Four: The Practical Exams

Mr Aizawa had been preparing us for the practical exams for the past fortnight, however we didn't know the true nature of them until the day arrived. We were to be paired and put against one of the teachers in the UA faculty. I was paired with Jirou, and as we both had quirks that enhanced our hearing, we were put against Present Mic, my least favourite teacher because of his quirk. To make matters worse, Todoroki was paired with Yaoyorozu; it was as if God hated me.

Jirou, being Yaoyorozu's best friend, wanted to watch her in the monitor room so I followed her as we needed to come up with a strategy for beating Present Mic. Fortunately for me Ochaco and Midoriya were also in the monitor room, watching all the screens however what I saw on the screens disheartened me a little. I saw my crush run alongside the sexy dark-haired girl, then stopping to apparently comfort her. Unfortunately, as he was condoling Yaoyorozu he was pulled into a trap made by Aizawa's scarf. Yaoyorozu immediately ran as Todoroki was suspended from a telegraph pole, Aizawa then running after her.

I stared at him trapped in Aizawa's scarf as I held my breath, hoping desperately that he wasn't going to fail because of this rookie mistake. In a way I was kind of thankful when Yaoyorozu came back to rescue him, as it gave him another chance to pass the exam properly. The pair ran through the streets, finding a secluded spot before slowing and planning out their next move. What happened next made me feel incredibly awkward and incredibly jealous, as Yaoyorozu simply took off the top of her hero costume right in front of him. As soon as he saw her he blushed bright red and turned away politely, shifting awkwardly .

Once she was dressed again she approached him so closely that it looked as though she was pressing her body up against him, her breasts poking out of her hero suit and rubbing against his arm. I couldn't handle it, I had to get out of there before I embarrassed myself by crying. I felt pathetic, but my anxiety and self-consciousness was now sky-high I spotted Ochaco look at me sympathetically as I left the monitor room, and I made my way back to the waiting lounge where the rest of the class was.

I slumped down on a chair, trying to ignore Todoroki's blushing face when he caught a glimpse of Yaoyorozu topless. I had my head in my hands, trying to think solely on my exam and how we were going to overcome it but it was difficult to take my mind off of them.

"You ready?" I heard Jirou ask.

"Is it our turn already?" I asked and she nodded.

"Momo and Todoroki have just finished so we need to go get ourselves set up. They passed, how great is that? Momo was awesome," she praised her best friend and I gave a hollow smile.

"Yeah, great... c'mon, lets get going," I said sadly and the pair of us wandered towards our arena: the dense forest. I was trying so hard to hold back my tears as I thought about how brilliant Yaoyorozu was in comparison to me, but I tried not to think about that right now. Right now I had to focus on Jirou, and on Present Mic. 'Jirou...' I thought to myself. 'She's best friends with Yaoyorozu...'

"So how do you wanna approach this?" She asked, suddenly snapping me from my trance.

"I don't know, it's going to be tricky... my guess is he's waiting just outside the gate, and he'll continue screaming in an attempt to stall us until our time runs out," I analysed and she nodded. Suddenly there was an ear-piercing scream, us both collapsing to the ground and clutching onto our ears tightly in a fruitless attempt to drown out the sound. "I didn't know he could be that loud!"

"Neither did I, that's so irrita- AH!" Jirou shouted, as we both hunched over in pain. A minute later the screeching had stopped, and we both looked at each other, utterly hopeless. "We're going to go deaf if this keeps up!"

"This is why he's my least favourite teacher! Do we just power through and use combat when we get to him?" I asked but she shook her head.

"The closer we get to him, the louder his sound waves will be, making it ten times harder for us," she said and I sighed. Thankfully he seemed to stop for a few minutes, as though giving us a chance to come up with a plan. My mind was distracted however...

"Jirou?"

"Call me Kyoka," she said sweetly and I smiled lightly.

"Okay, Kyoka, you're close friends with Yaoyorozu, right?" I asked and she nodded. "Do you know if... if she has a crush on Todoroki? It's just I see the way they act around each other, and they seem very very close..."

"Not that I'm aware off, she hasn't told me that she has, I'm pretty sure they're just close friends," she said with a smile, then nudging my shoulder. "I take it you have a thing for him?"

"N-no! I just... wondered," I lied and she saw straight through me.

"You don't need to worry about Yaoyorozu. I'm pretty sure she just sees him as a friend- OUCH!" She suddenly screamed as Present Mic gave us a times up on coming up with a plan. As I clutched onto my ears, wincing in pain I felt a liquid begin to ooze from them. When the screeching had stopped I pulled my hands away and saw blood dripping from them. I felt it drip onto my hair, it then streaking down my face.

