Chapter 11: Cheer Tryouts

~Next Day~
Prince came to school with a huge bandage on the side of his head and bandaids covered up his scratches and people would stop and laugh at the way he looks. Then, they'll bring up the fight from yesterday and laugh about it. I've heard that almost the whole school have watched it on Instagram and it's going viral.

I can't believe the most stupidest things go viral really quick.

Of course Prince tried to stand up for himself and tell them to stop before he beats them up but they don't listen.

Sabrina and I haven't talked to each other all day after that argument last night. She didn't sit with us at lunch today, she sat with her other Sophomore friends and Jason. Mama told her to break up with Jason and it looks like she's never gonna break up with him. She keeps kissing and hugging him, I even spotted them making out in the hallway between class periods and it was the most disturbing thing in the world. I'm surprised they didn't suspend him from school after that fight.

So, school was kinda awkward and boring today, I didn't really hang with my friends at lunch but Prince today. I thought Michael was gonna meet me at the front of the cafeteria, he said he'll be there but he wasn't. I spotted Michael sitting with his brothers and Kaitlyn, which made me really mad because Latoya and Rebbie was over there too.
Kaitlyn kept hugging Michael and looking back at me to make sure I was watching but I acted like I didn't see nothing at all. She's such a bitch and I can't stand her. Michael wanted me to sit with them but I denied it because Kaitlyn was sitting there with them.
I've been texting Latoya and asked her why isn't she coming over where I was and she didn't reply back because she was having so much fun with the people on the table. Nia and Erica, well I don't know where the hell they've been, I've been texting them and they didn't reply. So, I've been with Prince with just us alone on the table and of course people were laughing at him and replaying the video from yesterday.

*Ring* *Ring*

The last school bell rang as people quickly rushed out the classroom.

"Make sure you do you're homework! It's due tomorrow!" Ms. Tele shouted.

I walked out the classroom and headed my way towards the gym for cheer tryouts. I still don't know the ways around this school I only know how to go to algebra since Michael showed me how yesterday and today again. Algebra was the same as yesterday. Michael was giving me notes asking about what happened to Prince. I told him everything and about the argument Sabrina and I had last night he thought it was pretty crazy too.
I quickly went down the school stairs and walked down the crowded hallway trying to find the gym and I felt a light touch on my shoulder. I looked over and it's Latoya.

"Hey Ariel." She smiled with her hair in a high ponytail.

I weakly smiled at her, "Hey."

"I couldn't find you in the cafeteria, I wanted you, Nia and Erica to eat with us. Where were you?" She asked.

I sighed, "Oh, I was in the cafeteria and I texted you and told you where I was." I said in a attitude.

Latoya flinched back, "You texted me?" She asked pulling her phone out. "I-I didn't get it. I'm sorry."

"It's okay." I nodded.

"Did you eat by yourself or something cause if you did I'm sooo sorry." She put a hand on my shoulder.

"No, I ate with Prince. It's okay."

"My phone is probably off." She said looking at her phone. "Ready for cheer?" She looked back up at me looking excited.

I smiled, "Yes, I hope I make it."

"I know you'll make it Ariel, you know how to do everything! I don't even know how to do a simple cartwheel." She laughed.

I laughed with her, "Don't worry, they'll teach you." I said. "And I know you're ready for cheer." I looked at her clothes up and down. She's wearing a pink spaghetti strap shirt and black Nike shorts with her high ponytail up.

"I know, I changed last period." She looked down at her clothes.

*

We walked into the gym filled with a lot of girls stretching on the floor and some standing up talking. The gym floor is covered with a dark blue soft mat and a big stereo in front of a wooden table which seems like where the coach sits. We walked and sat on the gym floor and begin stretching together.
I stretched for the splits, which made my legs burn a little and stretched for my back. I haven't done stretches in a while so I'm kinda stiff. Then I saw Kaitlyn and Justice walk in the gym dressed in the same outfit. Really bright and bold hot pink tank top and really short black shorts and high ponytails.

Oh no. Here's the little bratty bitches.

They came in chatting and giggling, they sat their bags down on the floor behind us and begin stretching. We stretched for a while until I heard Kaitlyn's voice.

"Hey Bleu." She called out behind me.

Just ignore her.

I looked over at Latoya and she shook her head to tell me not to talk to her. I nodded my head agreeing.

"Ariel!" She called. "I know you hear me."

I reached to my right leg and stretched ignoring her annoying voice.

"Hey bitch answer!" She raised her voice even louder.

I got irritated and popped my head back towards her.

"What?!" My voice could tell that I was highly irritated.

"You're not gonna make the cheer tryouts." She smiled.

I rolled my eyes and turned my body towards her wrapping my arms around my legs.

"You're not either if you keep yapping like that. Keep doing what you're doing, and you won't make the tryouts because you're gonna be in the hospital."  I snapped.

She chuckled and looked back at Justice holding her hand to her chest, "You're gonna be in the hospital after we drop your heavy fat ass. You'll fall flat on the ground and make a big hole on the floor." She crossed her arms.

I felt my face get hot as my fists clenched. I felt Latoya's hand on my shoulder for her attention.

