A Picnic
The next day
Y/N's POV
I went to to the Madrigal's Casita as soon as I woke up. When I knocked on the door, Casita opened it for me. The window waved.
"Thanks, Casita," I said. "Where's Mirabel?"
The tiles took me up to Mirabel's room. Inside, she was sewing something, but shoved it under her pillow when I walked in.
"Hola, Y/N," she said. "So, remember our picnic plan?" "Yeah," I said. "I can't go," she said. "Dolores said she has to talk to me. Mama prepared the food, and I made the basket, but maybe you can take someone else? Like Isa or..."
"I can go," said a voice behind us. I turned around to see Camilo. He was blushing.
"Umm, that works," said Mirabel, although her face said the opposite. "If it's okay with Y/N." "I don't mind," I said. "Great," Camilo said, flustered. I turned to Mirabel. "Where's the basket?"

About an hour later, I was sitting with Camilo on one of the Encanto mountains on a blanket, eating arepas and empanadas. I looked down at the town.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Camilo said.
"Yeah," I said.
"I've lived here my whole life," he said. "I've never left the Encanto. What's it like outside?"
"Not as beautiful as this," I said. "I used to live in Mexico, in Spain. It was never this beautiful. Or magical."
Camilo nodded. There seemed to be something bothering him. "You okay?" I asked.
"Huh? Yeah," he said. "It's just... I've never told anyone this before, but sometimes I feel trapped. Abuela's way too overprotective. Sorry about yesterday, by the way."
"For what?" I asked, confused.
"Abuela was being rude, sort of," Camilo said. "Didn't you see the way she just stared at you?" "Yeah, I saw it," I said. "She doesn't like strangers. She doesn't want you to call her Abuela although literally everyone does," he said. "Hm," I said. I hadn't noticed before, but now I recalled a townsperson calling out for Alma to get Luisa to carry him something, and he had called her Abuela. "It's fine, really," I said. "Soon it'll be fine with her. It's okay."
"I hope," said Camilo.
*Time skip*
We got back to the house with some leftover food. We were laughing over a joke Camilo had said while he'd been shapeshifted as Mariano Guzman, which we figured Dolores wouldn't be too happy about.
I was looking at Camilo beside me and retelling the joke, still laughing, when I bumped into- or should I say, Abuela bumped into me. I fell backward, and Camilo caught me by the arms.
Alma didn't stop. She continued going outside, not even saying sorry.
Camilo looked annoyed. He helped me up, again, and once Abuela Alma was out of earshot, he muttered, "Typical Abuela. Not only does she have to hate on new people, she's got to show it, too."
"Camilo, it's okay," I said. I glanced at the leftover empanadas. We'd finished all the arepas, only the empanadas were left. Just then Mirabel came running downstairs.
"Heyyy!" She said, out of breath. "Back so soon?"
"Yeah," I said. Mirabel snatched the basket from me and started eating some of our leftover empanadas. Camilo and I laughed.
"Camilo, Dolores wants to talk to you," Mirabel said between bites. "Y/N, I think you might want to visit Isabela for Dolores and Mariano's engagement. She can pick you an outfit."
"Okay, thanks," I said. "See ya." Mirabel nodded. Her mouth was full of food.
I went off to Isabela's room, and Camilo went to find Dolores in her room.
