Chapter 74: The Beginning of the End.

Tom's p.o.v.
"GET DOWN!"
More explosions, more screaming. I throw my shield up and grab Martha by waist, just in time for the ground which she'd just been standing on to ripple open and reveal a bottomless pit. I don't stay still long before were both running, to where I don't even know. Somewhere where we won't get hit by huge balls of rock. Martha screams when one strikes just beside us, making the ground ultimately crumble and fall into oblivion.
And to think I woke up this morning with the impression that this was going to be a good day.
I can feel the rocks hitting the top of my shield like bullets, so I don't let it fall just yet. If I don't find a clearing to fly soon, we aren't gonna be standing much longer. Though it seems like everywhere I look, there are rocks flying down at the speed of light and drops of lava raining down like drops of water during a storm. What the hell is happening.
"There!" Martha shouts, pointing at a tiny spot in the sky where there aren't any falling rocks. Another loud crash behind us causes our feet to run even faster towards the spot, and when we finally reached it I flew up with her still attached to my hip. I let out a sigh of exhaustion when I let my shield finally fall. Martha let out a strangled sob when she looked down, which made me look down too.
The camp was completely destroyed. Giant gaping holes and craters were the only things that I could see, besides splintered wood and broken homes. Gods only know what happened to the people inside them. The tree I used to call my home was gone. In the distance I could see the mountain where the fortress of fury previously rested on was obliterated by a meteor the size of a planet. The town might as well have been called dust. There was nothing left.
"What are we going to do?" Martha sobbed. "Everything was destroyed, our weapons, the food, those poor people-"
"We have to go revive Dianite now," I said gravely. "There's no way around it. If we stay here any longer, we're going to die."
"But Syn, we don't have the supplies-"
"It doesn't matter. We'll die either way, at least if we go out that way we tried to save the world."
She nodded gravely and sniffled. "Okay, okay w-we need to find the others so we can go together. It-it might stop soon so that we might be able to find them. And if it doesn't...I will try to form a few spells so we can travel through this."
I nodded, still watching as the meteor storm destroyed everything below us and the lava melted away the rest.
Where is my family?

Mot's p.o.v.
Dia please tell me her parents are still alive.
I waited. No answer. I'm going to kick his godly ass if he doesn't answer me soon, the world is literally ending and I'm stuck with corpse breath and Mr. Butt's daughter when I haven't got a single clue if they're still alive or not. I grumbled under my breath and tried to pray again, but somebody poked me on the shoulder and intruded my thoughts. It was that damn penguin boy.
"Bro, if you're staying here at least tell us your name. That girl is drinking up all of our beer, that shits hard to get man."
I smacked his hand away from my shoulder and growled at him. It's corpse breaths idiot friends, I know it. Nade and...what's the other two? Tony and John? I don't know. All I know is that they're annoying as hell and that I'm stuck in their underground house until this weather stops. Wait. Is he talking about...?
I spun around and gaped at him. "You let her into your beer? Are you an idiot?!"
He put his hands up in defense. "Look, I wasn't gonna tell the kid she couldn't have any. It's not like it's gonna kill her or something. Right?" He asked, scratching his head. I growled and shoved him aside, running to their shack of a kitchen and peering inside. Sure enough, she was sat on the floor chugging down a bottle exactly like a certain zombie asshole that I know. I ran in and smacked it out of her hands, causing it to fly to the wall and shatter everywhere. I nearly shit myself when a shard landed directly into the pale skin of her shoulder and blood began oozing out of the wound. Oh shit.
She didn't seem the slightest bit fazed by it though, she just looked...irritated. "It's apple juice you big dummy," she spat venomously. And then she, without even blinking, pulled the shard out of her bleeding skin and tossed it aside. The skin attached itself back together and the blood dissipated. Oh thank god their kid isn't the least bit normal.
"Listen kid, I know you hate my guts and my rules but just...please just sit still, okay? I'm trying to-"
"Dianite is busy. He isn't gonna listen to your prayers. And I don't hate you Mr. Mot, I just don't like you."
I rolled my eyes and plopped down in the floor beside her. I might as well take a seat, there's nothing I can do right now other than wait and make sure she doesn't do anything stupid. "Yeah. I know that. You're physic or something, right? Are your fathers okay? Can you see that?" And I might as well talk to her like she's an adult. She acts like one, despite she's not even one year old yet. Do her parents know she's this smart? I don't think they do.
