Something to check out...
Hey, guys, this is a chapter from my book Silver Sins, please check it out and if you liked it please read my book :)
"I can't wait to return home..." my best friend Jessica said.
"Me too... you have no idea how tired I am! And this bus makes me sick.. I feel like I'm gonna throw up any minute soon!" I've always hated buses. The way they sway your body and the noise their engines makes... AHHH! Hate it.
"I can make your sickness disappear in no time... just say the word baby!" I heard Daniel's voice and his friends laughing behind us. I turned my head to see him leaning on his two elbows against my seat.
"Go away Daniel!" I said.
"It's not nice to eavesdrop!" Jess remarked.
"You know I'm not nice." He winked at me. Oh Lord...
"Daniel, back to your seat now!" thank God Mr. Bacowsky saw him and helped us.
"I can't believe I was his girlfriend!" I whispered in Jess' ear and she nodded her head "I don't know what I saw in him in the first place... he's terrible!"
"Well that's what I told you when you started dating him but would you listen to your best friend? NOO!"
"I'm sorry... "
I begun dating him two months ago and broke up with him like a week ago. I don't know why I was attracted to him; no I was CRAZY about him! He was the most popular and handsome guy in school and the captain of the football team. Maybe I felt flattered when he asked me to be his girlfriend since he was the coolest boy in school but recently, I've begun seeing his true self – he was arrogant, a bully and a hooligan, self-centered, exactly like his friends from the football team. I thought they were pretty cool guys but when I started hanging out with them I came to the conclusion they were all rotten. However, ever since I broke up with Daniel, he's been bullying me and Jess, trying to get back with me. Great way to convince me ha? He was so far away from sensitive and gentle...
"Forget it... tell me what you're gonna do after you return home?" Jess changed the topic.
"Oh man... I'm gonna lay down on my bed and sleep for like 2 days straight. I wanna forget everything that happened."
"Me too, honey."
"And I guarantee you, I'm never again going camping with the class!" 7 days with my "friendly" class in the forest - what a blessing....
"Me too! Even if they kill me, I'm not going!"
After an hour or so we finally arrived at school from where we had to go to our homes alone. I and Jess hurried to get off the bus and leave so that we won't bump into Daniel and his gang because we've had enough of their smart ass pick up lines.
"I'm so glad this shit is over.." Jess said.
"Tell me about it!" I was enjoying the warm wind blowing through my hair and gently swaying the trees around us.
"Next time I gotta go somewhere with the class I'll be deadly ill!"
"Yeah and I'll mysteriously disappear!" we both laughed. We continued walking, passing the centre of the town.
It was a small town so we didn't really need a car to get to school. In the middle of the city, right on top of the city hall, there was a head of something a wolf. They say that 60 years ago our town was haunted by a wild beast that killed many people.
"Do you really believe in the legend about the beast, Jess?" I suddenly asked her looking up at its head. The air was filled with noises from the swaying trees.
"Pfuu... please! That's just some stupid tail people made up so that our small and stupid town can get the attention of tourists. Such things don't exist, YN. Please, don't tell me you believe them... "
"Are you crazy! I don't believe in superstitions or old tails."
"But we must confess that there are more tourists coming here every year after that werewolf crap.."
"Totally agree. They make money out of tourism but don't care about our peace!"
"Absolutely! Talking about peace, Melissa told me she was planning on throwing a party this weekend."
"Oh Lord..."
"What! I say we go! We need to have some fun!" she shook her booty, making a dancing motions.
"Yeah with Daniel and his gang?"
"We'll ignore them. C'mon YN it's gonna be fun and I wanna have fun! Don't make me go alone, girl!"
"I'll think about it... "
"Only think about it?"
"Yes."
"Ok whatever, I'll persuade you anyway, you know me!" she winked.
"Oh I know you! You don't stop until you get what you want."
"That's me!" we reached my house.
"Well, then... call me when you get some rest."
"I will. Bye love."
"Bye." You hugged each other and she continued for her house.
You walked in the living room.
"I'm hooome!" where the heck was everybody? I just returned from hell and my parents are nowhere to be found!? Greatness.
