15: Graduation Party
Quirk: Bunny
After three years of intensive training and hard work at UA High School, the entire class had managed to graduate with their heroes licence. We were all about to delve into the heroes world, each getting full time internships, however we all promised we'd try and stay together as much as we could... naturally it'd be difficult as we'd all be going our separate ways but I knew I was going to try my best to see everyone.
Our graduation was being held in an enormous fancy events hall that had decorative walls, tall arched windows which led through to a balcony that ran around the building as the hall was several stories up. The entirety of our year was sat upon the stage that looked over the rest of the room, staring out to all of our friends and family as well as a few pro heroes and our teachers, all of which were sat in the crowd. The graduation started with a speech from Principle Nezu, which was followed by each classes teacher giving a small congratulations to their students. It's fair to say Aizawa's speech was pretty short but very powerful.
One by one we were called to collect our certificate from Principle Nezu, everyone on the hero course being told to wear their hero outfits. When my name was called I walked calmly up to the principle, shook his little paw and stopped for a photo. Out in the crowd I spotted my parents and sister, she was clapping and cheering loudly whilst my parents were crying. "Congratulations Miss (l/n)," Principle Nezu said.
"Thank you for everything, sir," I said, bowing and heading back to my seat. After everyone had collected their certificates, it was time for the class reps to give small speeches, but halfway through his, Iida startling sniffling, trying not to cry but in the end Momo had to take over which made me giggle. Everyone cheered once more as we all wandered off stage, and we each departed to find our families in the crowd. Once I approached mine, my parents pulled me into a tight hug, crying onto my shoulders as my sister and I laughed.
"We're so so proud of you (y/n)," my mother said as they both pulled away.
"Thank you, it really means a lot," I smiled.
"Seriously, well done," (s/n) said, pulling me into a hug. We went to find some of my friends to congratulate them and meet their parents. I first saw Midoriya, who's mother was crying madly on his shoulder, him stroking her back looking around awkwardly and trying to get her to calm down.
"Hello," I said, tapping him on his shoulder.
"Hey! Oh, mum, you remember-,"
"(y/n)! Congratulations, you must be overjoyed," Ms Midoriya said, still blubbering.
"Yes I am, thank you. These are my parents, (m/n) and (f/n), and this is my older sister, (s/n)!"
"Pleasure to meet you all! I'm Midoriya's mother!" She said, shaking each of my families hand in turn. They delved into conversation, getting along well straight away.
"Can you believe we actually made it through alive?" I laughed.
"Not quite... it feels so surreal," he admitted, staring down at his certificate in awe.
"Nobody deserves it more then you do, Midoriya," I said in a quiet voice. His immediate attention turned to me, him blushing. "Well, we all come a close second as we've all worked pretty hard but... you've had to deal with a lot. So well done."
Suddenly he hugged me, almost making me loose my balance. I laughed hugging him back as he mumbled a thank you on my shoulder. "Congratulations to you too, (y/n). I'm sure we'll see each other at the top."
"You bet!" I laughed.
"Are you going to go and congratulate him?" Midoriya asked, nodding in the direction of Shoto who's father was glaring down at him whilst his siblings hugged and congratulated him. "I think you should, after all, you two got pretty close."
It was true, Shoto and I did get very close throughout our years at UA, but I couldn't bring myself to potentially ruin our friendship to try and take our relationship a step further, especially as the likelihood is I'd get shot down. I loved him as a friend, and liked him romantically as he'd always been so protective and kind towards me. He had saved me in multiple close shaves and we were compatible with each other. I was the only one he'd like to team up with.
"I know what you're thinking Midoriya, but it's not going to happen. I don't want to ruin what we have and plus he'd just outright reject me. He doesn't feel then same," I whispered sadly. Midoriya simply sighed before we were joined by Ochaco and Tsu, with both of their families too. Little did I know that Todoroki was harbouring similar feelings towards me.
