Chapter 2

The next morning, Kula was walking to school, her hands shoved into her sweater pockets and her music on full blast.

As she was walking past an alleyway she suddenly felt a hand on her arm and she was roughly pulled into the area, shadows falling over her as she was pulled out of the public's eye. Looking towards her assailant her golden eyes made contact with familiar red ones peeking out from behind a gray hand mask.

"What do you want?" Kula started, narrowing her eyes as she pulled out one of her earbuds and turned down her music slightly, her eyes meeting the familiar reds of Shigaraki.

"I want you to join my cause." Shigaraki said, his cracked lips curving up into a grin.

Kula sighed, "My answer hasn't changed from the last time you've asked me. I'm not joining whatever this group of yours is. I might dislike hero society but I don't hate it enough to become a villain." She roughly pulled her arm from his grip- she's learned from past experiences that she did not want to be in direct contact of him when he gets annoyed. "Besides, I already know you only want me because of my quirk and I'm not too keen on that idea."

"You also have a brilliant mind, one that could help the League change Hero Society for the better."

Kula scoffed, "I think the two of us have very different definitions of 'better'. Just give up already. I've given you the same answer for the past year, I'm sure there are others way more willing to join you with whatever 'plan' you might have." She turned and started to walk out of the alleyway and back onto her route to school.

"What a shame. And here I was thinking I'd be able to spare that elderly shopkeep."

Kula froze in her spot and looked back towards Shigaraki. "What did you say?"

"I suspected that this would happen, so I had a friend of my take a trip over towards the support shop you've gone to every other day for the past year. Etsuko is quite the sweet lady."

"Don't you dare call her by her first name." Kula said, her hands balled into fists at her sides and she clenched her teeth. She knew one wrong move could turn her into a pile of dust. Her eyes flickered from side to side as she tried to think of anything she could do, but no matter what she could think of every result either ended in someone's death. Her shoulders slacked and her hands relaxed by her sides. "Fine. I'll go along with whatever plan you have. Just... keep Ms. Tatara out of it."

Shigaraki grinned and he pushed off from the wall. "I thought that might sway you. Glad to have you on board. Someone will contact you when you're needed." He handed her a flip phone before he pressed his hand towards his ear and muttered something before a dark mist appeared and surrounded him, leaving Kula standing alone in the alleyway.

Standing there alone, Kula could feel her eyes water as anger and hatred swelled up inside her. She glared down at the phone in her hand, her grip tightening around it. Shigaraki had been trying to get her to join his 'League' for a few weeks now- and he finally got what he wanted.

The rest of the morning passed by uneventfully. Kula managed to catch the train to school just in time and get to homeroom just a few minutes before the bell rang. All her morning classes seemed to pass by in a haze, after what she had been through this morning Kula wasn't able to focus on anything other than what Shigaraki would want her to do. She shuddered as the image of a corpse appeared in her head and her gaze went down to the flip phone she had shoved in her bag.

In the pre-quirk era she read that they had been used as methods of communication that wouldn't be able to be tracked. She assumed that this phone was the same as those that she had read about.

There was a sudden loud noise and Kula looked in front of her, where her teacher was standing in front of her, her book on Kula's desk- the probable cause of the loud slam. "Miss Kontorōru, please pay attention to the lesson." There were a few giggled and chuckles around her from her classmates as Kula was called out.

"Yes ma'am. Sorry." Kula said, bowing her head slightly and moving her attention towards what had been written on the chalkboard, though everything written seemed unintelligible. She had a feeling she'd have trouble understanding anything that was being taught today.

The class soon ended and lunch period started. As most of the class headed to the cafeteria Kula stayed in the room and pulled out a small bento box from her bag. Unwrapping the cloth around it she opened the box and started eating. Her lunch was rather simple, some rice, dried seaweed, and a simple sandwich cut in half.

Suddenly there was a small buzzing in her bag and Kula glanced down, seeing that the flip phone she had received earlier that morning was vibrating, a red light flashing to show that she was getting a call. Glancing around she made sure that she was alone before she reached down and grabbed the phone, flipping it open and pressing the answer button.

"Having a good lunch? That sandwich looked good." Shigaraki said from the other end of the line.

Kula tensed up and glanced towards the window. "Are you watching me?" She asked.

"I have to make sure the newbie doesn't say anything. And don't bother looking, you're not going to find me."

"Why are you calling?" Kula asked.

"Straight to the point, I like that. I want to talk with you this evening. You'd best be ready." With that he hung up and Kula pulled the phone away from her ear, looking down at the screen before she closed it and shoved it back into the bag. The call did nothing to help her anxiety from the morning and for the rest of the school day she felt as that the whole school would hear her heart with how loud it was pounding in her ears.

By the time the bell rang to dismiss the last period class Kula was a nervous wreak. She grabbed her bag and rushed out before anyone could confront her. She started to head on her normal route to head home as she realized that Shigaraki hadn't specified any type of meet up area. Was he going to pull her into an alleyway like he did this morning?

