Chapter 67: The Verdict

Jordan's p.o.v.

"I call Jordan Sparklez to the stand." Martha's voice was once again, placid and unemotional. I don't understand how she composed her self so quickly, but she did. Wag hadn't said a word to me since he'd gotten back. Steve had shown up a little later than they did, and he was still angry at Wag. Thank the gods he didn't know about them.

I stood from the bench and went up to the stand. I sat and waited for Martha to ask me tough questions and move her way into my brain to manipulate me.

"Mr. Sparklez, I understand you are Mr. Syndicates fiancé?"

"Yeah." I kept my answers as simple as possible."

"And that you witnessed this incident involving him take place?"

"Correct."

"Do you believe that my client deserves the death sentence?"

"Ye-...wait. What?"
"Do you believe that guard Tom deserves the death sentence for what he has done?"

"No. He deserves to be punished but...I don't think he deserves to die." I remembered Toms words, he didn't want guard Tom to die.

"Very well, that is all your honor." Martha walked back to her seat, guard Tom still looking down the entire time.

What? Was that all she was gonna ask me?

"You may leave the stand, Mr. Sparklez." Ianite banged her gavel as I sat back down in the bench.

"I have reached a verdict. May the prosecution and the defense please stand for the hearing." We all stood and waited patiently and anxiously for the verdict.
"Guard Tom, you are hereby pronounced guilty for the attempted murder of Tom Syndicate. Although your crimes are punishable by death, Mr. Sparklez has preferred you not receive the death sentence. Instead, your victim Tom Syndicate will decide your punishment. You will not be permitted to be alone without the accompaniment of a Dianitee, excluding Tom Syndicate. You will not live with Mr. Sparklez any longer, nor will you step within five miles of him or his partner. If you so much as step a foot out of line and break these guidelines, you will receive instantaneous death. I will strike you where you stand if you harm another. You have misplaced the trust of every being in this courtroom, and I hope you feel regret and immense guilt for what you have done. This case is dismissed." She banged her gavel, and I heard cheers and whoops from the Dianitees group. Guard Tom nodded and walked to the modesteps, who already had pulled out handcuffs. Why did I feel bad for him?

Maybe because his fate was in Toms hands, and that the Dianitees weren't necessarily nice to him, and that his life was for the most part over.
I wasn't going to worry about it now. I needed to see Tom.

~

I climbed down the latter and dropped down onto the floor. I hoped he was okay. I hoped Nade had talked to him and helped him.
I walked to the door that he was behind before, and knocked lightly.

Nade opened it and smiled. "Hey man, how'd the trial go?"

"It was interesting...where's Tom?"

He stepped back and let me see into the room. Plopped up on the bed with a mouth full of chocolate, was a happy looking Tom. He waved at me, chocolate was covering his fingers.

"You know, you're an idiot." I shook my head at the sight of him, and he gave a muffled laughed.

He swallowed his chocolate, and smiled at me with a chocolate smeared grin.
"You're just jelly of my chocolate bro. Nades a homie, hooking me up phatty style with the choco!" He held up a hand to Nade, who returned a high five.

"You know you should never give him sugar, or else he starts talking like a gangster..."

Nade laughed. "Aw he's fine. It was just a few chocolate bars, nothing to worry about. Besides, sugar always cheers him up." It was true. Tom loved sugary things.

"I feel mad cray Sparkley tits! Me bones are made of sugar!" His British accent was thick, barely understandable. He did that when he was on sugar highs or if he was drunk.

"You can understand me right? Because I gotta tell you about the trial." I sat on the bed next to him.

"Go ahead!" He announced as he opened up another chocolate bar.

"You get to decide what happens to guard Tom. Ianite told us. So...what do you want them to do with him?"

He looked up from his chocolate and sighed. "He put me through hell, but I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. I didn't want him to die. Does he have to go to jail?"

"No, it's up to you. What do you want to do?" I looked to him, his face contemplating the decision.

