Four: The Practical Exams

Mr Aizawa had been preparing us for the practical exams for the past fortnight, however we didn't know the true nature of them until the day arrived. We were to be paired and put against one of the teachers in the UA faculty. I was paired with Yaoyorozu, and we were put against Mr Aizawa. (y/n) was paired with Jirou, and then put against Present Mic which concerned me a bit as (y/n)'s hearing was very sensitive.

Yaoyorozu and I went after Kirishima and Sato failed there's, and we were running through the residential area, looking out for any sign of Aizawa. I told her my plan and got her to work straight away, but she seemed troubled by something. I had to console her as doubts of her abilities were getting the best of her, but it was then that Aizawa captured me, hoisting me up with his scarf. I shouted at Yaoyorozu to run, then wondered how I was going to get out of this situation without landing on the spikes he had laid beneath me. She did seem as though she had a plan but she had kept quiet.

Yaoyorozu soon came back however, and I demanded to tell me her plan. Gaining a little bit of confidence from my encouragement, she initiated phase one and set off a flash bomb, then lowering me to the ground, the pair of us running away. She told me to create a huge ice wall, which I did, wondering what she was thinking as surely it'd attract Aizawa's attention. "Okay, so can you tell me the rest of your plan now-," I paused as I turned to face her, seeing she had taken her top off. For a brief second I saw her exposed before turning away incredibly quickly, wondering what the hell she was thinking.

She told me the rest of her plan and it seemed likely to work, so we decided to execute it and it indeed did work. I was quite impressed with her as she handcuffed the captured Aizawa, her mumbling away about self doubts. She suddenly burst into tears and I froze, completely unsure of what to do so I simply led her back to the waiting lounge by which time she had stopped crying. She pointed out the fact that it was (y/n)'s turn next so we both made our way to the monitor room, ready to watch my crushes exam. Midoriya and Uraraka were in there too, so the four of us stood and watched with Recovery Girl monitoring the screens.

(y/n) and Jirou started out by walking through the woods their exam was set in, and as she appeared on the screen I couldn't help but smile a little, hoping that she'll pass the exam. Yaoyorozu nudged my arm playfully with a teasing smile, but I turned away and ignored her, her chuckling to herself. Both (y/n) and Jirou suddenly collapsed to the floor, clutching their ears and I could only guess that Present Mic was screeching. For a second they let go of their ears but clutched onto them again as I guessed Present Mic started screeching again.

I was admittedly nervous for her, wondering how they were going to conquer this one without having their ears blown off. "Are you nervous for her?" Yaoyorozu teased next to me. I glanced at her with a stern look in my eye but she just chuckled again. Both Jirou and (y/n) seemed to be talking to each apparently without getting hurt by Present Mic's cries, and it made me wonder what they could be talking about. After a few minutes however they were back to clutching their ears until suddenly (y/n)'s pained face turned into one with a bright smile.

She started digging, and I wondered what she had planned. As there were no cameras underground we couldn't see what she or Jirou were up to as they apparently carried on moving underground. They had vanished for a couple of minutes now and Midoriya was mumbling away as usual. Then we saw movement on the monitor that was pointing at Present Mic, and what we saw almost made Midoriya and I keel over. (y/n) had jumped out of the ground and kicked Present Mic right where the sun doesn't shine.

Both Midoriya and I winced as (y/n) and Jirou high-fives each other, running through the gate to pass. "That's one way to pass an exam," Recovery Girl said, shrugging. Soon Jirou came through the door, and Yaoyorozu immediately approached her, Recovery Girl too as they tended to her ears.

"Where's (y/n)?" I asked Jirou.

"Oh she's in the waiting room bit," she said, pointing towards the door. I decided to go out and congratulate her on her passing, and it was the perfect opportunity to sit with her and talk a bit. I spotted her sitting on her own, her head in her hands so I approached her carefully.

"You did great out there," I started by saying.

"T-thanks, Todoroki," she mumbled, still looking at the ground.

"I was watching in the monitor room, your sense of direction whilst underground is pretty incredible," I praised, hoping to get something out of her. She mumbled another 'thanks' before I noticed her ears were bleeding immensely, it running into her hair and dripping down her face. "(y/n), your ears!"

"Yeah I know, they're pretty bad," she mumbled awkwardly.

"You have to go see Recovery Girl, she's only in the other room," I said but she shook her head, still not looking up at me, making me slightly annoyed.

"I'm sure it'll stop in a minute," she said but I knew that was a lie. I huffed, then without thinking I grabbed her hand and started dragging her towards Recovery Girl. "H-hey!" She exclaimed, surprised by my sudden action.

