2: The Nurse
Note: I was desperate to post so I just finished this one. As it's midnight in Britain, I apologise if their are any mistakes due to my tiredness. I did proof read, but like I said, I am quite tired. My motivation to post however kept me going, so I hope it's alright and that you enjoy!
Quirk: Healing Hands
I wanted to be a hero, but not the fighting villains type, I wanted to become a nurse. I wanted to care for people and heal people, and my enthusiasm for the job got me an internship at the local city hospital. For the past few months I had been working with the patients that had to live in the hospital due to unstable minds. One patient I was caring for however didn't seem mentally unstable at all, in fact it was quite the opposite. She was kind, calm, loving and always a delight to talk to. I enjoyed the days I would get to care for Rei Todoroki.
It was late afternoon when my shift started. I said goodbye to Kurahashi who was on duty before me, and she handed me a clipboard with all of Rei's information on for that day: what she ate, if she had been outside etc. One thing that caught my eye however was that the visitors box was ticked. Underneath it was written the name Shoto Todoroki. Rei never had visitors, apart from when she was first put under care here at the hospital and apparently had her daughter Fuyumi visit. I was told that family problems then prevented her daughter from coming.
"Knock knock!" I called through the door, as well as actually knocking.
"Come in," her soft voice said on the other side of the door.
"Hello Rei! How have you been?" I asked as I entered her room.
"I've been well today thank you, how have you been? How was school?" She asked. This was one of the many reasons I loved her, she was always so polite and showed a constant interest in those who looked after her.
"It was great thanks! So it looks like your son came to visit you," I observed and she nodded.
"Indeed. He's so grown up now," she mumbled, looking over to a family picture she had on her desk. It was one of the only decorative things she had in her room. She picked it up and ghosted her hands over the image of her family, particularly over the little boy with half red and half white hair. "I missed him."
"I understand Rei," I said softly, sitting beside her. She talked about Shoto with much love, and she watched the UA Sports Festival with great interest. She carried on talking about her son, telling me what he had told her about how he was getting on at UA, and how he had been since he had last seen her, when he was five. Her happiness radiated onto me as she smiled brightly. "I haven't seen you like this in a while, Rei," I pointed out, coming back into her room with a tray full of food for her.
"Sorry, I've been rambling on for a while haven't I," she laughed lightly.
"No, don't apologise! I love hearing you like this," I smiled.
"You're such a sweet girl, (y/n)," Rei said making me blush. Before long my shift was over, and I waved goodbye to Rei as I signed out and headed home. I was so glad she was happy, and I hoped that happiness would stay. She definitely deserves to be happy after her awful marriage.

It had been a fortnight since Shoto Todoroki's first visit, and according to Rei's information clipboard, he had visited every day since. I really wanted to meet her son, however our paths never seemed to cross. His visits never seemed to coincide with my shifts, which annoyed me slightly. That was until today.
I was walking down the corridor heading towards Rei's room in order to do some checks on her, when suddenly her door opened and out stepped an unbelievably handsome boy. "Bye mum, see you tomorrow," his deep voice sounded. I realised I had stopped walking and was just staring at him. He noticed me just as he was about to shut the door, and I internally screamed at myself to stop staring. "Are you (y/n)?" He asked.
I shook my head out of its trance. "Yes, that's me," I smiled slightly.
"Thanks for looking after my mum, she says your the best nurse here," Shoto said and I blushed.
"R-really?"
"(y/n)? Is that you?" I heard Rei ask, and before I knew it she was at the door. "(y/n), this is my son, Shoto."
"Pleasure to meet you," I said, trying not to stare at him.
"Likewise. Anyway, see you tomorrow mum," he waved as he walked off down the corridor. I tried to settle my blush as I watched him walk away.
"(y/n)?" Rei shook me form my trance.
"S-sorry!" I squealed, hoping she didn't notice me staring at her son but by the way she was suggestively smiling, I could tell she had. "So... just the daily checks," I said as we both walked back into the room. We sat on her bed as I wrapped the velcro strap around her arm and put in the ear piece. "So... was it a good visit from your son?" I asked and she smiled again.