"I-I feel sick," I mumbled, Kyoka noticing. She too had blood dripping from her ears, but not as badly as me.

"We can do this (y/n), we can," she remained confident. We hid behind a giant rock trying to block out at least some of the sound waves, and that's when it hit me.

"Sound doesn't travel well underground!" I suddenly exclaimed and she looked at me, confused. "I can dig us all the way to the gate! You're not claustrophobic, are you?!"

"Well... not really but I don't like-,"

"It was a rhetorical question, follow me!" I said, as I started digging the tunnel fast. She reluctantly followed in my wake, moving out the dirt I was throwing behind me. The sound soon drowned out and we both took a moment to breath.

"I can still hear him but thankfully it doesn't hurt now!" Kyoka said happily.

"I know, it's great isn't it," I breathed.

"(y/n), how do you know we're going the right way?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

"Senses," I responded with simply.

"It's pitch black, I can hardly see a thing!"

"Don't worry, I'm able to see in the dark so just stick close to me and you'll be fine. Plus, it's a one way tunnel," I assured her.

After a few minutes I began to ascend, and once I was a few inches from the surface, I dug myself enough room to manoeuvre in and told my partner to stand back. "Cover your ears, it's gonna get loud," I warned her and she did as she was told. Using my strong legs I kicked myself up at top speed, surfacing and quickly flicking myself around before Mic had time to react, then kicking him where the sun doesn't shine.

He screamed his loudest yet as he collapsed on the floor, but the pain of the scream was worth it as he was crippled on the floor in agony. Kyoka jumped out of the hole I had made, shocked at what I had done but she couldn't help her laugh as we rand through the gate, passing our exam. We left Mic on the ground, him shaking in pure pain as we ran back to the waiting lounge, high-fiving along the way.

"That was so good (y/n)! He's not gonna be able to walk for weeks!" Kyoka laughed evilly.

"I felt horrible for doing it, but he did make both of our ears bleed," I said, pulling tissues from my pocket and handing her one so she could wipe away some of the blood. The doors to the waiting room opened as we approached them, and people came over to congratulate us on our success.

"Quite a harsh move there, (y/n)," Sero said but I simply shrugged.

"He deserved it," Kyoka said, then leaving to head to Recovery Girl who was sat in the monitor room. Throughout the last part of our practical exam I had almost forgotten all about Todoroki and Yaoyorozu, however as soon as I had sat down on the sofas, it all came flooding back to me. I would've gone with Kyoka into the monitor room to see Recovery Girl about my ears, however as the pair of them weren't in the waiting lounge I figured they'd be in there, and I couldn't really face that right now. Instead I sat on my own, wiping away the remaining blood and ignoring the dizziness I was feeling.

"You did great out there," a voice that came from the last person I wanted to talk to sounded.

"T-thanks, Todoroki," I mumbled without looking up.

"I was watching in the monitor room, your sense of direction whilst underground is pretty incredible," he praised, making me blush but I still couldn't bring myself to look up at him. I muttered another 'thanks,' unsure of what else to say. "(y/n), your ears!" He said suddenly.

"Yeah I know, they're pretty bad," I said awkwardly, feeling the blood still trickle down from them. As the dizziness consumed me, I felt my eyesight go blurry and my stomach do backflips.

"You have to go see Recovery Girl, she's only in the other room," he said but I shook my head slightly.

"I'm sure it'll stop in a minute," I mumbled, which was a complete lie. I heard him huff, then felt him suddenly grab my wrist dragging me form the sofa. "H-hey!" I exclaimed, looking up at him and seeing determination written across his face as he dragged me towards the monitor room.

"They're sensitive, aren't they? You have to get them seen to," he said as we walked, him not letting go of my wrist. Before we reached the door however I began to stumble around, my dizziness beginning to take ahold of my body. I stumbled into him and he immediately wrapped his arms around me, almost carrying me towards Recovery Girl. As we entered the room everyone turned to look, a few people gasping.

"Ah, (l/n)! Jirou told me you had injured your ears, you should've come to see me straight away," Recovery Girl scolded. Todoroki took me over to a spare bed, sitting me down as Recovery Girl took charge. The Dekusquad plus Yaoyorozu and Kyoka looked on, Yaoyorozu immediately approaching Todoroki. Her physical closeness to my crush caused jealousy to rise in me even more, but before I saw anything else I had passed out.

