I breathed in deeply as I walked through Haneda airport, nerves filling my entire body. I was looking through the sea of people trying to find the one person with a small plaque that had my name on. When I finally spotted it I gripped my large suitcase tighter and approached the lady who was wearing a plain black suit, a black hat and sunglasses. "Atomic?" She asked and I nodded. "Welcome to Japan. Please, follow me," she said and I nodded again, following her out of the airport to a jet black car that was waiting for us outside.
"Excuse me, may I ask your name?" I asked carefully.
"Of course. My name is Irina Jelavić. Like you I am not from Japan, but I have made it my home. I can assure you you will enjoy your time here," she said, but I wasn't so sure.
My home country had had some tips that the lead crime family had been in contact with the Yakuza, which had seemingly reformed despite the downfall of one of their higher-ups, Overhaul. I had been briefed back in my home country that the Yakuza fell into decline after Overhaul's downfall, but it seemed as though they had reached out to the number one crime family of my country and now that they were working together they were regaining numbers and growing stronger. Japan had requested the assistance of one of my countries top heroes, and the government decided it was me that had to leave my family and friends behind to fly to a country I had never been before and knew little about.
"I'll be taking you straight to the Safety Office where you will meet with the commissioner and a number of other heroes. I myself am a member of the office," Irina informed as we drove through the streets of Tokyo, my eyes hypnotised by the intensity of the place.
When we arrived at the tall and intimidating building, Irina led me inside, there being many people in expensive looking suits running around frantically wafting sheets of paper in each others faces. "Here we are," she said as we reached a large oak door, but as soon as she opened it I felt intimidated.
In the middle of the white room was a large oval table, surrounded by many people in hero outfits. "Ah, Atomic I presume?" A man at the end of the table stood up, walking the distance and shaking my hand to welcome me. "My name is Karasuma, I'm the commissioner. I trust you had a good journey?"
"It was fine... thanks," I mumbled.
"We've saved you a seat, please," he pulled out the last empty chair which I sat in, it being between a handsome man with red and white hair, and another man who's face I couldn't see thanks to the hood of his long white cape. "Everyone, meet our recruit from (home/country), Atomic."
"'bout time the foreigner showed up," a man nearby scoffed, him having a yellow eye mask on and silver shoulder pads.
"Rock Lock, no need to be so abrupt," another younger man said, him having messy green hair.
"Pfft," the one called Rock Lock scoffed again. The commissioner began to speak about the mission at hand and I of course was paying attention, but half of my mind was still on home. I already missed it terribly, and had no idea how I was going to fit in with this crowd especially as they all knew each other and were used to each other. I was the outsider, the one no-one would want to work with, the one people would cast aside.
When the meeting was over Irina led me back to the car and drove me to an apartment which would act as a house for me over the next few months. As I entered the small and cold apartment with only the bare necessities in I couldn't help but want to get this mission wrapped up as quickly as possible just so I could be back home in my own comfy bed, instead of this scratchy futon laid in the middle of the sitting room.

I had tried to make an effort in terms of meeting people but I had had little success. I became something of a wallflower, particularly after the meetings when the heroes would have more personal conversation with each other. I would always stand at the side, probably looking pathetic. Just as I was about to leave however, a presence in front of me caught my attention.
"Atomic, isn't it?" The handsome red and white haired man asked and I felt my mouth go dry.
"Yes... I'm sorry, I don't know your hero name," I apologised, feeling embarrassed.
"It's okay, it's Shoto. That's actually my birth name too, Shoto Todoroki," he said, holding out his hand for me to shake.
"(y/n) (l/n)," I smiled a little.
"How're you finding Tokyo?" He asked to my surprise, him being the first out of everyone to ask how I was doing.
"Um... it's unusual... quite interesting," I said and he chuckled.
"I'm not on patrol until tonight. Why don't I show you some of my favourite sights, then I can walk you home," he said and I felt my cheeks heat up.
"I don't want you to go out of your way for me!" I said quickly, wafting my hands in front of my body.
"It's alright... this mission's gonna be a long one, I wouldn't want you staying in a place you don't feel comfortable," Shoto said kindly.
"T-thanks... Shoto," I mumbled. He opened the door for me and we headed out into the busy streets of the most populated city in the world. "Life never stops here, does it?" I said as we walked.
"No, not really. There are peaceful places in Tokyo though, I'll show you one now," he said, leading the way and pointing out various sights along the way. It was like having my own personal tour guide as led led me to a large park filled with greenery and cherry blossom trees. "I come here a lot when I need time to relax. There's really nice ponds with koi fish in them and handmade shelters. I'll show you around."
