39: Jealousy Part One - (y/n)'s POV
I've reached five hundred votes! I'm so unbelievably blown away by all of the support from you guys, it means so much to me, it really does.
This one is going to be slightly different, and I'll explain how. I'll be writing this oneshot from both (y/n)'s POV and Todoroki's POV, and it'll almost be like a mini book. So, because it's quite long, I've sorted it into six mini titled sections, the first three of (y/n)'s POV in this chapter and the final three of (y/n)'s POV in the next chapter. I'll then do the same for Todoroki's POV. I hope this will make sense as you read!
One: The Start of UA
Two: The Sports Festival
Three: The Beach Day
Quirk: Bunny
One: The Start of UA
I had only just managed to get into UA, with my best friend and neighbour, Ochaco Uraraka. We were both so excited for our first day, however as it approached my anxiety began to kick in. Ochaco was used to comforting me and helping me overcome my bad anxiety, so she knew how to handle it as the first day loomed nearer.
Finally it was time to change into our brand new, incredibly smart UA uniform, my mum desperately wanting a first day picture with the two of us. Once we had finally managed to get out of my mums grasp, we shouted a goodbye and ran down the street, keen to get to the tall glass building. As we ran down the street however, I saw the multitude of other students walking towards its gates and immediately stopped. "Huh? (y/n)? What's wrong?"
"I can't do this," I mumbled, staring up at the intimidating school.
"(y/n), sure you can! You passed the exams didn't you? And your quirk is amazing!" Ochaco said, nudging my arm with her elbow.
"I-I don't know..." I said, looking down at the ground. She took my hand and helped me walk towards the school, towards the doors with the numbers one, two and three plastered on them. It was then that Ochaco spotted someone she apparently knew, and ran up to greet him, leaving me standing alone. Immediately I froze, unsure of how to act and terrified of embarrassing myself. It was then that someone caught my eye, a handsome looking boy with striking red and white hair, and a scar covering his left eye. I could feel myself blush bright red as he walked past without glancing anywhere else but the direction he was walking in. I was thankful when Ochaco snapped me out of my daze and announced that we ought to be heading to class.
A lot of the students in class 1-A were already in the classroom, talking to each other and getting to know one another. I stuck close to Ochaco, her talking to people and being the friendly girl she was whilst I had difficulty even saying hello to my new classmates. It was then that I spotted the same boy from earlier, sat at the back of the room. As I glanced over to him, he happened to look directly at me so I turned my head away sharply, hoping he didn't notice.
"Hey, you're pretty cute, I love your ears," a voice suddenly said behind me making me squeak. I turned around quickly to see a boy standing there with electric yellow hair which had a black lightning bolt running through it, and electric yellow eyes. "I'm Kaminari, Denki Kaminari."
"O-oh... I'm (y/n) (l/n)," I said timidly, looking away from him and trying to find my best friend but she was talking to a girl with long black hair and big eyes.
"Cute name. I can't wait to get to know you more. My quirks electricity," he said, creating sparks in his hands. "I really like your quirk, do you have a tail too?"
"Y-yeah," I said awkwardly, turning a little so he could see it poking out of the tail hole in my skirt. "I-I'm gonna find my seat, excuse me," I added, making the excuse to leave him. Thankfully I was sat next to Ochaco at the back of the room, but that also meant I was sat next to the handsome boy. He glanced at me again but didn't say anything, and didn't show any sign of emotion. I was thankful when our strange rugged teacher came in and ordered everyone to sit down, as now we could actually begin our schooling.
- Timeskip -
We had been at UA for a week now, and I had gotten to know everyones name with the help of Ochaco who would do most of the talking. Since then, I had learnt that the handsome red and white haired boy was called Shoto Todoroki, and he was definitely the reserved and quiet type. He kept to himself and the only time he had actually spoken to me was when he introduced himself. It was a simple introduction, but his smooth voice and handsome features was all I could think about. Meanwhile Ochaco was trying hard to get me to come out of my shell and to talk to other people, but my anxiety was telling me to stay inside. Unfortunately however, due to some of the exercises we had to do to train our quirks, there were times when the class was watching me like in the heroes versus villains exercise. I did well according to All Might, and he praised my strength I had worked so hard to gain but I still felt incredibly awkward.
