Rescuing is Our Job

And there we have it! Meet class 1, your main characters for this story. As we go along, each will be given their moments to shine, some more than others obviously. Myself and my partners in crime on this story have been working on our roadmap of our arcs to come and what we've decided and come up with is truly going to be awesome. There's loads to look forward too and it's all coming very soon. But first, we're sticking to class life. I'm sure most of you can guess what's gonna happen by the title above, and honestly, it's not surprising. It's a hero's number one job after all. Now, let's get back into the story! Enjoy!

Besides getting my ass kicked by Lisa, my first day as a hero in training actually went pretty well. After everyone finished up their sparring matches Wrath Queen brought us back to the classroom where we finished up the day by going over some hero laws. After that, I went home along with Phobos until we had to part ways for the night.

When I arrived at home, I was nearly bowled over by my parents with dozens, maybe even hundreds of questions. They were super concerned for me, especially when I came home with a couple scratches and bruises on my body. But after some explaining, they finally calmed down and let me breath for some time too. We all had dinner and then I immediately went to bed because I was exhausted from the day.

When the next morning arrived, I got up at the same time like before and put on my clothes before going downstairs to have breakfast.

"Good luck today, Harper! Hope things go better than yesterday!" I heard my mother say as she and my father quickly left to go to work. My father was a surgeon at a local hospital and my mother worked there as well as a nurse.

"Always in a rush.... but I guess that comes with having such an important job. And, i'm probably going to be the same when i'm done. I'll be working day an night as a hero." I thought as I finished up my breakfast, loaded up my backpack, put on some shoes and made my way to school.

"Waky waky, sleepyhead." Phobos said as he was actually standing at the end of my driveway.

"How's it going?" I asked him as we walked together to school.

"Not too bad. Parent's nearly cried when I got home yesterday. Turns out Stella chipped one of my teeth so when my mom saw it she flipped out." Phobos explained as he showed me his chipped tooth.

"Yikes, that had to hurt." I said as he nodded his head.

"But besides that, they were happy for me. What about you?I'm assuming your parents were the same?" He asked me as I also gave him a nod.

"You bet. Dad nearly tackled me when I took a step through the door." I said as Phobos let out a small chuckle.

"I see. So, what's the dream for today? Obviously since you're not flying right now, you didn't have that kind of dream. Another Star Wars one?" He asked me as I shook my head. I then held out my right hand and he watched as two red and white spheres appeared in my hand.

"Are those....?" He began to ask as I nodded my head.

"Yep. They're real pokeballs with real pokemon inside. Not telling you which ones though." I said as I could tell by the look on his face that he wanted one. I then made them disappear as we continued our way to Persevering Heights. Before we all left yesterday, Wrath Queen informed us that each day would get more difficult as we went on. But today, she had a surprise for us all. I couldn't wait to see what it was.

When we arrived at Persevering Heights, we both made our way to our classroom and took our seats. No being late anymore because we were sure it would bring some serious punishments. And, when everyone made it, Wrath Queen showed up and we began our lesson for the day.

"Yesterday all of you showed me what you're capable of. And what I saw did make me impressed, but, I also saw lots of potential waiting to be unlocked. Whether your quirk is made for combat or not, all of you need to work on your skills if you want to be able to defeat villains." Wrath Queen told us as we all responded with a "Yes ma'am!"

"In time, i'm sure all of you will be able to face villains and deal with them with ease. But no matter how strong you may be, always remember your limitations. There will always be someone stronger than you out there, whether it's physically or mentally. Be aware and decide whether the job at hand is too much for you or if you know you can handle it." Wrath Queen instructed as Jackson raised his hand up.

"Have you been in any situations where it was too much for you to handle, Mrs. Fuyumi?" He asked her as she shook her head.

"Yes. Sometimes heroes will have no choice but to step in, even when they know the situation's out of their league. I had to do it several times. Hell, one time even my own son who's still a hero in training ha to save me. But, that's how this happened to me." Wrath Queen explained, pointing to her flaming arm.

"What exactly did happen?" Lisa asked her as she let out a heavy sigh and then sat down on the edge of her desk.