"They're sensitive aren't they? You have to get them seen to," I said as we walked, refusing to let go of her. By the way she started moving her arm however I knew something was wrong, and turned back to her to see her white as a ghost and starting to stumble. She must've gotten dizzy from the blood, so immediately I held onto her waist keeping her upright and ignoring my pounding heart. I brought her into the monitor room and heard Uraraka gasp.

"Ah, (l/n)! Jirou told me you had injured your ears, you should've come to see me straight away," Recovery Girl scolded. I put her down on one of the beds in the room as she was seen to, Yaoyorozu then approaching me and asking if she was okay. (y/n) then passed out, making me even more worried as I approached my crush and held onto her hand. "Todoroki, she's going to be fine, it's just a case of squeamishness that's all," Recovery Girl said and I nodded.

"She'll be okay," Yaoyorozu comforted me but I refused to leave (y/n)'s side.

Five: Iida

It was a few days after the exams, and we were all waiting for our exam results however Aizawa announced that we wouldn't be receiving them for another couple of days. I glanced over to (y/n) who seemed nervous, biting at her nails as she looked on at Aizawa with anticipation. The bell rang and everyone stood up, packing away their bags, Aizawa reminding us about the homework he had set us.

I was distracted however, my mind desperately wondering whether or not I should approach (y/n) and ask her on a date, something Yaoyorozu had been pressuring me to do since the day she found out my crush on the bunny girl at the beach. Slowly putting my belongings back in my bag, my thoughts whirling quickly, I quickly glanced at her deciding giving her a smile would be a good start. She looked over to me and blushed wildly, her eyes wide but I was snapped from my trance when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Yaoyorozu standing there with her usual suggestive smirk on her face. I rolled my eyes. "What?"

"Just the way you were looking at her, it was cute," she smiled.

"Keep your voice down!" I hissed at her but she just chuckled a bit, but suddenly her face fell. "Er... Todoroki?"

"Yeah?" I asked, confused by her sudden change in attitude. I then realised she wasn't looking me, but just over my shoulder so I turned to see Iida approaching (y/n) carefully. I furrowed my eyebrows, getting a little protective despite me having no right to.

"Hey Iida, what's up?" (y/n) asked him as she turned to see him.

"Um... (y/n), I was wondering if maybe you'd - erm - perhaps like to go grab a bite to eat... with me, sometime... maybe... a-as a date?" He asked cautiously. My stomach dropped and I couldn't help the slight anger spread through my body. My heartbeat excelled rapidly, and despite Iida being my friend I just wanted to go over there and stand protectively in front of her, letting her know she was supposed to be mine. What hurt even more however was what she said next.

"I'd love to," she had mumbled, blushing and wearing a slight smile. I could practically feel Yaoyorozu's pitiful look behind me but I refused to look at her, just simply looking at the scene unfolding in front of me in horror.

"Can I walk you home?" He asked politely, something which I had planned to ask her.

"Of course you can, if it's not too much trouble for you," she said. It was too much for me. I couldn't watch on anymore. I gritted my teeth and stormed past the pair of them, not caring if they saw me as anger consumed my entire body. My fists clenched and ignoring everything around me, I stormed home just desperate to have some time to myself. Thankfully my father wasn't home but my brother did attempt to ask me what was wrong. I walked straight past him and slammed my door shut making it clear I didn't want to be disturbed.

- Timeskip -

I was trying desperately to forget about (y/n) and Iida, but I found it difficult to not think about them as a happy couple. Maybe he'd be able to treat her better then I could but the thought of that killed me. I don't know how I had managed to get this hung up over the bunny-quirked girl.

I packed my bag ready to visit my mother, hoping that she'd be able to distract me. She knew how I felt about (y/n), as she was the only person I could openly talk to about the situation so I was hoping I could either vent all my pent up emotion or I could be completely distracted from the whole situation. Mum had also requested that for the next time I visit her, I bring her her favourite ice cream flavour.

Walking silently down the street listening to the sound of cars passing I headed towards the ice cream parlour mum and I always used to visit when I was younger and let off of training. I ignored my thoughts of (y/n) and Iida as I walked all the way there, opening the door to the parlour. Inside however made all my feelings of anger and jealously rush back as I saw (y/n) and Iida sat in a booth, her feeding him ice cream.

Iida noticed me first, calling over to me with a greeting making (y/n) turn around sharply to me staring at the pair of them. It hurt, seeing my crush on a date with another man, especially when that other man was a friend of mine. I had to get out of there, not able to look at either of them for any longer and completely forgetting about my mothers ice cream. That's it, she was gone before I had a chance to ask her to be mine, and now she was going to be with Iida, grow with him, marry him, become a hero couple...