I went upstairs for my room. I wanted to take a shower first so that I would wash off all the bad memories from the lousy camp. However, as I approached my room, I saw the door was wide open and heard whimpers coming from inside. Someone was crying? In my own room?
I silently tip toed to my room and peaked in.
There was a man lying on my bed with his back against me, dressed in pajamas. He was hugging a pillow, wait MY pillow, crying, smirking and wiping away his tears with a tissue paper.
Who the hell was that? And why was he crying and blowing his nose in my bed? Gross! That was it!
"Who the hell are you?" I angrily asked. He slowly turned around to look at me.
His skin was gently kissed by the sun like the color of caramel. His hair was black and curly, tied up in a messy ponytail. His eyes were dark but red and filled with tears which meant he must have cried here in my room for quite some time. His perfect, small nose was red too, I guess from all the blowing. I waited for his answer but he won't say a thing. I put my hands on my waist and asked again
"I ASKED WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?" I wasn't patient at all today. Let's not forget I just returned from hell.
"YN!" I heard my mother's voice and turned around.
"My baby's back!" my dad said as they were approaching me.
"Mom, dad." they took me in their arms. "There's someone in our house!" I pointed at him.
"That's not someone, YN, that's Michael." my mom replied. Oh so they knew him.
"And why is he in my bed? You now I don't like people in my room, especially bed!"
"AHHHHHHHH nobody wants meeeeee!" he begun crying even harder. What the...?
"Now, YN, see what you've done? You upset him even more!" my mom said, walking over to him. She sat on the bed and took him in her arms.
"WHAT?" I simply asked for I had no fucking idea what was going on in here! My mother was hugging a man right in front of my father and he was fine with it??!!
"Don't Michael, it's gonna be alright! She didn't mean it! Shh..." she was even caressing his head.
"No one loves me..." he continued crying with the tissue paper over his eyes.
"That's not true, Mike!" my dad jumped in "You know very well, we're here to support you! Don't worry!"
"Would someone finally tell me what the hell is going on?" I ruined their warm moment by asking again.
"YN, watch your mouth, young lady! Michael, I need to talk to YN and explain her since you'll be staying here-"
"WHAT!??" I cut her off but she ignored me.
"You just rest here and if you need anything, call me."
"Thank you so much for everything, YMN!" the men on my bed said.
"No need! Come with me YN." we went downstairs in the kitchen and my dad remained with that Michael.
"I want you to be nice to Michael!"
"Who is Michael mother?" damn, would she finally answer?
"He's your cousin."
"What?? Cousin?!"
"Yes. Remember when I told you your dad has a brother to whom he hasn't spoken for like 20 years?"
"Yes..."
"Well, Michael is his son."
"Aha... so why is he here?"
"That's a long story but I'll try to make it short... he was married to this girl Lisa and they got divorced like a week ago because he caught her cheating."
"So?"
"His parents are Jehovah's witnesses and they didn't want him to divorce but he couldn't stay with here any longer so in the end, he didn't listen to his parents and divorced Lisa."
"Sooo?"
"Well, his father kicked him out of the house."
"Kicked his own son out because the bitch cheated?!"
"Yes. He's a bad person, honey, that's why your father stayed away from him for all those years. Anyhow, poor Michael had nowhere to go to so he came here from LA."
"He doesn't have his own house?"
"He did but the judge gave it to Lisa after the divorce."
"Why, she was the one who cheated!"
"Yes but she is a smart fox and presented things differently in front of the court and poor Michael didn't have evidences of her cheating.."
"Wow..." what a crazy story!
"Yes... then he called your father. Poor man was devastated and alone on the street. He had no money at all 'cause he had to pay all the fees for the divorce and his father won't take him and his wife stole his house.. Me and your father immediately decided to invite him here."
"Does that Joseph know?"
"No, he doesn't. But even if he knew, we don't care! Michael is a completely different person, nothing like Joseph."
"And I haven't met him before because.. "
"Yes because of your father and uncle. Last time we saw Michael, he was 11 years old... you weren't even born."
"So like.. I have a cousin I've never met before?"
"Yes."