"Last year, around Mid-March, I was part of a select few heroes who run agencies. I was second in charge to the hero Edgeshot, but with him being such a high ranked hero, he would always be too busy to deal with all the other work. And, in time, it came for U.A high to do their annual hero work study program for their students where they go out to these agencies and essentially work as sidekicks. Four students were accepted at the agency, that being my son and three of his friends. I was already working on a case and they helped me out quite a lot. But, one night things took a wrong turn for me." Wrath Queen began to explain.

"What happened to you?" Steve asked her.

"The case we were working on was the distribution of a drug known as "Trigger." Trigger is used to amplify a persons quirk temporarily to massive proportions of strength. In the wrong hands, it could cause serious damage to our society. And, while the students were out patrolling, I was in another location disrupting a gathering. People selling this drug. But, I was overwhelmed and taken out. They kidnapped me and planned to use me as an example of what happens when heroes mess with this drug syndicate. And what exactly did they do to me first? They cut off my entire right arm." Wrath Queen said, holding up her right flaming arm. No one had words to say, we all just listened in awe and horror at this story.

"Luckily for me, my son and his friends are all incredibly smart and they were able to find where I was being kept and where the drugs were being held. They destroyed the drugs, freed me and stopped this syndicates boss. And all the while, I did nothing to help. I couldn't do a single thing and that job was left in the hands of some inexperienced students. So yeah, I've been in a situation where it's been too much for me. Sometimes they come with drastic, and even permanent outcomes on yourself. But a hero must do what a hero must do. All of you keep this in mind when you're out there on the streets fighting a villain or saving a life. If something bad can happen, then it most likely will. And you'll be faced with a decision. Save yourself or save others. I hope all of you make the right decision." Wrath Queen said as she then hopped off her desk and changed her mood in an instant.

"Alright, now let's get things underway, shall we!? I promised a surprise today, right!? So here they are!" Wrath Queen said as she took her tablet and clicked some buttons. Some panels on the wall to the right side of the class opened up and revealed some silver briefcases.

"Each of these cases is labelled with a name. All of you go up and find the one that has your name on it. Then bring it back to your desks and open them up." She told us as everyone got up, walked over and found their designated briefcases. I took mine to my desk and laid it down. I had a pretty good idea of what was inside. And, as I unlocked it, I just cracked it open to peer inside. I'm sure a huge smile grew on my face at the time.

"When all of you were taking you various tests, you were also asked to design your own costumes. We took said designs and sent them in to a high end hero support company in California. And these are what they were able to make. Say hello to your hero costumes!" Wrath Queen said as everyone became ecstatic.

"All of you change into your costumes and meet me in the same gym as yesterday. Then we can begin your training for the day." Wrath Queen instructed as everyone took their cases and headed off to their change rooms.

"Can you believe we're already getting our own hero costumes!? This is so awesome!" Mallow shouted with excitement to me as we entered the girls change room.

"I know, I thought it would take at least a week before this happened. But then again, this is one of the top hero schools in the country so they must get top priority over some of the other schools." I said as Aqua agreed with me.

My hero costume consisted of a skin tight black and purple body suit with black thigh high boots to match. Plus, a black hoodless jacket with a sparkly purple interior. My idea for the design was "mystery" since that's basically what my quirk is every day, just a big mystery.

"Lookin' good, Harper. Kinda like a super spy just without the tux." Stella said to me as I took a look at her costume. It was a simple one piece body suit, yellow in colour with a black mask over her eyes and a black utility belt around her waste, plus dark brown army regulation boots.

"Went with a more simple design, I see. It looks good on you." I said to her as she thanked me.

"It may look simple, but like my quirk, this suit can regenerate too when it takes damage. If you cut it or burn it, it'll repair itself in just a few seconds." Stella explained.

"That's so cool!" Mallow said as I took a look at her costume. Hers looked like she was wearing football gear, with shoulder and knee pads on her. Plus, she had these large orange and white closed over her giant gorilla hands and large boots on her feet, plus what looked like a thick bulletproof vest over her chest.