Aizawa soon announced that each class needed representatives: a head and a vice. Him being the lazy teacher he was claimed he was going to have a nap whilst we all decided as a class, and it made me wonder how he even became a teacher at this prestigious school.
"I propose we hold a democratic vote!" Iida shouted, drowning out everyones shouts about wanting to be class rep.
"(y/n)! You ought to try and get people to vote for you!" Ochaco said, standing up enthusiastically.
"Please tell me you're joking," I said, raising my eyebrows.
"C'mon, I think it'd really help you gain just a little bit of confidence! You'll have everyones support!"
"I don't know Ochaco, I don't think anyone would vote for me..."
"Sure they will! You're much more capable then you give yourself credit for, All Might himself said that," she said with a wink.
"I-I suppose but-,"
"No buts - hey everyone! (y/n)'s interested in becoming the rep!" Ochaco shouted.
"Ochaco!"
"She's got my vote for sure," Kaminari said, winking at me. I shuffled awkwardly, looking to the seat next to me, hoping that if I was going to get any votes it'd be from Todoroki. Iida organised all of the ballot papers, handed them out and collected them back in once everyone had casted their vote. Annoyingly he read out who voted for who, and when he read the fact I had voted for Todoroki aloud, I hid my head immediately in my arms. I could feel his surprised stare on me but I refused to lift my head.
Once all the votes had been read out, it was revealed that Ochaco and indeed Kaminari had voted for me, and Todoroki had voted for the sexy, tall, black-haired girl that sat the other side of him called Yaoyorozu. She intimidated me so much, and she had managed to rack up enough votes to get the spot of vice representative. Midoriya was voted as the head representative, but he soon gave up that title, giving it to Iida.
I don't know why it bothered me so much that Todoroki had voted for Yaoyorozu, I guess a small part of me may have been hoping to get his vote as I voted for him, and I guess I was also hoping to maybe get the role so that it could boost my confidence like Ochaco had said. It was typical for someone like Yaoyorozu to get more votes though, someone who's slim, has soft looking skin, perfectly shaped eyes, silky black hair, big breasts and has long legs. Ochaco sent me a sad smile but I shook my head, telling her I was fine. It may be best this way, I might not have truly been ready for the role anyway.
Two: The Sports Festival
The past few weeks at UA had improved since the USJ attack. As scary as it was it brought our class together, us getting closer to one another and despite me almost being crushed by one of the villains (but being saved by Kirishima), I had gained more confidence. I was comfortable around most of my peers in the class, however as the days went by Ochaco became more and more convinced that I was developing a crush on the one and only Shoto Todoroki.
"I really don't know what you're talking about," I said to my best friend as we were getting changed into our PE uniforms.
"C'mon, you glance at him all the time! He is handsome, but he's quiet," she mumbled, making sure none of the other girls could overhear us.
"Listen, I don't know how I feel about him, I barely know him! Yeah I think he's cute, and I like his mysterious attitude, and his skills, and I'd like to be able to talk to him but that doesn't necessarily mean I like him like that!" I explained but Ochaco simply stepped back, folding her arms and raising her eyebrows expectantly. I had realised what I had just said, and it hit me all at once. Did I like him in that way? "Oh shut up." I scoffed, trying to ignore her smirk. How could I like him when I barely know him?
Ignoring that conversation, I decided to focus on what was going to happen in less then an hour - the UA Sports Festival. The entire first years had gotten together to compete in this televised event, and I couldn't be more nervous. Then on top of that Ochaco had to add the pressure of me figuring out my feelings for Todoroki.
Unfortunately, I didn't do well on the first challenge, the obstacle course. I ended up coming quite far behind everyone else. Ochaco managed to do much better, she seemed surprised with how well she did but I knew she could do it, she was a great hero already. Midnight had gotten all those who qualified for the next round together, and explained the rules behind the cavalry battle.
Once Midnight mentioned we were going to be in teams of our choosing, I turned to Ochaco who whispered to me that I ought to approach Todoroki. I nodded my head timidly and pulling together all of my confidence, I slowly began to approach him. He however turned his back directly at me, and walked in the opposite direction, recruiting Yaoyorozu to finish off his group. I stopped in my tracks feeling a little humiliated and quickly walked back to Ochaco, hoping no one had seen my awkward rejection. I joined her team which consisted of Tokoyami and of course, Midoriya.
