And our top 16 is set. And yeah, neither Midoriya or Uraraka made it in. This is our story, we discussed who we wanted, and these 16 are who we get. But trust us, all of these students will bring some truly spectacular fights. Especially our first one. Phobos is set to take on everyone's favourite Icy-Hot hero, Todoroki. And, besides a few fights, every single fight, the winner was simply determined by a coin flip. And that's what determined the winner for this fight. So it's just a 50/50. Will your guess be correct? Will Phobos defeat the near unstoppable Todoroki? Or will Todoroki blow away Phobos as he typically does to everyone? Let's find out! Enjoy!

-POV: Phobos-

After the second event came to an end, all 16 students who still remained were given their own private waiting room. Inside them was just a table, some chairs, a couch and a tv to watch the other matches. But, I wouldn't be waiting long because I was in the first match of the day.

My first and potentially last opponent was an incredibly tough one. His name is Todoroki and he's one of the very best at U.A High. He's the son of the current number one hero, Endeavor, meaning he's probably had some personal training from him as well. I watched him during last years U.A sports festival so I know his quirk is the ability to create and control both ice and fire. He's like me just with two forms of offense. 

He came in 2nd place during the last U.A sports festival, which means he's also got the skills to back up his quirk. I have to give everything I've got if I want a chance at defeating him at all.

"Alright guys, our top 16 students are set and our awesome matchups have been determined. Who're you guys looking forward to seeing fight the most?" Present Mic asked his co-hosts on the TV in my room. 

"I couldn't care less. I just want this to be over." Eraser Head said as it looked like he just dozed off. 

"Captain Buzzkill, everyone!!! All Might, what about you!?" Mic asked him as All Might put his fingers together and began to think. 

"Hmm..... all of them showed superb prowess, skill, and intelligence during the first two events. It's hard to pinpoint a favourite match. Young Bakugo's always a site to behold. But then again i'd like to see what some of our other students from around the world can do. 3 top students are in this final. Sergei of Gregorvsky Alpha, Trini from Queen's Strong, and Cry from our U.A. And, from what people have told me, the competitor named Lisa scored the highest when she entered into Persevering Heights. So, in terms of all their first years, she's technically the top student. And seeing as she's facing Cry in the fifth match, I guess i'll say that's the one i'm looking forward to the most." All Might explained. 

"Yeah, i'm with ya there!!! But another one to look forward to is our first match!! U.A star, Todoroki's trained hard after his nail biting loss in the championship match of last years U.A sports festival!! It could've gone either way but Cry just barely overpowered his dual quirk! But the son of Endeavor never stays down long! We'll find out shortly if his mastery of ice and fire can surpass Phobos' supreme black flame!" Present Mic announced as I tried to calm my nerves. Besides the short run-in with those villains during our forest training mission, I haven't actually fought someone for real before. I've fought with Harper when we were kids before, but that's a whole different league than now. 

"Nervous?" I heard someone ask me as I turned to look at the door to my room. There stood Harper leaning in the doorway with her arms crossed. I didn't even realized she opened my door. 

"Is it that obvious?" I asked as she chuckled a bit. 

"Well, for one, you're pacing. And you only do that when you're concerned about something. So, what's on your mind?" She asked me as I sat down on the arm of my couch closest to her. 

"Well, it's like you said, i'm nervous. I'm about to go out there in front of millions of people. Just thinking about that is ultra-intimidating. But on top of it I've got to face one of the strongest students in the world as my first opponent." I explained to her as Harper chuckled some more. 

"Nah, you'll be fine. At least you don't have to face one of your teachers in your first match." Harper said as I remembered she had to face Jiro first in match 6. 

"Yeah, good luck with that one. Meanwhile i'm stuck with the runner up from last years U.A festival who nearly froze the entire stadium." I said as Harper just rolled her eyes. 

"You're overthinking all this. Tell me, what's ices biggest weakness?" She asked me as I let out a small smirk and chuckle. 

"Fire...." I said to her. 

"And what else does he use?" She asked me. 

"Fire...." I answered as she just sighed now. 

"And what do you have....?" Harper asked. 

"Fire...." I answered. 

"And what's special about your flames?" She continued to ask. 

"It burns other flames." I said to her. 

"So what the hell are you so nervous about? Your quirk deals with his dual quirk perfectly. You melt his eyes, you burn away his flames. You WILL win. And if you don't then you'll never hear the end of it from me, ya hear?" Harper said to me as I just started laughing. 

"Okay, okay, I see where you're coming from. But even so, Todoroki's got a whole year of experience over me, plus he's got Endeavor in his side of the ring. Even if I do have an advantage, it's not gonna be easy." I said as Harper just sighed again. 