"I'd kill the dude if I were you man..." Nade grinned from his chair.

"Nah...I should go talk to him." Tom began to get up but I stopped him immediately.

"You are not talking to that insane idiot. He tried to freaking kill you, Tom."

"Sparklez come on, I'm fine. It'll just be a few minutes." He looked at me with puppy dog eyes, but I wasn't falling for it.

"No, I don't want you anywhere near him. He almost killed you, I'm not gonna ignore that." I crossed my arms like a strict parent. I wasn't letting him go there.

"Sparklez-"

"No."

"Ple-"

"No Tom."

"I've been in agonizing and unbearable pain all day, along with vomiting and being completely handicapped, the least you could do is take me to Nades. Or you could just leave me here and let me shrivel up like a raisin and die. "

"I think you're overreacting, you're not gonna die because I refuse to take you to Nades. I'm sorry that you feel bad, but I'm not jeopardizing your safety just because you want to chit chat with your killer." I was sounding harsh, but I was only trying to protect him.

He was getting irritated, I could tell. Why did he want to talk to guard Tom so badly?

"Forget it, I'm going to bed. Get out." He laid down on his bed and pulled the covers over himself, hiding his face.

"Tom...I'm just trying to protect you."

"I don't want you to protect me," he shot back grumpily.

"Then what do you want me to do? Take you to Nades and let guard Tom finish you off while you're still weak?"

"He's not going to do that. I just need to talk to him, just for a minute or two."
I sighed and looked to Nade, who was watching us and grinning at our argument.

"Is it safe? He's gonna be restrained, right?"

"Yeah dude, it's safe. Tony and Josh aren't gonna let anything happen to him, they'll beat that dude to a pulp if he tries anything."

"Fine...I'll take you to Nades." I heard Tom smirk and get up from the bed.

"Thanks, mom." He teased as he stretched from his spot, wincing in the middle of it.
~
Wheeling Tom to Nades wasn't a problem at all. It was getting him down the latter that was the most challenging issue.
I couldn't fly him down, since my wingspan was too large to fit in the small hole that led to the underground house. Nade suggested the idea he throw him down the hole and I would catch him, which I immediately rejected.
We finally ended up calling Wag, so that he could use a teleportation spell to get him down.
I hadn't really spoke to Wag about the whole Martha incident, and I hadn't told him I knew about the whole Martha incident. But I needed to talk to him about it.

He arrived minutes after we called him, and suggested a spell that might work. We agreed, and he tried it out on Tom. He disappeared as Wag finished mumbling some undistinguishable words, and I heard him shout from down the hole that he was there. Thank the gods.

We climbed down after and Wag followed behind me, still having not said a single word since he got here.
I jumped from the ladder and onto the floor of Nades house, and looked for Tom. Josh was helping him stand, waiting for me to come down. We couldn't take down his wheelchair because it wouldn't fit.
There was a large metal cage in the middle of the living room, and in it sat a hunched over being staring at the floor. It was guard Tom.

He didn't look so good. He looked even worse than when the trial ended, and that was only an hour or two ago.
I took Tom off of Josh's side and held him to mine, we walked to guard Toms cage. Tony pulled up a chair next to the cage and I sat Tom in it, then went back to standing in the corner of the room with Josh and Nade. Tom mumbled a thanks and looked to the shriveled up guard in the cage.

"So...hey man." I was surprised at his calmness.

Guard Tom didn't look up or speak, he just stared at the floor.

"Tom, I wanna know what you feel. Do you feel anything after trying to kill me? Anything at all?"

I doubted he did. He was with Mianite after all.

But the guard looked up just for a moment, but not at Tom. He looked at Tony, but then quickly hid his face back in his knees.

"Tony, why isn't he speaking?" Nade asked.

"I told him if he said one word I'd nail his hands to the wall. My bad." Tony and Josh laughed and high fives each other.

"You can speak, they are not going to hurt you." Wags gentle voice told the quivering guard.

He still didn't move a muscle though.