I tried to ignore Todoroki's team but it was difficult as they were hot on our heels, trying to get the prized headband Midoriya was wearing. What made it even more difficult for me was seeing Yaoyorozu with her top undone, almost trying to show off her sexy body and obviously as they were on the same team Todoroki had to talk to her, but the way he seemed to get so close to her just made me feel incredibly self-conscious. Todoroki actually managed to grab Midoriya's headband, however thankfully Dark Shadow pulled a number of other headbands from Todoroki's neck meaning we had enough points to pass. Once I found out that the third round was one on one battles, my stomach dropped. "I can't go out there on my own," I immediately said to my best friend when we were backstage and out of sight.
"(y/n), you're going to do fine, you're unbelievably powerful!" She enforced.
"N-no, it's televised, people are watching all over the country, I can't do this, I can't," I kept on muttering repeatedly.
"(y/n), you need to snap out of it. When you walk up onto that battleground it's just going to be you and your opponent. Everything else doesn't matter, and I'm sure you're going to do great! I have complete faith in you, I'll be cheering you on all the way," she said, opening my arms up for me to jump into them. We hugged tightly, giving each other confidence and watching the other one on one battles, waiting for our own to begin.
My first match was against Iida, and as I approached the pitch I saw him smiling politely at me. I suspected that his first move was going to be running straight for me, so when Midnight blew the whistle I jumped high into the air, and kept up my jumps, dodging each of his running attacks. He was fast but my reactions were faster. Ever so slowly and without him realising, I was leading him closer and closer to the edge of the pitch, this giving me the perfect opportunity to kick him out. Once he realised my plan he was on the very edge of the pitch, and I was able to execute it perfectly, not wanting to hurt him but kicking him with enough force to knock him out. The crowd cheered my name loudly as Midnight announced me the winner.
Normally people would enjoy their victory but I couldn't face the attention, and immediately ran off the pitch and back into the tunnel out of sight, my face burning and my body shaking. From the tunnel I watched Todoroki's amazing battle with Sero, if you could call it a battle. He truly was powerful as he managed to freeze half of the stadium.
My next match was against Shiozaki from class 1-B, and I managed to use the same tactics with her as I did with Iida. It was a much shorter match, and once I had knocked her out the whole crowd cheered again, and like before I ran off stage to the stadium, keen to get out of sight and just get some refreshments. With a cup of water in my hand I walked to the waiting lounge and looked up at the leaderboard; what I saw made my heart stop and made the cup slip from my hand, water splashing all over the ground. My next match was against Todoroki.
"Ochaco I can't do this," I said desperately to my best friend.
"Sure you can (y/n), I believe in you!"
"I'm really certain I can't!"
"Just forget about your feelings for him for one moment and focus on the fact it's a battle-,"
"I don't have feelings for him!"
"Yes you do, you can't hide it from me," she said with raised eyebrows, causing me to blush. One of the teachers came to collect me from the waiting lounge and I could feel my body physically shake, Ochaco giving me one last thumbs up before she heading to the stadium seating. I approached the pitch, my whole body going numb as I saw Todoroki waiting on the opposite side wearing his stoic face, ice already forming on his right side. I could hear people cheering for both of us in the large crowd, and I tried desperately to drown all of that out but it was so difficult. I whimpered pathetically, knowing I was going to be destroyed in this battle.
As soon as the whistle was blown, I jumped, hoping to avoid his first attack. He shot from his feet, creating a small barricade which I landed on and slid down towards him. He shot ice out once again but the power in my legs caused it to shatter, and I managed to land a kick straight on his stomach, sending him back ten metres. He quickly got up however and encased my legs in ice before I had time to dodge. I tried to move as much as I could, breaking free just before an ice wall would've knocked me out. I jumped in between the spikes of ice, then landing a roundhouse kick on him however he managed to freeze my legs as they were in an awkward position, causing me to fall to the floor. He then encased my entire body in a thick layer of ice, too thick for my legs to break through.
