Quirk: Shadow Manipulation
It was lunch time at UA, and I was sitting at a table with my boyfriend and best friends, looking over the offers I had received from various heroes for the internship week. I had finished high in the UA Sports Festival ranks, so I had received quite a few offers, but the one I had my eye on was number 9 Pro Hero Kamui Woods. Mina had whined repeatedly when she saw that I had gotten an offer from him, claiming that she was incredibly jealous which only made me chuckle.
Shoto, who was sat next to me, was also looking through his sheets carefully. He put his papers down before pulling a pen out of his pocket and ticking a square next to a name I did not expect. "Shoto... your father... are you sure?" I asked skeptically.
"Yes. He is the number two hero after all," he said, his eyes not leaving the piece of paper. "Y'know I did try to get him to recruit you also but..."
"It's okay, I know he doesn't like me," I chuckled a little.
"He's just so close-minded," Shoto sighed, playing with his noodles. "I assume you'll be going with Kamui Woods?"
"I think that's my best bet. He's in the top ten after all," I smiled. Once everyone had filled in their forms and handed them back to Aizawa, all anyone seemed capable of talking about was the internships. The excitement could be felt in the air as the entire class waited at the gates of UA whilst Aizawa gave us one final talk. Nerves were growing inside of me rapidly as I thought about the fact that in less than an hour I'd be inside Kamui Wood's hero agency. The reality of the situation was beginning to hit me but the nerves flew away when a familiar hand wormed it's way into mine.
Subtly I looked up at my boyfriend who glanced down at me quickly, flashing a small smile. Finally Aizawa let us all go our separate ways to our internships, and for a while Shoto and I had to walk in the same direction. He held onto my hand comfortingly, but nerves were slowly filling me back up. "You'll do great, (y/n)," he assured me as we came to the fork in the road where I'd turn left and he'd turn right. "You need to have more confidence in yourself."
"Thanks Shoto. You'll do great too," I smiled, leaning up and pecking his lips. "I hope your father will be okay," I added tentatively.
"Me too," he said, laughing lightly. "Text me when you get there," he gave me one last kiss before walking down the road away from me. I turned and walked towards Kamui Woods' agency, it thankfully not being too far from my location. My boyfriends words had indeed put confidence in me, so I approached the agency with my head held high. When I reached the building the exterior just appeared to be a normal office building, however once I had stepped inside it was like a woodland.
There were potted plants lining the lobby, exotic trees hanging over the reception desks and the smell of blossom overpowered the room. This was definitely not the place to be if you had hay-fever. I remembered to text Shoto, so quickly I did so before I timidly approached the desk and announced myself whilst still admiring the interior. Moments later, from down the stairs that were in the corner, walked the number nine Pro Hero Kamui Woods. I blushed brightly, feeling both intimidated and excited. "Pleasure to meet you (y/n), I've been looking forward to this," he said deeply but politely, holding out his wooden hand for me to shake, which I did.
"Likewise sir, thank you for having me," I bowed. He nodded and took me through his agency towards his large office. I couldn't help but wonder how Shoto was getting on, and hoping that he was going to be able to stand his dad for the entire week. Thankfully Kamui Woods was kind, if a little strict and stern, but he welcomed me. As the day progressed I had become quite close with the three other people Kamui Woods had as permanent interns at his agency, and he set me up in a sparring match with each of them to analyse my technique.
He told me that the reason he had sent me an offer was because I used my quirk in a very similar way to him, so he was able to give me pointers on how to improve my move set and battle style. A couple of days went by in which I was taking all the information in as much as possible, memorising his moves. Shoto and I had spoken on the phone a few times, his father being apparently very strict with him but asides from that he assured me he was doing okay. Annoyingly, due to these internships, we hadn't had a chance to see each other face to face since their inception, so a phone call was the next best thing. Not only that but Endeavour had an eagles eye, and many of the phone calls Shoto and I shared were interrupted by him demanding my boyfriends attention.
Later that same day, Kamui Woods approached me informing me that this evening we were going to be out on patrol. "Really?" I asked, both excited and surprised.
