Chapter 43: Pushed Limits and Healing
I was the one who cleaned and fed and clothed Andor as soon as we reached home. Tom and I took him to the tree, assuming he didn't want to visit the lonely town.
Martha and Steve parted to Cherry Ridge farms, probably to share a night of passion.
I assumed the same for Tucker and Sonja, since neither could keep their hands off eachother the whole ride home. Wag went back to his home and said he was going to get drunk as hell and pass out. Which sounded good to me.
By the time the RV had even reached home, Andor was asleep. The poor guy looked like he hadn't had any peaceful sleep in a long time.
I carried him home, Tom beside me just in case I fell or something. He'd been surprisingly quiet since we got back home. He hadn't said a single word to me.
Andor woke up when I put him to bed in the spare bedroom. I accidentally bumped his back and he had woken up from the sudden pain.
"Curse these confounded stubs..." He grumbled as he tried to get comfortable on the bed.
"Let me see, I might be able to fix them up a bit." He turned around and I almost got sick all over again.
They looked worse. Blood still trickled from them and torn nerves were beginning to drop down lower.
"Oh god..." I bit my nail nervously. He really needed stitches.
"It's very bad, isn't it?" He asked sadly.
"Do you mind if we put a few stitches in them? Just to heal it up a bit?"
"If you think it's for the best..."
~
He screamed again as Tom pulled the needle through once more. I held his hand tightly as he screamed, the needle piercing his torn flesh. We were sitting at the small table in the kitchen, Andor was leaned over the top of it. Tom was trying to sew up the wounds and cut out the torn nerve. Andor was breathing heavily and whimpering from the pain. We didn't have any pain medication, and we couldn't have taken him to Dec to get some.
When we had gotten back, the town was completely deserted. Not a soul remained. Everyone had moved from the lack of a leader and the lack of safe government. The town hadn't traded anything since Helgrind disappeared after he sent away Andor, causing them to run out of food.
Now it was a ghost town. Dec was most likely gone, like everyone else.
So we had to do it ourselves, which was extremely painful for poor Andor.
"Sparklez...is he gonna be okay?" Tom asked concerned. He had stopped after seeing Andor tear up.
"I'm f-fine...just need a m-moment..." He breathed in deeply and gripped my hand tighter.
"Okay. Again, I'm ready."
"Okay...I'm sorry dude..."
He screamed as Tom sewed up more of the broken skin.
~
Andor was lying on the kitchen table, whimpering in pain from the stitches.
Tom had done a pretty good job, considering that Andor writhed and screamed the whole time. We patched him up with a ton of bandages and gave him an old healing potion Dec gave us a while ago. He still looked like crap though. He needed some clothes and a good shower, but he was in a lot of pain so I wasn't sure if now was the best time.
"Andor bud?" I asked uncertain.
"Yes Jordan?" Andor replied weakly.
"Would you like me to run you a bath? Something to help calm your nerves?"
"I'm...I'm not sure if I can...my arms feel numb..."
I looked up to Tom and walked him out of the room.
"What?" He whispered.
"Would you get mad if I helped him...clean up?"
"I don't care...I know you're trying to help him. I'll get him some clothes and stuff. You do your thing."
He walked back to our bedroom and I listened as I heard him dig through our clothes drawer.
I walked back into the kitchen and saw that Andor hadn't moved from his spot.
"Hey uh, I can help you clean up if you'd like. I won't look anywhere I'm not supposed to, okay?"
He just nodded his head solemnly and began to raise up. He followed me to the bathroom and I began to turn on the faucet and fill up the tub. I heard him gasp slightly behind me and I turned to see what was the matter. He was looking at his reflection in the mirror. Mostly at the bruises and cuts on his face and shoulders.
I put my hand comfortingly on his shoulder.
"You'll look better after I'm done. I promise."
He sighed sadly and stepped into the tub.
I avoided looking anywhere below his stomach. It was really awkward and weird to be bathing another person.
But he seemed to enjoy being clean after a month of staying in a dirty prison. His face looked better after I cleaned up most of the smudges and dirt on it. The amount of dry blood he had on his back was really disturbing. Poor dude.
The bath tub was a gross brown red color after I finished, but Andor was clean at least. I handed him a towel and looked away as he tied it around himself.
"I'll be right back, I'm gonna get some clothes for you."
I came back moments later with the clothes Tom had picked out for him. I'd never seen them before in my life, so I guess they were Toms old clothes. It was a faded out pair of grey ball shorts and a plain green T-shirt. I exited as Andor got dressed.
But a knock on the door signaled he was having trouble with putting something on.
I opens the door slightly and peeked my head in.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I can't get my arms in the sleeves..." He replied embarrassed. His arms were stuck above his head in the shirt.
I laughed and pulled it down over his head, he smiled as he let his arms fall to his sides.
