Got What it Takes

And so it begins! This story of the My Hero Academia world in, well, a different part of the world. That's right, and we're going into the good ol' U.S of A. Even though I, myself and Canadian. A huge thanks to NicoandHades and Kittiowolf210 for the support and ideas, basically just everything you did for this soon to be epic story. The three of us are going to bring everything to the table, an entirely new main class, super unique quirks, brand new villains, teachers, we've got it all. So, i'm going to shut up now so we can all just get right into beginning this story. Enjoy!

Our world is not like any normal one. Or, at least it isn't anymore. Because as of a few decades ago, our world changed into something truly amazing. With the birth of a child who emanated a glowing golden light, it sparked an entirely new generation. Overtime, more and more people began to show signs of these strange changes, each different than the last. Some people acquired telepathy, some could control temperatures, and some could even fly. A world of real life superpowers was born.

In time, the world came to call these powers "Quirks." And, after multiple studies worldwide, it was determined that around 80% of the Earth's population has some type of quirk, with the remaining 20% not having one at all, with them being dubbed "Quirkless."

However, with superpowers now spreading worldwide, there comes those people who choose to use them for their own personal gain. Whether it be to find power, to steal, or even to kill, the world saw these people as true villains. And in response, others began to rise up to oppose the villains and make our world safe once again. These were heroes. People who decided they'd use their quirks for good and uphold the law. And, over many decades, heroes dominated the scene, dropping crimes rates in nearly every country to below 10%. But a hero can only hold out for so long before they have to hand up their cape. And so, the next generation must step up. And that's where I come in. This is the story of how me and my friends became some of the greatest heroes of all time.

-Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 2020-

"Harper, hurry up! You're going to be late on your first day!" I heard my mother shout to me from downstairs as I slowly rose out of my bed, my hair messy and my eyes still tired and heavy.

"It's too early to get up.... can't I just have five more minutes, please?" I said to myself, knowing my mother wouldn't hear me. I then just accepted my laziness and flopped out of my bed, now sitting on my knees on my bedroom floor. I moved aside my long red hair from in front of my face so I could see. But, it came at the cost of the morning sun nearly blinding me.

"Too bright!!" I shouted as I covered up my face with my hands to block out the sun. I then got up to my feet and walked over to pick out some clothes. Today was pretty hot so I decided a short sleeved red T-shirt and jeans would do nicely.

"Do you have everything ready for today? Make sure you don't forget anything!" I heard my mother shout to me as I just let out a sigh.

"I know it's my first day of hero school and all but i'm not some kid anymore! I'm 16, I can look after myself!" I shouted back to her as I left my room to go brush my teeth.

"Jeez, sounds like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Just make sure you don't act this way in class, okay? I'll see you later, your father's already in the car waiting for me!" I heard my mother say as I then heard her shut our front door behind her.

"Bye!" I yelled but it was already too late. I then finished brushing my teeth and loaded up my backpack with all my supplies. Pencils, notebooks, a laptop, my cell phone, everything I should need. And yes, you heard me right earlier, I did say it's my first day of hero school.

Ever since I was just a little girl, I always dreamed of becoming a hero. And now just because you get to stand out and look awesome doing it. I'm someone who really cares for others around her. I'd gladly take a bullet or anything if it meant saving someone's life.

I was part of the 80% of the population that had their own quirk. But, mine was more unique than most. My quirk is called "Dream," and it allows me to manifest whatever I dreamed about the night before into the real world. But, that object only lasts until the next time I dream, then it's onto whatever's next. So, my quirk is essentially always changing.

Last year, after I completed middle school, I signed up to take a series of tests to see if I could qualify to enter into my state's pro hero school, Persevering Heights Academy. Between a handful of written exams, and a challenging practical analysis exam, I was able to impress the panel of judges enough to enter into the awesome hero training course. And today's the day I take my first step at accomplishing my dream.

After having a quick breakfast of buttered toast and cereal, I grabbed my backpack, but on my shoes and grabbed my wallet. I then left my home and began walking down the street towards my new school.

The time was currently 7am, and classes began at 8am, so I had plenty of time to get there. But, my walk did take me through some more busy parts of the city. Between all the traffic around me and the overly crowded sidewalks, it got hard to make some progress sometimes.