I couldn't help but stare at the beauty around me, it being prettier than I imagined. The pink trees were blowing in the wind and the rippling of the clear blue water was soothing. I looked into the water and indeed saw orange and black koi swimming happily. "You're right, this place really is relaxing," I said and he smiled his handsome smile. My cheeks heated up a little but I decided to ignore it, pressing on with Shoto instead.
My stomach growled when we reached the end of the park making the two of us chuckle, but thankfully there was a nice noodle bar Shoto liked to frequent at nearby so he took me to it. It wasn't hard to get a table because of his status as a pro hero, and we ordered a bowl of ramen each. "So what do you think of Tokyo so far?"
"From what I've seen it's beautiful... bizarre but beautiful," I laughed.
"How long are you here for?"
"Six months I think? I hope anyway..."
"You're homesick aren't you," he said and I sighed, nodding.
"I've only been here a week," I said with an empty laugh, thinking of home.
"I'll help you try and settle whilst you're here, then six months will fly by," he tried to comfort me and I smiled at his kindness. The waiter soon came back with our noodles, and I felt nothing but pure embarrassment as I tried to hold my chopsticks. "First time using chopsticks?" Shoto laughed at me.
"Yes!" I hissed, feeling embarrassed.
"Relax, just hold them like this," he took ahold of my hand and moved my fingers, making it easier for me to control the utensils. "There, now try." He had made it easier for me but it was still a challenge, it being another one of the many things I'd have to try and get used to during my time here.
After food he showed me various cafés and manga stores he liked, including one where you could stay all night. The day crept along and it soon began to get dark, him insisting on walking me home which I happily accepted. I'd enjoyed today immensely, having realised I had made a new friend. "This is it," I pointed to the plain looking apartment building. I opened the door to the flat, inviting him inside but he simply stood in the porch as I slipped off my shoes and cast them aside. "Er... are you okay?"
"Do you have any slippers?" He asked and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"No, why?" I asked.
"Ah... well you see, pretty much everyone where's slippers in the house for hygiene reasons, you know, to stop people's feet getting dirty?" He said and my mouth formed an 'o'.
"Right... okay, well tomorrow I'll go and buy some slippers... so I have to wear the slippers all the time inside?"
"No," he laughed, heading to my sofa and sitting down. "You've got a lot to learn about Japanese culture."
"I know I do... I feel so embarrassed, I'm sorry Shoto," I sighed, plopping down beside him.
"Don't worry, I'll teach you if you'd like," he offered and my eyes widened.
"Really? I don't want to be any trouble, you've already done so much for me..."
"It's no trouble. The last thing I'd want if for you to feel uncomfortable during your stay here," he said politely and my heart warmed.
"I'll make it up to you, I promise," I said and he smiled. "Right... where shall we start?"

Three months had gone by and I felt more welcomed, made new friends and had gotten used to Tokyo all thanks to Shoto Todoroki. I was closest with him out of everyone, most of the friends I had made being people he knew back in hero school. He'd shown me his old campus as well, the two of us having compared stories of our high school experiences from our respective countries.
My apartment had become a lot more homelier thanks to Shoto, as he helped me to properly unpack, to buy everyday items and to decorate the place with a few large plants. Once again the two of us were hanging out there, him teaching me how to cook more Japanese dishes as a way of immersing me into the Japanese culture. "Looks cooked to me, lets try it," he said, loading the mixture into the steamed bun.
We took all the food I had made over to my kotatsu and began munching at it, rating it out of ten. I was pleased when Shoto smiled at the taste of my cold soba, it being his favourite dish. Inconveniently I had found myself getting flustered around Shoto which was annoyingly quite a lot. I was scared that I was falling for him, not wanting to fall for anyone or get too close to people as I'd be back in my home country in three months, but my heart kept on swelling whenever I was around him and I became hypnotised by him.
I couldn't believe three months had already gone by. I was enjoying my time here much more than I thought I would be, and I was no longer homesick all thanks to Shoto. In fact it was the thought of leaving here that made me sick, as I knew I'd never see him again...
"(y/n)? (y/n)!"
"What?!" I suddenly snapped my attention back at him.
"Do you want the last dumpling?" He asked, handing me the plate.
"No it's okay, you can have it," I said and in a second it was in his mouth.
"You're cooking is so good, I'm coming here every night for food," he said, laying back on the floor.
"Oh are you? And who's going to pay for all your food?" I teased, stacking up the empty plates.
"Of course I'll pay if it means I get to be here eating with you. In fact I'll open a tab," he said and my heart skipped a beat.
"Y-yeah- sure, whatever," I tried to say in a chill voice but it didn't come out quite right. I quickly ran the plates towards the sink where I let out a deep sigh, trying to pull myself together. I tried to distract myself by running the water to wash up, but I almost jumped out of my skin when I felt his presence behind me, his arms almost wrapped around me as they reached either side of me into the sink.
