"Almost a bullseye!" I praised my lady in waiting, Tsuyu Asui. Together we'd often be out in the large gardens of the castle, practicing our archery. I was lucky enough to be born a princess of the kingdom (y/k/n), my father and mother being the king and queen. Father was an amazing king to his people, and everyone in the kingdom loved having us as their royal family and leaders which made me feel quite special. He was kind and took care of the poorer people in (y/k/n), unlike the king who ruled the kingdom next to us.
Enji Todoroki was ruthless and controlling. He didn't seem to care about the poorer citizens of his kingdom, Ignis, and he definitely made sure everyone knew that he was their ruler, making them bow down to him whenever he and his son passed. Annoyingly at royal gatherings, King Todoroki would always make sure everyone knew he was there by acting boisterous and arrogant. His son, Shoto, seemed a lot more quieter than his father, and always made sure that whenever he could he was away from his father, which interested me. I did have a feeling however that Shoto, once he gained the title of king, would become exactly like his father.
Tsuyu shot another arrow at the target and again almost hit a bullseye. We were interrupted a moment later by one of the female servants, who politely made us aware of her presence. "Princess (y/n), you have a visitor at the main gate."
"Really? Who?" I asked.
"Izuku Midoriya," she replied, bowing. I looked excitedly to Tsuyu.
"Great! Thank you," I said to Kurahashi, the servant. Tsuyu and I made our way towards the main gate, then seeing Izuku, a close friend of mine who lived in the woods between Ignis and (y/k/n), with his mother. He often came to visit, and every time he did the three of us always had fun in the large castle gardens. "Izuku!" I called his name loudly. As soon as I shouted out his name he turned and beamed, the guards then letting him through.
"(y/n)! Tsuyu! It's great to see you both again!" He exclaimed, running and hugging the pair of us. It had been a while since his last visit, so we had a lot to catch up on. We all headed back to the gardens where Tsuyu and I were practicing archery, Midoriya joining in too.
"So, how have you been? I haven't seen you in a while," I said, raising my bow towards the target.
"I've been good, I've actually been seeing a lot of Prince Todoroki, against his fathers wishes but we still meet up," Izuku said, exchanging knowing glances with Tsuyu. I shot my arrow, it landing directly on the bullseye. "Great shot!" He complimented as I handed him the arrow.
"Prince Todoroki... he's an interesting character," I said, watching Izuku line up his shot. "I bet he'll end up like his horrible father when he finally takes the throne."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that, I mean, when I've met him he seems nice enough," Tsuyu commented. I simply hummed in response.
"He is, he's nothing like his father," Izuku took the shot and got it in the yellow ring. He still needed some archery practice. "He's a lot more down to Earth. A part of me wonders if he even wants the throne."
"He's an only child though isn't he?" I asked and the two nodded. "Well I guess the few times I've spoken to him he's seemed okay... his father just really puts me off," I admitted, sighing.
"That's understandable," Izuku laughed, lining up his next shot. I thought about Prince Shoto, wondering what he was really like and if he was the calm and collected man Izuku described him to be or if he was hiding his controlling and power-lusting demeanour.
"Princess (y/n)! The king and queen would like to see you!" Kurahashi called over to the three of us.
"Yes of course! You two can stay out here and practice, you definitely need it," I giggled at Izuku who's face turned sour. "I'll be back in a little while!" I followed Kurahashi inside towards the thrown room to find my parents talking to one another.
"Ah! (y/n)," father said in a welcoming manner. "We've got some news for you. King Todoroki of Ignis will be holding a ball this coming week, we have just received our invitations. We have been sent four however, so the queen and I thought you might like to bring your Lady in Waiting, Tsuyu," my father said and I beamed brightly.
"Thank you father!" I ran up to him and hugged him, it admittedly not being princess etiquette but I didn't care. "It does surprise me that King Todoroki is hosting something like this though," I admitted and my parents nodded in agreement.
"It surprised us too, but we will attend in case King Todoroki needs to make an important announcement that will affect (y/k/n). Now hurry along and speak to Tsuyu about the matter," my mother said and I nodded, quickly bowing before I left towards the gardens again. As I walked towards my two best friends I saw them whispering between each other.
"What are you two talking about?" I called over to them but they quickly parted.
"Nothing!" They both said in unison making me furrow my eyebrows, but I didn't press on it. I told them both about the ball, apologising to Midoriya about him not getting an invite but he didn't seem to mind. Tsuyu on the other hand already seemed very excited, and once Midoriya had left to go home we went to visit the royal families personal tailors.