"Wait, did I remember to grab some extra change for my lunch today?" I thought to myself as I pulled out my wallet and looked inside it. Zero change.

"Nope! God damn it, I knew I was forgetting something. Guess i'll have to make a stop at the bank before I get to school." I said as I made a quick detour on my route.

"Man, why couldn't I have dreamed about flying last night? That would've made all this so much easier and quicker too." I said to myself as someone suddenly place their hands over my eyes from behind.

"Guess who?" I heard a familiar boys voice say as I removed the hands and turned around. There stood my oldest and dearest friend, Phobos. He had his medium length black hair styled to the right today, and he wore his signature leather jacket with a white undershirt and jeans.

"Hey bud, how's it going!? Thought you'd still be sleeping right now." I said as I gave him a light punch on his left arm.

"New school, new me. Got some more important duties now. Can't always sleep in and be late for class now, can I?" Phobos jokingly said with a small chuckle as I nodded in agreement.

"I'm just going to the bank to grab some cash. Wanna come?" I asked him as he gave me a nod in return.

"Yeah sure, we've still got like an hour before class starts. Gives me a way to kill some time." Phobos said as we both continued on our ways to our local bank.

Phobos has been my friend since I was the age of 6. For 10 years, we played together, fought together, went to the same schools together, we did it all. And, our time together would continue as he also qualified to enter into the same hero school I was going to. In fact, we were both in the same class.

"So, who do you think our teacher's going to be? It's normally some lower level pro from around the area. Think it could be Mind Wipe? Or even Spirit Fingers?" Phobos asked as I shook my head.

"Honestly, i'm not too sure. I just hope they're friendly, that's all. Last thing we want is a teacher who's hard on their students." I said as we came to the bank.

"So dream girl, what's today remedy? Rainbow beams? Sonic shout?" Phobos asked as I shook my head again.

"Not telling. Besides, i'm sure i'll get a chance to show you during class." I said as we entered the bank. I walked over to the ATM machine and went to withdraw 20 dollars.

"Come on, can't you give me a little hint at least?" He asked me.

"Alright. What's black and white and has worse aim than Starscream? Only, I can aim." I told him as he went deep into thought about what I could've dreamed about.

"Well, given that very specific description, I think I know what it is. You can make a stor-" Phobos began to say as the doors to the bank suddenly shattered to pieces. They'd been blown down and entering the building were three men. They all wore masks over their faces and each was displaying their own quirk. One man had a quirk that let him produce electricity from his hands. The second had a similar one to the first, only he could produce fire. And, the third seemed to be the most troublesome. He was growing in size until he stopped at around 30ft. in height.

"Everybody, down on the ground, now!" The giant thug shouted as everyone in the bank, customers and workers crouched down on the ground. Me and Phobos did the same as we noticed one of the workers try and reach for a button on the front desk.

"Don't even try it! We're not here to kill people, just take your money! But, if you try anything funny or alert some heroes, we won't hesitate to kill." The man with the flaming hands said as he began to walk around the room. Meanwhile, the other two thugs approached the front desk and, well, kindly asked the teller to fill up some duffel bags they'd brought with them.

"Hey, you two! Hand over your wallets and backpacks!" The thugs with the flaming hands said as I placed my hands behind my back. Neither of us did as he said as we both just glanced at one another.

"You thinking what i'm thinking?" Phobos asked me as I gave him a nod.

"We're heroes in training now, after all. So we'll be doing this sort of stuff in time anyway." I whispered back to him as I used my quirk to make my creation from my dream last night. A real Star Wars storm trooper blaster. My dream was that I was a storm trooper that could actually hit stuff. I switched the blaster to stun as I kept it hidden behind me for the time being.

"Are the two of you deaf!? I said hand over your stuff!" The thug shouted as he began to march over to us.

"You wanna take him or should I?" Phobos asked.

"Let him get closer and then i'll get him." I replied as the thug was now within 10ft. from us.

"If you two don't give me your shit, then you're gonna be on the receiving end of some nasty flames!" The thug shouted as he began to make more flames appear on his hands.

