"That's What Friends Are For.." (part one)

It was a bright and sunny morning, as you were on your way to school. The wind whizzed by you and blew the strands of loose hair behind your ear. The bus came to a rolling stop, and opened the doors for you to climb in. Just as if things couldn't get any worse, they did.

Marlon Jackson. The hilarious guy everyone 'liked', or scared of anyway, was sitting in your seat.

"Where are you off to, Silly Rabbit?" He asked. That was your given 'pickname' (a nickname people use to pick on you) because you needed braces. Your teeth in the front made an overbite, which caused for your mouth to be bucked: due to your braces.

At this moment, you hadn't even made it two feet into the bus, and everyone was hysterical. Everyone except another kid in the back.

You mustered up every ounce of courage to tell Marlon what you really felt, but it had to wait. The bus driver dissolved the matter, and Marlon retreated to the back of the bus, where his regular seat was. Ironically, beside the 'non-laughing' kid.

I bet he doesn't think it's 'laugh-'til-you-drop' funny, now. You taunted in your head.

You sat down in your stolen seat and looked out the window. How cruel life can be.

You enjoyed the rest of the school day. It was the same as usual: Marlon snickering side comments after you answered a question correctly. The silent boy, still watching.

Is he trying to see how many shots I can take of Marlon's sarcasm, before I crack? You thought of the boy. It was rather odd for a kid who wasn't a bully or snooty kid, to peer among the curious onlookers.

You walked out of your last class and ran down the hall: out of sight. "Excuse me..." You heard a slight whisper behind your shoulder blade.

You turned around in shock:

It was that shy kid.