"(y/n), are you able to move?" Midnight called out and I embarrassingly shook my head. "(y/n) is unable to move. Todoroki wins!" There were cheers throughout the stadium as Todoroki unfroze me with his fire side, however I was still shivering. He held out his warm hand to help me up, then kept the flames burning to warm me up as he spoke to me.
"Thank you for a good match. You're pretty powerful," he said and I looked up at him quickly, utterly surprised. My cheeks burned bright red, and it may have been the light but I thought I saw his cheeks dust a light pink too.
"Thanks... y-you're - erm - pretty powerful... too," I mumbled, looking anywhere but at him. Before he could say another word I turned and hopped away, out of the view of the crowd and back into the waiting lounge.
"(y/n) that was incredible!" Ochaco exclaimed, bursting through the doors with Midoriya behind her.
"I lost, Ochaco," I sighed but she shook her head.
"Just because you lost doesn't mean you weren't awesome! Really, well done, you definitely did better then Sero!" She squealed loudly.
"Hey!" Sero called from the other side of the room.
"S-sorry!" Ochaco replied, going bright red.
"Yeah, really (y/n), Todoroki is such a hard opponent, you did very well," Midoriya said with a smile.
"Thanks guys," I mumbled quietly.
"And you ought to have seen the way he was staring at you as you bounced away from him," Ochaco said excitedly.
"Ochaco! You live in some kind of fantasy world, I swear," I mumbled under my breath. Midoriya looked between the two of us, apparently completely unaware as to what we were talking about, thank goodness. The door to the lounge opened again and the three of us turned to look at who was coming in but of course it had to be Todoroki followed closely by Yaoyorozu, them both deep in conversation. I hung my head, trying to look anywhere but at them.
"(y/n), he's looking at you," Ochaco whispered discreetly but I simply scoffed.
"He's preoccupied. I need some air," I whispered, my anxiety hitting me like a train and just desperately wanting to be alone.
Three: The Beach Day
I pulled my clothes out of my wardrobe dramatically and threw them all over my bed; I had no idea what to wear. Kaminari, Sero and Mina had organised a class trip to the beach as we didn't have much homework for once. Originally I didn't want to go as I was incredibly self conscious about my body and I hated water but Ochaco pointed out that I didn't have to go in the sea.
"Knock knock knock," I heard her say through my bedroom door, then opening it up to reveal herself wearing a cropped white top and denim shorts with a stitched rose on it.
"Hey, you look cute!" I praised.
"Thanks, I take it you have no idea what you want to wear, huh?" She giggled, looking at my clothes strewn all over my room.
"What I want to wear is my exercise clothes so I can go to the gym but someone won't let me," I said with raised eyebrows.
"Because you're always at the gym and going to the beach is so much more fun!" She said excitedly. "And you'll get to hang out with Todo-,"
"Don't even go there," I sighed, falling back onto my bed. "I'd much rather be lifting weights then splashing around."
"Ugh, you go to the gym all the time, you practically live there, just let loose for today!" She said and I sighed, giving in.
"Fine," I said, but smiled at her beaming face. She took charge and filed through my wardrobe and the clothes I had pulled out, trying to find something for me to wear. She finally found me a white bikini to wear, with denim shorts to go over the top and a camouflage-green baggy top. Once I was changed and my bag was packed, we decided to set off together, waving goodbye to my parents.
"So, are you gonna talk to Todoroki much?" She asked, intrigued.
"Maybe, I don't know... it's not as if anything will happen," I muttered, fiddling with my fingers awkwardly. Since the UA Sports Festival a few weeks ago, Ochaco and I had come to the conclusion that I did indeed have feelings for the red and white haired boy, especially since he had come out of his shell. He had been talking to me a little bit more too, and Ochaco was trying her hardest to convince me that he harboured feelings for me too but I was certain he didn't, judging by the way he was always hanging around Yaoyorozu. If they weren't already together, he definitely was interested in her.
"What? Why not?" Ochaco asked.
"Because he's much not interested in me like that! He's much more interested in Yaoyorozu," I said.
"They don't make a good couple though... you and Todoroki make a good couple," she enforced and I rolled my eyes.