"Yes, and I have given you permission to use your quirk in action should a situation arise where it'd need to be used. As a Pro Hero I can allow such things. I want you to, if there is a needed situation, prove to me that you're a skilled and talented hero in the field. You've definitely shown me those things in practice," he said politely and I blushed.
"Thank you sir, I won't let you down!"
The evening came by quite quickly and both nerves and adrenaline fuelled my body. Kamui Woods assured me I'd be okay, and the two of us began patrolling through the city streets, our eyes peeled for any villainous activity. He hadn't received any calls, so we kept to our side of the city. He explained to me how patrolling would usually go, and what would happen with captured, but he suddenly stopped talking and looked around the area. Right in front of us, the window to a jewellery shop smashed and out burst a large muscular villain with a sack over his shoulder, presumably filled with expensive goods.
Suddenly and with surprising force, Kamui pulled me behind him and out of harms way. I got up onto my hands and knees, looking up to see Kamui with his branches wrapped around the villain, the sack of jewellery on the pavement next to him. Kamui wrapped thicker branches around the villain, but both of us were shocked when the branches were sliced clean away. The villain had a thick hand held knife and was smirking maliciously at us.
Kamui growled and began his signature swinging around the area, using various lampposts and window ledges at leverage whilst shouting at the civilians to stay back and keep calm. I sent some of my shadows towards the villain however he dodged them and lifted his fist, ready to strike down upon me but I was quicker and had managed to pull up a shadow wall to create a shield. His fist hit the shadow, ricocheting off making him fall to the floor from the force. Annoyingly, he managed to roll out of the way of my shadows that tried to bind him, and he was up on his feet.
Kamui swung from a lamppost and sent some of his branches towards the villain, me sending my shadows at the same time in the hope to confuse him. At first it worked, until he took a proper look at me and ran towards me, throwing me off a little. His skills with the blade were good and quick, and he was constantly making sure that I was standing between him and Kamui so he wouldn't be able to send branches towards him. Thankfully however, he had apparently underestimated my skills as I was managing to keep up with him, defending myself using my shadows.
"Wow, you've got some skills tiny one," the villain growled, trying to distract me. Annoyingly he managed to as I felt a sudden pain across my bicep, realising quickly that his large knife had managed to cut me. I bit my lip in pain, trying hard to not let it affect me as I carried on fighting much to the villains surprise. I then however received a quick stab to my side, and saw he had a much smaller blade that he had just stabbed me with quickly.
Surprisingly it wasn't too painful, but I imagined it was just the adrenaline. I heard behind me Kamui was shouting down his phone, something about a large group of creatures terrorising the high street and telling them that he couldn't attend at the current time. For just a thieving thug, this villain had some annoyingly good knife tricks. "(y/n)!" He called out to me protectively, seeing the villain stab my side quickly again with the small blade. I gritted my teeth as I began to feel the pain, but I was determined to stay standing.
"I'm okay!" I shouted, preventing a knife from coming near my head as I wrapped my shadows around the villains wrist, pushing it away from me with all my strength. I saw his fist rise and land on my cheek harshly, making my shadow's grip on his other hand loosen. Thankfully Kamui was there, as his branch wrapped the villains hand which held the knife, and my shadows were able to block his other fist. With all the force I could muster, I brought my own fist up and punched his face, hard.
Kamui's branches then wrapped themselves entirely around the villain, and my shadows knocked away all the blades he had on him whilst my hands covered my injuries. "(y/n)! Are you alright?" Kamui asked desperately and I nodded quickly.
"Just a few flesh wounds," I groaned, gesturing my side, although I started to feel strong pain.
"I've called for an ambulance!" A bystander suddenly shouted out. Moments later sirens were heard, and a single police car and ambulance showed up, Kamui helping the three police officers get the villain into the police car whilst I was seen to by the paramedics. They needed to take me to the hospital as one of my injuries needed a few light stitches.
"I'm so sorry this happened to you whilst you were under my watch," Kamui sighed as the paramedics took me inside the ambulance.