"Tom, just answer the questions. No ones gonna nail your hands to the wall." Maybe if he heard it from me, he'd believe it.

"Captain...I feel so much regret for what I have done..." His voice was scratchy and tired. I felt...bad...for him.

"Well that's a start. So you do feel bad about what happened?" It seemed like he would only talk to me.

"Yes, I am sorry. I am so sorry..."

"Tom, do you still wanna kill me?" My Tom asked the now slightly shaking guard.

"No. I am sorry Mr. Syndicate. I wasn't thinking..." He shook his head and wiped hai nose with his shirt, avoiding Toms gaze.

"Okay, since you feel guilt, I know that you at least understand what you did was stupid and wrong. So I'll give you a deal, okay?"
Guard Tom nodded, sniffling in the process.

"You have to tell us everything, and I mean everything. If you do, then I'll get the charges taken off of you and you can live like normal again. Sound good?"
"Wh-...what do you mean everything?"
"I mean where exactly you summoned these robots, where you got the new armor, and where the huge rapier came from. And if you hold back, then you'll be stuck with Josh and Tony for the rest of your life. It's your choice, you choose."
The guard looked to Josh and Tony, earning a snarl from the both of them. Guard Tom flinched and averted his eyes back to the floor.

"My fellow guards are still working for lord Mianite, and they live in an observation tower not far from here. They are gone at the moment on other duties. From their other posts, I told them I wanted bots of destruction here, and they granted my wish and sent me the bots. They also sent the armor and weapon. Now can I please be set free? I'm very hungry." He still voided our eyes as he asked the question.

"They have not fed you anything? When we asked you to watch him, we did not mean starve him and beat him. He is a human being, like the rest of us." Wag looked to Josh and Tony, who were grinning at their work, and then walked to the guards cage and handed him a cookie from his cloak pocket. Guard Tom took the cookie, and murmured a short thank you before devouring the cookie.

"You're free to go, but I'm not sure where you're supposed to live. I'm pretty sure Sparklez doesn't want you living in his house anymore," Tom said to the cookie eating guard.

"I understand. I shall find elsewhere. Thank you for your forgiveness, I cannot repay your kindness." He stood up slowly from the floor of his cage, and Tony walked over to open it. The bars swung open, and guard Tom was free once more.

After awhile, most of our friends had shown up at Nades house. Most except for Martha and Steve. They'd heard about guard Tom being let free, and wanted to see it for themselves.

I didn't really feel like sitting around and talking. But I knew I had to talk to someone tonight.

I walked through the small crowd of people and sat next to Wag on the small couch in Nades living room.
"Hey, can I talk to you in private? Maybe outside?" I whispered to him. He nodded and calmly walked to the ladder with me trailing behind.

Once we were out, Wag began walking away. He probably wanted to walk while we had our conversation.
"What seems to be troubling you Jordan? Can I be of help?" He shoved his hands inside the pockets of his cloak and stared straight ahead.

"Actually Wag...this is kinda about you. And someone else."

"Oh? And who would that be?" His voice was getting high pitched, a signal that he most definitely knew what I was talking about.

"Martha. Wag...I saw you guys kissing earlier today. Wag she's married...you shouldn't be with her while she's married."

"So you know about that? I suppose it was not long before our secret was revealed...have you told anyone yet?"

"No because I don't want Steve to kill you and trust me, he will once he finds out."

Wag sighed and kicked a rock that was in the way of our path. "Jordan, I'm in love with her. Her smile, her personality, her look on life...it's not as if I can turn off a switch and stop what I feel for her."

"I knew it. I knew ye was messing with me woman. Yer going to die ye little runt," a deep and hate filled voice said from behind us.

Oh god.

I didn't even have to look back to know who was behind us, I already knew.
"WAG RUN!" I yelled, and Wag took off towards his home. Steve pushed past me with the force of a gorilla and chased after. His face was a dark shade of red, and he looked like he could kill someone.

This is bad.

I have to go get Martha.
