. I smirk and sit in his chair and turn around, facing away from the door. Most angels would never joke with their superiors, but Gabriel was very relaxed and even takes the cover of a trickster when on Earth. When the door opens I spin the chair around and say "I've been expecting you." Gabriel cracks up, but I immediately get out of the chair when I see Barachiel standing next to him, he doesn't look amused.

"I-I'm s-s-so sorry," I stuttered. "It's fine, Patrick. That was perfect!" Gabriel chuckled. I nodded and stood to the side as the two archangels made their way to the desk. "Did you take care of that problem, Pat?" Gabriel asks after his laughing comes to a stop. "Yes, sir," I spoke gently. Gabriel looked at me with a confused expression, but dismissed me anyways.

I walked through the familiar halls and pushed open the gates. I say a quick goodbye to Ray then fall through the cloud layer. As I saw the city lights come into view I let my wings unfurl.  I glided just above the tall skyscrapers of the city, and looked down at all the people walking the streets. They looked so small, so minuscule, compared to the large structures they're surrounded by. Some of them looked up when they noticed me, others were too busy in their routine to notice their surroundings.

It's crazy to think they all have individual lives, individual thoughts, and individual views of the world. I flew past them all, I started my slow decent to the ground once I was far from the city limits. When I touched down I took a deep breath in, the smells of the countryside invaded my senses. I let out a hefty sigh.

I began thinking of why Barachiel would be with Gabriel. The only time Gabriel ever really spent time with his brothers and sisters was when something major was happening, the question was, what caused it this time?
