We Do Things Our Way

Feels good to have Cry back in the story. And i'm sure there was some of you wondering what was going on with him. Well, now you know. Dude's been on the run for the entire month, finding his way to New York where he was followed by Jiro and her team who're still trying to find and capture him. And Cry just so happened to come across a very interesting group of individuals. Deimos and his crew(shoutout to NicoandHades for creating Deimos btw) are essentially the Guardians of the Galaxy of our story, and will certainly shake things up in the future. Now then, i'm starting to ramble, so i'm just gonna stop talking now so we can move on. Enjoy!

-POV: Cry-

After a less than comfortable sleep, I was woken up by Felix who fucking slapped the top of my face. It made me wake up instantly as I nearly rolled off the couch I was laying on.

"Wakey, wakey." He said to me as he walked over to a table that the others either sat or stood nearby. Konner was cooking up something on a camping stove, and it honestly didn't smell half bad.

"What time is it....?" I moaned as I saw Deimos check a fancy watch he wore on his right wrist.

"About 6:30 in the morning." He answered as I just closed my eyes and sighed.

"Why so early?" I asked them.

"No reason. It's just the earlier we're all up, the more time we get to do our "jobs."" Marnie told me as I got up from the couch and moved my hair out of my eyes. Besides getting my ass handed to me last night, Marnie might as well have used me a her plaything as well since she attempted to treat my wounds. Supposedly, she'd gone to med school before all this. It didn't end well for me, despite the, probably, weeks worth of med studies she had.

"Seriously? Ow..... Marnie, next time, you just let me take care of my own injuries, okay?" I told her as I sat down at the table with them.

"Yeah, cause we saw how well that went for ya. Had a nasty stab wound in your lower left chest, bud. Looked like you tried to cauterize it." She said to me as I just leaned back in my chair.

"That's because I did. Crazy hero bitch impaled herself to stab me. Then, I land on top of a car and get glass shards all up in my back. You try dealing with all that. Burning it all shut was my best option." I told them as Konner brought over 5 plates of eggs and bacon.

"C'était incroyable de voir que la plaie n'était pas infectée." Konner said as Deimos shot him a look.  "You guys really need to learn how to understand French, okay? What I said was, "It was amazing to see that wound infected.""

"Yeah, no kidding. You're a lucky bastard is what you are." Felix said to me as he closed his left eye and then placed his right hand in his food. The clock dial in his right eye began to turn counter clockwise and we could see his food began to produce more steam and heat.

"So, what kind of quirk is that then?" I asked him as I took a bite out of my eggs.

"It's called "Pinpoint Clockwork." I can rewind or fast forward any non-living object i'm touching for however long I want it  to be affected. Right eye controls minutes, left eye is hours. My food wasn't as hot as I wanted it to be. Sorry, Konner." Felix explained as Konner just rolled his eyes at him.

"Guess if you're staying here then I don't see why you shouldn't know our quirks as well. Mine is called "Muscle Vision." When I focus my eyes, I can see through a person's skin and view their muscles. I see how they move and react and it can help me predict movements. Plus, it helps me when i'm doing surgery." Marnie explained to me as, in the back of my mind, I felt like she wasn't using her quirk last night on me.

"Mine is "Blind Strength." It's simple, actually. When I have my eyes shut, my physical strength increases by over 100x. I can lift well over 3 tons and punch through stone pretty easily." Konner explained to me.

"Guess that leaves me for show and tell, then. My quirk is pretty much what got me into all this messy shit in the first place. It's simply called "Fear." My just looking at a person, I can make them experience some of their deepest fears they've ever had, or even witness painful memories that sparked said fear." Deimos explained as he took a sip from a coffee mug.

"And how exactly does that explain your freakish strength then? Not possible for a quirk like that to give you enhanced physical power." I asked him as he chuckled a bit.

"No, no it doesn't. When my quirk manifested when I was, maybe about 3 years old, it honestly drove my parents and entire neighbourhood mad. My parents then decided to just up and get rid of me, so they literally sold my ass to some research institute. Spent a decade working there, and I turned into their prized test subject. Wanted to turn me into like a real life Captain America, a super soldier." Deimos told me, sounding totally casual about it, not serious at all.

"So, what did they do to you then?" I asked him as he flexed his right arm.

"Ever wanted to know what a person would be like if they were injected with every steroid known to man, and didn't die? Well, you get me. I can bench press a freakin' 8 ton dump truck." Deimos said, bragging how he basically had two quirks, even though he had only one.

"Parents were fed up with my actions at hero school so they shipped me off to military school instead. I got the fuck out of there, but knowing my parents, they sent me there because they didn't care 'bout me anymore. So, I said "fuck 'em," and now here I am." Felix explained to me.

