Chapter 8: After School

"C'mon boys you can do it!!!" Nia yelled with her hands cupped over her mouth.

"You can do this Jay Jay!" Sabrina yelled as Jason looked back at her and smiled.

I would yell and cheer for them, but I'm too shy. There's too many people here.
Sitting on the first row on the bleachers is kinda scary cause I think some basketballs are going to hit me. I hate balls.... sports balls. They're so scary when they come towards you. I've been hit with a lot of basketballs and footballs in my life that I am now terrified when it come towards my way.

I looked at Michael playing basketball with his brothers over at the far corner of the gym and Prince on the other side getting help from a coach with his shooting.

I think it is kinda true that Prince kinda look shorter than everybody else in the gym, but that doesn't mean he's not good at shooting. He can shoot a basketball better than some other guys can. So does Michael. I can tell Michael is really good at basketball. He runs like a cheetah and throws the ball and makes it every time.

Michael and his brothers stopped playing and start talking to each other. Michael looked back at me and smiled. I smiled back and looked down kinda acting like I wasn't staring at him. All of a sudden I heard him call my name and I jumped a little. I looked up and he motioned his finger for me to come here. I got up hesitantly and went over there to him and his brothers.

"Hey." I said quietly holding my arm.

"You wanna play?" He asked holding out the basketball.

I shook my head, "No, I kinda don't like playing basketball."

"C'mon you'll like it Ariel." I heard Jermaine say.

"No, I'm good." I shyly shook my head.

Michael handed me the basketball he had and walked behind me. Michael pointed at the square of the backboard. "Focus on the middle of the square." He said.
I felt eyes glued on me as I stood holding the ball in my hands not knowing what to do.

"You can do it." I heard Michael say.

My heart raced faster as the brothers and some people on the bleachers stared at me. I bend my legs and threw the ball as hard as I could, making it hit the backboard and bounce off. I heard some people laugh and giggle from the bleachers far behind me and felt my cheeks heat up.

"Very close, just don't do it too hard." Jackie chuckled.

"Why are y'all wanting me to play?" I asked them feeling embarrassed.

For some reason, I feel like they're making fun of me. And some people on the bleachers...

Marlon chuckled, "So we can see how bad you are."

Michael hit the back of his head and Marlon laughed. "No don't listen to him, he's stupid." Michael rolled his eyes. "I just wanted you to play with us cause you kinda looked bored over there." He forced a smile.

I smiled, "Thanks but I wasn't really bored." I blushed.

"How were you not bored? He asked shooting the ball. "Just sitting and watching us play is boring."

"Well, I thought it was a little entertaining watching y'all play and have fun." I said.

"Play with us and have fun, it's more better." Michael smiled at me handing me the basketball.

I didn't really want to play but okay...

I dribbled the ball and tried my best to make the ball go through the basket. It didn't work. Now I feel more embarrassed cause I keep hearing a lot of laughter behind me and a laughter from the brothers. I let the ball roll off to somewhere else and uncomfortably stood there as they stared at me.

"Wow, we really need to teach this girl some skills." Marlon said with his eyes wide open.

I sighed and shook my head, "Imma go sit down." I mumbled. I turned around and Kaitlyn and popped up.

"Lemme show you how it's done lil one." Kaitlyn smiled at me as she walked passed me.

Kaitlyn grabbed the ball I threw, dribbled and shoot the ball making it perfectly through the basket as the brothers and I watched. A few cheers from the bleachers grew as she giggled and smiled at them.

"Wow! A girl that can actually play basketball!" Marlon said excitably.

Dude. She just shot the ball. She wasn't playing basketball...

"You got some skills." Tito smiled at her.

"Thanks, I thought it'll be nice to show her how to shoot." Kaitlyn smiled at me.

Ugh.

"You should probably teach her cause she ain't got skills like you." Marlon laughed.

Michael walked up to him and slapped his arm.

"Dude. Shut up. That's not nice." He gritted his teeth at him.

"I was kidding." Marlon pushed Michael.

I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"You know what, I should've not had came down here anyways." I turned around and walked off.

I knew it. I knew they were probably gonna make fun of me.

Michael walked towards me holding the basketball under his arm.

"Ariel. Are you oka-"

"Go. I don't wanna hear it." I held my hand in front of me.

