Meeting The Madrigals
Camilo's POV
My face was on fire. I'd never told anyone about this little crush I had on Y/N, and with everyone saying we were dating...I just had to leave that talking to her. I was so, so, so, so, SO happy that she was calling us friends when we'd just met like what, fifteen minutes ago! I had to make her fall for me. And that was going to be pretty easy.
I led her to La Casa Madrigal. I didn't know if anyone else knew she was coming, because she had told Mirabel in one of her letters, and I go through them sooo...
But I don't think anyone else knew. Well, we were about to find out.
"Casita, let us in," I said automatically. The door swung open. A window waved at us. "Hola, Casita," I said. "This is Y/N. She just moved here. I know you've gotten her letters in the mail, Casita." The tiles went up and down. The house was nodding.
"Hola, Casita," Y/N said. I hadn't even noticed I had my arm around her waist. I let go slowly so she wouldn't notice. "I've heard so much about you," she said.
"We should go inside," I told Y/N. "See you inside, Casita." Casita nodded again.
The second Y/N stepped foot inside, someone squealed. Mirabel practically flew down the stairs to hug Y/N.
Y/N's POV
Mirabel hugged me so hard she might as well have crushed my ribs. Nevertheless, I hugged her back, enjoying the warm embrace.
After the big, long hug, Mirabel took her first look at me. She'd seen me before in pictures, but never in person. I studied her too- the curly hair, the glasses, the dress and- oh my Lord- the little bag! I'm positive she's the one who made it.
"I'm so glad to finally be able to meet you," Mirabel said with enthusiasm.
"Me too!" I exclaimed, not being able to contain my excitement. "We don't have to be pen-pals anymore, because I'm staying permanently!"
Mirabel squealed. Out the corner of my eye, I saw Camilo smiling, too. I guess he was happy for Mirabel? I mean, they were pretty close, and Mirabel described him as a caring person so... I don't know.
"Does anyone know I'm coming?" I asked.
"Oh, well, everyone knows I've got a pen-pal," Mirabel said. "They didn't know you were coming until this gifted-Madrigals only party. I was celebrating the fact that you were coming, and... Dolores heard me. She told 'em all."
"Ah, Dolores," I said. "The best eavesdropper."
"Yeah, but that can lead to trouble," Mirabel said. "Well, anyway, at least things will be less awkward over dinner."
I hadn't realized that the sun had already been setting when I left my house. "That'll be fun," I said. Mirabel led me to the dinner table, where she sat me down between her and her mother, across from Camilo. I looked around as all the other Madrigals took their seats. Abuela Alma sat at the head of the table.
"Hello," said Mirabel's mother, Julieta, next to me. "You must be Y/N. Mirabel talks about you nonstop."
I kind of blushed. "Yeah, that's me," I said. "She talks about you all, too." Mirabel nudged me. "I suppose you wouldn't have a problem testing your knowledge, then?" she said. I smiled. No problem at all," I said. I looked next to me, at Mirabel's mom. "Julieta Madrigal, daughter of Abuela Alma, wife of Augustine, mother of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel. Gift of healing through food," I said. Julieta smiled. "You taught her well, Mirabel," she said. "Go on." I looked across of me. "Camilo Madrigal, middle child to Pepa and Felix Madrigal, older sibling of Antonio, younger sibling of Dolores, gift of shapeshifting," I said. He blushed so hard. "Well done," said the orange-haired Madrigal I knew to be Pepa. I smiled at her and began, "Pepa Madrigal, wife of Felix, mother of Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio, gift of weather through emotion." A rainbow appeared over her head, making me smile. I turned my head and chose another Madrigal. My eyes came to rest on the one I saw earlier, Luisa.
"Luisa Madrigal," I said. "Middle child to Julieta and Augustine, older sister to Mirabel, younger sister to Isabela. Gift of super strength." "Well done," Luisa said. I smiled and turned to a Madrigal with a curly bun. "Dolores Madrigal, daughter of Pepa and Felix, oldest sister to Camilo and Antonio, gift of super hearing." Dolores nodded in approval. I turned to a long-haired girl with streaks of color. "Isabela Madrigal, daughter of Julieta and Augustine, oldest sister of Luisa and Mirabel, gift of controlling plants, formerly 'perfect'." I said. Isabela seemed embarrassed at the last sentence. I turned to the tiniest of them all. "Antonio Madrigal," I said. "Son of Pepa and Felix, youngest sibling to Dolores and Camilo, gift of communicating with animals." Antonio clapped his hands. "Did Mirabel tell you all that?" he asked. I smiled. "Yup," I said. "She's a good teacher. Also, we have Bruno, brother of Pepa and Julieta, hiding under the table, probably playing with rats. Gift of prophecy."
"Ow!" Who I assumed was Bruno bumped his head onto the table from under, then crawled out and sat in his seat. "Good for you, kid. You knew I was hiding under the table." I smiled. "Nice to meet you, too, Bruno," I said. "And last, but certainly not least, we have Abuela Alma, mother of Pepa, Julieta, and Bruno, wife of the deceased Pedro, candle bearer of the family. Sorry for your loss." I hadn't noticed that Abuela was staring at me coldly. "Just Alma, please," she said. "Okay, sorry." I said. Alma didn't say anything.
After dinner, I hung with Mirabel in her room. Camilo came a couple minutes later. He seemed really blushy and flustered, but after like an hour he started getting used to it.
After that, it was time for me to go home. I'd kind of gotten to be good friends with Camilo over the past few hours, so I wasn't surprised when he showed up at the doorway. "Can I walk you home?" he asked. He was kind of pink, but I said sure.
We walked home. we were staring at the stars pretty much the whole time, and it was really dark, so I tripped on a few things, but I managed not to fall. At some point, though, I tripped over a rock, and I would've fallen face first if Camilo hadn't caught me by the waist.
"You okay?" he asked as he set me back up. "Yeah," I said. "Thanks for catching me, though." He blushed.
We arrived at my house a couple minutes after. "Here we are," I said. "Thanks for walking me, Camilo."
"No problem," he said. "I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah," I said. "I'll be at La Casa."
"I'll be waiting for you then, Senorita," he said. He took my hand and kissed it like a gentleman.
I laughed. "See you tomorrow, Camilo," I said.
"See you, Y/N," he said. With that, he started to go back to his house.
