Chapter 4: New Comers
Mr. Petrovic and I have just finished lessons. I know he wants me to call him, Michael but I don't feel comfortable.
"Well, Lillian. You did good today," He says smiling, "Except you aren't doing too well in math."
"Really?" I ask, math is the hardest subject I have, "It's just hard."
"Just tell me if you ever need help," He smiles.
"Okay," I smile back, "Thank you."
"It's no problem, we haven't had supper, have we?" He asks, getting up from his chair.
"No, sir," I shake my head.
"Well then, are you hungry?"
"Yes," I wasn't hungry until he brought up the fact that we didn't eat.
"Well then let's e-" he gets cut off by Mr. Vorlel.
"Sir, may I talk to you?" Mr. Vorlel asks.
Mr. Petrovic looks at him then nods. They walk out the room and into the hallway.
Michael Petrovic's POV
"Sir, I have something I'd like to say," Vorlel speaks to me but extremely slow.
"Well...yes?" I raise my eyebrows.
"I think we should get more workers around here," He gulps, "Like us of course."
"And why is that?" I frown.
"Sir, after what happened yesterday..." he drifts off.
"I told you I wouldn't do it again," I told him and Lillian this plenty of times.
"Mic- Sir, we, I mean, I cannot hold you back every time she bleeds. You are very strong. And after what happened to Kei-"
"No, don't you bring up that name," I snap. "I didn't mean it...I didn't mean to do it," I say shaking my head.
"But, Sir you did do it, and it can always happen again," He's right. I wouldn't be able to control myself.
"You're right, Vorlel. You're very right. Get more workers," I sigh, "Actually no more than three, you know how I am."
"Yes, yes of course, sir."
"And like us," I squint my eyes at him. He nods and leaves. I walk back into the room to see Lilian working on some math.
She's really beautiful. But she's only 17, as for I am 27. And in their world I can go to prison for anything I do with her. Though in my council you can be any age over 16 and you're legal.
Her big dark brown eyes meet mine and she smiles.
"Mr. Petrovic, look. Did I get them right?" She smiles as she waves a piece of paper in my face, "Or at least some right..."
"Well let's see," I smile. I take her paper and take a seat down next to her.
She shakes her leg up and down from her nervousness I guess.
"Hey, calm down," I put my hand on top of hers that was laying on the desk.
She looks at my hand then up at me.
I clear my throat, "Sorry. And you've gotten most of them right."
"I officially hate math," she knots her eyebrows.
"Math was never my favorite subject either," I smile at her, "Remember whenever you need help, I will help you."
"Thank you, Mr. Petrovic," She smiles. I wonder why she still calls me that.
"Ready to eat?" I ask. She looks at me then yawns.
"No, sir. I'm tired," She says getting up ready to leave. But I grab her arm before she can.
She gives me a look, "Uh...it's not good if you don't eat. You need um...your protein," I smile trying to make it less awkward.
"Sir, I'm really sleepy. Really sleepy," She says. I sigh and let go of her arm.
I don't like to be alone I've been alone for forever. Vorlel and, someone's name who shouldn't be mentioned, were the only friends I've had. Now that Lillian's here I want to be her friend, so I wouldn't be so lonely anymore.
"Night, sir," she does a little nod with her head.
"Goodnight," I sigh.
Lillian's POV
I wake up to howling. I walk over to my closet and get my robe and slippers. I walk down into the dining hall to eat breakfast. I see a note laying straight up in the side of my dish.
Hello Lillian,
Today I will take you on another tour around my home. Only if you want to.
~Michael
I crumble the note and toss it in the trash. I finish eating and go into my bedroom to take a shower, brush my teeth, and get ready.
♣
On my way to the library I see Mr. Vorlel and three other people.
"Ah, good morning, Ms. Lillian," He smiles crookedly, "These are our new workers. Jasper, Edward, and Jessica."
"Hello," I wave to everyone. They stare at me like they want to eat me. It's just Jasper, and Jessica. they look at each other then at Mr. Vorlel.
"Can we talk to you for a second?" Jasper asks.
Mr. Vorlel walks out of the room with all three of them.
Mr. Vorlel's POV
"You haven't told us you have a... human," Jasper says, clearly not too happy.
"Your papers told me you can control yourself around them," I say, "Was it true?"
"Well yes, but her blood is so sweet, the smell," He licks his lips, "We will not hurt or harm her in anyway, sir. We can control ourselves. "
"I'd like to speak," Edward, the shy one says, "Jasper has problems controlling himself around humans. Don't lie Jasper, you know what happened last time."
"Edward, shush. That was a long time ago. I'm done now," He smiles, "I'll feed on animal's blood. It's sweet also."
"Whatever, Jasper. Promise you won't do anything to her?" Edward says, "You too Jessica, you look like you're planning on ways to get her to yourself."
"Huh? Oh, no just...thinking," she gives him a devious smile, "When's the boss coming?"
"Soon, soon," I say, "Well let me give you a tour."
"Great, I love to tour," Jasper says, sarcastically.
Lillian's POV
I walk into the library. I grab a book that reads 'real or fake?' With an image of a werewolf and vampire on it. Obviously it's fake.
I sit down and begin to read it.
"What're you reading?" I hear someone ask. I turn around from the couch and see, Edward.
"Oh umm, just a thing about vampires and werewolf's."
"Cool, Lillian, is it?" I nod, "So how old are you?" He asks. He's very nice, polite, and has a deep voice.
"I'm 17," I say. "May I ask you the same, sir?"
"Oh, just call me, Edward. And 24." He smiles.
He's way younger than I thought he was. He looks 30, but cute.
"Well, Edward," I smile. "Why did Mr. Petrovic need more workers? He has, Vorlel, isn't that enough?"
"Well, Lillian I think that's up to, Mr. Petrovic to tell you," He smiles politely, "Lillian, promise me, you will not be with Jasper or Jessica alone?"
"Why?" I ask.
"Just because. Just promise me?"
"Yeah, I promise," I frown.
"Well, good then. Goodbye, Lillian. See you around," He smiles then leaves the room.
I wonder why he didn't want me with Jasper or Jessica alone. They seem a little awkward but friendly.
"Lillian?" I hear. I turn around to see, Mr. Petrovic.
"Mr. Petrovic!" I throw my book on the couch I was sitting on and I walk over to him.
"Ready to go on the tour?" He asks.
"Yeah. Sir, can I please ask you something?"
"Anything, Lillian," He smiles.
"Well, why did you get new workers? I like Mr. Vorlel...kind of. But now there's more," I say, a bit more than needed.
"Well...um, I needed more help around the house," He says walking out of the library door," I see you like the library."
"Yes, sir. Just like you said, 'Reading calms the mind'," I smile.
My face hurts from smiling so much.
"Yes, it does," He nods, "So I like to start off with the dining rooms. You eat on dining room floor 2. Floor 1 is being remodeled."
I nod, understanding.
"There's 12 dining rooms. Almost every 8 floors share a dining room."
"Wow," I say and raise my eyebrows.
"Yeah. Now let's go to the outside." He says grabbing my hand, "It's for safety reasons."
We take an elevator down to floor 1, where we walk out the front door to be greeted by a bunch of trees and the red sky.
"Sunset's pretty," He says.
"Sure is," I nod. He's still holding onto my hand. He's wearing red leather gloves with his usual black attire.
"Lillian, do you like it here?" I nod, "Are you sure? Do I scare you in any way?"
"No you don't. And I love it here," I say as honest as I could.
"Well I'm glad," He smiles and walks me to the garden.