When I ended up rambling to my mum about this, she told me I was thinking way too much into it, and I just had to see on Monday if they were even a couple or not. I probably was thinking too much into it but jealousy was still sparking inside of me.

Six: The Gym

Thankfully when the week started again I had learnt that (y/n) and Iida hadn't gotten together but remained close friends. Knowing that she could be taken from my grasp at any opportunity spurred me on to get into gear and attempt to ask her out, yet I had absolutely no idea how. Thankfully I had Yaoyorozu to help me.

The pair of us were sat alone outside of the dorms one night so we could have some privacy as we spoke about the subject. "Todoroki, I've seen the way she looks at you, she really does like you! And I think you're the reason she and Iida didn't end up getting together," she said.

"You think I'm the reason?"

"Well I'm just speculating but I think that she didn't say yes to him in the end because she has feelings for you and obviously didn't want to hurt Iida. Maybe she felt like she could forget her feelings but when you ran into them at the ice cream parlour perhaps she realised she couldn't? She's interested in you Todoroki, and I think you need to ask her to be your girlfriend," she advised. I thought for a moment, taking in what she had said about (y/n) and Iida.

"Perhaps," was all I said, still deep in thought. Yaoyorozu just sighed.

"Listen, I think you just need to get her on her own at some point soon, hang out together and then slowly tell her how you feel. Maybe ask her if she wants to spend lunch with you, and then after a while of talking and getting comfortable, you tell her the truth," she said.

"And you think that'd work? That she'd accept me?" I asked and she nodded.

"Yes, she will. Anyway, I'm going to head to bed now, goodnight Todoroki," she said, standing and heading back towards the dorm.

"Right, goodnight," I said as she went. I stayed sat there on the grass, looking up at the darkening sky, knowing I would have to do this sooner rather then later. I decided to head to bed myself however sleep alluded me no matter how much I tried. I tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable but nerves were filling my body as I thought of ways I could ask her out. Yaoyorozu's determination that (y/n) returned my feelings had boosted my confidence in the situation a little bit, but I still couldn't sleep.

Deciding that I wasn't going to get to sleep, I packed a bag and headed over to the gym to blow off some steam. When I reached the building I climbed up the stairs towards the floor I'd always work out on, but I had to suddenly stop as I heard grunting and punching. Slowly I approached the door, activating my ice quirk, and peered through the door. There, punching and kicking at a punching bag, was (y/n). Immediately I deactivated my quirk and couldn't help but blush bright red at what she was wearing.

She had on a tight purple sports bra and tight black shorts. The way she was built made me blush even more as I couldn't help but stare at her abs and legs. I needed to snap myself out of my stare but a big part of me couldn't. Suddenly the punching bag was kicked so hard it flew off of the hook landing on the other side of the room. That's when she went to collect another punching bag, actually lifting it and hooking it onto the ceiling with ease, leaving me gobsmacked. She kept at it, kicking the punching bags with her powerful legs, sweat making her skin gleam. After a while she had managed to kick all six punching bags to the ground, but she turned around and I was soon discovered.

(y/n) jumped and paused, staring at me as I was staring at her. "Wow, (y/n), that was incredible," I praised, gesturing the punch bags on the floor. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, I just couldn't help but watch."

"O-oh... um-,"

It was then that I had realised what I had said. "That came out much creepier then I intended it to," I said awkwardly, rubbing the back of my head. "I didn't expect anyone to be here so late."

"Oh I come in here every night to blow off some steam and try and keep my legs strong," She mumbled timidly. I thought back to mine and Yaoyorozu's conversation from earlier, and about how we needed to hang out alone together and build up a comfortable environment between us, and now was the perfect opportunity.

"Well do you fancy working out together? As we're both here?" I suggested, trying to remain confident.

"Y-yeah, okay," she nodded to my delight. I couldn't help but smile a little, glad I could finally spend some decent alone time with her. I dropped my bag to the floor then approached her in the middle of the room.

"So what do you focus on when you're here?" I asked, starting on my warm up.

"A bit of everything really, I try my best to keep my core strength up and of course I keep my leg strength up, what about you?" She asked.

"It's mainly core and arms for me," I said simply. I saw her blush a little which made me smile. She helped me with my warm up, with a few of the more difficult exercises I had to do and it seemed as though she was a personal trainer. Whilst we were exercising together we began talking casually and laughing together, us both feeling more and more comfortable in each others company. She seemed to be less and less timid too, opening up and coming out of her shell which made me feel special as she was only usually like that with Uraraka. I felt happy being around her, being able to talk freely and to joke around with her felt good.

"I bet you can't do as many sit ups on the bar as I can do chin ups," I decided to challenge her with a smile.

"Oh yeah? What are we betting? Because you may as well give it me now," she teased making me raise my eyebrows, quite surprised by her confidence.

