Juliette Salvatore was the definition of light in the Salvatore family.

The youngest member and a year younger than Stefan and eight years younger than Damon.

Juliette Salvatore was the favorite child of Giuseppe Salvatore and he made no secret to hide it.

Juliette was his precious little angel that needed to be protected at all times. And it was the only thing Damon ever agreed with his father about. Juliette was too pure and kind for the world she was born in.  The small strawberry-blonde girl who smiled at everyone. Whose favorite past time making flower crowns that she somehow even convinced her father to wear.

In 1860 when the town of Mystic Falls was founded there wasn't a person that didn't know or love the younger Salvatore.

The girls either hated the girl or adored her. The men on the other hand wanted her. None more than George Lockwood.

George Lockwood was obsessed with the youngest Salvatore. He wanted her as his wife and everyone knew it.

Stefan and Damon both hated the idea. There was just something regarding the way George looked at their baby sister.

But Giuseppe never saw it. He believed George would be the perfect husband for his little girl. He did not stop George from courting her and dismissed any grievances Stefan and Damon had.

Something he would regret.

Juliette on the other hand for the first time in her life hated someone. She hated George Lockwood.

At first, she believed she could have loved him. She knew life wasn't like the books she read. There was no happily ever after with your soulmate. 

She knew whether she wanted to or not she would be his wife. She had no say in the matter.

But the first time he hit her Juliette ran to her father begging him to help her. To stop the courting and save her.

Giuseppe Salvatore's response to her was to not anger him. To be a better future wife.

Juliette knew her father wasn't the best man. She knew about some of the things he did to her brothers and how he treated them even when they tried to hide it.

But Juliette knew thought her father would allow a man to hurt her and tell her the consequences if she told anyone about what happened.

The consequences were her brothers.

For there was no one Juliette Salvatore would protect more than her own brothers. She loved them. Adored them. They were her heroes. And she would happily risk and sacrifice her life to save them.

In 1864 when Juliette was set to be married and her brother came home from the war does a new girl come to town.

Katherine Pierce was a girl who was orphaned by a fire that killed her family in Atlanta.

Hearing that Giuseppe decided to take her in where the vampire met the three Salvatore siblings.

Damon the one who fell deeply in love with her.

Stefan the one who didn't love her enough.

And Juliette the one she wanted to protect.

Katherine was the first one to find out the truth regarding Juliette and George. She had her suspicions especially due to Juliette not being able to lie to save her life.

But her suspicions were confirmed when he saw George backhand Juliette at the Founders Ball for speaking with another man who wasn't he or her father. 

Katherine wanted to kill him that night seeing the girl she felt the need to protect sobbing as she touched her face, but Juliette convinced her not to.

A mistake Katherine Pierce would never forgive herself for.

On September 25, 1864, the day of her seventeenth birthday Juliette Salvatore died.

Killed by her fiancé in a Lockwood rage witnessed by both of her brothers unable to do anything while watching their baby sister die in front of them.

After escaping from the tomb Katherine Pierce found both Salvatore brothers dead but the death she wasn't prepared to find out about was Juliette's.

But Katherine got her revenge for the youngest Salvatore.

George Lockwood was killed on September 26, 1864. His body was found torn in pieces and burned while he was still alive.

Waking up from their transition the Salvatore brothers hoped to find their sister alive as well.

But that day she never drank the special tea Katherine made for her to help with her bruises.

Damon Salvatore hid in the shadows watching as he baby sister was lowered into the ground while Stefan Salvatore lost himself in his grief and turned to his blood lust and revenge.

For if he couldn't kill the man responsible for his sister's death he would kill everyone for the night of the Battle of Willow Creek.

A year after their sister's death Damon left Mystic Falls with a suitcase and a necklace. A gold locket with moon stars and flowers engraved in it.

The necklace belonged to his sister and something Damon and Stefan gave her on her last birthday. A necklace to symbolize the three of them. And she never took it.

Damon took it off of her body after she died. As a way to never forget her. Not that either Salvatore brothers could.

They never forgot their baby sister and knowing that they could have saved her.

They could have.

Something neither would ever forget and never forgive themselves for.

They were supposed to protect her and when their baby sister needed them the most they were falling for some girl and not saving her.

In September 1992 a very pregnant Elizabeth Forbes arrived home to see a newborn baby girl on her doorstep.

She had no idea where she came from and no missing children matched her description near the area or anything.

Her husband Bill wanted to just say goodbye to the little girl but something in Liz told her to keep her.

With that Juliet Evelyn Forbes was adopted into the family.

And a month later her little sister Caroline Elizabeth Forbes was born.

Growing up the two girls knew they weren't related by blonde but that didn't mean the two didn't act like twins.

They were other halves of each other. The two creeped out their parents as they talked simultaneously. They held each other's hands when their Dad lived. Cheered each other on in everything in life. And when Juliet would wake up in the middle of the night screaming due to some weird nightmare Caroline would always hold her.

A nightmare where she had two brothers and was murdered in cold blood.

Something she never told anyone but Caroline about scared she would be locked up for being crazy.

Sixteen years after the Forbes sister's births the Gilbert family ran off the Wickery bridge and Miranda and Grayson Gilbert died while Elena lived.

And that was the beginning of how Juliet Evelyn Forbes's life changed once again.

For the oldest Gilbert was saved by someone passing through but decided to stay once he saw her face. Wanting to find out who she was.

But on the first day of school when Stefan Salvatore runs into his baby sister who has darker hair and more light in her eyes than he saw her last he thought his heart actually either stopped or began beating once again.

He couldn't leave Mystic Falls even if he wanted to. He couldn't leave without knowing she was his baby sister.

And if she was this time he would do whatever he had to make sure she lived.