"I'll help," he whispered and I gulped, looking up at him. He had a sparkle in his gorgeous eyes, and was stood incredibly close to me - his front was practically pressed against my back. He looked down at me with gentleness in his expression, and my heart began to race as I thought I noticed him slowly leaning his head towards me. Our faces were incredibly close, however we were interrupted by a very loud knock on the door, it causing us to jump apart.
I realised how hot my face felt, muttering 'I'll get that,' under my breath and avoiding eye contact with him. I flung open the door and was surprised to see a drunk looking Uraraka being held up by a tired looking Midoriya. "Hi (y/n), I'm sorry to impose on you, but I don't suppose Ochaco could rest here for a little while? Just until she's sobered up?"
"Sobered up?! I'm not drunk!" She slurred her words and Midoriya rolled his eyes.
"S-sure, come in," I stepped aside to let them in.
"Oh hey Todoroki! I didn't realise you were here, sorry for the intrusion," Midoriya said again and I glanced at Shoto who had a blush on his face.
"I-it's fine, sit Uraraka down, I'll get her some water," I said, also bringing the washing up bowl incase she threw up.
"I'm fiiiiine," Uraraka slurred, Midoriya rubbing the back of his head awkwardly.
"How did she get in this state?" Shoto asked and Midoriya sighed.
"She was out drinking with Tsuyu, and she just couldn't keep up. Ochaco's a bit of a lightweight in comparison to her, so Tsuyu called me to help take her home..." he explained. I was just glad there was something to fill the awkwardness between Shoto and I, although I did wonder what would've happened had Midoriya not knocked...
Midoriya kept on apologising for interrupting us, not quite realising what he could've been interrupting. Shoto and I shuffled awkwardly, my mind being haunted by the handsome look on his face as he was about to kiss me. "Waterrr!" Uraraka raised her empty gland and I chuckled a little.
"I'll get it," Shoto said quickly, grabbing the glass and heading towards the sink.
"Oh, (y/n), let me do your washing up for you," Midoriya suddenly said, spotting the pile of it by the sink.
"You don't have to-,"
"It's the least I can do after all this," he gestured his girlfriend and I chuckled. He headed over to Shoto whilst I sat with a very drunk Uraraka.
"(y/n), do you like Shotoooo?" She whispered in a teasing tone, the smell of alcohol evident on her breath.
"No! No of course not!" I hissed, hoping she was quiet enough so that the boys didn't hear. I glanced over to them and they thankfully seemed to be having their own private conversation. They did glance over to us for a second, but Shoto quickly snapped his head away.
"Yes you do, don't lie," she teased, nudging my arm.
"Whether I do or not isn't the point, I can't be with him and that's that," I said and she furrowed her eyebrows.
"Why not?" She asked, almost pouting.
"Because I'll be flying back to (home/country) soon, I can't afford to be with someone here... plus it's not like he has feelings for me anyway," I said but I did wonder whether that was true given the situation we were in before the couple knocked on our door. It did seem as though he was trying to kiss me, but that wasn't solid proof that he actually had feelings for me.
"Life's too short to be worrying about stuff in the future... get it now... while you can," she murmured, her drunk words actually making me think. "Shoto!" She called out to him and my heart stopped.
"N-no, don't say anything!" I hissed quietly, looking frantically over at him but he didn't seem fazed.
"What?"
"Where's my water?!" She called and I let out a sigh of relief, glad she didn't say anything about me. He walked back to us with it and to my surprise sat right beside me. I gulped and looked up at him, his eyes already on me. Ochaco sipped at her new glass of water whilst Midoriya washed up, leaving just Shoto and I to have a conversation. For the first time since the time since I arrived in this country I felt a little awkward around him, not sure what to say or how to act.
"It's getting quite late," he mumbled, fiddling with his sleeve.
"Oh... yeah," I wasn't really sure how to respond.
"I was wondering if perhaps I could stay the night?" He asked and my mouth went dry at how bold he was. Before I had a chance to respond however, Midoriya interrupted us yet again.
"Alright, I've finished the washing up for you (y/n). Sorry again for the intrusion, I'll be able to get her home now that she's sobered up a little. C'mon Ochaco," he wrapped her arm around his neck and hauled her up. She stumbled around a little but was much better than she was when she arrived. "Thanks you two, you've been a real help. Have a good night," he said, waving as he and Ochaco left leaving just Shoto and I in the small apartment.
We stood awkwardly side by side before I dared to look up at him, seeing a blush on his cheeks. "Shoto..."
"(y/n), I- I-," he couldn't seem to find the words so instead showed what he meant through his actions, them being him taking ahold of my cheeks and pulling me in for a passionate kiss. Immediately I kissed back, wrapping my arms around him in a loving embrace and feeling utterly hooked on his lips, but that was just the beginning of a wonderful night.