"Went to hero school as well, but my mother was disappointed in my performance there and literally disowned me. You get three guesses as to why I had troubles at school." Konner told me as I already knew he meant his French tongue.

"Already told you I went to med school. Well, that was short lived, only about 2 or 3 weeks. Turns out, despite the fact I can see inside a person, I have pretty shaky hands and ended up.... well.... taking a life. Got expelled from the University, parents said they didn't want to see me again, you get the picture. Honestly, i'm shocked I wasn't arrested for killing the patient." Marnie told me as I see now how she did such terrible work on me last night.

"I really do feel bad for you all. You've all suffered so much in your lives. And here I am, I barely even know who I am." I said as the four of them all gave quick glances to each other. It was suspicious to say the least. But before I could ask, a nearby radio that they had set up began to produce static.

"Shit, hang on..." Deimos said as he rushed over and turned the dials on the radio to get a clearer signal.

"What the heck's he trying to do with that thing, find a station for music?" I asked as Felix shook his head.

"That's an old police radio we found one night. I used my quirk to fix it up and now we can listen to calls that the police make. It's how we know when there's stuff for us to do in this city." He told me as Deimos found the right frequency.

"....I repeat, we have reports of a fire on 49th. 5 story, residents from the 3rd floor and below have escaped, and all above are still trapped. Firefighters and heroes on their way." The officer over the radio said as the call cut out.

"Alright, time to get moving. That means you too, Cry." Deimos said as all four of them got up and walked over to a cabinet.

"Wait, you're actually going out to stop this fire? No offense, but none of you have quirks that are suited to stop it." I said to them as they all seemed to sigh before turning back to face me.

"Look, we all live for that hero life high. We know we can't stop the damn fire, but that doesn't mean we can't save the people still trapped inside. Now come on. We're heading out. You need to get ready." Marnie said as I got up too and walked over to this cabinet as well. Inside there were a bunch of homemade masks, some made of black cloth and others made from more sturdy materials. Deimos took one of the black cloth masks and put it over his eyes, and even grabbed a clean looking black and gold cane. Everyone else just took a mask, the same with me as I took one that was literally just half a mask. It covered up my entire right side, minus my eye, which would help since it didn't reveal my handprint scar. Makes it harder for people to potentially recognize me.

"Cry, how far a range you got with those portal thingy's?" Konner asked me.

"I don't know, a couple hundred miles if I know where i'm going, I guess." I replied as Felix pulled out his phone, opened Google Maps and entered the location we heard about.

"Think you can take us there?" He said to me, showing off the coordinates on his phone as I went to activate my quirk.

"No guarantees, but i'll give it a shot." I told them all as a portal opened up in front of us all.

"Man, i'd kill just for this kind of power." Marnie said as we all walked through. It seemed my portal accuracy was pretty on point considering we came out across the street from the burning building in an alleyway.

"Looks like there's no heroes or firefighters here yet! We've got time, let's move!" Deimos said as the four of them ran for the building, me following closely behind. As we heard on the radio, the first three floors had evacuated, and that became clear as there was a bunch of people standing outside the building some distance away, most likely the residents. We could hear the screams of the people trapped inside on the upper floors, and the fire had spread to the whole building now, from the ground floor up.

"Konner, stay at the base in case there's a collapse! We'll head inside!" Marnie told him as Konner nodded before running to the front right corner of the building. He closed his eyes and easily dug his fingers into the solid brick, holding the building steady in case it gave way on us. Meanwhile, Deimos broke down the front door and we all entered into the raging inferno.

"Everyone spread out! Be careful, keep your eyes open at all times, this place could go down at any moment! Find whoever you can and get them the fuck out of here!" Deimos ordered as everyone went their own separate ways, me and Marnie heading upstairs while Felix and Deimos stayed on the bottom and basement levels.

"You see anyone on your side!?" Marnie shouted to me but with all the smoke in the building, it was really hard to see anything.

"No, I've got nothing! I'm heading up to the third floor!" I shouted to her.

"I'll be up shortly, I've got one more room to check in here!" She relied as I found the stairs up to the net floor. Once again, I searched around but couldn't find a single person.

"Hello!? Anyone in here!?" I shouted as I heard some screams from up above me. "Just hang on, i'll be there shortly!"

I found my way to the next set of stairs and climbed them, making my way up to the 4th floor where there was a lot more fire.

"Where are you!?" I shouted out as I waited for more screams.

"We're over here! We're trapped in this room!" I heard a woman yell from my right as I looked and saw a closed door. I got close, avoiding some nearby flames as I went to kick the door down. But it didn't budge at all.

