11: The Dream Future
Quirk: Quirkless
Our relationship started when he started coming into the coffee shop three times a week. He was so handsome that I couldn't help but feel flustered every time he walked in, and before long he became a regular and I knew his order off by heart. Still, he'd always come over and talk to me, and he genuinely seemed interested in me which was a first, as being quirkless often led to people believing I was boring or that I wasn't worth their attention. I didn't mind so much as I was naturally a quiet person, but sometimes when I needed to talk to someone, there was nobody there. But now Todoroki was my somebody, and we'd been together for the past two months.
Suddenly people at school began paying me attention once they found out I was with the Number Two Pro Hero's son. It was a wonderful few months together, as we walked around getting to know each other personally, he told of me of his past and I comforted him, it felt good that he could talk to me about these things and that my hugs made him feel so much better. I was intrigued as to what UA was like, asking for all the inside gossip, and he was just as curious as my chosen career path which made me laugh.
"Shoto, hoping to own a coffee house is nowhere near as interesting as becoming the Number One Hero!" I laughed as we walked hand in hand from my school. Everyday he'd always walk over to my high school to walk me home, even though it was very out of his way.
"I think it's interesting, plus your coffee is so good, I'd definitely be spending a lot of money there," he said, squeezing my hand.
"By that time we'd be married and it'd be yours too, you wouldn't have to pay-," I stopped as I realised what I had said. 'Fuck- what on earth did I just say?!' I hissed at myself silently.
"Good, because I'd want a lifetime supply," he said, smiling gently at me. I simply giggled and left it at that, still slightly embarrassed but he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me in close to him, me hugging his waist. "I love you," he mumbled as he kissed my head. I looked up into his heterochromatic eyes.
"I love you too, Shoto."
We then however made the horrible mistake of introducing me to his family. His siblings were lovely, they were so much fun and always happy, his mother was soft and caring however his father deemed me unworthy. "Shoto! She is quirkless! How dare you bring her into my home, get her out now!" He boomed loudly, his other children flinching slightly.
"What? No, I'm not letting her go-," Shoto tried to defend me.
"Get out of my home NOW!" He bellowed directly at me, and frightened tears came to my eyes as his fiery beard flickered violently. "How dare you think you can be with Shoto! Get out, and I don't want you nowhere near my son ever again!"
"That is not happening! I'm staying with her-," Shoto began but I couldn't stay in the house. I ran, flew the door open and ran all the way home. Once there, I cried into my mothers chest, knowing that his father was right, I'd only be pulling Shoto back as I'm useless and quirkless. She tried to comfort me as much as she could, rubbing soft circles on my back but I couldn't stop crying. That was until the doorbell went off.
"Honey, it's Shoto," she said and I looked at the door to see him standing there, trying to get his breath back. "Come in dear," she said and he nodded his head politely. "I'll be in the other room," She left to give us some privacy. Immediately I ran into his arms, crying into his chest. He gripped my waist tightly, burying his head deep into my neck.
"I-I'm sorry Shoto," I hiccoughed. "H-he's right, you deserve better than me-,"
"No I don't and I never want to hear you say that kind of thing ever again. (y/n) you are perfect to me, the best person in the world and I don't want to let you go. You're mine forever, I don't care what my horrible old man thinks because I love you," he said definitely, and I looked up to see his determined eyes. "Come on, I want to be able to set up that coffee shop with you," he said with a light smile and I giggled, sniffing and wiping my tears away. "Here," he said as he pulled a handkerchief from his pocket.
"Thanks," I muttered, using it. "What about your dad?"
"Well I don't want him going crazy on you so... I'll just never have to mention my relationship with you... I'm sorry," he said but I shook my head.
"Don't be sorry Shoto, I understand, we're still together and that's what matters," I smiled and we hugged tightly again, as though not wanting to let each other go. And so we kept our relationship hidden from Endeavour, which was working well, although he was incredibly protective over Shoto and demanded to know where he was be every second of the day, which annoyed the hell out of Shoto. He would lie every time of course, but Endeavour only got worse and worse, so we started sneaking out at night to spend enough time together. Luckily my mum was super lenient and let me go as long as I told her where I was going; she knew our whole situation after all. Together, mum and I were watching a film late at night when suddenly my phone buzzed.
Shoto x: Fancy sneaking out tonight? x
22:45
Me: Always, what did you have in mind? x
22:46
Shoto x: Come over in an hour, meet me in my garden x
22:46
Me: Okay, I'll see you soon x
22:47
"Mum, Shoto's just asked me over, is it alright if I go?" I asked, hopeful.
