8: The Attack Part Two
Warning! This is part two of two!
Quirk: Bunny
Shoto had told me of Kirishima's plan and despite him being skeptical about me joining them on their trip to save Bakugou I was discharged earlier in the day. I was determined to help out as I felt so useless at the Summer Camp and I wanted to redeem myself. Together we waited outside the hospital for the others and soon Kirishima, Midoriya and Momo joined us.
"Hold on," The voice came from someone we least expected, and we turned to see Iida approaching us, anger written on his face.
"Why are you here?" Midoriya asked shyly. It was obvious Iida was angry at us, particularly Shoto and Midoriya especially after what happened with the Hero Killer.
"UA is already in a bad position as it is! Anything we do will reflect on that, don't you understand?" He shouted.
"Iida! We have to! I know you don't like us breaking rules but-," Midoriya started but was unable to finish due to something that shocked us all. Iida had lifted up his fist and landed a punch straight on the side of Midoriya's face, knocking him backwards to the ground. I gasped audibly, my eyes widening and my hand brought to my mouth.
"I'm frustrated too! And concerned, obviously!" Iida raged dramatically - none of us had ever seen him in such a state.
"Iida, you got it wrong," Shoto suddenly said. "We don't expect to face them head on and win. We'll get him back without fighting."
"Yeah, we'll be stealthy... I'm talking covert ops here. We can rescue him without breaking the rules," Kirishima said.
"We'll stand and help, we'll do what we can to rescue Bakugou, but only rescue. Not to fight," I nodded. Kirishima, Midoriya, Momo, Shoto and I were all determined to go as we faced Iida head on, seriousness etched on all of our faces. We were all silent for a moment, waiting for Iida to say something, and he definitely said the unexpected.
"I'm going to come with you."
"Iida... are you sure?" I asked skeptically.
"Let's make one thing clear. I'm coming because I don't condone your behaviour. If there's even a hint that physical combat might break out, I'll make you retreat immediately. I'm your watchman!" He stated.
"Exactly what we needed," Shoto mumbled. We headed straight for the train station and boarded a train bound for Camino Ward, us following the tracker Momo had created. She set out our coordinates, and informed us that we would be travelling for two hours before our destination would be reached.
"A lot longer then I anticipated," I admitted. "We'll be there at ten, right?" I asked, checking my watch.
"Right," Momo nodded.
I slowly picked at the food Shoto had bought for me, nervousness filling my body, which Shoto seemed to sense. He gently placed a hand on my thigh making me jump slightly and turn to him. He nodded, showing a little smile which I replied with meekly.
"Just to make sure... you know we're going against everyone's wishes and being completely selfish by doing this. We can call this off if we want to... if you want to, (y/n). I don't want to drag you into anything too dangerous-,"
"No, Shoto, I'll be okay. I want to help as much as I can, Bakugou's our friend, right? Even if he is a little bit... loud... and opinionated. Whilst I'm still able to move, I'm still able to help," I said, regaining a little confidence. He leaned over and gently kissed me on my temple and I smiled, snuggling against him.
Two hours passed as we discussed further what we were planning on doing, and how we'd go about it. Of course it'd all depend on the environment we would be in, so we were just hatching a loose idea. I had never been to Camino Ward before, so when we got off of the train I was gobsmacked at how big and incredibly busy the place was, crowds upon crowds of people. Kirishima was definitely riled up, desperate to find his best friend but Momo had to hold him back to stop him running off.
"Wait a second! From now on we're going to need to be extremely careful, these criminals already know what we look like, remember? In other words, we need to get some disguises so that we're not recognisable," Momo said in a matter-of-fact tone. She pointed towards a large cheap clothes store, and lead us all inside. It was mainly Momo picking out the outfits for us, and she handed everyone piles of clothes and wigs and shoved us all into changing rooms. When I got a proper look at what she had picked out for me my eyes widened. I was wearing a low cut dress that barely covered my bum and thigh high boots - an outfit I definitely wouldn't of chosen for myself. She had also gotten me a hat in an attempt to cover my bunny ears.
We approached the boys who were done changing too and they all blushed when they looked at us. Shoto immediately approached me and stood in front of me protectively, glaring at the other three guys who were staring at me a little longer then they should've. Iida turned away sharpish and started whistling, pretending he never even looked, Midoriya started blabbering away and Kirishima rubbed the back of his head awkwardly, looking anywhere but at Shoto's icy glare. "You couldn't of found her anything less revealing for her to wear?" Shoto hissed at Momo.