"Alright, new plan. I'm gonna blast down this door! Stand as far away as possible and don't stand directly in line with it!" I shouted, hoping they could hear my instructions.

"Okay! We're out of the way, now do it!" I heard the woman shout as I activated my quirk, my veins glowing purple as I fired a blast of energy from my diamond arm, blowing down the door as I rushed inside. I looked off into the far right corner of the room and saw a mother and who I assumed to be her very young son in her arms.

"Come on, i'm here to get you out of here!" I told them as the mother reached out and took my hand. I got us safely out of the room just as the ceiling in it collapsed, but as I went to take us over to the stairs, another part of the ceiling collapsed down in front of it and blocked our escape.

"Shit! HEY, MARNIE!!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.

"YEAH, I HEAR YA!!" I heard her respond from the next floor below.

"I'M RIGHT ABOVE YOU, JUST PAST THE STAIRCASR TO THE 4TH FLOOR! THE CEILING COLLAPSED AT THE TOP, I CAN'T GET THESE PEOPLE DOWN TO YOU THAT WAY!! GET BELOW US, I'M GONNA BLOW A HOLE IN THE FLOOR AND LOWER THEM DOWN TO YOU!" I yelled as I blasted a hole in the floor, large enough for me to send people down. And when I saw Marnie through the hole, I knew she was ready to receive people.

"Alright, I need both of you to be very still, okay?" I said to the mother and her child as they both gave me nods. I then used my quirk to lower the gravity around their bodies and I picked them up and held them over the hole. I then gently pushed them down through it until Marnie had a good grasp on them, then I deactivated my quirk.

"Wait, before you take them, Marnie, is there anyone else you know of that could be on this floor!?" I shouted down to them.

"No, we were the only ones on our floor. But there's at least one other person on the top floor! Please, you must save them!" The mother said before Marnie took them away to safety, hopefully. I however, went and found the next set of stairs up to the 5th floor. This is where I assumed the fire originated since this is where it was raging the most.

"HELLO!? CAN ANYONE HEAR ME!? I'M HERE TO SAVE YOU!!" I roared through the flames as I heard someone crying. It sounded like a little girl.

"Please, i'm stuck! I'm over here!" I heard the girl scream as I looked to my left and saw her laying on the floor, a wooden beam overtop her legs which was beginning to catch fire. A small dog stood next to her, looking like it was actually trying to pull her out from under the beam, but it was clearly too weak. A wall of fire separated us, and I could hear the ceiling start to crack from all the flames. I was quickly running out of time.

"All this fire and smoke, the heat's making it hard to focus. Don't know if I can make a portal over there...." I thought as I just said "fuck it" and dashed forward. "Hold on, i'm coming!"

I dove through the fire, exiting it quickly as I landed on my side near the girl. I patted down some of the flames on my jacket before getting up and grasping onto the wooden beam trapping the girl. The fire on it was spreading quickly, so I had to act fast before it caught the little girl.

"Alright, when I lift this, you're gonna crawl out, okay?" I told her as she gave me a nod. I then used all my might to lift up this heavy wooden beam. It wasn't much but it was enough to allow this girl to slip out, letting me drop it down. I then picked up the girl and her dog, holding both in my arms as I watched our quickest way to exit become blocked. Not only did part of the ceiling collapse where the stairs were, the stairs themselves gave way and collapsed. I looked around frantically, hearing the ceiling crack more and more as I knew it was about to give way. I had no clear options to escape, but my eyes caught one way that was pretty risky. The window.

"Alright, you hang onto me as tight as you can, you hear me? Whatever you do, don't let go." I said as the girl tightened her grip on my chest and shirt, while I did the same to her and her dog. I started running straight for the window, knowing i'd have to think and act as fast as possible for us to get out of this without injury. And, as we neared the window, the girl tucked her head into me as I ducked my head and jumped right through it. We started falling straight down towards the street, but as I raised my head back up, I tried activating my quirk and focused as hard as possible.

"Enviro Shift: Water!" I shouted as a small circular area in the street, about 10ft in diameter, changed from solid concrete to a pool of water. We crashed down into it, and avoided a rough landing as the building we were just in totally collapsed.

"Hey, he's over here!" I heard Felix shout when I came up for air. My friends pulled me, the girl and the dog out of the water as I changed it back to normal. "Dude, you alright? We thought you weren't gonna make it out.

"Yeah..... yeah, i'm good..... how's the..... how's the little girl....?" I asked them, completely out of breath as I laid on the ground, panting for dear lift. Konner raised up my head and I saw a woman holding the little girl and the dog in her arms now.

"You did good, Cry. You did good. Now then...." Deimos said as he patted my back before he went over to the crowd of people, took the mother I had saved away from them all and then into a nearby alleyway. Marnie and the others followed him as I got up too to see what the heck he was doing.