"Indeed. It's a shame he had to leave, I think the two of you would get along very well," she said. "And you can call him Shoto, you know."
It was a good thing it wasn't my heartbeat being read, otherwise the scale would break. I pumped the ball, tightening the strap around her arm. "He seems nice," I mumbled.
"He is indeed. Tomorrow you ought to come along and meet him just before your shift starts. I'm sure he'd love that," she said sweetly.
"H-huh?" I said as I deflated the velcro band and took it off of her.
"He was quite concerned with how the doctors and nurses had been treating me, so I told him of you and he seemed intrigued. Perhaps you could tell him tomorrow of how you've been helping me?" She suggested with a mischievous glint in her eye.
"E-er, okay, if you think it'd help," I mumbled awkwardly.

The next day I went straight from school to the hospital, with my nurse uniform stuffed into my bag. When I arrived I was greeted by surprised colleagues, but I simply told them I was there to visit Rei before my shift began. I approached her room and knocked gently, and her calm voice called out for me to come in. As I slid the door open I spotted her handsome son already in the room, sat on one of the stools and drinking strawberry milk from a carton. I smiled and blushed, perhaps staring at him a little longer then I should've but thankfully he smiled back, even if it was small and ever so slight.
I sat on the bed next to Rei as we all exchanged greetings. "Thank you (y/n) for taking care of my mother so well. She's told me all about how you've helped her," Shoto said in his deep voice.
"No problem, it's what I do," I smiled.
"That uniform... are you from the high school down the road from UA?" He asked curiously.
"Yes I am, the work here at the hospital is just an internship but I dream to be an official nurse when I'm older, like my grandma. She works at UA actually, Recovery Girl," I told him and his eyes widened in surprise.
"Your grandma is Recovery Girl?" He asked, apparently surprised. I just nodded. "How come you didn't apply for UA then?"
"Oh, because I didn't really want to become a hero that fought crime. Myself and my quirk belong in a hospital, hopefully saving the lives of the sick or the injured," I told him.
"That's admirable, (y/n)," he said, with a pink hue to his cheeks.
"R-really?"
"Yeah, I think so," he mumbled.
"I think so too," Rei piped up, looking from her son to me then back again, the same mischievous glint in her eye. "How was school today, Shoto?"
"Aizawa had us practicing the tests he put us through at the start of the year, the timed run and the strength exercises etc. Nothing too interesting happened," he shrugged his shoulders.
"What about you (y/n)?" She asked.
"To be fair, not much happened at my school either. Nothing ever happens in comparison to UA," I smiled at Shoto. We spent the next hour with him telling us about life at his school, and it all sounded amazing: being taught by Pro Heroes and training in such awesome facilities. I didn't want to admit it, but I was a tiny bit jealous. The time passed so quickly and Rei was right, we did seem to get on very well, but before I knew it it was time for my shift to start. "Sorry, I have to go, I will be back though to do the daily checks," I said, getting up and picking up my rucksack.
"I should probably go too mum, curfew in the dorms is in an hour," Shoto said, checking his phone.
"Of course dear, I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked, hopeful.
"Definitely," he said and they shared a sweet hug. Both Shoto and I stepped out of the room and Rei slid the door close behind us. "So, will I see you tomorrow too?"
"Yes, you will," I smiled timidly.
"Great," he said with sincerity. We both shared a look, before he slightly shook his head and bade me one final goodbye. I watched him walk away and out of sight, unable to hide the blush on my cheeks. Rei's door slid open again, and she sent me a knowing look.
"I told you you'd get on," she said with a troublesome smirk. I rolled my eyes and she laughed.
"I'll be back to do your checks," I said as I walked away.
The days continued like that, me coming into the hospital early to see Shoto as well as spending casual time with Rei. Their relationship was so sweet, it was almost as if the time they spent apart didn't exist at all, as they seemed so comfortable in each others presence. Shoto seemed keen to talk to me as well, asking me questions about my life and what it was like to work in a hospital. I assured him that it was nothing in comparison to being a student at UA, and he told us of the adventures he had and the friends he had made. Everyday I looked forward to the couple of hours we'd see each other, and one day Rei's daughter Fuyumi even came along. I got on well with her too, and the more I spent time with them, the more I fell in love with the Todoroki family.