"Jeez, you look like you're ready to tear down a building." Stella said which made Mallow laugh.

"Well, my quirk is more on the physical side of things so I thought some good body armor would be a nice touch. I can take hits and dish 'em back twice as hard!" Mallow said as we all laughed a bit.

"Such childish behavior..." I suddenly heard Lisa say as we all turned to face her. Her costume consisted of a light blue visor over her eyes, a dark red jacket which held multiple books inside, a black shirt underneath, black army reg. pants and dark brown boots, plus red fingerless gloves.

"Wanna say that again? I'm not sure everyone heard your superiority complex." I said to her as we both glared daggers at each other.

"You're all acting like little children. Take this more seriously, for god's sake, we're trying to be heroes." Lisa said as she exited the change room.

"Does she not realize it's only our second day? Talk about captain buzzkill." Aqua said as we all agreed with her. Aqua's costume was, like all her other normal clothes, blue in colour. She had on a navy blue dress that went down to her knees, and strapped to her back was some sort of tank, which I presumed was filled with water. It had tubes connected to it that went to her arms and legs. And strapped to them were nozzles which I could only assume would shoot out water.

"Hey, that's a good one. That should be her hero name. I can just picture it now, "here comes captain buzzkill!"" Stella said which made all of us laugh. We all then left the change room and entered the gym where all of the guys were already waiting. Guess we took longer than expected since we were having a bit of fun.

"Now you all look like real heroes!" Wrath Queen said as everyone responded with a prideful "YEAH!" I looked over to Phobos and checked out his costume. It was a more simplistic design too, just like Stella's. He had on a long black jacket that went down to his knees with a red interior. Beneath it, he had on a gray shit, darker gray pants and brown combat boots. This suited him very well as Phobos isn't really into flashy things.

"During the 4 years you'll be studying and training here at Persevering Heights, you'll all probably make upgrades and modifications to these costumes. Treat them well, they're a part of you now. They show the public and other heroes that you're here to help. Your identity." Wrath Queen said as everyone gave her a nod.

"Now, let's begin. Can anyone tell me what the most important job of a hero is?" Wrath Queen asked us as everyone shot up their hands.

"Yes, Ryan." She said.

"Defeating villains, ma'am." Ryan answered but Wrath Queen shook her head.

"While that is certainly an important duty of a hero, it is not the most vital. Fighting and beating a villain is what a hero is most known for, but there comes times where you can't always capture a villain. And that's usually because something else takes top priority. What is it?" Wrath Queen asked us as she then looked to me.

"Harper, do you think you've got the answer?" She asked me as I gave her a nod.

"Well then what is it?" She asked.

"Rescuing civilians in trouble and ensuring the safety of the public." I answered as she gave me a nod.

"Correct. Heroes act as symbols, as pillars that hold up a safe and healthy society. We make it so people can feel secure and that they don't have to worry about anything going wrong in their lives. And we answer the call to anyone who cries for help. And that's exactly what you're all going to be doing right now." Wrath Queen explained as she hit some buttons on her tablet and suddenly made the floor of the gym split apart. It turned into a 20ft. long crevasse that was easily 100ft deep. And the edges were covered in rock formations. I heard that Persevering Heights had many ways of simulating events like in the field but even this is unbelievable.

"Time to find out how all of you do at rescuing an injured civilian. I've randomized all of your names and put you into teams of 2, just like yesterday. Both of you will act as the victim and the hero, taking turns naturally. The victim can do nothing as they cry for help at the bottom of this pit with a "supposedly" broken leg. The hero must somehow find a way down, secure the victim, and then climb back out with both of you in tact. Simple, right?" Wrath Queen explained but some of us didn't seem to confident in pulling this off.

"Alright, first up is going to be Josh and Harper. Harper, you'll be the hero first." Wrath Queen said as me and Josh stepped forward. Josh's costume was an all black skin tight body suit which did phenomenally well of showing off his huge muscles. He also had a small black mask over his eyes, and a utility belt with a bunch of pouches on it, plus what looked like boots with cleats on them.