"Don't apologise, I want to help any way I can," I smiled at him and he nodded, telling me that he'd come to the hospital later after he was done sorting things out with the police. Thankfully the treatment at the hospital was quick, but annoyingly I had no way of contacting Shoto and only my parents were notified of my injuries. I was put under quite a bit of pain relief medication, so the night was a bit of a blur, but I do remember seeing my parents and Kamui Woods talking casually just before I drifted off into a deep sleep.

The next morning the light hurt my eyes as I gently fluttered them open to see a nurse and Kamui Woods standing right next to my hospital bed. The nurse quickly checked over my injuries, re-tied my bandages and gave me some breakfast, all of which I thanked her for. "I'm glad you're okay, (y/n)," Kamui said, slight guilt laced in his voice.
"Thanks, I'm glad we caught that villain," I said proudly and he nodded.
"I need to let your parents know you've awoken. They both had to go to work so I told them I'd phone them," he informed me and I nodded. "Oh, did you know some of your friends are in this hospital too?"
"Huh?" I asked, confused.
"Some people from your class, they got caught up in an incident across town, on the high street. Midoriya, Iida and Todoroki-,"
"Shoto?" I asked quickly, sitting bolt upright.
"Yeah, Endeavour's son," Kamui said.
"He's my boyfriend! Is he okay? What room is he in?" I asked desperately, panic rising in my body but Kamui tried to calm me down. Thankfully, moments later, the nurse came in and told me I was free to go so immediately I changed into some casual clothes my parents had apparently brought along for me. Kamui took me through the hospital towards the hospital room shared by the three boys. Without even knocking I burst in and saw Shoto sitting on the bed in the far right corner, and immediately I ran up to him. "Shoto! What the hell happened to you?" I asked desperately, not only directing the question at him but at the other two boys. All three of them were wrapped in bandages - many more bandages then I had.
"(y/n), what are you doing here?" Shoto asked, apparently surprised to see me.
"Oh- well I had to come into hospital too-,"
"What happened to your arm?" He asked, his voice going slightly stern as he took ahold of my wrist.
"I just got a little bit injured, it's nothing too bad-,"
"How did that happen?" He asked in a demanding tone which made me shiver.
"Well, Kamui Woods and I came across a villain during patrol, and as we tried to detain him he used a blade to try and attack us. We got off pretty much unscathed. Anyway, I'm more concerned with what happened to you, are you okay?" I asked my boyfriend but he remained silent, still holding my wrist.
That was when Midoriya spoke up, telling me about everything to do with Stain. Listening intently I was utterly gobsmacked, thankful that the three were able to make it out of there with their lives. "Are you all alright?" I asked desperately, their injuries worrying me even more now. Both Midoriya and Iida nodded, but Shoto remained quiet. "Shoto... are you okay? Do you hurt anywhere-,"
"How could you have been so reckless! Look, I can see the bandages around your waist, and this one practically runs down your entire arm! You need to be more careful (y/n)!" He shouted angrily. The three of us stared at Shoto, gobsmacked at his sudden shouting. "How are you this reckless? You were so irresponsible and careless, what if something worse happened to you, huh? You need to learn to take these things seriously, you being so brash could've hurt you even more-,"
"How dare you!" I shouted at my boyfriend from the top of my lungs. My anger made him shut up and I snatched my wrist from his grasp. The silence in the room was deadly. "You have the audacity to call me reckless and irresponsible when you thought you could take on the Hero Killer? And incase you hadn't noticed, it's you who's been hurt worse, not me. I'm not the one still tucked up in a hospital bed due to multiple injuries! You're such a hypocrite!" I shouted, my fists clenched. Before he or the others could say anything, I barged out of the room, anger running through my veins.
I stormed out of the hospital completely, ignoring the large man with a dogs head clambering out of a black car. I needed to get to the comfort of my own home, so I can try to calm down these angry feelings building up inside me. Why would he shout at me like that, calling me such things, he's my boyfriend, isn't he supposed to be loving and caring?
I spent the rest of the day at home, recovering, I had planned to ignore Shoto, but I still checked my phone regularly hoping he would've messaged me but he hadn't. Anger and upset was fuelling my body as I was slowly falling asleep in my bed, clutching onto the pillows and ignoring both the physical and mental hurt I was feeling.

