Chapter 52: The Intervention.
It had been an entire week without Sparklez, and I was completely miserable.
I stayed at Tucker's most of the time, trying to keep my mind off him. But he just kept creeping back into it.
The whole meth thing with Wag may have just been a simple trap to get me to lose the bet. I didn't make Tucker call Sparklez anymore, because I needed to focus away from him. Tucker taught me a bit about blood magic, and I still vowed to never ever try it. Slitting my wrist for points? Hell no.
I listened to music, I ate junk foods, I even tried to read a bit. It was a miserable failure, but hey I tried.
I couldn't do this any longer. I'd just have to give him two stacks of diamonds. I missed him so much.
It was Saturday night at midnight when I decided I was ready to lose the bet.
"Tucker...I think I'm ready to give up."
I heard him laugh from the kitchen.
"Well, you lasted longer than I thought you would. Let's go, he's probably at his tower thing."
I practically sprinted all the way there, excited to see him after so long.
He was definitely going to get tackled when I saw him.
When we reached his towers, I stared at them in awe. They we really cool. I could see why he wanted to live here.
We walked up to the front door, and I knocked seventy times on it.
There was never an answer.
"Uh, maybe he's at the tree?"
"No. He said he wasn't coming to the tree, since I lived there."
"Hm...Wags maybe?"
"God I hope not." I had a bad feeling in my stomach.
I ran all the way to Wags and pounded on the front door furiously.
No answer, not a single sound could be heard from his small house on the hill.
"Where is everyone?!" Tucker asked.
Just as he said that, we heard voices. Laughter and screams of excitement. They were coming from behind his house where a huge field laid.
I ran around the back of the house, and my stomach leaped at the sight of him.
But then it dropped as I realized what he was doing.
In the field were, Martha, Ianite, Wag, Jordan, and guard Tom. But they weren't talking or chatting, they were doing things that even the craziest of people wouldn't be seen doing.
My eyes had went to Wag first, who was trying to dig a hole. In the ground. With his bare hands.
He was laughing maniacally and his eyes were bloodshot.
Martha was dancing, to no music whatsoever. I'm not even sure if it was dancing, she was just flailing her arms and legs around in a manner that was sorta graceful. Her eyes were also bloodshot.
Sonja was jumping and reaching for the sky. I mean actually reaching for the freaking sky. Her eyes tinted red as she jumped and leaped at the clouds like a hungry animal.
Guard Tom looked clean. He was sitting on a log, taking in all that happening.
My eyes fell on Jordan. He was chasing Ianite around in full circles, each time he almost caught her she would scream and speed away from him. Her purple hair would slash against his face and he would laugh like a hyena each time it did. Both of their eyes were completely bloodshot.
"Oh my god. What has Wag done? They're all on meth..."
"Is this what's been occupying him all week? Drugs? My Sparklez is a drug addict..." I shook my had at the horrible thought.
"Come on, let's go take them home. I think I know the cure for drug addiction, a nice long intervention."
~2 hours later~
The meth had worn off by now, causing poor Sparklez to be an emotional wreck. He was happy, then horribly depressed, and now he's sobbing in my bed and hugging the pillow like it's his long lost brother. He had himself hidden underneath the covers and his loud sobs could be heard from anywhere in the house. Which was torture for me.
When Sparklez was sick, he didn't like it when I touched or got near him. So it's best to leave him alone.
But hearing him cry so pitifully like this was heart breaking.
I knocked on the door and peaked my head in. He was still in the same state I left him in ten minutes ago.
His sobbing was louder and he had sank even deeper into the bed covers.
"Sparklez? Can I come in?"
He didn't answer, which I'm guessing isn't a no. So I entered and sat on the empty spot beside him. I laid down slowly, careful not to disturb him.
"I'm here...if you need a human...or zombie... to hug rather than a pillow. I love you..."
His crying was a bit quieter, but hadn't ceased much at all.
His jet black hair was sticking out a bit from the covers, and I couldn't help but play with it.
I ran my fingers through it and hummed softly.
His crying stopped. I heard tiny little sniffles instead.
"Sparklez...why are you so sad? I know the drugs you were on are kinda awful but...why the crying?"
He remained silent.
I sighed. He didn't want to talk yet I guess.
So I continued to brush his hair and hum an old John Legend song.
After about five minutes, I thought it was sorta useless to keep asking him things he won't answer. So I turned off the lamp and turned the other way, facing away from Sparklez.