From the ceiling, a panel opened up and lowered down a harness system which Josh was strapped into. He was then lowered down into the crevasse which he then proceeded to sit down and watch to see how I would get him out.

"Whenever you're ready, Harper, you may begin." Wrath Queen said as I made my two pokeballs appear in my hand again.

"These two should work perfectly." I said to myself as Wrath Queen let out a quick giggle.

"My gosh, my son would go bonkers if he saw those things. Anyways, i'm sorry, you may continue." Wrath Queen said, referring to the pokeballs.

"Go, Ivysaur and Espeon!" I said as I tossed the balls straight up, releasing the pokemon from them as they appeared on the gym floor before me.

"Espeon, come here to me." I said to it as the pink psychic cat pokemon jumped into my arms.

"Ivysaur, you'll use vine whip to lower me and take us out of the crevasse, got it?" I instructed it as the plant/frog pokemon gave me a nod and then shot out its vines. It wrapped them around my waste and picked me up off of the ground so it could start lowering me into the crevasse.

"Espeon, use psychic on me to lower my body weight so it's easier for Ivysaur, okay?" I asked it as its eyes began to glow white. I could feel a force suddenly surround my body as I felt my weight decreasing.

"That's it, just keep it up until we reach the bottom. Hey, Josh! I'll be there soon!" I shouted to him as he gave me a confident thumbs up.

When I finally reached the bottom, my Ivysaur let me go from its vines and I put my Espeon down on the ground.

"I'm here to rescue you, can you walk at all?" I asked Josh, trying to act like this is a real scenario so I could take this more seriously.

"Alright, if we're doing that, then no, my right leg's broken and I can't walk." Josh said to me.

"Alright, I understand. Ivysaur, just like before, use your vine whip to lift up Josh here!" I ordered it as it gave me a nod before wrapping its vines around Josh's waste. It began to lift him up and I made Espeon use its psychic to help lift Josh as well. In the matter of a minute, the two of them brought him to the top of the crevasse and over the edge.

"Alright, now come back and get me, Ivysaur!" I shouted to it as it brought its vines back down. I picked up my Espeon is Ivysaur began to lift me out of the crevasse. Espeon helped out too and in no time I was out of the pit and back on the normal gym floor.

"Well done, Harper. Very impressive for your first ever go. But, knowing your quirk, i'm sure things will go differently next time. I'm sure you'll be able to handle the change though." Wrath Queen said as I thanked her. I then returned my pokemon to their balls and made them disappear.

"Alright, time to switch. Harper, you're the civilian now and Josh, you're the hero who has to rescue her." Wrath Queen said as she strapped me into the harness system and lowered me down into the bottom of the crevasse. I then got out of the harness and sat down on the rocky floor, waiting for Josh to start. He came over to the edge at the top of the pit and look down to me.

"Don't worry, Harper, i'll be down there real soon!" I heard him shout as I gave him a thumbs up, just as he did for me.

"Josh, you may begin!" I heard Wrath Queen say as, suddenly, Josh just jumped over the edge and fell right down into the crevasse, not near any walls to try and slow himself down.

"Is he crazy!?" I thought as I let out a fearful gasp. But Josh landed right in front of me, taking a bit of a knee before standing up straight and walking over to me. I'm sure my face was awe struck by what he'd just done.

"I'm here to help, miss. Are you hurt in any way? Do you have the ability to walk at all?" He asked me with a heroic sounding voice as I shook my head.

"No, I can't walk, my leg's broken." I said to him as he picked me up and slung me over his shoulders. I now hung from his back with my arms wrapped around his upper body.

"Don't worry, we'll be outta here in no time. Just hold on tightly!" He said as he walked over to the edge of the crevasse, dug his hands into the solid rock and began climbing up the side with minimal effort.

"He's making this look so easy! If his minimum strength is the heaviest thing he's ever lifted, then how strong is he, really!?" I thought, utterly baffled as he might as well have been jumping up the side of the crevasse. And in no time, he pulled us back over the edge at the top. He wasn't sweating or even breathing heavily. Hell, i'm sure that was no problem for him at all.

"Excellent work, Josh. Your physical strength is incredible. How much can you lift, exactly?" Wrath Queen curiously asked him as he put me down gently.