She copied my facial expression perfectly and rolled her multicolored eyes right back at me. "Purple lady says they're fine. Stop worryin'."
"Purple lady? Ianite talks to you?"
"Yah." She popped off another cap from a beer and began gulping it down again, not even caring when some of it trickled down her face and into her black curls. She's got corpse breath in her, that's for sure. You'd think after spending so much time with Martha she'd act like a stuck up princess, but no, she acts just like that flesh eater.
"Why? Why does she talk to you, why not Jordan or Martha or anyone else who's a fuc-...a fricking adult?" Pg-13 Mot, just like with Alyssa. God I miss my little bat...
She whipped her hair back and burped a little before saying her next sentence. "Cuz adults aren't good at keepin' secrets. Oh n' purple lady says lil' bat misses you too."
Okay now this is just getting creepy. "Can you tell Ianite to stop stalking me?" I asked, annoyed. I picked up one of the beer bottles and popped it open, before taking a big swig from it. It was apple juice. Why do they have apple juice in beer bottles?
She giggled at that one. "She's just tryin' to help Mr. Mot."
"Is she now?" I questioned.
"Yup." Her eyes skimmed down at the bottle in my hands, before she looked back at me and smiled. "If y'want it, the real stuffs in the back." She pointed at the fridge and began drinking down the rest of the bottle. The hell?
"How old are you? You're acting like my daughter right now, and she's-"
"Sixteen?" She finished for me, smirking. "Ianite says I'm twelve today. That's two times six." She held up six of her fingers and then held up a two. I wonder who taught her math. Couldn't have been Matt. It was either that Ianite or Mr. Butts.
"Well that's just great. Do your parents know you're this smart?"
She shook her head, frowning. "Poppy and daddy get sad when they see me grow...I pretend sometimes so they won't be."
So that's one thing she's inherited from Mr Butts, the annoying consideration of other peoples feelings all the time.
"Oh. Well that's...considerate of you. But enough sentimental shi-...crap, I mean. Whats the deal with these idiots? Who are they and why do they live underground?"
She stood up and threw away her bottle into the trash, before climbing onto the counter to dig into the cabinets. "Daddies friends. They like Dianite too, and they live here cuz they think everyone hates em'. They used to be real mean to daddy and poppy. Mr Nade worked for the bad man for awhile." She found a pack of cereal and tugged it out, digging her hand into the bag and munching a whole handful of it. What a kid.
"Bad man as in the guy who's doing all that out there?" I pointed up to the ceiling. She frowned again.
"He didn't do that. He's mean though. Doesn't want Mr Dianite to be here again."
"Wait...what do you mean he didn't do that? Who is doing all that out there?"
She shook her head, grabbing another handful of cereal and stuffing it into her pie hole. "Caunt shay," she said through piles of cereal. The more I look at her, the more I'm freaked out. She looks exactly like them, a perfectly split up version of them. She's got Sparklez hair, left eye, lips, nose, and eyebrows. And then she's got flesh eaters dimples, right eye, chin, ears, and cheeks. And while most of her attitude consists of corpse breaths, her thoughts and views are neutral and kind. It weirded me out to think that if old Spark and I had a kid, it would probably look the same way. I look almost exactly like flesh eater, but he's part flesh eating zombie and I'm part green penis terrorist from hell.
Eventually the kid started giving me a funny look when I kept on staring at her, so I diverted my attention back to the bottle of juice and tried to keep my thoughts away from along the lines of what would a child by Dia and me look like?
"Can't say huh? Fine. Can you tell me if were going to kill this guy, Botan?"
Another frown. I think I know now that it means I've gotten something wrong. "Can't kill 'im."
"And why the hell not?"
"I'm not a fortune cookie Mr. Mot." She made a mean face at me. I groaned and threw myself on the floor. She's right. She's a kid, not an oracle.
"Sorry, my bad. I guess I'm just going through Dia withdrawal." She probably doesn't even know what that means. I've been going through Dia withdrawal for years, and that means I'm horny as hell and I'm constantly cranky because of it. Why can't he be here now? Why do I have to go out and revive his ass?
I heard the kid giggle. What did that purple bitch say to her now?
"He feels the same way about you, Mr. Mot."
"IANITE GET AWAY FROM MY THOUGHTS." I plugged up my ears as if that wiped somehow prevent her from getting inside my head, but it won't. I know it won't, I've known Dia long enough to know that it won't.
"Storms about to stop," she said suddenly, changing the subject. "In two hours we can go outside and play."