- Todoroki's POV -
Once the ceremony was done I followed everyone off of the stage and walked over to join my family. My father, as always, and a stern look etched upon his face, his arms crossed over his big chest. Fuyumi immediately dragged me into a hug which I only slightly returned, going red. Natsuo joined, hugging around us which ended up making me smile. I did love my siblings. Once they pulled away from me I turned to my mother who had tears in her eyes. She cupped my face in her hands and pulled me in for a tight hug, whispering her congratulations in my ear which made me smile. I hugged her tightly back, showing her how much I cared for her. Then it was time to turn to my father.
"I'm proud of you, son," he mumbled, and I arched my eyebrow. "You'll become a fine hero..." he said, as though he couldn't bring himself to say what he wanted to say.
"Shoto! Is that her?" Natsuo suddenly asked and I turned to see where he was looking. "She's the only one with bunny ears, so I presume so!"
"Is this Shoto's crush! Where? Oh! She's so cute, she even has a bunny tail-,"
"Shut up!" I hissed at the pair of them, who several months prior managed to get me to confess to them my feelings for the bunny-girl.
"You have a love interest, son?" My father suddenly said and I turned to face him, both red and with gritted teeth.
"Maybe..." I said quietly. "And I don't care if you approve or not because I really care for her!" I growled with gritted teeth, unable to control myself. He sighed, and with gritted teeth of his own he went to go talk business with a few of the other pro heroes.
"So are you going to go and talk to her? After all, she's your best friend too, isn't she?" Natsuo said and I sent him a death glare.
"She is so cute! I love her ears so much!" My sister squealed, and I suddenly went pale, my eyes wide with realisation.
"Shut up! She has a very good sense of hearing so shut up!" I suddenly said, panicked, but as I looked over to her she seemed engrossed in conversation with Midoriya. I clenched my fists slightly but Midoriya knew my feelings for her, and he was a friend, he wouldn't do anything.
- (y/n)'s POV -
After about half an hour, in which a buffet appeared and free drinks were handed out, I ventured over to Shoto through the crowds. He was talking with his siblings, his back turned towards me. I saw his sisters eyes light up when she saw me, her beaming face whispering "she's here" to Todoroki who whirled around instantly.
"Hey! I just wanted to congratulate you," I said, opening my arms up for a hug.
"Oh, thank you. You too," he said, returning the gesture. Behind him I saw his brother and sister exchange particular glances.
"C'mon, Shoto, why don't you introduce us?" His sister teased. He turned around to her, muttering a swear word under his breath, apparently forgetting my quirk included good hearing.
"Sorry, (y/n), this is my sister, Fuyumi and my brother, Natsuo. And this is my mother, Rei. Thankfully my father is nowhere around," he said with a growl. Endeavour was a scary man after all.
"Pleasure to meet you all. My parents are somewhere off in the crowd but I'm sure you'll get to meet them at some point," I smiled.
"I'm sure we will," Natsuo smirked, and Shoto hit him. I spent ten minutes talking with them before departing to find my parents who were talking in awe with All Might. A lot of families were beginning to leave by this point anyway, so we headed out as well as I needed to get ready for the graduation party that evening which was going to be held here in the same venue. We bade farewell to All Might and headed out the door, saying goodbye to my friends as we went. I caught Shoto's eye and waved just as I went out of the door, heading to the lift to take us down to the car park.
- Timeskip -
Along with my graduation certificate, each student was given a unique ticket for the evening Graduation Party. I was looking forward to it but my sister seemed excited too, apparently keen to help me get ready. "Oh I can't wait to help you into your dress, you're going to look so beautiful!" (s/n) exclaimed happily. The dress code was formal, so (s/n) helped me to find the perfect dress: a deep red sleeveless dress that hugged my body. The skirt had a slit up to the thigh to add a bit of promiscuity. It had to be altered to accommodate a hole for my white pom-pom tail to poke out of.
(s/n) did all of my makeup and styled my hair, and as she continued I actually thought I looked quite pretty. As she was putting the finishing touches to my hair my phone buzzed on my desk, so I reached for it and smiled when I saw it was a text from Shoto.