"You're joking, right? We've fought villains, dummy. This is nowhere near that level of pressure. You have zero things to worry about. So just have fun." Harper said as she then left and closed my door behind her. 

"Just have fun, eh.....?" I said to myself as the P.A system in my room came on. 

"Competitor Phobos, please make your way to your starting entry gate. Your match will begin shortly." The voice over the system said as it then cut out. 

And with that, I got off my couch and exited my waiting room, heading all the way down to my gate where I was told to wait until I was called into the arena. A 200ft circular battlefield had been set up in the centre of the stadium grounds. That's where all battles would take place. 

"Alright all you roaring sports festival fans, it's time we kick off our final round with a bang!!! And these first two combatants are sure to heat things up!!" Present Mic shouted as the crowd was getting all hyped up again. I was then told by the supervisors at my gate to head towards the battlefield. 

"First up, from your very own Persevering Heights, he's used his quirk to blast himself through all obstacles that came his way!! Placing third in the last event, he's looking to come out on top in this epic battle!! Put your hands together for Phobos Martellin!!" All Might announced as I walked out of my gate and made my way over to the battlefield. I waved back to the crowd and kept a big smile on my face, trying to hide the fear behind it. 

"And now for his opponent! From U.A high, this second year was the runner up in last years festival!! But he's looking to take the crown on this even greater world stage!! The son of the number one hero in the world, it's Shoto Todoroki!!" Present Mic announced as Todoroki came through his gate. He didn't wave back or even look at the crowd at all. He just had this stone cold expression on his face as he was completely focused on me. He walked up and stood in his position on the battlefield as we waited for this fight to start. 

"Before we begin, let's quickly go over the rules of these battles!!! Anything goes so long as you don't go and try to kill your opponent!! Ko'ing, blasting them off the battlefield or making your enemy cry uncle ensures you a victory here!! Each battle will have a 30 minute time limit! And, in the case that time runs out or a double KO occurs, the officials will decide the outcome of the fight and determine which of the two fighters moves on!!!" Mic explained as the crowd was starting to shout out BOO's. 

"Sound like the audience is tired of waiting, Mic, so let's get the party started!!! Is that what you want, everyone!?" All Might shouted to the crowd as they all responded with an enormous "YEAH!!!!"

"Alright then!!! Here we go!!! 3.... 2.... 1.......... BEGIN!!!!" Present Mic screamed into his microphone as Todoroki instantly went for the first move. From his right foot, he began to create huge ice spires that were quickly making their way towards me. 

"Black Flare!!" I shouted as I ignited my left arm in my black flames. I shot it straight out and unleashed a huge stream of flames that struck Todoroki's spires. I blew through them and melted them with ease. But all Todoroki did to dodge my attack was take a few steps to his left. He didn't look too impressed either. 

"You can create and manipulate fire, just as me. Yours may look cooler in terms of colour, but that's all yours have over mine." Todoroki said as he then ignited his left hand in his bright orange and red flames. 

"You're gonna find out quickly that I don't just have any ordinary flame quirk! I've got a flame that can rival even your fathers!" I said to him as he smirked a bit. 

"Is that so? Then show me." Todoroki said as he whipped his left arm around and shot a wave of fire at me. 

"That's not gonna work on me." I said as I did the same, whipping my left arm across me to fire my own wave of dark flames. Our attacks collided and my instantly broke through Todoroki's and went straight for him. 

"What!?" He said with surprise as he ducked underneath to dodge my attack. 

"Shocked? My quirk allows me to produce a flame so hot that it can burn away most other flames it comes in contact with. And it seems yours aren't hot enough to resist mine." I said to Todoroki as he stood back up and spread his legs a bit. 

"Believe me, I can turn up the heat very quickly. I'm still going to win." Todoroki said as, from his right foot, he began to make more ice spires shoot from the ground, only he made them come from two angles. He made two different paths that they emerged from and both came at me from my left and right. 

"That won't work either!" I shouted as I now ignited my other arm in my flames and held them straight out to my sides. I fired more streams of flames from them that melted away the spires when they got close, but this seemed to be Todoroki's plan.

"And that's that." Todoroki said as I saw him place his right hand down on the battlefield floor. From it, he sent a huge wall of ice at me. I quickly stopped shooting my flames and held my arms out but I had no time to fire my flames. Todoroki's ice wall struck me but the flames on my arms were keeping me from being pushed back. I was melting my way through the ice but my flames were quickly beginning to go out. And I was beginning to lose feeling in the lower parts of my feet and legs. Todoroki was freezing me in place and he kept up his relentless assault until I was frozen from my shoulders down.

"Todoroki's completely immobilized Phobos!! Is this the end!? Or can Phobos find a way to escape his frozen prison!?" Present Mic announced as I could barely feel my body. 