Five: Iida

It was a few days after the exams, and we were all nervous as we waited for our results. Aizawa announced that they weren't going to be ready for another couple of days however, making everyone in the class all the more worried. The bell rang and the whole class stood up, packing away their things as Aizawa reminded us all of the homework which was due next week. Everyone responded with a simple 'mm-hm.' I turned and spotted Ochaco talking to Iida, apparently in deep conversation before the pair of them looked towards me. I waved at them with a small smile, Iida suddenly turning away quickly.

I myself looked to my left, and saw Todoroki stand, sending me a glance with his heart-melting smile. I couldn't help but blush dramatically, however Yaoyorozu of course tapped him on the shoulder, seemingly desperate to have a conversation with him. I sighed and went back to my bag, hauling it onto my shoulder. Suddenly however I was stopped by Iida who was standing directly in front of me, a slight blush spreading across his cheeks. "Hey Iida, what's up?"

"Um... (y/n), I was wondering if maybe you'd - erm - perhaps like to go grab a bite to eat... with me, sometime... maybe... a-as a date?" He asked cautiously. I smiled at him, quite surprised and flattered by his request. I suddenly thought about Todoroki, but perhaps this was a good thing for me as it may help me to get over him. I paused for a moment, thinking about my true crush but trying to shake the thought of him from my head.

"I'd love to," I mumbled, and his navy coloured eyes lit up.

"Can I walk you home?" He asked politely, bowing a little.

"Of course you can, if it's not too much trouble for you," I said and he shook his head, holding his arm out for me to walk ahead of him. Just as I was about to however, I almost collided head on with the red and white haired boy who completely ignored me and walked briskly to the door. As Iida walked me home, we arranged a date for the coming Sunday, at an ice cream parlour fairly near his home. He assured me it was the best ice cream in all of Tokyo, so it's fair to say I was excited.

- Timeskip -

I waited nervously outside the ice cream parlour for my date, hoping that I wouldn't let my feelings for Todoroki get in the way. I spotted Iida approaching and felt my hands begin to sweat with nerves. "Hello (y/n), are you alright?" He asked politely, offering out his arm like a true gentleman.

"Y-yes, I'm fine thank you. Shall we?" I mumbled awkwardly, taking his arm as he nodded and led me into the ice cream parlour. A small part of this felt wrong. Like I shouldn't be here, or at least I shouldn't be here with him as a date. We both sat down at a table after ordering our sundaes, and my mind kept on unwillingly wandering over to the red and white haired boy. Iida began talking about school, congratulating me on how well Kyoka and I had done in our fight against Present Mic. I was only half listening, nodding and laughing at the right times. Our large sundaes came, standing tall in front of us.

"Here, do you want to try some?" He asked, holding a little bit of his out on a spoon. I smiled awkwardly, leaning across the table. It did taste delicious, and I knew I had to do the same for him so I scooped up a bit of mine and held it across the table. I couldn't help but laugh a little as he got a drop on his chin, and I pointed it out to him before taking a napkin and wiping it away for him.

"Nice?" I asked and he nodded.

"Oh, Todoroki!" Iida said, looking over my shoulder. I whirled around quickly to see him staring at the pair of us with furrowed eyebrows and a slightly pained expression. His eyes were darting between the pair of us as Iida attempted to make conversation with him. My heart fell out of my chest when I saw him suddenly turn and walk away quickly, back out of the ice cream shop and away down the road. I didn't know what to think but I did suddenly stand up, watching him go, through the window of the parlour seeing him pinching the bridge of his nose and looking down at the ground. I had to put my hand on the table to steady myself, and Iida stood up behind me gently sitting me back down again. In front of me Iida sighed. "(y/n)... I've seen the way you and Todoroki act around each other... you like him, don't you?"

I looked up at him, surprised he'd say it so bluntly. "I-I... I don't know," I lied, barely audible.

"I think I do. I think I knew you were attracted to one another before I asked you on this date, I guess a small part of me just hoped it wasn't true but judging by just now... I think it is true. You shouldn't be on this date with me, you should be going to get Todoroki," Iida said, leaving me utterly gobsmacked.

"Iida..."

"It's okay, really," he said with a smile. He stood up and pulled me into a tight hug, his warmth pleasing me.

"Thank you Iida," I mumbled into his chest.

"No need," he said, kissing my head.

"You know you are still one of my best friends," I said, looking up to him.

"Good, I better be," he said making me chuckle. "I'll walk you home at least."