"Well, last time I was tested it was just over 400 pounds. And my last running speed was around 22 mph. I'm essentially an olympic athlete at this point." Josh jokingly said with a chuckle as everyone clapped for us.

"Good work from the both of you, successfully saving each other. You may join the rest of the class now and watch the remaining simulations." Wrath Queen said as we both gave her some nods before walking over to everyone else.

"Nice work, pokemon master. You two made it look super easy." Phobos said as we fist bumped.

"I'm just super glad those were the two mons I dreamed about. If i'd gotten something like a pikachu or a caterpie, that would've been WAY harder." I said as Phobos agreed.

"Next up is Phobos and Tika. Tika, you're playing the civilian first, and Phobos, you're the hero." Wrath Queen explained as Tika was strapped into the harness and lowered into the crevasse.

"Go get 'em, fireball." I said to Phobos as Wrath Queen gave him the go ahead to begin.

-POV: Phobos-

It was now my turn for this rescue lesson. Just had to somehow get down to the bottom of the pit, get Tika and get out safely. Sounds fairly easy. Instead of walking to the edge of the pit where Tika was nearest, I walked a bit down the edge so I was now about 20ft away from her.

"Whenever you're ready, Phobos, you can start." Wrath Queen said to me as I gave her a nod. I then ignited both of my arms in my black flames and stepped up to the edge of the pit. My hero costume, just like my normal clothes, was completely fire proof so I didn't have to worry about it burning away.

I jumped off of the edge and aimed both of my arms down, while also shooting out my flames so it'd slow the fall. I took it nice and slow until I finally landed and then I made my way over to Tika. And, this gave me a better chance to look at her hero costume. It was a pink and black leather jacket with lightning bolts on it, with a black sports bra underneath, black jeans and black and white sneakers, plus a pink and black headset around the back over her neck. Talk about casual.

"About time you got down here. I was starting to get bored." Tika said as I just rolled my eyes and crouched down next to her.

"Look, i'm not sure if we've gotta act like this is real or not. But since Harper and Josh did it, we might as well too. So, are you hurt and can you walk at all?" I asked her as she now rolled my eyes.

"Well I wouldn't be down here if I wasn't hurt now, would I?" She sarcastically said as I clenched my fists a bit before simply letting out a sigh.

"Fair enough. Now, i'm gonna pick you up and put you on my shoulders. Are you good with that?" I asked her as she gave me a nod. I then grabbed Tika, picked her up and placed her down so she'd be sitting on my shoulders. She was holding onto my head so she wouldn't fall off.

"Alright, hang on. Things may get a bit bumpy." I told her as I aimed both of my arms down and ignited them in flames again. I increased their velocity and we started to rise off of the ground, almost like a rocket launching. I tried to go as slow as possible so Tika wouldn't fall off me and i'd say I did a pretty good job considering we made it back to the top without any issues.

"Terrific work, Phobos. A bit iffy on your method for coming back up, but it obviously paid off. Again, nice work." Wrath Queen said to me, clearly referring to me having Tika on my shoulders. I then gently put her down and Wrath Queen brought me over to the harness. She strapped me in and then lowered me back down to the bottom where I sat down and looked up to Tika who was standing at the edge.

"If you're all set, then you can start, Tika." I heard Wrath Queen say to her as I saw Tika pull a cell phone off of the utility belt she was wearing.

"I'm gonna drop this down to you! If you don't catch it and it smashes on the ground, you're buying me a new one, got it!?" Tika shouted to me as I rolled my eyes.

"Great..... just put more pressure on me, the victim here." I thought as I gave her a nod. She then dropped her phone down into the crevasse. I was able to catch it pretty easily and I saw the phone was already.

"Now put the phone down on the ground. I'll be there in a split second!" Tika shouted as I placed the phone next to me and waited to see what she'd do next. I saw her place a wireless computer mouse on the floor next to her and then she shook her arms and neck a bit.

"Get ready!" Tika said as her body began to produce electricity before she suddenly shrunk into the computer mouse. In less than a second, she jumped out of the screen of her phone next to me, growing in size until she was normal again.