- Timeskip - - Night of the Gathering -
Tsuyu and I were all dressed up for the occasion, wearing long elegant dresses that the royal tailor had sewn especially for us. Tsuyu's was green around the bodice with a gold lining, the large skirt being both white and green. My dress was mainly white, but the bodice had delicate blue and gold detailing which ran down a little bit of the skirt, slowly fading out to white. Tsuyu seemed quite eager for me to wear blue to this event, but she said the colour suited me so I went ahead with her wishes.
The carriage ride was long, and when we reached the Todoroki castle the sun was setting. Our driver pulled up outside the large and intimidating castle entrance, and together Tsu and I entered, followed closely by my parents. The guards on the doors bowed to us as we entered, and we were taken through to a great hall filled with other high end people dressed in extravagant outfits.
Suddenly, and rather surprisingly, I spotted Izuku through the crowd. I clutched onto Tsu's hand and together we made our way through the people and towards our friend. "Izuku!" I called when we were close enough.
"(y/n)! Tsuyu!" He said excitedly as he saw us approaching.
"How come you're here?" I asked, still shocked.
"Well, Todoroki invited me," he said, gesturing the man standing next to him. I had remembered the fact that Prince Todoroki was attractive, but it didn't stop me blushing when I saw him. What made me blush even more was the fact he was already staring at me. Not only that but he was wearing a blue and gold tunic with a white collar; I had a feeling that this was the reason Tsu was desperate for me to wear this dress.
"Hello Princess (l/n)," he said in his deep voice, bowing a little.
"Hello Prince Todoroki," I smiled politely. Tsu and Izuku delved deep into conversation, both Todoroki and I standing beside them, simply listening. I caught his eye a few times as his glances over to me were not subtle. Annoyingly however my mother came and whisked me away, telling me that I needed to speak and meet others in the hall to broaden my connections.
As I followed my parents around the hall, everyone I met seemed nice enough but I wanted to be back over with Tsu, Izuku and Shoto. I had thought about what Izuku had told me last week, and had decided that instead of assuming his personality, I should actually talk to him and try to get him to open up. Still I noticed Todoroki was still sending me glances, and I noticed the three of them talking. Izuku seemed to be teasing Todoroki judging my their body contact; the nudging of the arm and the playful smirks.
I tried for a moment to take my mind off of my friends by focussing on those I was meeting, but I had soon gotten bored. Thankfully after another ten minutes I was freed from my mothers grasp and went immediately back to Tsu, however she was nowhere to be seen. As I glanced around the ballroom I had noticed that both she and Izuku had left Todoroki standing on his own. I furrowed my eyebrows and went over to him, hoping he'd be able to tell me their whereabouts. "Todoroki," I voiced my presence, him turning and presenting an ever so slight smile. "Do you know where Tsuyu has gone?"
"Oh, yes, she and Midoriya are dancing," he said, gesturing the floor. Many couples were dancing traditional dances, and amongst them was Tsuyu and Izuku. I smiled at the pair of them. "I'm glad you could make it here tonight," the prince suddenly said, catching me off guard.
"Really? Why?" I asked.
"Well, I wanted to get the opportunity to get to know you. We're neighboured kingdoms and I've never had the pleasure to properly speak with you. It's why a fourth ticket was sent to you, as I thought you might not come unless you had a friend with you," he said, surprising me.
"O-oh... well, thank you... I-I guess we haven't really spoken too much, have we?" I said timidly, twiddling with my fingers. He simply smiled again making me blush a little, and from there we started our first proper conversation. At first it felt a little awkward talking to him, as neither of us really knew what to say, but once we crossed the awkward phase it just felt right. He was beginning to open up to me, and I was to him, and slowly the two of us began etching towards each other subtly.
"(y/n), would you care for a dance?" He asked suddenly, catching me by complete surprise.
"Really? You don't strike me as the dancing type," I admitted.
"I'm not usually... but I can make exceptions," he said, holding out his arm. I happily took it as we joined the rest of the couples dancing the same dance in a row. We twirled around, him locking eyes with me, refusing t look anywhere else. His features intrigued me, I loved his heterochromatic eyes and his beautiful dually coloured hair. I was intrigued by his burn over his left eye, but I figured it was something personal so I didn't ask.