"Now!" I shouted as I pulled my blaster out from behind me and took aim. I quickly lined up my shot and fired at the thug, hitting him near point-blank in the chest. I sent him flying backwards and he landed on his back, sliding a bit along the floor until he came to a stop. His body was twitching a bit form being stunned but he was still alive.

"Nice shot." Phobos said as I thanked him. But, our work surely didn't go unnoticed as the remaining two thugs looked over to see who was causing the commotion.

"Terrific. Something to slow us down. A couple of kids trying to be heroes." The giant thug said as they began to walk over to us.

"I'll take the big guy. You take sparkle fingers there." I said to Phobos as he gave me a nod.

"Finally, a reason to let loose a bit!" Phobos said as he ignited his arms in black flames. His quirk allowed him to create an manipulate black fire. Unlike a normal fire, these flames are so hot that they are capable of burning away other flames.

"Come here, kids! I'm gonna squeeze the life outta ya!" The giant thug shouted as he reached down for us. I began to shoot him with my blaster but my stunning shots weren't effecting him at all.

"What!? It's not working!?" I said in a panic as my lower body was grabbed. Phobos jumped out of the way before he could get caught and then he aimed his hands at the thug holding me.

"Eat this! Black Flare!" He shouted as he unleashed a stream of black fire point blank into the giant thugs chest.

"Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!" The thug wailed as Phobos burned through the jacket he was wearing and began torching his skin.

"Back off, kid! Or else you might be in for quite a shock!!" The other thug shouted as he aimed his right hand at Phobos and fired a lightning bolt at him.

"Look out!!" I screamed but it was already too late. Phobos was struck and sent flying into a stone pillar. He fell to the ground and struggled to get up.

"Stay down, boy. Otherwise, the little red head here...... well..... let's just say I've got a pretty tight grip." The giant thug said as he began to squeeze me in his hand.

"Ouch! Let go of me!!" I shouted as I tried to break free. But I just couldn't slip away whatsoever.

"HEY!!!" Someone else suddenly roared through the bank as everyone turned to look at who had just shouted. Standing in the broken entrance of the bank was a girl, maybe around my age with long white straight hair, red, blue, and green multicolored eyes, wearing a purple t-shirt, black jeans, red sneakers, and a backpack.

"Take your hands off of her right now, or else!!" The girl demanded as the two thugs began to laugh at her.

"Or else what, sweetheart!? You gonna make a fool of yourself like these two?" The smaller thug asked as the girl slipped off her backpack and then cracked her knuckles.

"Or else i'm gonna kick your sorry butts. Now, who's first?" The girl said as she readied her fists to fight.

"This'll be a peace of cake. She's mine!" The giant thug shouted as he threw me away over to Phobos and started marching over to the new girl.

"Hey, get out of here! These guys are too strong, you're gonna get hurt!" I shouted to the girl as she just stood there. The giant thug was quickly approaching her and she wasn't moving a muscle.

"Hit me with your best shot, you big idiot!" The girl taunted the thug as he reeled back his left fist.

"I'm gonna send you to an early grave, pipsqueak! You're dead!" The thug roared as he drove his fist down onto the girl. But, as he made contact, he quickly brought his hand back and grasped it. The thug bellowed in pain as we could see his knuckles were bleeding.

"How in the world did.... that..... happen...." I said as I looked over to the girl to see her still standing in that same position, only with her body now changed. Her entire body, besides her clothes had turned into diamond. It was no wonder why she wasn't afraid of the giant thug.

"Bring it on, big guy. With your quirk, you can't hurt me at all." The girl taunted again as her skin suddenly changed back to normal.

"I may not be able to punch you but that doesn't mean I can't grab you! Now, come here!" The thug shouted as he reached down and grabbed the lower body of the girl.

"Not gonna happen!" The girl yelled as she changed her body to diamond again. The thug attempted to pick her up but he was clearly struggling. The girl's weight must increase drastically when she activates her quirk.

"Damn it..... so.... heavy!!" The giant thug grunted as the diamond girl grasped his hand around her and pried open his grip on her.

"DID YOU JUST CALL ME FAT!? YOU JERK, I'M GONNA PUMMEL YOU!?" The diamond girl shouted as she leaped right for the thugs chest.