"And he's gonna live here with us?"
"Yes. I told him he could stay here as long as he wants."
"And didn't ask me?"
"Honey..."
"And why was he in my room?"
"We decided to let him stay there while you were gone."
"WHAT!? You let a stranger in my room without even asking me first?"
"He's not a stranger, he's family!"
"Well, he's a stranger to me! I don't feel him as a cousin and I don't like that he's crying and blowing his nose on my bed, in my sheets!"
"Why don't you give him a chance? He's very sweet and nice!"
"And why was he crying anyway?"
"Because he loved Lisa very much and she betrayed him in the most terrible way! He's hurt... the only thing he's been doing is crying... we tried to calm him down many times, poor thing..."
"Old man crying..."
"Now YN, please!"
"Whatever mom, just get him out of my room! I'm tired, I just returned from hell and I want to get some rest without any cousins in my own personal space."
He moved out of my room and since we didn't have a guest room, my mother transformed our sofa in the living room into his new bed. He was going to cry and blow his nose on the sofa but at least I'll have my bedroom back! I couldn't get some sleep at all. I was too busy cleaning my room and boiling my sheets. This man had thrown used tissues everywhere on the floor and my bathroom was a mess too...
After I finished cleaning, it was time for dinner so I got downstairs.
I found Michael sitting on the sofa, silently whining and whipping away his tears.
I walked in the kitchen and sat on the table to wait for the food.
"Michael, dinner's served!" she invited him. "YN, remember what I told you!" she whispered in my ear "Be nice to him! He's having a hard time."
"Okay mom..." I rolled my eyes.
He slowly walked in and sat on the table right in front of me, looking down, then my dad came and sat next my mother.
"C'mon everybody let's eat! I'm starving!" my dead said. Michael took the fork and begin digging in the food not even tasting it.
"Michael, honey, remember what I told you.. you gotta eat!" my mom said.
"I'm just not hungry..." he looked like a hot mess.
Damn.. is this what happens to a man when he gets divorced?
"Michael," my dad jumped in "I know this is a hard time in your life but you can't just give up! You gotta toughen up and move on... you can't let Lisa ruin your life!" Michael sighed.
"I know but I just can't get over her and all the things she's done after just year and a half of marriage... I sometimes think... am I this horrible? Wasn't I good enough for her?"
"Michael, honey," my mother put her hand on his "It wasn't your fault! The problem is in her! Stop blaming yourself! My husband is right, you should move on! Lisa's not the only woman in this world, trust me there are many more out there and I know that one day you'll find the right one!"
"But I'm getting older ..."
"What! That's not true at all! Listen, why don't we change the topic..." my dad suggested.
"Yes! Now, Michael, I want you to try me meals, I cooked them especially for you, c'mon and tell me if you liked them."
"Okay, aunt, thank you so much for everything really! I know I'm depressing you all and YN," he turned to me.
"What?"
"I'm sorry I was in your room and-" my mom cut him off.
"Don't be sorry at all, Mike! We're family, we're here to help and YN's glad to do it! Right honey?"
"Mhm."
"Yes," my dad jumped in "Now you're a part of our family. I didn't start out very well with my brother but I can do it with his son."
"Thank you, uncle..."
"Now, eat." he finally begun eating, well, wasn't very enthusiastic about it but did eat something.
"Mom, dad" I begun "Melissa's throwing a party this weekend and I was wondering if you'll let me go?"
"Melissa? Now, you know I don't like her! Everybody knows about her crazy parties in town!" my das said.
"YFN, I think we should let her go.." thank you mom! "with Michael."
"WHAT?" I said.
"WHAT?" Michael said.
"Honey, this is actually a great idea!" my dad changes his opinion all of a sudden.
"I know. Michael, this is exactly what you need!"
"I'm not sure...I-"
"No, go out, have some fun! Meet new people! You need this fun besides you gotta get your mind off things!" my mom said.
"Yes, Mike! My wife is right besides I don't wanna let my daughter go alone!"
"I won't be alone, I'll be with Jess!"
"Jess is more crazy than you, young lady! So what you say Michael?" my mom asked him.
please say no, please say no, please say no
"Well, if you say so then I guess I'll go..."