"It's nothing like she'd usually wear!" Momo defended.
"The skirt is so short! Stop looking at her!" Shoto hissed to the three guys who awkwardly turned away again.
"It's fine Shoto, I'll just stay behind you," I said, trying to be soothing.
"I'm not letting go of you, I don't want anyone staring," he growled, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I was quite surprised at his sudden display of affection and protectiveness, but I wasn't complaining. "Yaoyorozu couldn't you of used your quirk to save money?"
"Well technically but that's breaking the rules! Think of the economy!" She rambled. We started walking, following Momo, Shoto holding onto me tightly as random guys began looking towards me. I was clutching onto his waist too, slightly intimidated by the looks I was getting. Realistically, it wasn't very incognito.
The transceiver was beeping slowly, so we kept on following Momo who was out in front. The beeping quickened as we headed down darkened streets where other citizens became thin on the ground. Momo stopped at the end of a street, her back against the wall as she looked across the street towards an old and empty looking building. "This is the spot the tracker is broadcasting from. According to the tracking history, they haven't left for a past day. Remember, it could only be one villain here and they might have Bakugou somewhere else."
"In other words, we're going in blind," I said and she nodded.
"None of us are good at sneaking around... we need Hagakure, or Jirou here," Iida said.
"I'm not too bad at sneaking around," I pointed out, raising my hand slightly. "After all, I can see better then anyone here in the dark, I can hear and sense things really well and I'm light on my feet-,"
"Absolutely not," Shoto said protectively.
"Todoroki, she does make a good point," Momo said carefully.
"I'll silently approach the building, then I'll give you a thumbs up if it's okay to approach-,"
"You're not going alone!" Shoto enforced. He was about to say something else before I went on my tiptoes and kissed him, making him go red.
"I'm strong Shoto, I won't break," I whispered. "I'll be fine, I promise."
"Don't do anything stupid, like at the Summer Camp," he mumbled.
"Yes sir," I teased, slipping out of my boots and pulling off my hat. "I'll send you a signal, keep your eyes on me," I said, taking my hat off so my ears could listen at full capacity, my nose twitching and jumping soundlessly towards our target. I could feel Shoto's protective eyes on me, and I knew he was ready to jump out and attack if anything were to happen to me. Nothing in the vicinity was making any sound, there were no people around but I could smell a strange something. The closer I got to the building that the receiver had led us to, the stronger the smell got. I recognised it, but I couldn't remember where from. The building was old, weeds growing around it and it looked as though it had been untouched, and the rusted gate enforced this fact. In between that and its neighbouring building there was a very thin alleyway, but it was big enough to squeeze down and go behind the building. I sent my boyfriend a thumbs up, and he led everyone towards me.
"So looks like we're headed down here then," Kirishima said, pointing to the thin alleyway. I led the way, followed by Shoto, Midoriya, Iida, Kirishima and finally Momo. On the side of the building I spotted a window, quite high up but it should give us an idea of what our situation is.
"(y/n), will you be able to see inside?" Iida asked and I nodded.
"If someone gives me a boost, then yeah," I nodded.
"I don't like this," Shoto groaned.
"I bought some night vision goggles for this, I'll have a look too," Kirishima said. Midoriya helped me onto Shoto's shoulders, and Momo helped Kirishima onto Iida's. I held onto the wall as I tried to get a peek inside, brushing away some of the grime away from the window. "The place looks pretty trash," Kirishima pointed out the obvious. I scanned my eyes across the room and spotted something in the far left corner that made my stomach turn. I yelped out, covering my mouth quickly as I starred in horror.
"What is it? (y/n)? You weren't spotted were you?!" Shoto asked, gripping onto my ankles.
"Kirishima... look... b-back left..." I whispered, and he too freaked out.
"What is it? We're blind down here!" Iida hissed.
"It's the N-Nomu's... there's tanks upon tanks of them in here," I stuttered, unable to take my eyes off of the disgusting creatures in their strange liquid. "S-so many..."