Two weeks had passed since the first time I hung out with Shoto in Rei's room. I had to excuse myself from them as I had to start my shift, so I changed into my uniform, collected the supplies for the daily checks and headed back towards Rei's room. Just as I was about to slide open the door I heard Rei say my name.
"Shoto I really do think you should ask her. I've known (y/n) for a while now and I know how she acts around people. She does seem interested in you," Rei had said.
"What if she says no?" Shoto's voice sounded.
"Honey she won't say no to a date," Rei said. My eyes widened and my heart thumped harder and harder. "Trust me Shoto." There was silence on the other side of the door.
"Okay, okay, I'll try it," Shoto said. "Although I don't know when I'll ask her. I need to head back to the dorms now mum, I'll see you tomorrow." Too quickly the door slid open and I was face to face with a now blushing Shoto. He subconsciously slid the door shut behind him, blocking Rei's view of the pair of us. "Hi (y/n)," he said simply.
"Hi Shoto," I replied. There was a still silence between us, the only sound I could hear was the pounding of my heart.
"So... I was wondering if... maybe... you'd- er- want to... go out, on a date? W-with me?" He mumbled, looking down. I hadn't seen him this nervous before and it definitely made him cuter then he already was. "I-I mean you don't have to if you don't want to-,"
"I'd love to, Shoto," I whispered, smiling. "Shall we say this Saturday?"
"Yeah... I'll pick you up from your house," he said, still slightly timid. I wrote my address down for him on his phone, as well as adding my number. "See you," he nodded.
"See you," I replied. He turned around, still with a slight smile on his face and I watched him go before sliding open the door to his mothers room. She was smirking at me. "You were listening weren't you."
"Obviously," she teased. "I'm glad you said yes. He talks about you all the time you know."
"Really?" I said, admittedly surprised.
"He does," she smiled. As I did her daily tests we spoke about what would happen this coming Saturday, her telling me that he was planning on taking me to the park for a nice walk, then getting ice cream. I admitted my excitement for the date, and told her that I hoped Shoto and I would become a couple after it. She said that she wished for it too, which made me blush.
- Timeskip to date -
I was waiting nervously in the front room of my house, dressed in a floaty white top and denim shorts. It was 11:00, the time which Shoto said he'd pick me up. I repeatedly tapped my feet, jumping out of my skin when I heard the doorbell go. Perhaps a little too quickly I jumped up and answered the door, seeing him in simple blue jeans, a white top and a blue open shirt over the top of that. "Hi," he said.
"Hello," I smiled, loving his outfit.
"Shall we?" He said, gesturing for me to step in front of him. He seemed a lot more confident today then when he asked me on this date a few days ago, something which I was thankful for. I was scared it'd be awkward, but with his confidence boost came comfort and relaxation. We walked towards the park, making small talk to begin with. "Sorry if I'm awkward (y/n), I don't usually do this kind of thing."
I looked up at him curiously, and he looked down. "Dates, I mean. I've never actually been on a date before," he admitted.
"Really? That surprises me," I said before thinking.
"Why?" He asked, curious.
"W-well... you're... um... nice, a-and you have a nice s-smile..."
"Thank you (y/n)," he said. "You have a nice smile too."
I giggled at this at before I knew it, we were at the park. He paid for my entry and we both started walking around it, under the beautiful trees and admiring the gorgeous wild plants. Once again he thanked me for looking after Rei, but I simply told him it was no big deal. We got onto the topic of UA, and I complimented his performance in the Sports Festival as we stopped on the back of the lake, looking out towards the quiet rippling water. "You're very powerful," I admired.
"Thanks... I've been through a lot of training," he mumbled.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, my dad started training me when I was five... if you could call it training," he said, slightly sad.
"Five years old? That's so young, you would've only just gotten your quirk, right?" I asked.
"Yeah. Has- has mum ever told you why she was admitted to hospital?" Shoto asked and I shook my head.