It wasn't long before her question was answered. She had taken a step forwards and instead of stepping on solid ground, her foot shot downwards, causing her to fall forwards into the same mist she had seen engulf Shigaraki that morning.

She closed her eyes as she fell, a cold falling over her body as she passed through the mist before she landed on solid ground. Blinking her eyes open she saw that she was in some sort of dimly lit bar. Behind the counter there was a man that was entirely made of the same mist that brought her here and sitting at one of the bar stools was Shigaraki, a glass with what Kula could only assume was some kind of alcohol in it.

"I'm glad you could join us."

Kula pushed herself up and rubbed her arm, she must of landed on it when she fell. "What do you want?"

"You want to get into U.A, correct?" Shigaraki said, completely ignoring her question. "The support course if I remember."

"You looked at my files?"

"I have to know who I'm letting in on my plans. Now, I'm sure you want to get home before your dear parents start to miss you." He tilted his head back and grinned, "Before you go I have one simple request."

Once their conversation was over, the man of mist- Kurogiri- opened a warp gate and Kula stepped through, appearing right in front of her house. The fact that they knew where she lived made her uneasy, but her mind was too occupied with the conversation she had just had with the crusty hand man.

He wanted her to spy on the school- but for her to do that she needed to get accepted first and even though the support course was less desired than the hero course the acceptance rate was still only around 13%. Sure she was smart and she knew a thing or two about support gear but there was no guarantee that she would be able to get accepted. And not only does she have to get accepted she'll then have to sneak around in a school full of heroes and heroes in training and go behind their backs to feed information to some villains.

There goes any chance that she might of had at a normal high school life.

She opened her front door and stepped inside her house. Slipping off her shoes she looked up, seeing a woman standing in front of her.

"Kula, sweetie, welcome home." The woman said, looking down at Kula with a sickly sweet smile on her face.

"Mrs. Kontorōru." Kula said, narrowing her eyes and seeing her mother's expression to turn sour for a split second before it returned to the way it was before.

"Can't you call me mom, sweetie, after all I am still your mother." She reached forwards and placed a hand on Kula's cheek, causing the teen to flinch slightly at the contact. "Nothing about that has changed."

"You're delusional." Kula said, slapping her mother's hand away from her face. "I'm not in the mood to deal with you right now so I'm going to head up to my room. Don't talk to me." She adjusted her bag and walked past the woman and headed upstairs to her room, closing the door behind her as she walked in.

Plopping her bookbag down next to her desk she sat down at her chair and started to sort through her bag, taking out a workbook and some worksheets. She had just barely started her work when she saw her door open in the corner of her vision.

"Didn't I tell you not to bother me?" Kula called out, only to feel a hand on the top of her head and her body fell slack, her muscles refusing to listen to her. She glanced up to see a man with black hair standing behind her. He adjusted his glasses and looked down at Kula, a coldness in his gaze that seemed to pierce her core.

"You know I hate doing this. But you can't keep brushing off your mother like this." He said, raising his hand and forcing Kula to stand up from her seat.

"Liar." Kula forced out, still unable to control her body as she stiffly walked out of her room and down the stairs, her dear father walking behind her. She walked over towards the kitchen table, where Mrs. Kontorōru was sitting, a thrift store bag on the table right beside her.

Despite her trying to move away, her body sat down at the table across from Mrs.  Kontorōru.

"I'm glad to see you changed your mind." Mrs. Kontorōru said with a smile, "I have a request."

Kula knew exactly where this was going, twice a week Mrs. Kontorōru would go to the thrift store and bring home cheap trinkets and would force Kula to use her quirk on them. Then in the next few days she'd drive around to different Jewelry stores or pawn shops and sell all of the pieces. Going to all the different shops was how she avoided getting any suspicions placed on her- as well as avoided any type of inflation issues by going to only one shop.

Slowly, the older woman placed everything she bought on the table. A pair of earrings, a set of matching bracelets, a bird pendant, and finally a rusting silver tea kettle with a dent in the side. Mrs. Kontorōru leaned back and grinned, "Now, I think you know what to do."

Kula gritted her teeth, and despite her trying to refuse, her body started moving on it's own. Her hands slid off one of her gloves and slowly she reached and touched each of the objects with all five of her fingers. Five minutes later the cheap objects were now all glistening gold and Kula's head was pounding, nausea threatening to overwhelm her at even the slightest movement.

The woman in front of her squealed and picked up the teapot, her eyes shining, "I bet I could sell this at a really high price!" She looked down at Kula, "You're free to go, dear."

Kula felt her father place his hand on her head and she was released from his control. Sliding her glove back on she pushed herself out of her chair, stumbling a little as she did so. She closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose as her head pounded. She stood still for a second before she slowly headed back to her room.

Stepping inside she closed her door behind her and turned off her light and shit her curtains, feeling the slightest bit of relief as she blocked out all of the light. She slinked over to her bed and laid face down.

Laying on her back she stared up at her ceiling as her head started spinning and eventually the black at the edges of her vision started to get larger and soon the darkness completely surrounded her.