Shoto: Are you going to the graduation party tonight?
17:05
I smiled stupidly to myself, feeling warmth in my stomach., something that wasn't missed by my sister. "Is that him?" She teased and I nodded, looking back at my phone.
Me: Yes I am, are you?
17:07
Todo: Yeah, I'll see you there.
17:07
Me: Can't wait!
17:08
Over the past few weeks I had tried so hard to forget about these feelings for him, knowing that we were going our separate ways to different internships, and that we were just simply friends. But I couldn't help but smile whenever he sent me sort and sweet messages. "You know you definitely have to ask him to dance," she teased and I scoffed.
"Yeah right, does he seem like the type of person to dance?" I raised my eyebrow and she laughed.
"Perhaps not but you at least need to spend a little bit of the night with him. Who know what could happen," she winked at me through the mirror and my face heated up.
"I know what will happen! Nothing! This isn't some sort of fairytale or fan fiction where the guy always ends up liking the girl," I pouted and she rolled her eyes. "Plus I doubt it'll actually be a formal party, especially with Present Mic as the DJ."
"Perhaps," she admitted.
"I wish you could come, (s/n), I'll miss you not being there," I said. I was extremely close to her, I could tell her anything about my private life and she could tell me anything about hers.
"Yeah, it's a shame but I cannot wait for you to tell me all about it tomorrow! Will you be coming back here after or staying at the dorms?" She asked.
"I don't actually know, I guess I hadn't planned that far ahead," I admitted.
"Maybe you'll end up going back to the dorms with a certain red and white haired- ow!" She exclaimed as I reached back and hit her. "Okay. Your hair and makeup is done, time to get you into your dress!"
Once I was fully dressed I looked in the mirror, quite happy with the outcome until suddenly (s/n) approached me and started putting highlighter and contour on my chest. "What are you doing?"
"Making your body stand out a little more," she teased and I rolled my eyes. 'Great, Mineta will be staring,' I thought to myself. Once done we headed downstairs to where mum and dad were eagerly awaiting me.
"You do look beautiful, (y/n), but you have to make sure that no boys are going to try anything-,"
"Dad, I know how to look after myself," I assured him.
"I know, but people will be drinking and I don't want my little girl to be taken advantage of-,"
"Really, dad, I'm going to be fine," I smiled at his concern. He nodded slowly, before mum insisted on taking pictures of me with him and (s/n). I checked the clock and it was half an hour before the party was due to start, so I bundled together a red clutch bag with my phone, some money, my ID and my ticket in it, and hugged my sister and mother goodbye. My father took me outside where a posh car was parked. "You rented this? For me?"
"Yes of course, I wanted my baby to arrive in style," he smiled, opening the passenger seat door for me. There were posh cream leather seats, and an elegant wooden dashboard, with an old fashioned steering wheel. For most of the car ride there we were silent, before father spoke up again. "I hope you have a good time tonight. I know you're an adult now, and I know you can take care of yourself, and I'm so proud of you for graduating. We all are." I looked at him in surprise. "What?" He laughed. "Listen, I know what you're going to say, but I'm only saying this because I care for you deeply. If anyone gives you the wrong kind of attention and it's unwanted on your behalf, please just be strong and reject them."
"I will," I said, completely dumbfounded.
"Good... (s/n) told me you were quite close with Endeavours son," he suddenly said and my heart missed a beat.
"I-I guess so... he's nice," I mumbled.
"He seems it, unlike his father," he said. The rest of the car ride was silent, and we arrived at the venue, seeing loads of people walk into the building. "Have a good time."
"I will, thank you," I said, getting out and shutting the car door. I got a few glances from people as they stared at the car and my dress, and I couldn't help but smile to myself.
"Hey!" A sudden voice said to my left.
"Momo! Wow, you look stunning!" I said, looking at her in her light green dress.