"Don't feel bad, kid. We're just in two different leagues." Todoroki said as he turned to walk away. 

"D-Don't..... count me out..... y-yet!!!" I said as my frozen arms ignited once more and melted away the ice encasing them. Todoroki turned around in utter shock as I melted my way out of the ice and reheated my body. 

"He's done it! Phobos has found a way back into this fight!! We're not done yet, folks!!" All Might announced as I started to run straight for Todoroki. 

"I guess i'll just have to hit you with something harder then!" Todoroki shouted as he ran for me as well. He ignited his entire left arm in his flames and he amped it up by making the fire turn a bright blue colour. 

"Dark Flare Fist!!" I shouted as the two of us met in the center of the battlefield. 

"Flash Fire Fist!!" Todoroki roared as we both threw our flaming punches at each other. We collided with a vengeance and created a huge shockwave that sent out fire everywhere. But, my fire wasn't burning through Todoroki's. It was hot enough to resist mine, meaning I couldn't easily overpower him. 

"The two fighters smash into each other with some truly deadly flaming fists!! But whose will come out on top!?" Present Mic announced as Todoroki was beginning to push me back. I was literally sliding backwards along my feet. 

"Just because your flame is hotter, that doesn't mean it's better! I used to see my flame as a burden from my father, but I've learned to accept is as a gift that i'll use to become a great hero! Now, i'll use it to defeat you!!" Todoroki shouted as he made another push against me. 

"You may have Endeavor on your side, but all of us at Persevering Heights have someone else much greater on ours!! We're not fighting to win!! We're fighting to make our teacher, Wrath Queen proud!!! She fought and risked her life to protect us, so we're fighting to uphold her honor and spirit!!" I roared as I relieved pressure with my left arm and ducked under Todoroki's left arm. I then reached up and grabbed his arm, turned myself around and then pulled Todoroki over me and slammed him down on the ground in front of me. 

"What a move by Phobos! He's beginning to turn this battle around!!" All Might announced as Todoroki quickly reached over with his right hand and touched my left leg. He froze it to the ground and stopped me from moving for the moment as he got back up and stepped back a bit. 

"Not bad....." Todoroki said as he wiped a bit of blood off of his lower lip.

"Thanks, you're not bad yourself. But you're still gonna lose." I told him as he chuckled a bit. 

"That's not gonna happen. There's someone I have to meet in the championship. I have to defeat him, otherwise I will never become the greatest hero." Todoroki said as I reached down and grasped the ice around my leg with my left arm. I melted the ice and freed myself as I became curious. 

"And who the hell is that?" I asked him. 

"Your substitute teacher. I want to beat Cry more than anything. I was so close to taking him down in last years festival, but luck just wasn't on my side. I took two of his fingers, but he took the win. And it's haunted me ever since. And he's only gotten better with his new reality quirk." Todoroki explained to me as I now became even more curious. 

"New reality quirk? What's that supposed to mean?" I asked him as he took one step forward with his right leg. 

"It means that he's widening the gap between me and him!!! I can't lose here, so i'm sorry Phobos!!! But I have to win!!!" Todoroki said as he began to create all around him from his right foot. It was rising up as a wall next to him until a small flame ignited from his left arm. 

"Here it comes, folks!! Todoroki's going for his strongest move!!! Will it bring him a swift victory or can Phobos find a way to counter it!? Keep your eyes peeled because you won't want to miss a second of what happens next!!" Present Mic announced as I took a few steps back. 

"He's gonna hit me with everything he's got..... an attack that can wreck the entire battlefield..... how the heck am I supposed to counter that!?" I thought to myself as I then remembered the words of Wrath Queen. 

"A hero does not give up ever, even in the face of danger. We fight on to the bitter end, and we find a way to overcome all the odds. We put our lives on the line to save those who cannot protect themselves. In a fight, whether it be against friend or foe, remember that. Every battle may be your last, so you should always bring your absolute maximum to the fight. That is what it means to go Plus Ultra. Go beyond your very limits and surpass any and all obstacles that stand in your way." I remembered her saying in one of our lessons as I reignited both of my arms and held them above my head. 

"I'm not losing here. I may not have someone i'm trying to meet in this competition, but I still have someone to fight for." I said as my flames came together above me and began forming into a massive black fiery ball above my head. 

"Woah!! It looks like Phobos is charging up as well!! We may want to hold onto our seats!!" All Might announced as Todoroki's flame grew even larger and started melting the ice next to him. By doing that, he could expand the air to make his flames grow to massive proportions. He was going to hit me with a supercharged blast of heat. 

"Wrath Queen taught us to fight, she taught us how to be heroes! If I were to lose now, i'd make not just her teaching but everyone else in my class look weak and like fools!!!" I said as the remainder of my flames went into my giant fireball. 