"I... I don't think he likes me in that way though," I admitted. "He's much more suited for someone like Yaoyorozu, wouldn't you say?"

"No, I wouldn't say. I've seen the way he acts around you, he always seems to get quite flustered whereas he and Yaoyorozu just seem like friends. Plus, why wouldn't he like you? You're smart, beautiful, kind," Iida said with a smile which made me blush a million shades of red.

"W-wow, thank you Iida... I-I personally don't think I'm any of those things but... thank you," I mumbled. He simply smiled as the rest of the walk back to my house was focussed on school things, and the upcoming summer camp.

Six: The Gym

Like almost every evening, I snuck out of the dorms and headed over to the on campus gym. It was a huge place with several floors as it had to accommodate the entire school, however this late at night it was always deserted as it was supposed to be closed. I'd always head straight to the floor with the strength building equipment on it, as that was my favourite kind of work out. After the multiple sightings of Yaoyorozu getting closer to Todoroki, I had plenty of steam to blow off and this was the best place to do it.I was thankful that it was the gym that helped me relax, as under my top I had a strong core and was determined to keep my six-pack up. My arms were pretty strong too, and because of my quirk my legs were naturally strong.

I began with an advanced core workout starting simply with crunches and sit ups, then ending with sit ups from a bar. Repeating my entire core workout three times had worked myself a bit of a sweat, but now it was time to focus on my arms and legs. Out of the cupboard I dragged in total six punching bags, laying them next to each other one by one, taking the first and attaching it to the hook on the ceiling.

Immediately I started punching at it, letting out all my anger and upset. The more I thought about Yaoyorozu and Todoroki laughing together and having a good time, the more I got worked up. I started kicking the punching bag, harder and harder. Picturing him with his arm around her, picturing her snuggling close to him, picturing the pair of them kissing in the common room made my anger topple over, and I kicked the punching bag so hard that it flew off the hook to the other side of the room.

I hadn't realised it but tears were streaking down my face as I panted heavily, staring at the bag lying on the floor. Instead of going to collect it, I picked up another and began kicking at it, powering up my legs. It had been about an hour and all six of the punching bags had been knocked off of the hooks and were now lying on the ground. I was panting heavily, sweat dripping from my brow as I turned around to head back to the bars to do some chin ups and begin my arm workout however something, or rather someone, standing at the door made me jump out of my skin.

Todoroki stood there, simply staring at me, apparently absolutely gobsmacked. I suddenly felt exposed as I was only in an exercise bra and shorts. "Wow, (y/n), that was incredible," he praised, gesturing the bags on the floor. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, I just couldn't help but watch."

"O-oh... um-,"

"That came out much creepier then I intended it to," he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "I didn't expect anyone to be here so late."

"Oh I come in here every night to blow off some steam and try and keep my legs strong," I mumbled, trying not to let my self-consciousness of my body take over what little confidence I had.

"Well do you fancy working out together? As we're both here?" He suggested, taking me by complete surprise. I gulped, practically hearing Ochaco's shouts of encouragement.

"Y-yeah, okay," I nodded. He smiled and dropped his bag by the door, then approaching me.

"So what do you focus on when you're here?" He asked, beginning his warm up.

"A bit of everything really, I try my best to keep my core strength up and of course I keep my leg strength up, what about you?"

"It's mainly core and arms for me," he said nonchalantly. I couldn't stop myself from blushing as I saw him slightly flex his arms, and I had to shake my head and look away quickly before he saw. He asked me to help him a bit with his warm up, simply by holding his feet down as he did sit ups and supporting his neck as he was doing scissors. Sat like this, my heart was beating rapidly as it seemed as though we were a couple working out together. He smiled up at me as he kept up his leg exercises, and I couldn't help but smile back.

As we continued exercising together we began to laugh together, and I felt more and more comfortable in his presence. The nerves I'd usually feel seemed to vanish, and as we carried on working out together it felt like a normality.

"I bet you can't do as many sit ups on the bar as I can do chin ups," he suddenly challenged me with a smile.

"Oh yeah? What are we betting? Because you may as well give it me now," I teased.

"Okay, how about the winner gets to ask the loser one question that they have to answer completely truthfully?" He suggested. I thought for a moment, trying to think of questions I could ask him if I won, and I realised that it was the perfect opportunity to find out his true feelings.

"You're on!"