"What about you and Midoriya, huh? Are you going to make a move?" I asked with raised eyebrows and it was her turn to blush.
"I-I... maybe!" She squealed before running ahead. I laughed and ran to catch up with her, us both reaching the beach in no time. As soon as we were there though, anxiety hit me like a train. We were the last of our class to turn up, and I immediately spotted him turning to look at me. I turned bright red and almost hid behind Ochaco as he had his top off already. Of course all the girls looked incredible in their bikinis and swimsuits, making me want to just turn around and walk home.
We walked up and joined the class, everyone saying their hellos whilst I put my bag down next to an empty sun-lounger. The beach was quite busy, but the class had managed to reserve enough sun-loungers for each of us. "C'mon guys! Let's all go in the sea!" Mina suddenly exclaimed excitedly, pointing towards the rippling water. Most people shouted a 'yeah!' In response, but I sat down and filed through my bag to find my book. "(y/n), are you coming?"
"Er - no... you guys go ahead," I mumbled awkwardly, not wanting to strip down to my bikini.
"C'mon (y/n)! You know you secretly want to!" She enforced.
"No Mina, really, I'm okay out here," I said and she shrugged her shoulders before darting towards the sea after the rest of the class.
"Are you sure?" Ochaco mumbled next to me, and I glanced back at Yaoyorozu and Todoroki, as she playfully splashed him with water whilst bouncing, protruding her breasts.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I mumbled, opening up my book. Ochaco sighed and went to join the rest of the girls over in the sea. I flicked through the chapter in my book, glancing up at my class occasionally and really wishing I had the confidence to stand and join them. My anxiety always got in the way, however, and whenever I went to stand I would always sit back down again sadly. Annoyingly I had to glance over at my crush just as he was busy staring at Yaoyorozu in her sexy bikini. I tried to ignore it and focus on my book but the thought was always on my mind, bells ringing repeatedly reminding me that I'm not good enough for him, I'll never be good enough for him and that he's attracted to her.
Halfway through my book a shadow loomed over me, and I looked up to see three guys around my age standing right next to my lounger. They looked at each other with a smirk, making me awkwardly shuffle. "It is you," one of them said, and I furrowed my eyebrows, confused.
"U-um... excuse me?" I mumbled timidly.
"You're the cute girl from the UA Sports Festival!" He said, sitting down on the edge of my sun-lounger. "(l/n), right?"
"Y-yes," I said quickly.
"I'm Asano. He's Okajima, and he's Akabane," the one sat down said, gesturing his two friends.
"Hi," I said simply, just wishing they'd go away so I could get back to reading.
"Girl of few words, eh? So I wondered what you were doing sat here all by yourself, let me treat you to some lunch," Asano offered, etching closer towards me.
"N-no, I'm okay... I brought food with me," I mumbled, looking down at my book.
"Well then how about we have a picnic, just you and me," he mumbled with a smirk, reaching out and putting a hand on my thigh. I flinched horribly when suddenly...
"Let go of her this instance."
I looked up and there stood over the three boys was Iida, with his hands on his hips, glaring down at the them. "It is rude to attempt to advance on a girl when she is clearly uncomfortable. I suggest you leave her alone."
"You're also from UA, aren't you? The one with the engines in his legs?" Okajima pointed out, making Asano stand up and back off a little bit.
"That's right. My name is Iida. Now, I suggest you back away from her," he said sternly. I was surprised to see this side of him, he seemed very protective and I was thankful for his help in getting them to go away. Each of them muttered a 'fine' before walking off towards the next group of unsuspecting girls on the beach. "Are you alright?" He asked me softly, sitting down on the lounger next to me.
"Yes, thanks to you," I mumbled with a smile. His cheeks turned pink, mine then mirroring this.
"Happy to help," he smiled. He announced that he was going to stay by my side to make sure nobody else tried the same trick, and soon the entire class began filing out of the sea and onto our reserved sun-loungers. I spotted Todoroki, secretly hoping he'd come and take the sun-lounger on the other side of me but he simply looked at me with furrowed eyebrows, then walked to another far away, Yaoyorozu following him. My heart hurt at the look he gave me, and I couldn't help but hide my face in my book again, blocking out the rest of the world and getting immersed in fiction.