"Wait, what!? I didn't say tha-" The thug tried to say as the girl drove her right diamond arm into him. She made him stumble back and it was clear he'd taken some damage. He fell to one knee and was breathing very heavily. The diamond girl approached him and then suddenly gasped for air. Her skin returned to normal as she now stood before the giant thug.

"Ready to give up?" She smuggly asked him as the smaller thug suddenly jumped over the larger ones body and aimed his hands at her.

"Die, you little bitch!" The thug shouted as he fired two bolts of lightning at her. The girl took a quick breath and turned her skin to diamond once more before getting struck. She was sent flying backwards and she landed hard against a wall. In fact, she hit it so hard she embedded herself into it.

"I know i'm made of diamond and all, but..... ow....." The girl said with pain in her voice as her body turned back to normal.

"You three kids ruined everything for us! We'd been planning this robbery for weeks and you just had to show up and shoot us down! Screw the money, all I care about right now is killing all of you!" The smaller thug shouted as the larger one got back up to both of his feet.

"Uh oh...." I said with a bit of fear in my voice as the smaller thug aimed one of his lightning hands at me and Phobos and his other at the diamond girl.

"Now is that any way to treat simple children?" Yet another new person asked as we all saw someone walk into the bank.

"Oh for god's sake, what n-" The smaller thug began to ask as he suddenly stopped when he saw the new person. It was an older woman this time, maybe in her 40's. She had long white hair as well, bright blue eyes, and she was wearing a red and black scaly patterned hero costume. And, what stood out the most was her right arm. Unlike the rest of her body, it was made of pure fire.

"Great, we took too long with these kids and now a freakin' hero's shown up! Let's take her down and scram!" The giant thug shouted as a long green scaly and spiky tail came around the hero. She flicked it forward and from the spikes on it, some sort of residue flung forward and splattered against the thugs.

"What the heck is this stuff?" The smaller thug questioned as he tried to wipe it off. But, it wasn't coming off him.

"Part of my quirk. That's a highly potent venom that I store within this tail of mine. If I inject it or if it even so much as touched your skin, then you'll become paralyzed in three minutes for up to an hour. Better deal with me quickly boys, or else that'll be one slow getaway of yours." The hero said as the smaller thug aimed his hands at her and began to generate even more electricity on them.

"One shot is all I need to take you down!" The thug shouted as he fired an enormous thunderbolt at the hero. In response, the hero raised up both of her arms and unleashed a fireball that struck the thunderbolt. The attacks ripped each other apart, ending in a stalemate and a cloud of smoke that quickly filled the room.

"Damn it, I can't see now!" The smaller thug shouted as the smoke was suddenly blown away. The hero reemerged and both of her arms, including the one made of fire, were now in the shape of two 8ft. long dragon wings. She'd used them to clear out all the smoke by flapping them. And, when she was done, she turned her arms back to normal.

"You've got a bit of power, little guy. It was enough to match that basic attack of mine. Now, let's see how you match up when I step up my game." The hero said as her legs suddenly turned reptilian, growing massive talons and scales.

"Dread Talon!" She shouted as she leaped for the smaller thug and began to flip in midair.

"If one shot won't do it, then i'll just use two!" The thug roared as he fired his lightning again. But, the hero struck the bolt with one of her talons and literally knocked it away straight down into the marble flooring of the bank.

"Too weak!" The hero shouted as she swung one of her talons with all her might over her and delivered a powerful axe kick to the small thugs head. She drove it into the ground and stood atop him as he wasn't moving at all. With just one hit, she'd KO'd him.

"Now then, I do believe it's just you left, right, big fella?" The hero asked as she turned to face the giant thug, the only one remaining.

"Who cares if you're some pro hero, you're no match for me and my quirk!" The thug roared as he reeled back his right arm and then drove it down at the hero. The hero's only action was to simply raise up her left index finger and hold it out in front of her. The thugs movements were beginning to slow down and, by the time he touched her finger, he had come to a full stop and couldn't move.

"What!? Why can't I move anymore!?" The thug questioned as the hero let out a sigh.

"You low life criminals don't know how to listen, do you? I did tell you my venom activates after three minutes, right? And, if my counting ability is correct, which it always is, it's been three minutes. You really should've attacked me before with your buddy while you could, otherwise you wouldn't be stuck there paralyzed. And now, this fuss is all over. You lose." The hero said intimidatingly as she pulled out a phone from a pocket in her costume.