"I'm sorry. It's Marlon. He's stupid. Remember?
Don't listen to him." He sat beside me.

Last time Marlon did something to me was last year, he embarrassed me in front of the whole school..... I don't wanna think about it right now.

"If he say something else, he's gonna have a piece of me." I mumbled putting my chin on the palm on my hand.

He sighed, "It's okay. Do you wanna play with me instead?" He asked.

I shook my head, "No, I'm fine. I'll watch." I said.

"You sure?" He asked.

I nodded my head.

"Okay." He got up and hurried back to his brothers and Kaitlyn.

In the corner of my eye, I could tell Latoya was probably listening to our conversation. She tapped my arm and I looked at her.

"What happened? Who did it?" She asked.

I rolled my eyes, "It was Marlon and Kaitlyn." I mumbled crossing my arms.

"What they do?"

I sighed loudly, "Never mind. Okay? Just never mind I'll probably tell you later." I said getting irritated from some laughter around me.

Latoya backed away a little holding her hands up in surrender position.

I heard Sabrina sigh and chuckle a little behind me.

"You mad cause you didn't make the goal?" She asked.

I turned around and rolled my eyes at her.

"C'mon it's just a little shooting game. You can't get mad over a shooting game." She playfully punched my arm.

"Oh, so that's what happened?" Latoya asked Sabrina.

"No that's not what happened!" I said getting irritated.

"I saw that Kaitlyn went over there and showed you how and then you got mad." Sabrina played with her fingers.

"Well- yeah." I nodded.

"See. You got mad cause you didn't make the goal and she did." She chuckled.

"No it's because-"

"Stop being a sore loser, it's just a game Ariel. You're so dramatic." Sabrina cut me off.

"Sabrina! I'm not being a sore loser, I just felt embarrassed!" I punched her knee.

"Why?" She asked.

I sighed loudly, "Because people were watching and the brothers too and it makes me feel like a complete loser." I mumbled crossing my arms.

"So? You act like this is serious. Students are laughing at the people who are playing, not just you." She said.

"You just really like to piss me off do you?" I mumbled.

"How am I pissing you off? Huh? Are you in that time of month?" She chuckled.

"No! Just because I'm pissed doesn't mean I'm on that time of month! Now leave me alone!" I yelled.

"Why are you getting all pissed off over that lil game over there?" She pointed at the brothers and Kaitlyn.

"Well- uh- maybe it's because she don't like Kaitlyn." Latoya spoke up. "I don't either."

Sabrina scoffed, "I don't either but you don't have to get mad cause she made the goal."

My head shot back at her,"I'm not mad that she made the goal! It's just-"

"That you're getting mad over a game?" Sabrina chuckled.

I wish she can leave me alone!!!

"No, I heard Michael talking about Marlon to her when she came over here. It's Marlon, he's my brother and he's a jerk. He probably said something to her." Latoya told Sabrina.

"Yeah that's it." I told Sabrina pointing at Latoya.

"Then what did he say?" Sabrina asked.

"He said that I was bad at basketball and I need some skills and uh then Kaitlyn came over then he said that she should teach me how to play basketball cause of how bad I am." I said.

Sabrina chuckled, "Oh my gosh Ariel, you're such a cry baby. Why can't you take a lil joke?"

I turned around and crossed my arms.

She just like to turn everything on me like it's my fault.

"Why don't you just stay out of my business? We wouldn't have had this argument if you just kept your thoughts to yourself." I mumbled.

"We wouldn't have had this argument if you didn't act like a little cry baby out there." She snapped. "You probably need a nap cause you're a little crabby right now." Sabrina laughed.

"Sabrina shut the fuck up before I knock all your teeth out!" I held my fist up.

Latoya held her hand out between us, "Woah. Woah. Don't start a fist fight now, y'all just got done having a lil silly argument. Shake it off." She said.

I sighed and leaned forward resting my chin on the palm of my hand.

Sabrina always have to start shit. That's one of the things I hate about her.

I looked to my right and I saw a lot of people grouped up cheering and being loud with their phones in their hand.

Oh no. This means there's a fight. I guess this is the first fight the year. This is the second day of school and there's already a fight?

Everyone rushed towards the unseen fight surrounded by a group of people holding their phones recording.

"Help maah!!!" I heard a person scream from where the fight is.

