Fire Hazard

I should have known better, but the spark in your eyes lit a fire in my life that I was helpless to resist;

Never before had I ever felt such passion as I did when your touch sent heat coursing through my veins;

Tongues of flame leapt from your lips,
Your words set my soul alight, blazing past every fortress I'd erected around my heart, turning my stone walls to rubble;

Your golden glow drove back the shadows of sorrow, teaching me to hold you in such close correspondence with the bubbly warmth of happiness;

Then came the volcanic days of pointed words and pointless arguments,
Tear filled eyes that shone in the orange glow cast by your inferno;

Arms that once enveloped me in gentle heat grew undeniably harrowing,
Scorching fingers raked across my blistered skin, burned through my brittle bones;

Flaming arrows pierced my soul,
Smoldering eyes withered my heart beneath their fiery stare, incinerating my entire being, leaving nothing more than piles of ashes to tell the tale of the girl I once was;

The girl that learned, far too late, just how perilous it is to draw close to an open flame.