"Oh my goodness," Momo whispered, worry evident in her voice. Immediately Shoto brought me back down, gently holding me. From down the alley, looking back onto the street, I noticed a sudden large purple foot pick up a truck and lift it high into the air. I thought I was going insane, when suddenly the entire building crashed, rubble flying everywhere, us being blown back by the force but thankfully the alley wall protected us. Shoto held his arms around me tighter and I clung onto his waistcoat, us all trying to stay on our feet. The building crumbled and we poked our heads out above the wall which had its top half blown off, rumble scattering over us. We saw Best Jeanist, Mount Lady, Gang Orca and Tiger all there, capturing the Nomu. I realised that the likelihood is that they had Bakugou elsewhere, but if they knew to trash this building then the other heroes involved in this rescue must have saved him already. We looked hopefully at each other, and Iida spoke of us going back home, fully able to leave this to the professionals. Just as we were about to walk away I stopped, my ears perking up and my nose twitching.
"(y/n)? What is it?" Shoto asked, the rest of the gang stopping too. I didn't answer, trying to figure it out myself. I heard voices, someone talking about taking Ragdoll's quirk. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at the rest nervously. I waited, before sensing something, something bad.
"Get down!" I shouted, leaping at Shoto and pulling him to the ground with me, the others following suit just in time for an incredibly loud and violent explosion to erupt from the building. We barely had time to comprehend what had happened. The building was blast into a million pieces, there was simply an empty patch of uneven land left in its wake. Surprisingly the wall we were hiding behind remained standing, but there was a few cracks that we had to hide under in order to be seen. We could all hear a threatening voice, talking to Best Jeanist who had managed to save the other heroes from the incredible explosion. Horrified, we were all behind the wall, physically shaking and Shoto clinging onto me as though if he let go, I'd be killed. I then heard a loud groan of pain, a splatter of blood and saw briefly the what looked like the lifeless body of Best Jeanist. We were all too frightened to move, all unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Suddenly there was a loud splatter and we heard the curses of Bakugou. There were a number of villains around him, preventing him from leaving and they seemed to be talking to the one who made the explosion as though they were followers of his. Shoto and I excanged nervous glances, but we all sighed in relief when we heard a familiar voice.
"I'll have you return my student, All For One!" All Might boomed as there was a giant crash. The powerful repercussions sent incredible wind around them, knocking us all to the floor. The way All Might and the villain were talking to each other made it seem as though they had history, but that was the least of our worries now. We were still focussed on trying to save Bakugou, whilst not getting killed in the process. Suddenly Midoriya perked up, desperation in his voice, knowing of a way to save Bakugou without having to fight.
"Tell us your plan," Shoto said.
"It'll all depend on him. Kirishima, you're the key to this being a success, so here's what I'm thinking: we'll propel ourselves using my quirk and Iida's engines. We'll carry Kirishima, and using your hardening we'll bust through the wall. When we've cleared it, Todoroki, create a huge ice slide for us, high in the air. We'll be able to slide in the air too high for them to reach. Kirishima, you'll have to call out to Bakugou, and hopefully he'll use his explosions to propel himself on and grab ahold of us as we continue to fly over the battlefield."
Together, the guys did exactly what Midoriya had planned, and thankfully they succeeded, the three of us left behind watching from afar, seeing Bakugou launch himself up and cling onto Kirishima. "They did it!" I squealed in excitement.
"All eyes are on them, this is our chance to go," Shoto said, taking my hand and the three of us ran down the alleyway, away from all the commotion and back towards Camino Ward as fast as we could. All around us the buildings were collapsed, but we managed to make out the roads and finally reached the unharmed high street. Once there, the place was bustling even more with people that had to evacuate and people staring at the advertisement screens, which was now showing a live video of All Might and the villains fight. It was hectic, traffic had stopped and cars were abandoned all over the roads, the police were trying to maintain order and evacuating everyone to a safer location away from the fight, many people were running, children were crying.
"Are you alright?" Shoto asked me desperately, clinging onto my shoulders and looking me in the eyes.
"Y-yes, I'm fine," I breathed, trying to slow down my heart rate. "Are you?"
"Yes, I'm alright. Yaoyorozu?"
"I'm okay, lets just keep on walking, and try and blend into the crowd," she said, and we both nodded, Shoto clinging onto my hand tightly and dragging me along quickly. Midoriya texted saying he and the others were heading to the train station so we decided to do the same, however something on the large advertisement screens on the high street caught our attention. It was All Might's fight with the villain, but he looked far from okay. It looked as though he had shrunk, and was a shell of his former self.
"Is that... All Might?" I questioned carefully, staring at the screen.
"N-no, it can't be!" Momo exclaimed.
"I think it is," Shoto said carefully, staring at the broken looking man on the screen. The three of us stared at the screen, unable to speak until suddenly Endeavour jumped into the situation. I audibly gasped, turning to Shoto's who's eyes widened even more. I held onto his hand, him squeezing mine in apparent shock before his eyebrows furrowed. "Wants the attention," he grumbled under his breath.