We stepped closer and closer to each other as we danced, and excitement ran through my body. I realised then that everything I had previously thought about this prince was a lie. He was kind, caring, beautiful and the complete opposite of his unbearable father.
The orchestra ended their song quicker then I would've liked, and the prince and I were so close our bodies were pressed against each other. The world around us had vanished as our faces were close, and we were only brought back to reality when everyone started clapping the musicians. We stepped away from each other quickly, joining in the clapping before walking back to the outskirts of the grand hall.
There was a little bit of silence between us, both of us apparently waiting for the other to speak. Thankfully Prince Todoroki broke the ice. "I've never been a fan of gatherings like this, I always feel as though the room becomes to hot and stuffy," he said, pulling at his white collar.
"I can understand that, there are quite a lot of people," I pointed out the obvious.
"Why don't I show you around the castle?" He offered, catching me off guard. "It'll give us a break from being in here," he added.
"Y-yes, I'd like that Prince Todoroki," I said timidly.
"Just Shoto, please," he said softly and I nodded. Discreetly we slipped away, and walked down a wide corridor leading away from the ballroom, the heat of the room immediately vanishing. We were silent as we walked through the corridors, but the intricate interior design was catching my attention. "Is there any part of the castle you want to see in particular?" He asked.
'Would saying 'your room' be appropriate? Probably not,' I thought quickly to myself. "U-um, well, I'm always intrigued by gardens," I admitted.
"Great, the balcony in my quarters has an excellent view," he said and I squeaked in nervousness. He led me through the elegant hallways, pointing out the occasional painting and telling me facts about it, me hanging onto his every word. "Oh, here we are," he said, nudging towards two large intimidating doors. He pushed them opened to reveal his quarters, an incredibly large room with a big four poster bed sat in the middle of it. Around the room there were desks, small tables and armoires, all consistently decorated. I noticed that the long wall length windows also acted as doors, and he went to push them open.
He held out his hand for me to take which I happily did, and he led me out onto his balcony. Indeed he was right, the view of the castle grounds from here was spectacular. There were many many elegant fountains spitting clear water, and there were hundreds of hedges sculpted into animals. The garden seemed endless as thick hedges ran their way all around the grounds. "Wow, it's beautiful!" I couldn't help but say.
"Yes, it is. I come out here a lot when I need to get away from... things," he mumbled next to me, leaning against the stone railings.
"'Get away from things'?" I quoted him cautiously.
"Just when I need to get away from being royal. It's frustrating, my father manages to anger me by doing or saying the simplest of things," Shoto sighed. "Sorry, you don't need to hear a sob story."
"It's alright, you can talk to me," I whispered, clutching onto his hand. He looked at me with surprise before his face softened.
"You know you've always intrigued me," he suddenly said and I tilted my head in confusion. "Whenever we've attended parties and gatherings like this, you've always caught my eye. Each time I wondered whether I ought to have properly introduced myself, but I didn't want to burden you with me."
"Burden? Why would you be a burden?" I mumbled.
"Well, just my father, he tends to leave quite the impression," Shoto said with a sigh. Guilt then filled my body as I was one to judge him based on his father.
"You know, you've always intrigued me as well," I admitted and he looked at me with curiosity. "I had always wondered what you were truly like. After all, you didn't seem like your father when I saw you from afar, and tonight you've proven that."
He smiled sweetly at me, which I returned. My heart was pounding as I looked into his gorgeous eyes. He stepped closer to me a little bit, a gust of wind moving his hair slightly as he stared down at me. "You look beautiful tonight... you always look beautiful," he whispered. I gulped as he brought a hand up to brush some loose strands of hair behind my ear. "And I've been debating whether to do something all night..."
"I think you should do it," I whispered back, hypnotised by his eyes. Like magnets we pressed our bodies against each others, our lips meeting in a passionate yet loving kiss. He cupped my cheeks delicately as I rested my hands on his chest. His lips were warm and gentle as they moved against mine, my heart was fluttering like crazy as our mouths started to open. For our first kiss however, we didn't want to get carried away, so we pulled apart but he wrapped his arms around my waist, refusing to let go of me.
Our foreheads were pressed together as we just stayed in this moment for a while. It was romantic, caring and beautiful, and I wanted this moment to last forever. "(y/n), will you be my princess?"
"Yes, yes of course," I beamed, my eyes fluttering open to look into his blue and grey ones. "Will you be my prince?"
"Forever," he smiled his adorable smile before pulling me back in for another sweet and romantic kiss.