"Not as good as you, you really went full out! Trying to impress someone?" She teased and I laughed awkwardly. "Let's head in. I've just seen Mineta's car pull up and I don't fancy being hounded by him this evening," she said, linking arms with me and walking briskly to the entrance. We handed in our tickets and headed straight up in one of the lifts. "Seriously though, you look incredible. Is there someone you're trying to impress?"
"I-I don't know, maybe? I guess I just wanted to look good for the final farewell," I said, and she smiled.
"Well you certainly do."
"Thanks Momo, and so do you, that dress looks lovely on you," I smiled. The lift doors opened to a beautiful sight. Gold and black balloons littered the ceiling, there were tables stacked full of delicious looking food and my nose immediately caught the scent of carrot sticks, making my stomach grumble. There were round tables with white cloths over them dotted around the incredibly large dance floor which currently had very few people on it. Upon the stage, Present Mic had set out his personal DJ set which had the letters P and M largely printed on the front. Either side of him were two large looking speakers, and above him was an intricately decorated sign which read 'UA Graduation Party'. The arched windows on each side of the building were slightly open, leading out on to a balcony which I was certain was decorated similarly to the hall. All around us were people from our year, all from various classes and I recognised a few alumni, all of which were dressed in beautiful dresses and handsome tuxedos. Even the pro heroes were dressed up in suits and dresses.
Momo and I began mingling with everyone, finding our girlfriends and gossiping with them, getting drinks and food as the hall filled with more people. The party didn't start properly until most of the year were here, as people had had one or two drinks and were dancing with their friends on the dance floor. To let loose, the hero course girls and I all went onto the dance floor, dancing happily away. I had already had several compliments on my dress and makeup, each time making me feel flustered. Soon enough Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero came over to join us, and I began dancing with Kirishima, as he teased me saying I was asking for it by wearing red. I simply laughed but my mind was elsewhere. I knew he wouldn't be on the dance floor, so my eyes scanned the edges of the hall for Shoto.
Finally I spotted him in a light grey three piece suit which fit him perfectly, and light brown brogues. He even had a red tie on. I couldn't help but smile at how handsome he looked. His hands were in his pocket and he was leaning up against the wall nonchalantly. It was only then that I realised his eyes were right on me, and I gulped, looking away sharply. Little did I know that inside his pockets his fists were clenched, as he stared at Kirishima and I dancing.
"You should go over to him," Midoriya suddenly said in my ear.
"W-what?" I said, startled and turning around. He was wearing a white shirt with a dark green waist coat and dark green jacket. "Wow Midoriya, you look pretty good," I giggled.
"T-thanks," he said, blushing a little. "But seriously, just go and say hi," he said, nodding his head towards him.
"I will," I nodded. "Actually will you come and take some pictures of us together?" I asked, and he nodded. We both walked up to the red and white haired male, me trying not to blush and how good I thought he looked. "Hey!" I said, once next to him.
"Hi, you look nice," he said with a slight smile.
"Aw, thanks. You look really good too," I said honestly. "Your tie is the same colour as my dress, it looks like we came together," I laughed.
"Y-yeah," he said quietly. It was very rare that I heard him stutter.
"Fancy a picture? Midoriya can be our photographer," I said, gesturing him.
"Y-yeah, okay," he muttered simply.
"Are you alright?" I asked, genuinely concerned.
"Sorry, yeah I'm fine. Just not used to having my picture taken, that's all," he admitted.
"Aw, well it's simple. Come here," I said, pulling him away from the wall. "Put your arm around me like this," I said with a sudden boost of confidence I didn't know I had. I put his arm around my waist, and my arm around his, my other pressed gently against his chest. "Take a few please, Midoriya," I said and he nodded. "Smile," I whispered to a blushing Todoroki. I smiled brightly and Midoriya captured the shot, and for the next one I looked up at the man holding me and gave him a light peck on the cheek, making him blush even more. I pulled away and he turned his head sharply towards me, his eyes wide with surprise. Then the unexpected happened. It all happened so fast I didn't even register that it was happening at first. He had suddenly crashed his lips on mine and was kissing me gently, my eyes wide in utter shock. Once I realised what was happening I immediately melted into his hold, clutching onto his suit jacket and gently kissing him back. After a few glorious moments he pulled away, our foreheads pressed against each others.