"Yes, police? I've had a run in with some criminals at a nearby bank. I've handled them but I can't bring them in. Can you send someone over to pick them up, please? I'm sending my position right now." We heard the hero said as she hit some buttons and then shut off her phone. And then, she came marching over to me and Phobos and helped us both back up to our feet.

"That was amazing! I've never seen a pro hero handle villains like that up close before!" I said in awe as the hero gave us a smile.

"Thanks. And you two, as well as that other girl over there did a fine job handling the situation here...." The hero said as we smiled back. And, I was about to say something but she interrupted me.

"....Is what I would say if you actually did a good job. You all put yourselves at risk by taking on these thugs, and you very nearly got yourselves killed! Next time, think before you act! Make the smart play and don't get involved in a heroes business!" The hero shouted to all three of us as she walked over to the diamond quirk girl and pulled her out of the wall.

"Look, we're so incredibly sorry, ma'am. It's just that, well.... me and my friend here are about to become heroes in training. We're both going to Persevering Heights. And we just couldn't sit by and watch a robbery take place. We had to take action, it's what heroes do." Phobos said as I agreed with him.

"Actually, i'm going to Persevering Heights as well. And, I guess my story's the same as these two. Saw this place being robbed on my way by so I figured i'd try to help." The diamond girl explained to the hero as the hero just sighed and rolled her eyes.

"I don't have time for this, i'm going to be late. Just, please think about what you do first, okay?" The hero said as we all gave her nods. I then looked at my phone and saw the time.

"Oh my gosh, we're gonna be late to our first day! Jeez, the time went by so fast!" I said in disbelief as we all looked to the hero.

"Please, is there any chance you can give us a lift to the school, ma'am?" Phobos begged her as she just rolled her eyes again.

"You three are so very lucky that I have to go in that direction. Fine, i'll give you a lift. Which of you is riding on my back?" The hero asked as the diamond quirk girl shot up her hand.

"Very well. Follow me." The hero said as we all walked outside the bank. The hero turned her arms into wings again and her legs into talons. The diamond quirk girl climbed onto the heroes back and then the hero grabbed onto me and Phobos' waists with her talons before taking flight. We flew over the city, going over dozens of buildings before we finally came to our new school. Persevering Heights Academy.

The school was huge and state of the art. A large wall surrounded it on all sides, ensuring villains think twice before entering the grounds. We could see students walking through the front doors in massive numbers, all headed for their first classes of the day. The hero carrying us brought us all in for a fairly smooth landing as she let go of me and Phobos when we reached about 2 feet off of the ground. The other girl got off of her back and the hero began to fly back up into the air.

"You three be careful! I'll see ya around!" The hero said as she took off over the roof of the school, disappearing from our sights.

"Damn.... I should've asked for an autograph. I've never seen that hero around here before. She must be pretty new or from some other country." Phobos said in awe as the other girl approached the two of us.

"I saw a bit of what you two did before I stepped in back at the bank. In my opinion, you weren't bad at all." She said as we shook hands with her.

"Thanks. And, what a coincidence that you go to this school with us. You a first year too?" I asked her as she nodded.

"Yep. Amelia Ramsays, first year at Persevering Heights, class 2." She told us as me and Phobos both let out some sighs.

"Well, that's a bit unfortunate. We're both in class 1. I'm Phobos, by the way. Phobos Martellin." He said to Amelia.

"And i'm Harper Leesons. We thank you for your support back in the bank." I said as she gave us a nod. But then, the bell rang, signalling the start of class.

"Oh shit! We're late!" We all shouted as we took off into the school, separating since we weren't in Amelia's class.

Around 5 minutes later, me and Phobos found our homeroom, Class 1, and we entered it. All of the students inside turned and began staring at us. It made us both feel totally awkward.

"Ah, there you two are. You must be Harper and Phobos. I guess better late than never is what matters here. Regardless, it's day one so i'll consider going easy on you two. Now, please take the last two seats in the room so we may begin." A familiar sounding voice said as we both looked to the front of the classroom. Standing there was a woman in a very familiar looking red and black hero costume with long snow white colored hair.

"No way!! She's our teacher!!??"