After several seconds, I heard a small and barely audible whisper from him.
"Please don't stop..."
He did want my company. My stomach swirled.
I tuned back over and brushed through his hair again. I heard a sigh of relief from under the red and black covers.
"You know I love you, right? So so much?"
He turned over, but wouldn't let his face be shown. He kept it under the red covers.
I felt his hands wrap around my torso and his wet face press against my stomach. His tears were leaking through my shirt. Light sobbing filled the air again, and I continued brushing his hair as he cried.
"I didn't get to say goodbye..." I heard him whisper.
"To who?"
"Andor...he's gone..."
Oh. So that's where Andor went.
"He left...a note. He didn't even..." He voice faltered and he began crying again.
"He didn't even what Sparklez? Tell me."
"He didn't even tell me he was leaving Tom... I know what happy sugar is...I'm not dumb...I just wanted to forget about Andor...I'm sorry."
"It's okay. It's fine," I whispered as I kissed his forehead.
"He told me not to mourn but I can't just pretend he was never here. He was my best friend..." He sniffled as he hugged me tighter.
"What can I do? How can I make it better?"
"I dunno...I was fine until, you know, the intervention...then I just started realizing he was gone. That was an interesting intervention by the way. I'm surprised you all didn't give up on us," he laughed weakly.
I laughed at the thought of the intervention. It was really interesting, since nearly two thirds of them were addicted to meth. Steve, Guard Tom, Tucker and I were the ones leading it. And getting a bunch of drug heads to sit still in a room and listen was nearly impossible.
~One hour earlier~
"Wag stop squirming! Just sit for a second!" Tucker griped angrily at Wag as he tried to wiggle his way out of the small wooden chair, still being affected by the meth and it's contents.
We managed to haul all of them into Tucker's dojo living room. Martha would not stop giggling as Steve tried to get her to sit as well. She was dancing and laughing and touching Steve in places I had to look away from. Steve was being resilient, but I could tell he wanted to do something much more drastic. That involved a bed.
Sparklez was a little easier for me to coach back to Tucker's. I told him I'd give him a special kiss if he did what I said, and he agreed. At least I think he did. He was in the middle of collapsing on the ground when he nodded his head.
There was literally nothing happening, he was sitting with me on the couch. Staring at the ceiling. Not even moving. I didn't have to do anything to get him to sit. He just did it.
I was so worried.
Ianite had disappeared as soon as we confronted them all, but I assumed Dianite, wherever he was, would convince her to stay clean.
Guard Tom, had tried to apologize nervously for the incident.
"I-I suppose I should have stopped them...but they just seemed so happy. I didn't want to damper their fun. Now I see...just how serious this is..." He had said.
Sonja had passed out. Like literally passed out. She was in the arm chair beside the couch, totally out of it. I guess getting high made her tired.
Once everyone was settled, Tucker began to talk.
"Okay, so I've noticed that you guys are facing a drug issue-"
"It's not drugs! It's happy sugar!" Martha sang as she caressed Steve's cheek. He had basically pinned her to the front of him with his arms restraining her waist and was trying his hardest to not give in to his instincts.
"Happy sugar, is very very very bad. It makes you get old, and crusty, and crazy sick. You need to stop. Although I know you guys were probably pressured by a certain wizard, you should still take responsibility for your actions. Meth is not a quit and go thing, it's an addiction. So, I want everyone to drink these."
Tucker walked to his kitchen and pulled a small platter out with a bunch of green looking drinks in clear cups. It looked absolutely disgusting, but I guess I should trust him on this.
Martha scrunched up her nose and tried to weakly push away at Steve's arms, but wasn't getting anywhere. Wag groaned and squirmed in his chair, Tucker had strapped him on it with a rope. Sparklez was staring at the floor now, a blank expression on his face.
Tucker began handing out drinks to the meth druggies, and I shook Sparklez lightly.
"Hey, you okay?"
He blinked once and turned his head slowly to me, his eyes didn't show any emotion, then they went back at the floor.
Tucker came back with the drink and handed it to Sparklez. He didn't even look up as he took the drink and immediately pressed it to his lips and drank the green slimy liquid. In ten seconds flat he had emptied the glass. He handed the empty glass to the confused looking Tucker.
Tucker walked away, still gazing at Sparklez worriedly as he went to Wags chair.
After Tucker practically forced the drink down Wags throat, he began speaking again about how drugs suck and why.