"Don't listen to her, you'll be fine." Latoya mouthed trying to calm me down.

I popped my head back towards Kaitlyn and Justice and looked at them with the most anger in my face and they sat and giggled at me.

The coach, Coach Henry dressed in a tight red shirt, loose Nike black shorts with white and black nike shoes walked up with a huge smile on her face.

"Hey class. We're going to be teaching you a little routine today and if you want to be a flyer, we'll add that after I see you dance!" She shouted with enthusiasm. "But first we have to check roll." She said walking to the wooden table grabbing a white clipboard.

"Chanel!" She called out a student's name looking at her clipboard. The girl shouted "Here" with her hand up. The coach called all our names out which took about 5 minutes. She turned on some music and we learned a simple dance routine. The routine didn't really have a lot of hard stuff, it was just a simple 1 minute dance. She would practice the dance with us a few times then it was time to dance on our own. The students sat on the bleachers, waiting for their turn to go and dance for the coach and show them splits and tricks that they can do. The students are all watching as one by one go, making me nervous for my turn.

I know I'll mess up the routine and fall flat on my face. I can just feel it.

If we want to be a flyer, we have to get two volunteers from the students that want to be the base. Some students fell while the other people held them up, so I'm terrified that they'll drop me too.

The girl with brown hair and tan skin, finished the dance and her routine up in the air. She quickly hurried off after Coach Henry wrote down stuff about her on her clipboard.

"Miss. Ariel Bleu!" She called out looking up from her clipboard.

My turn.

I gulped feeling a lump in my throat as everyone glanced at me. I felt more nervous and afraid to make one move.

"C'mon Ariel. You'll be fine." Latoya smiled brightly at me. "It's fun, you'll like it."

Latoya was the very first, she did the dance routine correctly and tried out to be a flyer. She did it all perfect and ran back smiling really big at me saying that she want to do it again.

It makes me kinda excited that I'll probably come back smiling like Latoya did but I'm scared.

I took a deep breath and stood up from the bleachers. I walked slowly making my way to the middle of the gym as the gym grew silent.

"Tell me about yourself sweetie." Coach Henry smiled at me with her big and bright white teeth.

I was tightly grasping my hands behind my back "I-I'm fourteen and I- uh" My voice shook.

"No tell me about what you can do. Splits? Backflips?" She explained.

"Uh- I-I can do some uh backflips, splits, front flips, toe touch, back-handsprings." I said feeling my hands sweat and my cheeks getting hot.

"Ariel, I can tell that you're scared. Don't worry about it." She said calmly.

I took a deep breath and slowly let it out.

"Can you show me what you can do before you show me the dance routine?" She politely asked.

I nodded my head thinking what should I show her first.

Back-handspring
No no no. I'll just do a little mixture. Round off, backhand- springs, backflips and a split at the end? Yeah. I hope my body is ready for all this. I haven't tumbled in a long time. I'm sure if I do this, I'll make the team.

I backed out to the wall and ran to the middle of the gym preparing a round off. I landed on both feet transitioning to two back-handsprings. While I was tumbling, I heard a few cheers and gasps from the bleachers. I kinda paused, distracted from from everyone on the bleachers. I jumped high leaning myself backwards, tucking my legs, making me kinda startle cause I haven't done a backflip in a long time. I landed flat on my stomach, making a huge thump on the gym floor as everyone laughed and shouted. My face grew in embarrassment as I quickly got up from the floor and covered my face with my hands.

Gosh this is just too embarrassing!

"Are you okay Ariel?" asked the coach as she rushed over to me.

I shook my head slowly feeling my eyes water and face get hot.

Oh no. Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't cry.

"Okay, why don't you go sit down for a minute, I'll call you up later. Okay?" She patted my back.

I nodded and rushed back to my seat still covering my eyes as the students continued laughing at me.

"Are you okay Ariel? I'm so sorry that happened!" I heard Latoya as I felt her hand gently rub my back.

"Haha. Did you get it Justice?" I heard Kaitlyn's voice.

"Yep. I got it all. I think Imma save it." I heard Justice.

"Make sure you post it on Instagram." I heard Kaitlyn.

Did they just really record me?!

"Post what on Instagram?!" Latoya's voice raise.

"Uh. Haha. The video I just took silly." I heard Kaitlyn.

I shot my head up not caring if they see my watery eyes.

"Delete the video." I gritted my teeth.

"Nope." She smiled showing her teeth.

"Kaitlyn Turner!" The coach called from the front of the gym.

"Ooh. That's me." Kaitlyn cooed. "Watch and learn honey." She winked at me.

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms making a grimace.  I felt Latoya tap my arm again and lean her head down to see if I was crying.

"Omg. Are you okay? Did it hurt?" She asked worriedly.

I shook my head, "Just leave me alone. I don't wanna talk about it right now." I wiped a tear from my eye before it fell.

"Let's see what you can do." I heard the coach say as Kaitlyn walk backwards to the back wall.

She ran fast and did a round off into a three or four back-handsprings , a back flip, did another round off two more back handsprings and ended with a split, kinda what I wanted to do. A lot of people clapped and cheered for her making me feel more embarrassed.