"...where is your boyfriend? He's usually right next to you..." I figured that wizard would be the first to snatch up the kid after shit kit the fan, but when I went into the kids shelter at camp she was completely alone. Of course I took her with me, I wasn't just gonna leave her there, no matter how much I sort of despised her. But I kinda tolerate her more now that I've gotten to know her. She surprisingly acts a bit like Alyssa.
"Boyfriend? Ew." She stuck her tongue out at the idea. Of course she's opposed to boys. Alyssa hates the term boyfriend, and I use it every chance I get to annoy the hell out of her. Well...I used to do it a lot when I was still with her.
"I meant that one wizard guy...what's his name, Matt? Yeah. Where is he?"
She frowned again, and I wondered what I'd gotten wrong this time. "Matty had to go. He said he loved me, and flew off to space with Tommy and Phil."
"What?" I sat up and stared at her wide eyed. "The wizards left?! When?!"
She sighed and stuck her bottom lip out, and it was trembling I realized. Crap, she better not cry. "Last night. They had to, Matty didn't want to go but he said he had to. He would've stayed with me if he didn't."
The wizards are gone. The wizards are gone.
"Oh my gods, we're screwed..." I flopped back down on the floor and shut my eyes. Why did I come back to this place? I should've stayed with my little bat. If I die here and Alyssa never sees me again...I don't even want to think about it. Who would take care of her? Spark? He's over eighty years old, he can't raise another kid. Jeriah? He's an ass, I don't want him raising my baby. What's going to happen to my bat?
"You worry too much Mr. Mot..." A box of cereal was brought into my line of sight. She's offering me cereal when I'm having a mental breakdown. This kid.
"Thanks Rosie. I'm sorry about Matt. Did he say he was ever coming back?" I took the box from her and grabbed a handful before giving it back. She sighed, and it was one of the saddest sounds I'd ever heard. She's too young to be this torn up over a guy.
"He said one day, but not for awhile. He gave me a gift though. You wanna see it?"
I shrugged. "Sure. Why not."
And then a crystal sparkling rose came into my view, held by a small hand. "He said it never dies, just like his love for me. It's pretty."
I laughed, despite her sad and serious tone. "Do your fathers know what Matt says to you?"
"Nope. It's a secret. If you tell somebody, I'll tell poppy and daddy you gave me a boo boo."
Annnd there's the black mail. She's now exactly like Tom Syndicate, but with more brains and balls.
"Secrets safe with me kid. Your parents are terrifying." I held up my pinkie finger for good measure. She giggled and touched hers to mine. I smiled.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when a loud voice interrupted the moment. "I heard that a certain ROSIE IS IN MY HOUSE!"
"Noodleshoots!" Rosie squealed, jumping over my body and running into the arms of a man that I'd never seen before in my entire life. Should I be worried?
The guy seemed okay though, even though he was dressed in all black with a huge axe tethered to his side. He picked her up and made airplane noises as he spun her around the kitchen, while she screamed and giggled like crazy. And then he caught sight of me and took a huge step back, bringing Rosie down to settle her on his hip and keep her very close. "Um...Rosie who's the creeper guy?"
I growled and pulled my scarf further up my mouth. I already don't like him.
"It's Mr Mot, he's friends with daddy. Be nice noodle shoots! He saved me from the meteors outside!" She made explosion noises and bopped his head with her fist, and he laughed.
"Well then he's a friend of mine! How much have you grown since I last saw you, miss bean stalk? You're almost up to my belly button now!" He sat her down and put a hand on her head to 'measure' her height.
"I'm twelve today!"
He didn't seem the least bit weirded out by her answer, he just kept smiling. He must know about her rapid aging already, somebody must've told him. "Well damn I'm getting old then. Wait, is it your birthday? We gotta sing you a song then!"
Ugh.
"Happy birthday to you! You belong in a zoo! You smell like a monkeyyy...and you look like one too!"
Rosie giggled and made a mean face. "Hey! That's mean noodle shoots!"
"My bad. I'm a meanie. Wait a second..." His eyes drifted to the empty beer bottles all over he floor. "Have you been drinking up all my apple juice?"
"Yup. It was good." She patted her stomach and smirked up at him.
"Well I guess that'll be your birthday present then, because I-"
"Who are you?" I interrupted without really giving a damn. He made a face at me, one that said interrupt me again and I'll smash your face in. It didn't scare me though. I've gotten plenty of death stares in the past, I'm used to them.