"That's what I'm talking about!" my dad said.
Oh man....
After dinner I helped my mom do the dishes. Michael was still whining on the sofa. I just didn't get it how a big man could cry like this all the time!? He must have really loved her... Anyhow, I decided to go to bed because I was so tired.
Tomorrow would be a better day. I could only hope.
Winter of 1958
It was a quiet night lit by the vivid silver light from the round moon above our heads. Beneath our feet was the deep snow that sparkled under the beams of the silver sun. The air was cold and smelled of fresh forest, snow and fear. Our feet made sounds as they sunk into the deep snow, accompanied with owls and the loud beating of our hearts.
We were getting deeper into the thick forest to seek for the beast and its lair. Tonight all of us, young and old men, have gathered our courage to finally kill the bloody beast that has been like a plague... like a curse, hanging over our poor village for almost 40 years now.
The dog of the Devil himself has been praying on our families, our fathers, mothers, sisters and children! In the morning we would find their corpses in the most unholy condition a human mind is capable of imagining – parts missing, probably devoured by the hungry beast, bones sticking, organs and intestines everywhere, blood trails, pieces of the victims here and there... But what was even worse than this, was the face of the siblings of the victim when they found their beloveds in this condition. My ears have heard the most terrifying screams a human being was capable of producing. At those times, I thanked God that I was an orphan and had no siblings.
"Watch your every step, men! Be very careful!" Mr. Jones, the leader of our "pack" warned us. "I've dealt with the beast for 30 years and know it is smart... Keep your hands on the weapons and watch with four eyes wide open!" we all had great respect for him since he had managed, and was to only one, to stay alive for 30 years around the beast. He was a man of honor and well known for he's bravery. If he wasn't the leader, I'm sure that none of those men would have dared to leave their well locked houses to go into the forest in the middle of the night.
Our pack consisted of around 50 men and we were moving forward in smaller rows. I was somewhere in the front rows behind Mr. Jones. We were walking in silence with sharpened ears so as to hear if the beast approached us.
To be quite honest, I have never laid my eyes upon the beast yet and don't know what it looked like. The image I have of it is from what I have heard from the villagers which is that it has the shape of a big wolf. I wasn't quite sure of that since the people who saw the beast didn't live after the "encounter" to tell us what exactly it looked like – I was a modern man and to me those descriptions were all made up by the people for they needed to have a certain image of the beast to satisfy their curiosity and lessen the fear – if such thing was possible. However, I have seen the victims of the beast every time after its feast and as I have said before, the view was not pretty. My point was that a single wolf only could have most definitely not been able to produce such a tremendous damage to the corpses! To me, the beast was something more than just a wolf... wolves were made by God but this unholy creature certainly wasn't.
"Jones!" a voice from one of the men behind us called.
"Yes?" he pushed my arm with his ankle.
"It wasn't me, Mr. Jones."
"Then who was it?" he impatiently asked. I shrugged my shoulders not knowing the answer. "Oh Lord, this is no time for such things! Now who wa-" he spun around and froze with mouth wide open and his lantern dropped on the snow. I turned around too to see what made him behave like that and realized behind us were only a few men left.
"Stop everyone!" he shouted and the men in front of us stopped and turned around towards their leader.
"Where is everybody?" "What's going on?" they begun asking and I could sense the fear in their voices.
I was scared too... we were around 50 men and now only 10! We begun looking around but the men were nowhere to be found. Did fear cause them to run away and abandon us?
"Quite you fools!" Jones yelled. "The beast is near us. It's even smarter than I thought... Have your weapons ready!" what did Jones mean with his words? Did the... beast...
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" Mr. Denver screamed as out of the nowhere a pair of long, sharp nails stuck all the way through his stomach form the back. All he managed to do was scream and within a seconds, he was dragged by the stomach into the darkness of the forest.
"The beast is here!" everyone screamed in panic. We took out our weapons and begun looking for the beast that was nowhere to be seen. It begun taking all of the men down, one by one, when we less expected and right in front of our eyes.