"Of course dear, be careful," she said, and I smiled and hugged her. I went to my room to change out of the pyjamas I was in, putting on a jumper and leggings instead, wrapping a scarf around my neck and putting on earmuffs.
"Bye mum!"
"Bye sweetie, stay safe!"
And with that I ventured into the night. The wind was cold and the streets were empty, the lampposts and the shining moon being the only thing to light the way. As I walked the neighbourhoods changed, the houses became bigger and more obvious that they were owned by the wealthy. It wasn't long before I reached the house with the plaque 'Todoroki' on the wall out front. I snuck around the back, carefully going along the fence leading into the large back garden they had. Once through I looked and saw Shoto crouching on something sparkly. I slowly walked over before realising he had created a large smooth bit of ice, as though it were an ice-skating rink.
"Hey," I said, making him jump.
"Hey," he said when he realised it was me, stepping up to me and hugging me, kissing me passionately. Despite the cold day I felt warm as his tongue trailed my bottom lip, sending shivers down my spine. We pulled our lips apart but remained close in each others hold.
"So is this the thing you had in mind?" I asked, nodding to the glistening floor.
"It is, I want to teach you how to ice-skate," he said, wearing his heart melting smile. He handed me a pair of ice-skates, and helped me put them on, putting my boots under the tree which was hanging over the makeshift ice rink.
"How good are you at this?" I asked nervously, as he pulled me onto the rink.
"Well my quirk is ice, so pretty good," he teased and I playfully hit him. "You'll be fine, just hold onto me. Right, left, right, left, good," he praised as I followed his feet movements carefully, loving the feeling of his hold on me. "Now we're going to gently come to a stop... well done," he smiled, rewarding my first skate with a kiss. Slowly he took me around the glistening rink, teaching me the basics before pushing me out on my own, were I slowly, very slowly managed to do a lap. It was more like I was stepping on the ice rather then gliding, but he assured me I'd get better as he continued to teach me.
"Show me what you can do," I said, slowly skating towards the edge of the rink.
"Alright..." he mumbled, before slowly beginning to skate. He picked up speed before jumping high, spinning around fast and landing facing me, gliding backwards towards the edge of the rink then up towards me fast, stopping directly in front of me.
"Wow, if you expect me to get that good tonight-,"
"No, I don't, but I'll get you there if you let me," he whispered.
"Absolutely," I said, kissing him again. He was so irresistible, I couldn't help myself. He led me round the rink a few more times, me slowly getting the hang of it as I began to glide around, however as soon as he let go I tensed up, just travelling straight before falling over. "Ow," I mumbled, rubbing my bum.
"Are you alright?" He asked, apparently trying to not laugh.
"I'm fine, thank you Shoto," I said sarcastically, but accepting his hand to pull me up. He pecked my lips, a simple action like this being enough to make me feel warm inside.
"Feel better now?" He asked quietly and I nodded. "Let's take a break."
We sat under the large cherry blossom tree and although it wasn't in bloom, it was still very pretty. Cuddled together tightly, me on his warmth side as he activated it gently to make sure I wasn't cold, we stared up into the crisp night sky looking at the immense cluster of stars. It was times like this with him that I treasured the most, and knew I would always keep in my heart forever, whether in the future I would still be with him or not. "(y/n), you're beautiful," he mumbled suddenly. I couldn't help but smile, turning towards my sweet boyfriend. He had a habit of complimenting me at the most random of times, and every time it always made my heart beat faster. I cupped his cheek and pulled him in for another long kiss, so passionate it was filled with love and sentiment. Unfortunately we had to pull away to draw in a breath, but we were back kissing again once done so. That was until we were annoyingly interrupted by the one person we didn't want to be.
"What is going on out here?" Endeavours voice boomed loudly, as though he was trying to wake the neighbours. We both stood up quickly, and standing on dry earth in ice-skates felt weird. Shoto immediately stood in front of me, his arms backwards and wrapped around me protectively. "What is she doing back here? Are you still with this quirkless nobody?"
"How dare you!" Shoto suddenly shouted. "Just because she is quirkless does not mean she is a nobody! She is my girlfriend, and the woman I want to spend the rest-,"
"How dare you! Don't talk back at your father in such a way!" He bellowed, making me flinch. I held onto Shoto's shoulder tightly, admittedly quite frightened.
"I don't care who you are! I love her with all my heart and I'm not going to let you stand in the way of that!" Shoto shouted at his father.
"You will not be with her! You will be with a woman worthy of the Todoroki family name!"
"She is worthy! I want to grow with her! Marry her! Have children, grow old and die with her! You can't stop me!" Shoto shouted at the top of his lungs. What he just said not only left me speechless, but also his father. Shoto clung onto me even tighter once he said those things. I had no idea that that's what he truly felt like, and I was over the moon.
