The Shrine is Mine

I just wanted to say that I honestly I admire you guys who still stick with this fandom.

This chapter is for you. <3

Since it's been an honest to goodness minute since I last put up a chapter, I'm going to give you a little rundown of events so you aren't forced to reread the end of the last chapter to get some semblance of an idea of whats going on.  Plus, once you've read so many fics, the stories blend together and get confusing.
So basically-

Johdan be da champ of Justice Lady.  Bad Dude doesn't like Justice Lady so he shut her up in some dark cell.  Good Guy MaGee over here like oh no gotta get sum o dat Johdan ovah hur and sends Furrya to collect him.  But Furrya be Bad Dude's dude and tries to beat up Johdan, but Johdan make his jetpack go boom and burns his sick tree house down (which is a total bummer man).  He wake up in Mianite doh and Tum be like wassup.  Tum is a champ of Bad Dude, but foh sum reason Johdan don't rully care.  Tooker and Sunya exist too as champs of Good Guy.  They also strangely are friends wit Tum.  But ye, a lot of stuff happens.  Justice Lady has some pain probs that affect Johdan, Johdan kills Nudeshot and nobody cares, the wizards be fire, and there are pirates involved.

They have now come to the small island of Ianerea where the last standing temple of Ianite in the mortal realm resides.  The town, also the home of Capsize and her crew, is found devestated with not even a single survivor in sight.  The group rush to see if the temple is still standing, but find a familiar figure standing before them.

And so it continues...

Maybe it was because of the temple nearby or his own recklesness that drove him, but Jordan felt a sudden and desperate urge to punch Furia.

And so he gave into the urge.

The bright figure reeled back with a howl as Jordan's fist collided with the blackened skull.  Sadly, Furia didn't fall off the edge of the pier as Jordan had hoped.  Instead, the guardian seemed to step back on solid air.

Stupid immortals and their flying.

Jordan flapped his hand frantically, trying to cool his steaming skin.  He glared at Furia who was grinning down at him, having seemingly recovered from the hit.

Man he really missed when this guy didn't have a mouth.

Jordan felt the temperature of the air rise rapidly around him.  A bead of sweat rolled down his cheek as Furia leaned in close.

"I've missed you too." He crooned.

Jordan wanted to recoil as the demon's rancid breath washed over his nostrils.  Honestly, could no one afford a toothbrush in the Nether?

Jordan's thoughts were quickly interrupted as a hand touched his shoulder.

"Why are you here?" Tucker's voice was calm, but filled with barely restrained anger as he stepped up next to Jordan.  The demon leaned back in surprise as Jordan shot a glance at his companion.  Tucker looked beyond pissed.  Doubtless he was remembering their last encounter with the demon.

Jordan flinched as the memory of the day crawled unbidden into his mind.  Tucker bleeding out, Tom with blood running from his eyes, and Nade-

Jordan wanted to cry at the memory of Nade.  Everyone seemed to avoid mentioning the Dianitee.  It was almost if he had never existed.  Perhaps they were used to it, seeing champions come and go.  But he...

He hadn't.. he didn't mean-

No, this wasn't the time to think of that.

He glanced back at Tom who was standing stock-still several feet back, staring up at the floating figure with a mixture of anger and terror.

"He asked you a question!" Sonja called.

Jordan turned his attention back to
Furia who was still hovering just out of reach.  He glared down at Sonja who glared back just as venemously.

"Who are you to question the will of Dianite?" The demon spat.

The group was silent for a moment, their suspicions confirmed.

"So Dianite ordered ye to do this?" Capsize growled, stepping forward.  It was the first thing she'd said since she had set off running and Jordan was surprised to hear her voice.

Furia blinked, realizing suddenly that he'd said too much.

Jordan's chest began to ache, a hollow pain that resonated so suddenly that Jordan had to hold in a gasp.  He felt Sonja's gaze bore questioningly into the back of his head, but he ignored her.  He pushed it down.  He didn't have time for this.

Tom was unnaturally quiet throughout the conversation.  Jordan got the sudden fear that the afore-mentioned god was speaking to him again.  Giving him a quick look over, Jordan quickly surmised that this was not the issue.  Tom seemed far too concentrated on the conversation in front of him to be having a seperate one in his head.