I was staring at Sparklez the whole time though. He was worrying me. He hadn't said one word today.
"Sparklez? Are you listening to Tucker?"
He wasnt paying attention to anything. I noticed he was fiddling around with something in his pocket, but he wouldn't show it.
After several minutes of staring at him and hearing Tucker's excessive lecturing, I decided to confront him.
I wrapped my hand around his wrist and pulled it from his pocket.
In his hand, a single white feather.
Why did he have a feather?
He seemed startled by my action, but still kept a blank expression.
"What is this? Why are you messing with it?"
No answer. Just another stare.
"Answer me! Why do you have this?! Why aren't you talking to me?!"
By now, Tucker had stopped his lecture and the whole crew was looking at us.
He still wouldn't answer. But I saw something flicker in his eyes, just for a moment.
Loss.
I'd known it all too well.
He knew I recognized it, because he then got up and walked from the couch to the door, leaving me with so many unanswered questions. The door closed behind him as he left.
"Go after him. I'll be busy lecturing the rest of these delinquents..." Tucker sighed.
"Thanks Tucker!"
I ran out the door and after Sparklez, who was still in my line of vision.
"Sparklez! Wait up! Tell me what's wrong!"
I finally caught up to him, and he had his hands stuffed in his pockets while he stared at the ground he was walking on.
"Come on, I know it wasn't the meth. Meth doesn't make you this out of it. Please, tell me."
Nothing. Not even a glance.
I needed to know, even if he wasn't willing to give me the information.
I stepped in front of him, blocking his path. He sighed and walked around me.
"Sparklez, if you don't tell me what's going on, there will be consequences. Last chance, you better tell me."
He ignored me and continued to walk upwards to his new house.
Well, I tried to warn him.
I stepped back a few feet, then fully ran and charged Sparklez to the ground. I heard a loud grunt as I pushed him to the ground.
"What are you doing?!" He screamed.
"Tell me! That's all I want!"
"Just leave me alone! I don't want to be bothered!" He tried to wiggle away from my grasp, but I took both of his hands and pinned them to both sides of his head. One of my knees pressed down on his stomach, the other pressed his upper legs down. He was not leaving my grip.
"Tell me now! It's not that hard! Just say it!"
"No! Go away Tom! I mean it!" He spat.
"Then you leave me no choice. I'll just have to torture you," I smiled evilly. His eyes widened in fear and he tried harder to get away, but it was useless. I was in control.
I attacked his lips with mine and kissed him passionately. His eyes closed and so did mine. He had such soft lips...such pretty eyes. Stop it Tom! Focus! You're tormenting him!
I slowly trailed my way down to his jaw and then his neck. I knew just where his spot was.
"Tom stop! I don't want to deal with this right now! Just let me go!" He squirmed underneath my touch.
"Not until you tell me. Better hurry, your shoulders look tasty." I continued to kiss his neck tenderly.
"Stop! Just stop...I just wanna go home...stop..." His voice cracked and I could hear him on the verge of tears.
I pulled away immediately and look at his face. It was soaked in tears and he had his eyes tightly closed.
He erupted into shaky sobs and turned his head away from mine. He didn't want me to see him cry.
I got off of him and sat on the grass. I didn't really know what to do.
"I'll take you home...if you want..."
He nodded his head and let out another sob.
I stood and picked him up from the grass. He buried his head into my shoulder.
I began to walk in the direction of the tower as he stained my shirt with tears.
When we arrived I began to walk up the hill, when Sparklez stopped me.
"N-no, home." He stuttered with a heart breaking tone.
"What do you mean? That is home. That's your tower isn't it?"
"Our home...the tree..."
~
"So what was up with that feather? What was it?" I asked him while he snuggled into me further.
"It's Andor's feather. It came from his wings. The ones I made him..."
"I'm sorry about Andor...he was just ready to leave I guess..."
"I guess...I hope he's okay. He didn't bring any weapons with him..."
"I'm sure he'll be fine. He's tough...sorta. Oh who am I kidding, he's dead." I shook my head at the shame.
"That's what I was thinking. All I can do is hope though. Maybe he won't run into any too hostile mobs."
"Yeah. Hey Sparklez?"
"Yes Tom?"
"You wanna...you know...do the thing?" I wiggled my eye brows at him, hoping he'd get the phrase.
He smiled shyly and avoided my gaze.
"...yes."
I grinned and turned off the lamp, preparing for a very very long night.