The creature was so incredibly fast at killing that we didn't even manage to see its face! Some of the men didn't even had time to scream! When only 2-3 men had remained, I gladly one of them, it was obvious that the beast was way too strong for us and even outnumbering won't help, so we begun running in whatever direction we saw.
I was trying to breathe as my heart pounded in my chest. My legs were running as fast as they could but it wasn't fast enough... All the men were dead. The beast must have killed them one by one from the back, so quietly and fast. Our mission was doomed.
I heard the terrified voices of what was brave men echo in the forest before they embraced death. This meant the beast must have caught them. May the Lord have mercy upon their souls.
May the Lord have mercy upon my soul for I was most certainly the next.
Then out of the nothing Mr. Jones appeared running in my direction right in front of me.
"THE OTHER WAY BOY! RUN THE OTHER WAY!" I quickly changed my direction and Mr. Jones soon caught up with me. "IT'S RIGHT BEHIND US! FASTER BOY!" I gave my all and picked up speed but it was hard to run in the snow. It was only me and Mr. Jones now. The only survivors from 50 men! The beast murdered 50 men in one breath and no one managed to stop him.
"AHHH!" Mr. Jones fell on the ground and I saw his body being dragged by the feet backwards. His hands were desperately trying to grab on to something on the ground but without any success. The beast was pulling him fast.
"MR. JONES!" I screamed in horror and tried to save him but he
"RUN FOR YOUR LIFE BOY!" and it was already too late. He had disappeared in the darkness like the others and the last thing I saw from him, was his eyes, filled with horror.
I don't know how I managed not to faint from fear but I kept running and only God knew I gave my all to pick up speed until I heard Mr. Jones's voice from the distance.
"GO TO HELL BEAST!"
He was alive! Mr. Jones was alive fighting with the beast! Without any hesitation I turned around and begun running to where his voice came from. I knew that he would catch it and I was going to help him kill it even if I had to pay with my life. In maybe less then a minute I found Mr. Jones up on his feet with his back facing me. I felt a huge smile form on my face for he has survived! Just before I opened my mouth to let him know I was there and express my sincere congratulates, I saw his body turn around but not on its own.
The beast had its right claw around Jones' neck, holding his corpse up in the air. His claw was with the size of maybe two hands and the nails were the same I saw stick through Denver's body earlier – long, sharp and covered in blood. It was standing on two legs and was around 7ft tall, covered in dark brown fur. I was right it wasn't a dog but... a werewolf. It placed Jones' body on the ground and stood on four legs. It had big sharp ears and a long jaw, covered up and down in a pair of strong, sharp fangs. There was only one way to get out of those jaws once they got you – torn to pieces. My theory got confirmed when it begun eating Jones' flesh. It placed its front claw over his stomach to hold him down in place and dug its fangs in his chest to open it. Its strong jaws crashed everything, including the bones. Then all of a sudden, it stopped eating, lifted its head up in the ear and begun sniffling. Suddenly, it turned its head in my direction, looking straight into my eyes. Its eyes had the color of the moon.. the eyes of a killer, filled with evil.
It let Jason' body, raised up and slowly walked over to me on two legs. I could hear it growl.
I froze in fear unable to move or utter a single sound. I was only looking into its silver eyes as it stood in front of me. I was going to die tonight. It was playing with me before killing me just like a cat would do with a mouse. I was sure it could smell my fear and enjoyed it.
Silver moon, silver eyes.
Then all of a sudden, something came to my mind... I had a big cross made out of pure silver hanging on my neck. The beast wrapped its claw around my neck and begun squeezing tightly while looking straight into my eyes. With my right hand I took a hold of the cross and before the creature knew it, I stuck it right in his chest like a knife. Its claw let me go and the werewolf howled in pain, twitching and jerking around until it collapsed on the ground.
So it worked! My guess was correct! The monster hated silver. It was a child of the silver moon but it was silver that could kill it!
It laid in the snow on the ground not moving nor breathing with jaw wide open. It looked dead.
All I wanted at this moment was to leave this cursed forest and run back to the village.
On the way there I felt a relief I've never felt before.
The beast was dead.