Then he realized that Tom had another reason for looking like he'd been punched in the gut.  Not only had he just been told that his god was responsible for the island's destruction, but the messenger was none other than the individual who had possessed him not too long ago.  Jordan couldn't imagine what it would be like to be a prisoner within their own body, but that's what Tom had been reduced to then.

Jordan wanted to place a hand on the man's shoulder, but knew that the gesture probably wouldn't be appreaciated at the moment, especially from him.  Tom looked caught between punching someone or fleeing at the smallest movement.

Furia, however, seemed to not notice Tom, skimming over the green man without a second glance as he observed the group.

Sonja and Tucker stood on either side of him, faces set in determined lines.  Redbeard stood a little ways back from the group, still looking vaguely drunk despite the sobering events of the day.  Tom looked ready to puke.

Capsize looked ready to kill.

Jordan was sure his expression betrayed a similar emotion.

"You're trying to destroy Ianite's temple." Jordan realized with a start, holding back a wince as the pain in his body seemed to double, despite his efforts to push it down.

Furia rolled his eyes.

"It's pathetic that you're the smart one." He muttered under his breath and Jordan fought down the urge to tackle the creature again regardless of the pain.

"But you can't, can you?" Sonja frowned. "There's a barrier."

Jordan looked back at the temple, looking so small and rundown for such an important place.

Furia bristled angrily.

"It's true that the barrier was not expected, but it can't stand against me for much longer."

Despite his longing to refute Furia's claim, he knew he was right.  He could feel it, the fragility of the temple's last defenses desperately trying to stay up.  Once, the temple had had practically an endless supply of power that a cretin like Furia would never hope of denting.  But now that it had spent decades without the presence of its patron, it was hanging on to the lingering dregs of power left to it.

Jordan felt an aching hollowness as though the island was sentient and sending out its distress to him.  It was strange how much more sensitive he felt since they had arrived as though his senses had been opened wide.  It was exhilarating, but at the same time, it brought with it an intense pain in his chest that was nearly unbearable.  This devestation was not balanced.  There was no justice in its destruction.  There was no balance. No justice.

His pain was replaced by a burning sensation.

Before he could process what he was doing, his sword was drawn, flashing in front of his eyes like a living creature before darting forward like snake striking its prey.  With a high pitched squeak of surprise, Furia flailed backwards out of range of the deadly weapon.

The fire faded just as quickly as it had come.  Jordan wanted to vomit, the pain racking his body so violently now that he cried out, no longer able to stand.  Hands caught him before he hit the ground, but they did nothing to ease the painful fit that had consumed his body.

He couldn't see, he was burning, he was being sawed in half, he was dying, he was fading-

"Shit, it's been so long I didn't think these were a thing anymore." Sonja cursed as Jordan realized that it was her who had caught him.

He was going to black out, the pain more overwhelming than any fit he had had before as if the island had skinned him raw leaving him more perceptive of his Lady's pain.

"Aw is someone having a little problem?"

The fire in his chest flickered again for a moment, but sputtered out weakly.

"What did ye do, ye hellion?" Jordan heard Capsize growl.

"Oh no, I'm not doing anything." Furia's voice was amused.  "Well I suppose I am somewhat responsible."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Tucker spoke up.

Jordan felt Sonja's arms tense and he forced his eyes open.  Furia had set down in front of them and was staring down at him smugly.

"It's her." He spat. "She can't stand things not being balanced.  It's built into her to execute justice whenever something happens and, well, this town is just that.  The kid's linked to her through that lovely little tattoo on his shoulder.  It allows him to communicate with her, but it's a two way street.  She can feel his pain and he can feel hers, albeit a little dulled." Furia grinned.  "Oh she must be writhing if he's feeling that much." He laughed delightedly.

Jordan's stomach sank.

"I bet it hurts," Furia spoke in a low purr "for me to be so close and yet you can't do anything."

It was true, the closer Furia got, the more intense the pain and the need became.  He couldn't withhold the cry of pain that escaped his lips nor the utter despair and fury that blanketed his mind.