We both set ourselves up next to each other, and on the count of three we began. I knew I was good at this as my core and leg strength was good, however I couldn't help but look to my right and see Todoroki's flexed arm muscles as he kept on pulling himself up. I tried not to let myself get distracted and focussed on my sit ups. When I reached fifty he was beginning to fall behind, but only by three. As I reached the seventies however he was beginning to slow quite a lot, and I could see the strain on his face. I smirked, knowing that now my chances were pretty high. "You can give up you know," I teased, refusing to grimace despite the burning pain in my abdomen.

"N-no-," he grunted, trying hard to keep up. I smirked, carrying on. Suddenly I heard a drop and saw him on his back, his arms lying lazily by his side as he was panting rapidly. "How the hell did you do that?"

"Practice," I shrugged, flipping round and landing on the floor. "Looks like I win the bet!"

"Hm, yeah, so what's your question?" He asked, reaching for his water bottle and almost downing it. This was where I suddenly felt nervous, wondering whether I should ask him the question or all. He sensed my nervousness judging by the look of curiousness on his face. I stood up, walking over and getting my water bottle silently, still deep in thought. "(y/n)?"

"Please be honest," I said, walking back to him and finding him standing up.

"Of course, it was part of the bet wasn't it?" He smiled and I let out a laugh, then breathing in deeply.

"Todoroki... do you like - as in romantically like - anyone in our class?"

He froze, apparently unsure on how to react. I stood frozen too, waiting with baited breath for any kind of answer. His face softened a bit as he sighed, looking towards the ground. "Yes, I do."

I immediately looked up at him, seeing a blush on his face. "Is it Yaoyorozu?" I asked before I could stop myself.

"Ah-ah, only one question remember?" He said, smiling. I gulped awkwardly, presenting him with a fake smile.

"R-right," I whispered, fiddling with the lid of my water bottle. He simply stared at me for a moment, apparently unable to take his eyes off of me. My heart rate had excelled to an abnormal rate and it wasn't because of the workout. "I think I'm finished for the night, that competition really took it out of me," I lied, knowing I could've gone on for another half an hour or so. Just as I was about to turn around and head to my bag I felt a grip on my wrist, a pull to turn me around and then lips planted on mine.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack as I stood frozen, unable to move as I tried to comprehend the fact that my crush was kissing me. All too soon however he pulled away, completely red in the face and refusing to look at me.

"S-sorry... I'm terrible at reading signs, I thought you might've liked me... Yaoyorozu said you did... sorry-,"

"I do, I do like you!" I blurted out before I could stop myself. I realised then that I didn't kiss him back whilst he was kissing me, hence his apology. He looked up at me, a mix of surprise and relief on his features. "I-I do..."

We acted at the same time and brought our lips together, kissing passionately. I cupped his cheeks as he wrapped his arms around my waist, his tight grip apparently refusing to let go of me. I smiled against his lips, unable to believe what was happening as we got lost in each others passion. His lips were warm and inviting, but we had to part for breath. We stayed in each others hold, our foreheads against each others and our eyes closed.

"S-so... you don't like Yaoyorozu?" I mumbled timidly, keeping my eyes closed. He shook his head against mine.

"Of course not, at least not in that way... she's been trying to get me to admit my feelings for you to you," he whispered. I opened my eyes in surprise and were met with his heterochromatic ones. "I really like you, (y/n)."

"Oh my goodness," I whispered, unable to stop myself as I brought my lips up to his again. We smiled against each others lips as we continued kissing, my whole body full of happiness I had never felt before. I heard him suddenly laugh a little though, so I pulled away, nervous I had done something wrong. "W-what?"

"Nothing, your whiskers were just tickling my cheek," he laughed making me blush a brighter red then I already was and hide my face in his chest. We then both agreed that we were done in the gym, and after taking a quick shower each we headed back to the dorms hand in hand.

- Timeskip -

Gently my eyelids fluttered open, and I found I was in a familiar location but it wasn't my room. I was on one of the sofas in the common room, pressed against something very warm. I remembered everything that happened last night, and looked to see my legs over the lap of Todoroki and my body pressed against his side, my head tucked against his chest as his arm was around me, holding me tightly. It was then however that I noticed we weren't alone. Half of the class stood around us, looking at us expectantly. "E-er... Todoroki," I mumbled, staring at my classmates as I woke him up.

"Hm?" He mumbled groggily, rubbing his eyes. He looked straight down at me with softness in his eyes, but I nudged my head towards our audience. He however didn't seem fazed by them, and simply just said "What?"

I blushed, hiding my head in his chest once more as I heard giggles from the girls, and little did I know that both Yaoyorozu and Ochaco were thinking exactly the same thing: 'Finally.'