"So...you wanna look? At your reflection?" I pointed at the mirror.
Andor looked carefully at the mirror, as if it was his greatest enemy.
But as soon as he looked at his reflection, he smiled. His hands went up to feel around his face and hair, which were clean and neat.
He looked back to me, tears in his eyes.
"Thank you...I owe you so much Jordan. Tom too..." He hugged me and sniffled.
"It's no problem man...you're one of my best friends. You didn't deserve any of this."
I led him back to the spare bedroom, he was still limping slightly.
I helped him back into bed. He laid on his side to avoid hurting his back, and I covered him up with a lot of blankets so he would be extra comfortable.
"Jordan?"
"Yeah?"
"Why do you take such good care of me? I haven't really done much for you..."
"You kidding? You've done everything for me. Your stood up for our beliefs when I wouldn't, I was too scared. You gave me help when I needed it, even though I took advantage of it most of the time...you were still my friend. That's more than enough for me to be best friends with you." I smiled at him.
He smiled back.
"I should go and let you sleep. You must be extremely tired."
"I don't think I can sleep. I'm still kind of...stinging. Are you in any pain?"
I scratched my head, thinking about any injuries I might've gotten. None came to mind.
"Nah I don't think I really-"
"What happened to your arm?!" He exclaimed.
What?
I looked at the arm that he was pointing at and saw what he was going on about. There was a gigantic cut going all the way from my elbow to my palm. Redness surrounded it, showing that it was badly infected.
"God dangit...I forgot about this..." I forgot about the guard slashing my arm, and Tom killing him immediately.
"It looks infected, do you need assistance in wrapping it?" He asked.
"No no! I can do it. You rest, I'm gonna go back to bed and wrap this up. Goodnight Andor."
I stood up from the bed when he grabbed my good arm and stopped me.
"I'm sorry if...I wake you up in the middle of the night. When I sleep, I dream of odd things..."
"It's okay. I do too. Goodnight, get some rest."
"Goodnight Jordan."
~
"I can't believe you killed a dude today..."
"His fault. I wouldn't have attacked him if he hadn't attacked you," he answered shortly.
He was acting weird.
"Tom, what's wrong?"
"What? Nothing. Nothing's wrong."
"Something's wrong. Please tell me."
He just continued to stare straight at the wall, ignoring me.
We sat in the bed together, talking about what happened today, but Tom was acting oddly strange about it.
"Tom please, what did I do wrong?"
Silence followed.
But then I saw something...click inside of him.
He suddenly kicked his covers off as fast as he could and attacked my face with his
mouth.
I squeaked in surprise at the sudden gesture.
He continued to trail kisses down my neck and shoulders.
"Tom..." I asked.
He ignored me and kept doing his work. I lightly pushed at him.
"Tom?"
Not even a glance up as he trailed down further. My arm tried to separate him, but he just pulled it away and continued.
"Tom stop. Stop!" I ordered.
He still wouldn't listen. He undid the button on my shirt.
"TOM STOP I DONT WANT THIS!" I pushed him off and stood up from the bed. My cheeks were flushed and I was getting bothered. I didn't want to do this. Not yet anyway.
"What's your problem?! I thought you wanted this!" He yelled angrily at me.
"What are you talking about?! I never said anything about wanting to do that!"
"Well I'm sorry for wanting to TAKE THE RELATIONSHIP FURTHER!" He screamed at me.
"Please don't make me leave...please. I don't want to run away."
But he wasn't listening to me, only himself and his anger.
"EVERYONE ELSE DOES THIS SO WHY CANT WE?! BECAUSE YOURE A FREAKING VIRGIN! I CANT EVEN TOUCH YOU WITHOUT YOU ACTING LIKE A LITTLE BI-"
I cupped my hands over my ears and squeezed my eyes shut.
He broke the promise. Like it was nothing.
My heart shattered. But I wasn't gonna break mine. I wasn't gonna run away.
I just stood there, hearing insults of me pouring from his mouth.
I cried, but who wouldn't if this happened to someone else.
But then I heard something else. A scream.
It wasn't Tom or me.
Andor.
I bolted from the room, not even bothering to see if Tom had heard it.
I ran to the small spare bedroom and threw open the door.
Andor was siting straight up on his bed, gripping the bed sheets like they were restraints.
He was still screaming, but he wasn't moving at all. His eyes were wide, the size of quarters. Buts that what scared me the most.
His eyes were dark purple. He had no pupils. He was screaming at something I couldn't see.
His eyes focused on something straight ahead in front of him.
Then something...something I couldn't explain happened.
Everything began to float.
The bed, the drawers, the vases, the frames. Everything was floating slowly up in the air.
"Andor?!" I yelled over his screams.
His neck turned towards me at an...interesting angle. One that a normal human couldn't do. His eyes pierced into mine.
Waves of pain began shooting from my head.