"Okay, how about the winner gets to ask the loser one question that they have to answer completely truthfully?" I suggested.

"You're on!" We both set ourselves up on the bars, and on the count of three we started. I didn't appreciate how much of a challenge this would be, as I looked to my left to see her repeating her sit ups with ease. I began to fall behind her but refused to give up, ignoring the searing pain in my arms as I attempted to lift my body up a few more times. "You can give up you know," she teased.

"N-no-," I grunted, wondering how the hell she managed to keep on going. My strength was slowly burning out as I couldn't keep up with her, the searing pain deciding enough was enough. I let go of the bar and fell to the floor, collapsing on my back and giving my arms a well deserved break. "How the hell did you do that?" I asked her, panting rapidly but very impressed by her skills and fitness.

"Practice," she said simply, flipping around and landing her feet on the floor elegantly. "Looks like I win the bet!"

"Hm, yeah, so what's your question?" I asked, reaching for my water bottle and drinking as much as I could. She stood silently, apparently thinking deeply but she seemed bothered by something, then walking away from me to her bag. "(y/n)?"

"Please be honest," she said suddenly, walking back towards me with a water bottle in her hand.

"Of course, it was part of the bet wasn't it?" I smiled, trying to comfort her. She let out a breathy laugh before she asked her question.

"Todoroki... do you like - as in romantically - anyone in our class?" She had asked and immediately I froze, staring down at my crush. She seemed to be frozen too but I knew now was the time to be honest.

"Yes, I do," I said simply, unable to the stop the blush spreading across my face.

"Is it Yaoyorozu?" She suddenly asked throwing me a bit off guard.

"Ah-ah, only one question remember?" I decided to tease a bit but for a split second her face filled with pain before she wore a fake and hollow smile. Immediately I knew I had said the wrong thing, and knew I should've just confessed my love for her.

"R-right," she whispered. "I think I'm finished for the night, that competition really took it out of me," she said but I knew she was lying. I couldn't let her leave without telling her the truth, this was the perfect opportunity so I wasn't going to let it slip from my hands however what I ended up doing didn't include words.

Just as she was about to turn away I grabbed ahold of her wrist without thinking, pulled her back and immediately planted my lips onto hers. I was just as shocked with myself as she was, but still kept up the kiss however one thing began to frighten me: she wasn't kissing back. Quickly I pulled away, utterly embarrassed and feeling quite humiliated, thinking that perhaps both Yaoyorozu and I had read the signs wrong.

"S-sorry... I'm terrible at reading signs, I thought you might've liked me... Yaoyorozu said you did... sorry-," I muttered.

"I do like you!" She suddenly said brightly, causing my heart to stop and my eyes to widen. "I-I do..."

Happiness filled my body and before either of us could stop ourselves, we leaned in and pressed our lips against each others. It felt warm, passionate, loving and I held onto the bunny-quirked girl tightly, not wanting to let her go. Her lips were so sweet and soft it was difficult to break away from them, but we had to part for breath. Our foreheads remained pressed together though, my eyes shut as I basked in this incredible happiness.

"S-so you don't like Yaoyorozu?" She suddenly mumbled timidly. I shot my eyes open in surprise, shaking my head, definitely not wanting her to think that.

"Of course not, at least not in that way... she's been trying to get me to admit my feelings for you to you," I admitted, hoping it would be some comfort to her. I wanted to make sure that (y/n) knew there was nothing going on between Yaoyorozu and I, because she was the only one for me. "I really like you, (y/n)."

"Oh my goodness," she whispered, us both then kissing again. We smiled against each others lips, my heart was beating so rapidly I thought she might be able to feel it against her chest but I couldn't stop kissing her. That was until something started tickling my cheeks and I couldn't help but let out a little chuckle. She pulled immediately away, worried she had done something wrong.

"W-what?"

"Nothing, your whiskers were just tickling my cheeks," I laughed and she blushed bright red, then hiding her face in my chest. We then both agreed we were done in the gym so we headed off to have a quick shower each, then walking back to the dorm hand in hand.

- Timeskip -

I felt someone begin to tap my chest, in an attempt to wake me up. "E-er... Todoroki?" I heard (y/n)'s voice mumble and I opened my eyes to see her cuddled up to my side, her legs across my lap. It had seemed as though last night neither of us went back to our rooms and just decided to crash here until the morning. I smiled down at her, but she nudged her head and I looked up to see we had an audience. Half the class were standing there expectantly, looking on at us.

"What?" I asked them plainly. (y/n) quickly dived her head back into my chest earning an 'Aw' from the girls plus Kirishima and Kaminari. I couldn't help but smile and hold onto her a little tighter, glad that I could finally call her mine.