"Alright. I'm here to save you. Are you hurt in any way and can you walk?" Tika asked me, sounding incredibly displeased and bored. All I did was give her a nod before she helped me to my feet and kept my up my keeping herself under my right arm.

"We'll be back up there in just a few seconds. If i'm holding onto you, I can take you with me through the devices using my quirk. It's gonna sting just a little and it might cause you to get sick. So get ready." Tika said as I wanted to ask her some questions. But before I could even mutter a word, she activated her quirk, making electricity swirl around us both as we shrunk into her phone. Then, almost like we were in a train, we flew at the speed of lightning up to her computer mouse and came out of it, growing until we were normal size.

"Good work, Tika. And I believe that's the record for the class so far today. And Phobos.... you're looking a bit green. Are you okay?" Wrath Queen asked me but I very much wasn't.

"Oh no...." I said as I rushed for the nearest garbage can in the gym so I could throw up. Everyone laughed but I didn't really care. The same would've happened to them if they went through that.

"Oh man.... I never want to do that again...." I said as I finished getting sick and walked over to the rest of the class.

"Both of you were outstanding! Textbook work. You can join everyone else now and watch. Now then, who's next..... Joey and Michael, you're up! Michael, you'll be the hero and Joey will be the civilian." Wrath Queen said as the two of them prepared to begin.

"Hey, can one of you guys pick up my phone while you're down there?" Tika said to them as I forgot it was still down there. I guess we really couldn't take it before. Joey gave her a nod as he was being lowered into the crevasse.

Rescue training, for the most part, seemed to go pretty well for us all. Me and Tika ended up having the fastest times of the day which made me feel pretty good. And Tika seemed as happy as she was before when we were told this news. Honestly, I don't get her. She seems to disinterested in everything. It makes me even wonder why she wants to become a hero at all. But, despite her making me get sick in class, she did a pretty good job rescuing me. And i'm sure if she gets over her attitude, she'll become a truly terrific hero.

-Meanwhile, Several Hours Later-

As the school days ended for the students and as the sun began to set, the other side of the city's spectrum began to make its move. In an abandoned warehouse near the edge of Philadelphia, a small group of people were discussing certain plans....

"All this waiting is killing me. Just wanna get out there and do something already!" A man with scruffy brown hair, a black sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers said.

"Shut it! They'll come through for us. I know they will. Just be patient for once and good things will come." A larger man with medium length black and white hair said, wearing a black jacket, white undershirt, black pants and white shoes.

"Hey boss, come check this out! We've got an email here!" A girl with red hair on one half of her head said, the other half being bald. She wore a blue sweater, with black pants and brown boots. She was currently on a laptop scrolling through emails.

"Did they finally get back?" The man with the black and white hair asked as he came over to read the email.

"So, next week P.H academy is sending some of their hero course kids out for some field training, eh? Looks like they did a good job gettin' in then. And thanks to them, we've now got some nice info to make our move." The man with the black and white hair said as his two companions agreed with him.

"This'll shake things up, for sure. Things've been too quiet around here. It's time for someone to throw the stone again." The girl said.

"Yeah! The Injustice Squad is gonna kick some ass!" The man with the brown hair shouted.

"I told you to be quiet. But, you're also right. Everyone used to be talking about that League of Villains over in Japan last year. How they just wanted to make the world into their image and destroy some shit. But they failed, barely even killing any heroes, and failing to kill any of those students at that crappy U.A high." The man with the black and white hair said as his companions agreed and cheered with him.

"But now it's our turn! We're gonna do what they couldn't! Woo!" The girl shouted.

"Hero's have turned this world into a real shit hole for people like us. We've all been wronged and now it's time we rise up. We're going to do what the League of Villains could not! And it starts with killing these kids from P.H academy!" The man with the black and white hair roared.

The dark side of the hero society begins its plans. What chaos will this Injustice Squad bring with them? And will they prevail where the League of Villains did not? And just how exactly did they find out what P.H academy would be doing soon? Only time will tell as the light and the dark are drawing closer and closer together.