"We honestly cannot thank you all enough for what you've done today. And you're all so young as well. You'll all be amazing heroes one d-" The mother tried to say as Deimos shut her up by putting his right hand over her mouth.

"Yeah, yeah, we've heard it before, but let's cut to the chase. Since we were so gracious as to save you all, we want you to break even with us, okay? So pay up, lady. What do ya got?" Deimos said as I was honestly a little stunned. I thought heroes saved people and were supposed to ask for nothing in return?

"Wait, what? But... but I don't.... I don't understand, what are you saying?" The mother asked as Deimos rolled his eyes, sighed, and then pulled out his knife and cane.

"No, I think you do understand. It's simple, really. We save you, so you owe us. So, hand over whatever you've got, or else we'll take whatever you've got." He threatened her as the mother looked completely terrified.

"But.... But I wasn't able to grab any of my valuables in the fire, I have nothing! So please, just let me go!" She begged but none of them were giving up on her.

"Well, I did find this in the mailboxes on the ground floor. You're from the 4th floor, right? How's about you give us this thing?" Felix asked as he held up a box for some service bot thingy.

"Wait, that thing? But I just bought last night..." The mother said as Deimos brandished his knife again.

"Well, if it's all you've got, then it's all we can take. Otherwise, we can put you into a worse situation than you were just in." Konner threatened as the mother held up her hands, started to cry and then nodded to us.

"Fine, just take it! Take it and leave! I thought you were heroes, but you're all nothing but thieves!" The mother shouted to us as Deimos put away his weapons and backed off.

"Well alright then. Looks like we're done here. Thank you for your time, ma'am...." He said to her as we could hear the firetrucks horns blaring in the distance. "And that's our cue to hightail it out of here. Come on, let's go!"

All 5 of us left the scene, with me making a portal to take us back to the steel mill. The others seemed proud of their accomplishments, and their haul they acquired today. I felt good about saving those people as well, but seeing what it all turned into.... it made me feel sick to my core.

"Something wrong, man?" Felix asked me as he gave the service bot box over to Deimos and Konner, who proceeded to open it.

"No.... what we did.... we saved all those people.... but then we took all they had.... How can we.... call ourselves heroes....?" I questioned as Felix just rolled his eyes.

"Great, an emotional one. Look, just learn to ignore this crappy feeling you're experiencing. You'll see it works out for us and them in the end. I'm sure those people had insurance anyways, they're fine. And now we don't have to worry about cleaning ever again thanks to our new toy." Felix replied as I looked over to see Marnie was now helping with the service bot, tinkering with its wires a bit.

"This should just about..... got it! It should turn on now, give it a shot." She said as, with the press of a button on a remote, the service bot turned on, its centre eye lighting up as it began to move around the room, cleaning up any messes it found like dust piles and things like that.

"This is great! Saved like $300 on this thing and now we never have to clean up our shit ever again. This is the start of the easy life, people. Get used to it, because tonight, we freakin' party!" Deimos declared as the others cheered with him. I was unsure at first, but if I wanted to stay here, then i'd have to adjust to everything they did as well. So, eventually, I cheered as well. After all, these people are my new friends. My new family. They're all I have in this world.

-POV: Third Person- -LOVTech HQ-

After a very busy morning of paperwork and doing commercials, Victor Stroman was surprised when he received an emergency call from the monitoring room at headquarters. He went down from his office to the monitor room, adjusting his suit and hair along the way, expecting whatever the hell was happening to be important.

"Alright, what the hell is going on?" Stroman asked, coming into the room as one of the workers frantically got up from his chair and ran over to his boss.

"Sir, you have to see this! You won't believe it!" The worker said, bringing Stroman over to his station.

"Jeez, would you just tell me what's going on already? I had to leave a commercial shooting for this, you know." Stroman said.

"I'll try and be brief, sir. About 10 minutes ago, another one of our service bots went online. Here's the footage it's captured already...." The worker said as he played through the footage the bot had acquired already. It showed off the innards of the steel mill, eventually showing Deimos and his friends.

"Am I supposed to know these people? How is this such a big emergency?" Stroman asked as the footage was fast forwarded.

"No, just wait! Look at this!" The worker replied as he paused the footage. On his screen, Cry was in clear view. Stroman nearly dropped the coffee that he had in his right hand as he brought himself up close to the screen, looking at the boy who ended the first reign of the League of Villains.

"Now I understand why this was so urgent. Thank you. And now, there's nowhere for you to hide, Tenshonoma Cryshiki." Stroman said as he poked at Cry's face on the screen.

"I see you..... I see you...."