All of a sudden the brothers stopped their little game and rushed over there. So did my friends and Sabrina. Everyone started shouting and laughing and a few teachers ran over there yelling for them to stop. I got up from the bleachers and rushed over there to see what's going on.

"Somebody helpp mee!!!!" I heard a familiar voice scream.

That's probably the only who's getting fought and nobody is helping?!

I pushed through the crowd of crazy stupid people getting hype because of the fight they see.

I can't stand people like this. I can't stand people who think fights are funny because it's totally NOT.

I pushed through the big crowd of people a saw Jason on top of Prince punching his face rapidly.
I gasped at the view I saw. Jason beating up one my best friends.

I barely even know Jason and I really hate him now! Why would Sabrina date a guy like him?!

I grabbed Jason by his shirt trying to pull him off of Prince. Jason kept punching Prince and pushing me off of him.

"Get off of him!!!!" I yelled in his ear.

He kept punching and strangling Prince as he bled from his nose. A few security guards rushed through the crowd and rushed towards us.

"Get off him!" One security yelled over the loud students.

I quickly got up and let the two security guards do the job. They pulled Jason off and dragged him out of the crowd while I kneeled down to Prince to see if he was okay. He was laying on the floor with his hand holding his nose and his arm wrapped around his torso.
"Ohmygosh Prince are you okay?!" I asked over the loud voices.

He shook his head in pain and tried to get up but he couldn't.

I quickly helped Prince up off the floor and put his arm around my shoulder. Everyone walked away with loud conversations and laughter. I could tell some was watching the video they've recorded cause I could hear Prince screaming. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around.

"Is Prince okay?" I tall man asked.

I looked at his uniform and his name tag that says Coach Breen. I looked at Prince. He has a dark black eye, a big red lump on the side of his head and a runny, bloody nose that is dripping down to his hands.

"Does he look okay?!" I said getting irritated.

The coach eyes widened, "Oh uh- well I think you should take him to the nurse's off-"

"I am taking his to the nurse's office!" I shouted storming out the gym with Prince.

"S-slow down! You're hurting my-" Prince cried.

"Oh- I-I'm sorry." I said feeling bad.

We walked slowly down the hallways trying to find the nurses office which took about five minutes.

I hope the janitors have fun cleaning up all the blood off the floors.

We rushed in the nurse's office and Prince sat down on the chair next to the door.

The nurse turned around in her chair. "Hey there. How may I hel-"

"No time to talk! We need tissue! A lot of tissue! He's bleeding through his nose!" I freaked.

The nurse popped up out of her chair and grabbed a lot of tissues out of the cabinet and handed them to me. I rushed to Prince and held the tissues to his nose and gave him a lot of tissues for his bloody hands.

"Woah. What happened?" The nurse asked.

"He was beaten." I mumbled. "Can we just not talk about this right now?" I asked her.

She sighed and sat on her chair.

"Do you want me to call his parents and-"

"Of course I want you to call his parents! What kind of question was that?!" I snapped.

"Okay okay. Please calm down." She grabbed the phone and put it to her ear.

"What's your name sweetie?" She asked Prince.

"P-Prince N-Nelson." He said in pain.

"And what's your parents phone number?" She asked.

He told her his parents phone number and she dialed it. I looked at Prince's teary red eye and black eye.

"Are you okay? I'm so sorry." I said quietly.

"W-why are you sorry? You're the only one that helped me." He said.

"I know." I looked down. "Why in the world did he attack you?" I asked.

He sighed, "I don't know." He mumbled. "He doesn't like me for some reason."

I sighed and threw the old tissues in the trash and quickly grabbed new ones and held his nose with it. I looked at his hands from his bloody nose and made a disgusted face.

"I-I think you need to wash your hands." I said.

"Your parents aren't picking up. I've called twice." The nurse told Prince.

I sighed, "It's okay. He can come over my house until his parents come home I guess." I mumbled.

"Are you sure?" She asked.

Oh yeah, my mom is not home. Ugh. I might have to ask Trey to pick us up.

"Yeah." I nodded carefully helping Prince up.

Prince slowly got up and we headed towards the little bathroom not too far away from us. I pumped a lot of soap in his hands and let his wash his hands in cold water.

I hope Sabrina does something about her lil boyfriend before I beat his ass. That's my freaking best friend and he just kinda destroyed Prince's face! Now it's my turn to destroy Jason's face...