"Shoto your father is needed in a situation like this," I said and he didn't want to but had to admit that that was the truth. Him and Edgeshot immediately began to assist All Might, fighting this villain. The whole crowd around us were cheering the heroes on desperately, and their hope was infectious. Immediately we joined them, shouting out our hope and support for All Might. Somehow the villain was still expanding his power, and worry filled us. It reached the point where I could barely watch, so I hid myself in Shoto's chest, shaking and still crying out my support.
There was silence among the crowds. I was too nervous to reappear from Shoto's chest. I waited in anticipation, for some kind of signal as to what had happened. "He did it! (y/n) All Might won!" Shoto whispered into my hair, and I looked up at my boyfriend, tears in my eyes and saw on the screen the thin and frail body holding up his fist, underneath him was the body of the villain, passed out cold. I shouted excitedly, jumping up onto Shoto, him wrapping his arms around my waist and spinning me around with the biggest smile I had ever seen him wear spread across his face. I couldn't resist him, and smashed my lips onto his, completely overjoyed as we kissed passionately, him lowering me to the ground and brushing a hand through my hair as I clutched onto his waistcoat. We broke apart but remained close, laughing happily, our foreheads leaning against one another. That's when I remembered Momo was standing right next to us.
"O-oh! Sorry Momo," I said awkwardly.
"Don't apologise, you two make a very sweet couple," she smiled and we both looked at each other, smiling. Together, the three of us weaved our way through the crowds who were all cheering and hugging each other happily. We met up with the others at the train station and the journey home felt unbelievably good, although I noticed Midoriya's eyes were incredibly red and puffy, and he barely spoke. After all, he was very close to All Might so this probably came as a huge shock to him. Bakugou too was quite quiet, and kept on glancing over at Midoriya with a mix of curiosity and frustration.
We arrived back in the station near out homes, and walked down the familiar streets, saying goodbye to everyone as they all turned down different routes. We would see them all in a few days at school, and we all knew we were going to get quite the lecture from our classmates and teachers but for now, Shoto and I were just desperate to relax. I felt slightly intimidated as we approached his incredibly large, traditional Japanese house which had a large front garden filled with exotic plants and zen ponds. He knocked on the door after finding it locked, and his older sister immediately opened it, throwing her arms over her little brother. "Where the hell have you been?" She cried.
"Sorry sis, we had business to attend to," Shoto said simply, pulling away from her. "Sis, this is (y/n)."
She turned and looked at me and I fiddled with my hands awkwardly. "Hi," I said timidly. "I-I don't usually dress like this, I promise, I just had to for something my friends and I were doing tonight, it's a disguise really-," I mumbled.
"Aw you're so cute! I love your quirk, too!" She said, gesturing my bunny ears. "Come on in!" She invited me in and I stepped into their large house, only now realising how tired I was. "So, is this a little relationship we've got going on here?"
"Yes," Shoto said bluntly.
"Aw! You're his first girlfriend!"
"Fuyumi!"
"Really?" I said, surprised and turning to face him, him glaring at his sister who was laughing.
"Look, we're gonna go to bed, we'll see you in the morning sis," he grumbled, taking my hand and leading me towards his room. "Do you mind sleeping in my room?"
"N-not at all," I replied. We reached it and it was decorated with traditional Japanese artwork, bonsai trees and dark wood furniture. I helped him lay out his large futon before he handed me one of his t-shirts to use as pyjamas. He wore joggers and no top on. Seeing each other in minimal clothing made our cheeks hot but we tried to ignore it, him laying on the futon and gesturing for me to do the same.
"Well, it's been an eventful evening," Shoto said.
"It sure has... poor All Might," I voiced my concerns.
"I know. I wonder what will happen now," Shoto admitted.
"Does this mean your father is now the number one pro hero?" I asked.
"Yeah, I suppose it does," Shoto sighed, I guess he never really wanted his father to make it.
"Will - er - your father be here tomorrow?" I asked, Shoto picking up on the worry in my voice.
"He'll be helping out with cleaning up the city all night, as well as capturing the villains. Don't worry, I know you're not ready to meet him yet. We'll head over to yours in the morning, if you want, or we could go out for lunch."
"I'd like that, our first proper date with your first girlfriend," I teased and he blushed again, not knowing what to say. "Goodnight Shoto."
"Goodnight, (y/n)."