It was now Sunday evening and the debate on whether to message Shoto or not was still in full swing inside of my head. Either way I'd have to see him at school tomorrow, which made me nothing but nervous. He was my boyfriend, I loved him, and naturally we were going to have a first fight but it hurt, being called 'reckless' and 'irresponsible'. He had sent me a couple of messages, asking if he could see me and a part of me felt guilty for not responding, after all, it wasn't the worst fight in the world.
The rest of my internship week had gone by pretty smoothly, although annoyingly Kamui Woods didn't let me do any physical activities so I was instead shown the less glamorous side of being a hero: the paperwork. Thankfully the pain from my injuries had pretty much gone, so now I was just being lazy.
Suddenly an image of Midoriya popped up on my phone, with the buttons for answer or decline underneath it. "Hey Midoriya," I said as I answered his call.
"Hey, are you alright?" He asked, concerned.
"I'm okay," I lied.
"I know you're still upset about what happened between you and Todoroki, I can tell in your voice. Do you want to talk about it?" He asked sweetly and I smiled.
"Maybe," I replied.
"Right, well meet me at the sheltered bench in the park in half an hour?" He suggested to which I agreed. Straight away I stood and slipped into my shoes and coat, calling out to my mum that I was going out. On the walk to the park I hung my head low and had my hands in my pockets, knowing that Midoriya would suggest that I rang or saw Shoto to talk things over and make up. Of course I wanted to make up with him, but everything he had said to me hurt me too much, especially as all the same things could've been said about him at the time.
The park was large and full of ponds and trees, and there were several sheltered benches but I knew which one Midoriya meant as we'd often go there at weekends to hang out. I headed straight there and stood under the shelter, looking out at the steadily rippling pond. I heard light footsteps behind me and thought it was Midoriya behind me, however when I turned around I was shocked to see my boyfriend standing there. My heart thumped and my eyes widened, wondering what was going to happen.
"Hello," he mumbled under his breath.
"Hey," I acknowledged him. Awkwardly we stood, and I waited for him to speak. The pause seemed to last for ages, and it seemed as though he was thinking deeply. He had his hands in his pockets and was shuffling awkward, but I simply watched him and waited. I wondered what he was thinking about, and wondered what he was going to say.
"So... er... listen, (y/n), I'm sorry. I didn't mean to call you irresponsible and- and all those other things, I just meant that your actions were- I mean, they were a bit careless! I mean- what I'm trying to say is that I was even more careless, I shouldn't have shouted at you like that and I'm sorry. I was the one being reckless and crazy, you were right, and I'm sorry," he mumbled. I could tell he meant it as he seemed panicked and was talking quickly, trying desperately to get his point across. He was never usually so timid, either. I knew straight away that I would forgive him, but before I could say anything, he carried on.
"I-I- I know that you probably want to break up with me now... I just care about you and the idea of you getting hurt terrifies me... I'm sorry I was so hard on you and I understand if you want to break up with me-,"
I couldn't help but burst out laughing. He looked at me, utterly bewildered at my reaction as I smiled brightly at him. "Shoto, of course I don't want to break up with you! I just needed an apology, and to know that you truly meant it," I said, walking up to him and wrapping my arms around his neck. He carefully wrapped his arms around my waist, holding onto me tightly. "We had a fight, every couple has fights, but that doesn't mean they have to break up."
"I-I'm sorry... I just don't want to loose you. I guess that's kind of why I lost it," he said awkwardly, but I just nodded.
"I felt exactly the same, I hate seeing you so injured Shoto," I said, touching the plaster on his cheek lightly.
"We haven't been together long (y/n), but I love you so much," he whispered, resting his forehead against mine.
"I love you too Shoto. First fights are always important in relationships anyway," I said.
"Really?" He asked, apparently surprised.
"Yes, because if you can get past it and still love each other as much as we do, you know it's real," I whispered, leaning in and pressing my lips against his. He kissed back sweetly, holding onto my waist tighter. He nodded in agreement when we broke apart, and we decided to spend the evening together in the peaceful tranquility of the park, sitting on the bench and cuddling tightly, basking in the love we had for one another.
