When it's time to leave,
Accepting is the earnest move...
It was early morning when Kousei woke up drenched in sweat, his heart pounding in his chest. The recurring dream of a mysterious female elf haunted his sleep, leaving him bewildered and restless. "Why do I keep dreaming about her? Who is she? Am I imagining things?"
Kousei sighed as he swung his legs over the edge of his bed and pulled back open his black curtains allowing the gentle morning light to filter in his room. It wasn't the first time that he dreamed about that female elf as he kept dreaming about her and for once, he had the thought that it may not be a dream but a memory instead. Even so, how can it be a memory? Elves couldn't be real!
"Was it really just a dream?" he asked himself. "The images are becoming clearer."
Kousei's thoughts were soon interrupted when his door opened and his girlfriend-Kaori-entered his room while accompanied by his father. He had been away from school for days as he was too sickly to even get up after he collapsed on stage after his piano perfomance with Kaori. He wasn't really that sick but the traumatic memories of his adopted mother's death consumed him.
"You finally rose out of your bed, son," Takahiko told him. "How are you? I allowed your girlfriend to visit you today."
"Dad, I'm still not okay," Kousei answered him. "Mother's death may just be too much for me. I kept dreaming about a female elf and I feel as if... as if she's calling me."
"Kousei-!" Gasps of worry surrounded his room after he said it. It was at that time that Kaori began to see how serious his condition was as for them, he was beginning to believe that his dreams were real. "Rest. Kousei, that's just a dream."
Kousei's eyes were also still empty and his chest began to hurt making him clench his fists. Soon, tears flowed out of his eyes.
"Were you drinking your medicines, son?" Takahiko asked him. "Those are just dreams."
"Medicines don't work," Kousei sighed. "The dreams are stronger than those memories."
"Kousei!" Kaori stepped closer to him and at the same, she helped him go back to his bed before something worse happen to him. "You're still sick."
"Thank you, Kaori," Kousei whispered, allowing her to guide him back to his bed. He took the offered medication from his father's hand and settled back onto the mattress, closing his eyes as exhaustion finally caught up with him.
...
As Kousei drifted into a restless slumber, his friends exchanged worried glances. The sight of him struggling in his sleep, tears staining his cheeks, painted a somber picture of his fragile state. The nightmares he endured spoke volumes about his internal battle, leaving his friends with a sense of helplessness.
"When did this start, sir?" Kaori asked Takahiko. "Kousei's a strong person. I know he'll get up and be himself again."
"Truth was, I don't know when. I can't pinpoint when my son started having those dreams," Takahiko answered her. "Kousei's been emotionally unstable since he collapsed on stage and he kept dreaming about a strange, ethereal, and enimagtic elf queen."
"Why would he dream about that?" Tsubaki, who had just arrived chimed in the conversation. "Why would he dream something so unreal?"
Kousei opened his eyes again, breath ragged as he gasped for air. His dreams couldn't be just dreams. They couldn't be illusions as he could feel a strong connection to it. Someone was manipulating it and someone was really calling him in. Those were memories. An unsettling presence seemed to loom just beyond his awareness, as if someone or something was beckoning him. At the same time, he felt an eerie, strong presence that had just arrived in front of their house.
"Kousei?" Takahiko urgently asked him. "What's wrong?"
"Someone's here," Kousei answered him. "Who... No. What am I?"
Takahiko wrapped his arms around Kousei and hugged him tightly. He didn't know how his adopted son knew that someone approached him and told him that Kousei was his biological son, after all. "Are you strong enough to get up? Can you manage to stand on your own? Someone's here for you. He told me he's your biological father. Even so, did you already know about this?"
Tsubaki and Kaori saw him look away from his father's eyes. Kaori couldn't believe it. "You knew that someone approached your father and told him that he's your real dad, am I right?"
"No," Kousei replied to her. "I never knew. It was just now that I sensed it."
"Then, how did you know?" Takahiko asked him. "I've never told you until now."
"Dad, I can feel it. I can sense it," he answered him. "I don't know if he really is my father, though."
The door creaked open and that was when they all saw Hiroko, Kousei's piano mentor. "A man named Mr. Alexandria and a woman named Revina is here. He told me he's here to meet you, Takahiko and also, Kousei."
Kousei closed his hands together, his fingers intertwining in a subconscious gesture of resolve. He didn't know if he should get up and meet this mysterious man but he knew that it was because of that man why he kept on dreaming something out of this world. He was a foundling and for the past fifteen years, his parents never found his biological parents until now. He was grappling over his identity and his dreams might have been a manifestation of his fears to discover untold truth.
"Should I meet him, dad?" Kousei asked him. "I am afraid of seeing him."
Takahiko sighed. "Let's just meet him, Kousei. We'll know if he really was your father when we meet him."
"No matter who he is, Kousei, you have to accept him if he really is your dad," Hiroko told him. "We'll make sure to see if he was really your biological father."
Kousei turned to Kaori. "Should I meet him? I don't know what I'll do. What if my biological father wasn't the kind man I hoped he'll be?"
"If the man waiting in the living room is really your biological father, don't you think he looked for you for years?" Kaori replied to him. "He wants to see you, Kousei. I'm sure he'd be happy to see you."
Kousei closed his eyes and at the time he opened them again, he got up and rose from his bed as he found enough strength to meet the man who informed Takahiko that he was Kousei's biological father. He knew that if the man waiting in the living room was really his biological father, he might lash out and scream in anger as he was left out alone without knowing his real origins for the past fifteen years but still, he knew he'd be thankful. "I'll meet him, then."
...
Soon, as they approached the living room, Kousei's gaze began to be fixated on the tall, serene man seated on their black couch. Long strands of silver hair cascaded down his shoulders, framing a regal face that exuded an air of authority. The man was dressed in a pristine white suit, a stark contrast to the somber atmosphere that had enveloped their home.
Kousei's heart raced as he took in the sight before him. Was this stranger truly his biological father? Doubts and questions swirled within his mind, casting a shadow over the anticipated reunion. He exchanged a glance with Kaori, seeking reassurance in her supportive presence.
Takahiko guided Kousei forward, their footsteps echoing in the tension-filled room. The man's eyes met Kousei's, and for a moment, an unspoken connection seemed to bridge the gap between them. The weight of uncertainty hung heavy in the air, as Kousei braced himself for the encounter that could potentially unravel the mysteries of his dreams and identity.
The man smiled at the time his eyes locked on Kousei as he was just so grateful to see him again. At the time he stepped closer to him, the man felt more connection to him and tears just ran down his eyes. "You are alive and well. I am happy to see you again, Kousei."
Kousei began to cry, too as he could feel his blood connection over the man but he was still grappling in the thought of leaving his old life, most of all, he looked so foreign and different from his adopted father, Kaori, and his piano mentor, Hiroko. "Are you really my father?"
Alexandria wiped his fifteen-year-old son's tears. "Kousei, I know you won't immediately understand but I am your father."
Silence soon covered the whole room as Kousei was grappling with the truth. He doesn't even know if he will be able to accept his biological father. He could feel it but he was afraid of being with a man who had just arrived and was claiming him already.