"W-wow," I whispered, looking into his wonderful eyes. He gulped nervously.
"I'm sorry if you didn't want that, I-I just-,"
"Shoto, did you not feel me kiss you back? You have no idea how much I wanted you to kiss me," I smiled longingly at him.
"Ahem," Midoriya suddenly coughed and we both turned to him, blushing.
"Oh, um, thanks Midoriya," I said, walking up to him and taking my phone.
"Told ya," he said cheekily.
"Shut up," I hissed, before he walked away and I joined Shoto again.
"So... fancy some fresh air?" He asked, gesturing the balcony and I nodded. He took my hand and led me outside which had a few iron garden tables out on it, and the balcony fence was lined with red roses. It was peaceful, as no one else was out here and the fresh air was a relaxing break from the heat in the hall. Once out of sight from the hall, we turned to face each other, before wrapping our arms around each other and kissing passionately again. My heart rate had escalated rapidly to the point where I couldn't control it, and I clung onto his suit jacket tightly as he had his arms around my waist.
"You're beautiful, (y/n)," he mumbled when we pulled away. "And I'd love nothing more then for you to be my girlfriend."
"W-wow, really?" I asked, unable to believe that this was actually happening.
"Yeah," he mumbled.
"Yes, of course I will be, of course Shoto," I smiled uncontrollably. He then smiled and my heart fluttered even more. "I love your smile, you should smile more often," I giggled.
"I think I will now that I'm with you," he said, still smiling.
"So smooth," I teased, clinging onto him. We sat down at one of the tables, me sat upon his lap with his arms wrapped around my waist and his lips against my shoulder, making me shiver. He activated his fire side slightly so that I'd stay warm whilst we were out in the cool air. I had a flick through the photos Midoriya took of us, and he captured our moment perfectly, making me giggle.
"What's up?" He mumbled against my shoulder.
"Have a look at these," I said, showing him the smart one of us, me smiling into the camera and he with his classic stoic expression. Already in that image we looked like a couple by the way we were holding each other. I swiped to show him the picture of me kissing his cheek which made him blush again and me giggle as his eyes were wide with surprise in the image, his cheeks completely red. I swiped and the next picture showed us when he was looking at me dead in the eyes which were still full of surprise. The next was another that made me giggle, as Midoriya had managed to capture my surprise as Shoto had leant down to kiss me on my lips, his expression gentle.
"So embarrassing," he mumbled behind me.
"Aw, I think it's sweet," I said, turning and kissing him again. "I think this is my favourite though," I said, showing him the image Midoriya captured of us both with our eyes closed, our lips against each others gently, our arms wrapped around each other lovingly.
"Yeah, that's probably my favourite too," he mumbled, his cheeks going red. "(y/n), can I ask you a serious question?"
"Of course, what is it?" I asked, and he shifted a bit signalling me to stand up. He took my hand and led me over to the balcony where he simply stared at me, directly in the eye. "I-is everything okay?"
"How could you like someone like me... when I have this big ugly scar on my face?"
I raised my eyebrows, surprised at what he had just said. He was the most attractive guy in our class, if not the entire school, and many people thought so. "Shoto, your scar is not ugly, please, never say that. I love you and your scar," I said, bringing my hand to his cheek which was incredibly warm, and rubbing my thumb against the bottom bit of the scar.
"You love me?"
It was then that I had realised I had just confessed my true feelings. I snatched my hand away, my heart thumping dramatically. "...no," I said stupidly.
"I love you too," he said with a smile that was contagious. He pulled me into a tight hug, my heart racing at his words. This evening had definitely been one of my favourite evenings of my entire life.