"I know it was something to do with Endeavour, but I never asked as I know it was not a nice subject for her to talk about. I never ask any of my patients why they have been admitted to hospital, as it's usually upsetting reasons," I sighed.
"That's good of you (y/n). I know mum doesn't like talking about it, but it was because of my father. He saw me as his prodigy, he was determined that I was to become a better hero then All Might. Mum tried to stop him from 'training' me so early on, but he claimed that as I was 'already' five, I had to be taught."
"Why do you say it like 'training'?" I asked carefully.
"Because it was more like child abuse. That's the true Endeavour. Someone who abuses his wife and children," he said, looking out onto the water. I gasped slightly and looked up at him. "He's the reason for my scar."
"H-he burnt you?" I asked, astounded.
"No. He drove mum to almost insanity, and she poured boiling water on my face because my left side reminded her of him. It's his fault. He sent mum away," he whispered. I frowned, utterly disgusted by the now number one hero. I couldn't believe that that was what he was like behind closed doors. Without thinking I took ahold of Shoto's hand, holding it in mine. "Sorry (y/n), I didn't mean to unload that on you, it's quite depressing," he suddenly said, chuckle slightly and rubbing the back of his head.
"Don't apologise, I'm glad you can trust me with this," I smiled.
"You're one of two people I've ever told," he mumbled. "The other is my best friend, Midoriya."
I smiled sadly up at him, holding onto his hand tighter to show I was there for him. He squeezed mine also, and we both stared at each other. "Thanks for listening, (y/n)."
"Anytime, Shoto," I replied.
"Fancy some ice cream?" He suggested, lightening the mood.
"Absolutely," I nodded excitedly. Together, still hand in hand, we walked further into the park towards a small and cute ice cream parlour, which Shoto assured me did amazing flavours. Shoto ordered strawberry and cream ice cream which made me chuckle, whilst I ordered (fave ice cream flavour). We sat outside as it was such a nice day, and began talking about everything and anything. It felt amazing to be here with him, and it felt so comfortable. I was glad he felt that he was able to tell me such personal things; it meant that he could trust me, and knowing that made me feel elated.
It had gotten to late afternoon, me then realising the time. Sadly I admitted to Shoto that I ought to be heading home, ready to help my mum cook dinner. He walked me home, our hands interlocking again giving me slight hope that there'll be a second date. We reached my home and together we stood on the porch, waiting for the other to say something. Finally I decided to go first.
"Thank you for an amazing day Shoto, I really enjoyed it," I blushed slightly, looking him in his heterochromatic eyes.
"Me too, I had fun," his slight smile appearing on his face. Slowly I leaned in and pressed my lips softly against his cheek. His cheeks heated up and as I pulled away he caught me by surprise, landing a kiss directly on my lips. Before I had a chance to kiss back however, he pulled away. "Sorry (y/n), I don't know what came over me-,"
I however wanted the chance to kiss him back, so by the collar of his t-shirt, I pulled him in for another kiss. Our lips moved against each others sweetly as he cupped my cheeks and I gripped onto his t-shirt. We both smiled against each other just as we pulled away. "So can I ask you on another date?"
I laughed at his question and nodded quickly. "Absolutely."
- The next day -
I had a Sunday shift and knew even before my date with Shoto that Rei was going to hound me with questions about how it went. I knew I could confide in her though, even though Shoto was her son. As I entered her room with the clipboard in my hand, she immediately asked me before even saying hello.
"Hello to you too Rei," I giggled.
"How did it go?" She asked again eagerly.
"It was... really really good," I smiled, wondering whether to tell her about the kiss or not. I definitely knew not to tell her that Shoto told me why she was in here, so I avoided that conversation.
"Are you together now?" She asked curiously.
"Well hopefully he will be soon, he asked me on another date after all," I blushed.
"He does really like you, I'm sure he'll ask soon," she smiled, apparently proud of her son. All throughout the day I had difficulty keeping my mind off of the red and white haired boy, and it was after our second date that he asked me to be his girlfriend. Rei was overjoyed when we came in to visit her together, and seeing her this happy radiated onto me. Life felt perfect.