"Nade. Why do you ask?" The friendliness was gone out of his voice. I was just about to reply something equally as sassy when Rosie gave me a warning look, the same one Jordan gives me when I'm three seconds away from being punched in the head by Tom Syndicate. Something weird happened, something flashed in front of me like...a memory or a vision or something.
Blood, bodies, a battle field of chaos. And a familiar face standing in the middle of it all, humming a tune and twirling his...his completely drenched in blood axe. A crimson stained smile in my direction along with two piercing black eyes staring into my soul, and I felt terror shoot through my veins like ice. Nade isn't somebody to be messed with.
I blinked a few times and it faded. Rosie turned away. I decided not to test the guy.
"Just wondering. Safety reason and stuff."
"Sure," he replied slowly, with as much distaste as possible. Asshole. "Anyway, whatcha doin here bean stalk? Where's your dads?"
"Daddy's with Miss Martha and Poppy's with Mr Gaines. Did you see outside? It's bad."
"Yeah I saw. Glad you're okay, I was a little worried about you guys. Especially you. What happened to your little visits? I've been missing you."
She visits this place? When? She's always with somebody, if not Matt or Martha, then her parents or Sonja. When has she got time to visit this place?
"I dunno...I can't sneak out anymore, Matty's gone. He always did the spell so I could sneak out to play with you."
She sneaks out. She sneaks out while those idiots are sleeping and she visits a grown ass man to play with him. That sounds shady as hell.
"Sad to hear that Rose. I miss our hangouts. Look, I gotta go help the Modeys pack up some stuff. I'll be right back so stay planted in the ground, alright?" He grinned and ruffled her curls, and she giggled. He left the kitchen, but not before sending me a threatening glare as he walked past, and then humming under his breath while he twirled the axe in his hand. It was the first time in awhile I'd felt so much terror just from looking at something.
I turned my attention back to Rosie, who was fishing another beer of apple juice from the fridge. "You sneak out in the middle of the night to see a grown ass man whom you call noodleshoots, and whom also owns a battle axe and has killed armies of people?"
"Daddy and poppy were always too busy to take me and see him and the Modeys. Matty took me instead, and he put a little spell on poppy and daddy so they wouldn't catch me. And Noodleshoots only hurts peoples who hurt his friends, he's not mean."
"Well you're a conniving kid and I have new found respect for you. I've never even met these guys before and you know them like the back of your hand. What other things do your dad's not know about?"
"They don't know that I know Noodleshoots or the Modeys. They haven't seen 'em since I was a baby."
"...how did you meet them then? How did you even know about them?"
"Philly met them, then Matty, and when Matty told em' about me bein' born, they wanted to see me."
"Do they know you're..." I cleared my throat for a moment. "Not...really normal?"
She nodded, unfazed by the way I described her. "Matty told them about me."
"Ah. Well...since your boyfriends gone-"
"He's not my boyfriend Mr Mot!"
"Alright! What is he then?"
"He's my future boyfriend."
I groaned loudly and slumped back against the kitchen floor. "What's the difference?"
"Matty's not a pedo bear. He has to wait until I'm forty, like daddy told him."
I snickered. I told Alyssa the same thing. No dating until you're forty, and even then if he lays a hand on you I'm killing him. She just rolled her eyes at me and continued making her flower crown. Sigh.
"Okay fine. Since your future husband-"
"Boyfriend!"
"Damn it!" I sat up and punched both fists into the wooden floor to keep myself from throwing something. "Since your future boyfriend isn't here anymore, if you ever need help sneaking away from those two sap machines you have as parents, just give me a call! I'm probably not as good at it as that wizard, but I can most definitely get you home by the time your dads wake up. Okay?"
The little twerp smiled, both of her daddy's dimples showing on both sides. "Okay. Thank you Mr Mot."
"Just...call me uncle Mot, okay? Formalities are shit. I've never cared for them."
"Okay uncle Mot. I don't not like you anymore." She sat her bottle down on the floor before bouncing over to me and throwing her arms around my neck. She was nice to hug. She radiated Jordan's happiness and warmth, and at the same time Toms aura of protectiveness. Why does that flesh eater always smell like roses? Even his daughter smells like roses, with a tinge of lavender that which Jordan's usually smells like. She's perfectly split up. It's so weird.
I chuckled and threw an arm around her tiny waist, enjoying the softness of her sweater dress. It made me think of the last hug Alyssa and I shared before I left. "Thanks kid..."
"Call me Rosie, uncle mot."
I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Yeah. Thanks Rosie."
She's alright I guess.