The others were frozen, unable to stop Furia as he walked forward.  Breaking himself from the trance, Tucker put himself between Furia and his girlfriend, blocking Jordan's view.  However, he quickly regained it as Furia tossed Tucker aside like a rag doll.

"Tucker!" Sonja cried out and suddenly Jordan was alone, the breath knocked from his lungs as he was dropped.  Thankfully, his back hit the ground first, saving his head from the brunt of the fall.  So now even though his breaths came in short, ragged puffs, he had a clear vision as Furia stalked towards him.

"You know, I was just here to destroy the temple, but honestly, destroying you would hurt her so much more."

"Why?" Jordan managed to croak, desperate to distract Furia.

It seemed to work as the creature halted in its path, staring at him blankly.

"Why?" He advanced towards Jordan suddenly.

"Why are you doing this?" Jordan didn't know where he was drawing his courage from as his entire body shook traitorously.

Furia only grew more, well, furious.

"Why? Do you know nothing,  boy?  She is the cause of this!" Furia was worked up now, eyes literally on fire. "She created the divide that started this pointless war!  She gave Mianite power over my lord when they were created as equals!" He was yelling, flames sputtering from his lips. "If she's gone, we can return things to how they were, to how they should be."

Furia raised his hand and it began to glow until the heat was so intense his arm turned a molten white.

Furia was uncomfortably close.  Jordan was sure the heat was already searing the top layer of skin on his arm, but he could no longer tell where the pain in his body was coming from it was all so intense.

This was it.  All the fighting he'd done uo to this point had been pointless

"Something tells me that destroying justice can't really be considered justice when there's no longer any justice.  I mean, how do ye justify the destruction of Justice when there's no justice to justify with?"

Furia froze and all eyes turned to the red haired pirate standing off to the side.

His voice had been nonchalant, void of any emotion. He looked unimpressed and even Capsize looked at him incredulously.

Furia's mouth gaped open like a dying fish,  simultaneously enraged and confused.

However, the distraction was all Jordan needed.  With a strength he was surprised to find still existed in his body, he lept to his feet, taking several steps back to where his sword was laying where he had dropped it moments ago.  Sword in hand, he brandished it weakly at Furia who had turned their attention back to Jordan.

For a moment, Furia just seemed surprised that Jordan was standing, but his expression quickly turned to amusement.

"I truly must give you credit, Sparklez.  Like a cockroach, you can survive the big blast." He was close again, his eyes filling Jordan's vision and searing his eyebrows. "But nothing can protect you from the heel of my foot."

And suddenly, Furia was growing, the heat multiplying as fast as his body size until he was the size of a house.

The sudden increase in closeness sent Jordan reeling backwards, helpless on the ground once again.  Blinding pain shot through his skull as the pain multiplied with Furia's size.

The flaming creature raised its leg torturously slow until the searing hot foot floated only a foot from Jordan's face.

"Good bye, Sparkly boy." The creature chuckled.

Just as Jordan was about to be made a charred pancake, a sound cut through the silence, freezing Furia mid-stomp.

As though some kind of spell had broken, Furia shot back to his original size, eye sockets widened in what could only be described as fear.

Jordan felt arms tuck under his armpits and glanced up to find Tom hauling him to his feet and dragging hin away.  He stumbled as he tried to right himself, but the green man quickly caught him, allowing Jordan's weakened body to be supported on his shoulder.  Tom's focus, however, was still on the frozen figure before them.

"Frozen" was a good term as it seemed the fire had literally gone out of his eyes.  The instensely bright heat that normally encased the creature had dimmed as though his body had literally run cold with fear.  Slowly, he turned to look back at Jordan, the fear mingling with heavy distaste.

"Consider today your lucky break, kid."

And with that, he was gone.

They all stood in silence, frozen in their respective spots.  Jordan steadied his breathing now that the main source of his pain had dispersed.  There was still pain there, but not at the level of the intense breakdown he had just had.

Finally, it was Tucker who spoke what was all on their minds.

"Is Furia.. afraid of cows?"

A/N