She's such a show off and she think she's better than me. Showed off shooting a basketball yesterday and now this? What's next? I wish she can leave me alone.

"Wow you're amazing." The coach smiled brightly at her clapping.

Kaitlyn giggled, "I practice everyday." She bragged.

"Good. So do you want to be a flyer?" Coach asked her.

She looked at me and smiled, I rolled my eyes. "I want to be a flyer but I also want to be base. Can I hold someone up to tryout for base?" She politely asked the coach.

"Sure, pick one of the girls." The coach told her looking at all of us on the bleachers.

Kaitlyn looked at me and that evil smile she has is irritating the crap out of me.

"I'll choose Justice and that Sabrina." She pointed at the very end of the bleachers and at Justice.

Sabrina's here? I totally forgot she was trying out for cheer too!

"And I'll choose Ariel to be the flyer." She rolled her eyes at me.

I sat down not making a move out of my seat.

She wants to embarrass me again?
Not gonna happen.

Everyone glanced over at me as I sat not doing a thing.

"C'mon Ariel, being a flyer is fun. Don't be scared this time." I heard the coach say.

"Go Ariel." I heard a few students say.

"I don't want to." I said crossing my arms.

"Why not?" Coach asked.

I sighed loudly, "Because all she wants to do is embarrass me and I'm not having it." I pointed at Kaitlyn.

"She's nice Ariel just come down here and try out." Coach said.

"No, I'd rather have someone else hold me up." I mumbled.

Kaitlyn sighed, "Well I change my mind, I'm gonna be the flyer and the two is gonna hold me up." Kaitlyn told the coach.

Coach looked at her unsure and nodded,
"Okay, start when y'all are ready." She said.

Kaitlyn nodded and Sabrina and Justice kneeled down cupping their hands. She stood on the palm of their hands and they held her up in the air as the students cheered for her. She then held her leg up in the air and did a scorpion making the coach smile brightly at them. They finally let her down and she laughed and giggled.

Sabrina should've dropped that bitch.

"Wow that was really amazing Kaitlyn." The coach smiled and wrote something down on her clipboard

"Thank you." Kaitlyn blushed quickly walking towards the bleachers.

I sighed and rolled my eyes watching them act like complete idiots. Kaitlyn and Justice walked towards us giggling and high giving each other and Latoya and I watched.

"Now that's how you cheer, got it?" Kaitlyn smiled at me.

"Shut the fuck up. I don't need you showing me anything." I snapped.

"You just mad because you can't do it honey." Justice told me.

"Leave her alone, I'm tired of y'all." Latoya mumbled.

Kaitlyn and Justice sat down and giggled.

* * * *
The rest of the students got their turn and after everyone went, the coach called me up. She asked me to tumble again, since I messed up the first time. I tumbled and did it perfectly this time and people cheered for me, making me feel more better. Then, it was time to do what flyers do. I chose random people from the bleachers to hold me up. When it was time for them to hold me up in the air, they struggled to keep me up and almost dropped me. So then, the coach nicely said that it would be better if I was the base and of course Kaitlyn and Justice laughed at me. I felt totally embarrassed, they make me feel like a heavy hippo. I hate it.

Trey picked Sabrina and I up from school close to five o'clock and took us home. The whole ride home, I didn't talk to them at all about it. He kept asking and asking about what happened during the try outs but I would never answer neither did Sabrina. She would just chuckle about what happened. Latoya kept doing the same before I left the school and I wouldn't talk.

We walked inside the house and I slammed my backpack on the coach and sat down.

"Pumpkin talk to me." Trey said closing the door behind him and locking it.

Pumpkin is my nickname. I really don't know why my family call me that.

I slouched on the couch and crossed my arms hearing footsteps come from behind the couch.
"Whats wrong Ariel? You didn't make the tryouts?" I heard Dylan's voice making me startle a little.

Dylan is back?
Ugh.

I sat up and quickly looked back at him making a disgusted look at him.

"Poor lil sis didn't make the modeling tryouts. Aww. I tried to tell her that she wasn't gonna make it." Dylan said sarcastically then laughed.

"Shut up!" I shouted. "It wasn't the modeling it was the cheer!"

"Hey!" Trey called out and we both jumped. "Don't start. Dylan, you leave her alone!" He demanded. "I don't wanna hear it, Mama is at the doctor right now and I have to stay at home with y'all so if y'all would please don't argue with each other." He said calmly.

Him being the oldest, he's always in charge whenever mama is not around. So when he stays at home with us, Dylan always gotta start shit with me and we start arguing.

I sighed and got up, "Can I go over the Jackson's?" I asked Trey.

Trey shrugged, "Why?" He asked.

"Cause I don't wanna stay here until mama come back cause I know I'll be arguing with Dylan." I looked back at Dylan and rolled my eyes.

"Alright." He mumbled grabbing the remote off the coach. "Come back at eight o'clock." He said.

I nodded walking towards the door.

If Dylan was back at William and Chris' house, we wouldn't be having a problems all the time.