"D-do you really mean that?" I asked in a quiet voice. This time he turned towards me, ignoring his father.
"Yes, I really do. Obviously none of those things will happen yet but... I'm hoping in our future they will," he smiled, before leaning down and kissing me. I didn't care if Endeavour was there, I couldn't help but kiss my amazing boyfriend back. "I love you," he mumbled once he pulled away. "Do you hear that? I love her!" He bellowed at his father who stood there, still speechless.
"You want to marry this girl?" His father asked, to make sure he heard right.
"Eventually I do... she makes me happy, why can't you accept that? You can't plan out my life! Nothing I'm doing is ever going to be for you! If you can't accept the fact that (y/n) makes me happy then I can't accept you as a father!"
There was silence after that, the only noise coming from the crackling of Endeavours fire beard. I waited with baited breath, terrified of what comes next, but both Shoto and I gaped in surprise at what Endeavour said next. "Very well. If she makes you happy Shoto, then so be it."
"What?" Shoto said, checking he heard his boisterous and highly opinionated father correctly.
"I may not truly warm to her but as she makes you happy then I shall try... I do wish you could've had children to become powerful heroes with strong quirks, but I suppose I'll have to settle for her," he said in a bitter tone. I heard Shoto scoff at his fathers backwards way of thinking, about how despite him 'accepting' me, he'd never truly be happy with me.
"I don't want any of that, how can you not understand? I don't care about whether someone is quirkless or not, it's only you in this family that does," Shoto growled at his father.
"Treat Shoto right, girl," Endeavour said before turning back to the house. Shoto's fists were clenched tightly, his teeth gritted as he stared with hate at his father walking back into the house.
"I hate that man," he growled. "He can't treat you that way."
"I don't care, Shoto," I said honestly, and he turned to me, surprised. "I have your love, and the rest of your family seems to like me, that's more then I could've wished for... I don't care if your father hates me, I don't care what he thinks about me, because from everything you've told me he doesn't seem like a nice man. How you defended me this evening, and everything you said... that's what I want too, Shoto," I said, and once again he leaned in and we kissed passionately, holding onto each other, craving one another.
"You're perfect, (y/n)," he whispered.
"And so are you," I replied.
- Twelve years later -
My coffee shop had been open for two years, and it was just as hectic as it was on opening day. I had to hire ten more staff then I thought I'd need, as being the wife to one of the most famous pro heroes brought in a lot of customers. We had enough money to make the shop a chain, however I preferred it to be an original independent shop. Unfortunately now I was getting stressed over having to leave the place for maternity leave, as I was pregnant with our first child.
"I'd never thought I'd have a future this perfect," I mumbled to my husband as we were closing for the day. He'd dropped by to see how I was doing, bringing me some fast food along the way.
"How's little Bump doing?" He asked, patting my belly.
"Doing perfectly, a few kicks today but Bump seems calm otherwise," I smiled. As we didn't know the gender of the baby, we always referred to it as 'Bump'.
"M-Mr Shoto sir," said one of my newest employees. "May I have an autograph?"
I smiled as despite Shoto coming in regularly all of the employees, even those that had been there since the opening, were still in awe of him.
"Of course, wow, you've built up quite the collection," Shoto laughed, flicking through his autograph book. "You even managed to get Bakugou to sign it," and we both laughed, as I had met the explosive hero on multiple occasions and knew what he was like.
"Y-yeah! Wow, you call him by his real name, that's so cool!"
"Y'know, you actually remind me of Deku when he was younger. He was a lot like you, with his autograph books," Shoto smiled, signing it for him. He just stood there, completely speechless, surprised Shoto would compare him to the number one pro hero. "Keep on working hard," Shoto said with a rare smile, and he nodded happily.
"Well, I'm leaving for my maternity leave now. Please, call me if there's any trouble," I said to Kaede, the only person I trusted to manage the coffee house in my absence.
"Go on, we'll be fine, enjoy your leave!" She said, almost pushing us out of the door. Two weeks later we were in the hospital, and I had just given birth to a baby girl. Shoto was holding onto her tightly, tears in his eyes which made me cry even more as it was rare to see him cry. My body still hurt like crazy but the pain was washed away by the immense happiness I felt seeing my husband and daughter cuddling so tightly. "Do we have a name for her yet?" The doctor asked.
"No, not-,"
"Rei," I said, interrupting him. He looked at me, surprised, and a tear fell down his cheek.
"Rei," he nodded. We had now begun our family, he was a steady and powerful pro hero, and I owned my dream coffee house. All was well.