I gripped the sides of my head and fell, my vision began getting dark.
I heard furniture and breaking glass being thrown about the room, but I couldn't see it.
Andor's screams continued, getting louder by the minute.
"Sparklez?! Andor what the hell?!" I heard Tom come up behind me.
I felt something whoosh by me, barely missing my head. But I was almost certain it hit Tom.
"Urg...ow..." I heard him groan.
I heard a thud nearby me, and I turned slightly to see Tom holding his cheek which was gushing blood.
"ENOUGH!" I heard a loud female voice call out.
What? What's happening?
I heard things drop and the screaming cease.
The pain left my head, and I was regaining my vision.
Footsteps walked towards me in a fast pace, and I looked to see who it was.
Lady Ianite picked me up gently by the arm and held my face.
"Are you alright?" She asked uncertain.
"I think...Tom needs help."
"Oh goodness! Thomas, are you badly hurt?" She talked behind me.
"No...it's just a little cut. What the hell was that?"
"Acolytes...they have some very powerful abilities. Some of which they can't control very easily, especially when they dream. Andor is an Acolyte, he serves me and uses his powers to defend my honor and defend my followers. When I or one of my followers are attacked in any way, their instinct is to harm...well anyone close by. I helped Steve control his abilities, but I haven't Andor. I should've known this would happen..."
She walked to Andor's side, he was fast asleep again. Like nothing happened.
But by the looks of the bedroom, you could tell something powerful happened here.
Everything was trashed and broken, I looked at the floor near me and saw what had hit Tom in the face. It was a broken picture frame.
I turned to him. I wasn't gonna let a silly dispute get in the way of my concerns for him.
"Are you sure you're okay? You're bleeding really badly."
"I'm fine. But I wouldn't expect you to care. A relationship is clearly too much for you to handle."
He raised up from his spot, a hand still on his gushing cheek. His angry glare left me as he walked out of the room.
I was so frustrated. I can't just be in love with him? I had to make love with him too?
But...I didn't want that yet. Didn't he understand?
"Toms...lecturing... must have triggered Andor's abilities, I apologize for the damage. But may I ask why he is so angry with you?" She asked curious. She was sitting on the bed near Andor, lightly stroking his hair. I remember when she used to do that to me to keep me calm.
I didn't need that anymore. I was strong.
"He was trying to...get me to...um." I tried to get the words out, but was failing.
"Make love with him?" She answered for me. The phrase didn't seem to faze her at all, while my cheeks began to warm up at the words. I'm so awkward...
"Yeah...I didn't want to. We haven't even been dating a week and he just...I'm not ready for that yet...why won't he understand?" I asked the question more to myself than to Ianite.
"Perhaps he just likes to move fast in relationships? Your slow pace may unnerve him a little. He loves you dearly Jordan, and he wants to do many things with you because of that. I know Spark was always so eager to do everything together when we first became a couple...he was very sweet," she smiled, thinking back on the memory.
"But what do I do about it? How do I get him to stop being mad at me..."
"Hmm...I see your apologies won't work and neither will explanation...I'm not one to usually attempt this but, perhaps fill him with slight jealousy?"
"Jealousy? Like hang out with someone else?" I asked. The idea seemed a little extreme to me...
"Yes. Be with another being for a few days, maybe that will remind him of how lucky he is to have you. It is extreme, but it has a major chance of working. You do not have to, I suppose another option would be to try and explain again..." Her voice filled with doubt on the last sentence.
"I guess I could try and make him a little jealous...who would I hang out with though? There's no one my age...and human...around here that isn't already in a relationship."
"Oh I don't know. I'm sure my Andor is only a year younger than you...maybe with him?"
She smiled down at Andor's sleeping form. He was grinning, holding onto a pillow as if it were his best friend. His scratched and cut up face still brought guilt on me, but at least he looked happy...
"I guess that could work. Are you gonna heal him? His wings, I mean?"
She sighed sadly and lightly touched the bandaged stubs on his back.
"I cannot...I have not been able to heal anything since I healed you...my powers are so weak, I am surprised at how I am still able to use teleport and mind reading. But you seem to be taking care of him quite well, am I correct?"
"Yeah, we gave him some stitches to heal up his back. I guess the cuts will heal on their own. He's in a lot of pain..."
"Yes, and it pains me that he is. Spend most of your time with him, and then maybe our little idea will work. I must go now, he's awaking. I cannot let him see me."
She raised up and I did as well.
"Why can't you let him see you?"
"How would I explain to the poor child about who his grandparents are? It would be too hard on him when he's in this state, maybe someday I will tell him. But that is not today. Do me a favor and don't tell him about what he's just done. Say it was some sort of earthquake or something similar. Goodbye Jordan."
Her sight smeared away, then disappeared all together.
Andor began to stir. He let loose of the pillow he was gripping.
How in the world do I explain what happened?