"Ultimate move...." Todoroki began to say as an enormous flame erupted from his left side, turning blue in colour as he raised up his left hand and aimed it at me. 

"Surpass my limit!!! I've gotta go beyond it all!!!! Plus Ultra!!!" I shouted as I thrusted my arms forward. 

"FLASHFREEZE HEATWAVE!!!" Todoroki roared as he unleashed a colossal stream of blue flames at me. 

"GIGATON WILDFIRE!!!!" I screamed as I sent my huge black fireball flying at Todoroki. 

Our two mighty attacks collided and created shockwaves that both cracked and began melting away the very battlefield itself. The stadium was shaking from the collision as neither of our attacks were breaking through the other.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" We both roared at the top of our lungs as we poured every bit of energy we had into our attacks. But we couldn't overpower the other. Our attacks merged into one, turning into a monumental sized swirling ball of fire. And, after a brief moment of silence, the fireball exploded, filling the entire stadium with smoke as it reached all the way up into the sky. 

"OH MY GOODNESS!!! BOTH COMBATANTS STRONGEST ATTACKS WERE EVENLY MATCHED!!! BUT WHICH OF THEM GOT THE BETTER OF THIS EQUAL EXCHANGE!? ARE THEY STILL STANDING!!??" Present Mic screamed. 

"Will you shut up and wait patiently already so the smoke can clear?" Eraser Head said to him as the official for our match used a wind type quirk to blow away the smoke. The first to appear was me. I was on my knees with blood coming out of my nose and parts of my forehead. I was still on the battlefield though. 

"Phobos is still standing!!! But what of Todoroki!? What is the condition of his opponent!?" All Might asked as the rest of the smoke was cleared. Todoroki was revealed to everyone and he was standing on both of his feet, but he had been blown back to the very edge of the battlefield. 

"There he is, and he's standing tall on both legs!! It looks like he's gotten the better of the exchange!!" Present Mic announced as Todoroki's training jacket had completely burned away. His torso, as well as several parts of his head were bleeding and charred. But, more importantly, he wasn't actually moving. His eyes were a blank white colour. 

"Is..... is he.....?" I began to question as Todoroki began to fall backwards and off of the battlefield. He landed on his back on the ground and the entire stadium went silent. 

"Todoroki is both out of bounds and is unable to continue!! The victor is Phobos!! He advances to the quarter finals!!" The official announced as the entire crowd erupted into cheers. 

"HE'S DONE IT!! PHOBOS HAS DEFEATED TODOROKI!! WHAT AN UPSET!! AND YET WHAT AN AMAZING WAY TO KICK OFF THE FINAL ROUND!!!" Present Mic screamed as I just sat on my knees, breathing heavily and in utter shock that i'd actually beaten someone as good as Todoroki. 

"Well, I can say I certainly wasn't expecting this outcome. But, half of the first years at Persevering Heights was trained by well known hero and number 12 ranked, Wrath Queen. It's obvious Phobos learned to use his flames in a way she would, meaning he's versatile, agile, and powerful." Eraser Head said into his microphone as paramedics came out onto the battlefield to take away both me and Todoroki. 

"It's truly a spectacle to watch the underdog rise above all odds to claim victory. In fact, Phobos' use of his flame quirk reminded me of a certain number one hero." All Might announced as me and Todoroki were taken off the battlefield on stretchers. We were headed to the infirmary to be healed up, and I rested myself comfortably as I finally had a moment to relax. after all, I'd just beaten one of the top students of the most prestigious hero school in the world. 

"Sorry Todoroki..... but I told you i'd win."

-POV: Josh-

As I watched the first match come to an end, I couldn't help but rise to my feet and shout with excitement for Phobos. He just took down one of the favourites to win this whole competition. He deserves a good rest before his next match. And, speaking of the next match, it was going to begin soon. I watched the TV screen in my room as I did laps around my table. 

"What a way to open up the final round, am I right!? And i'm sure this next match will also be super hype!! Let's bring out the combatants!!" Present Mic announced as the crowd got all riled up like before. 

"I've got this one. From Queen's Strong, this student is looking to blow away all opposition with his snow quirk! He may be small, but he can certainly pack quite a punch!! It's Wallace Overtee!!" All Might announced as the student came out of his gate. He was indeed small, only about 5ft tall, with fuzzy light gray hair and green eyes. He waved to the crowd as he stepped onto the battlefield and waited for his opponent. 

"And now for his opponent! This third year from Gregorvsky Alpha rampaged his way through the first two events!! Standing as the top student at his school, he's looking to knock down anyone who gets in his way! With a quirk that lets him turn into an actual demon, there might not be anything that can!!! Introducing Sergei Bolochov!!!" Present Mic shouted as the student came into the arena. He was huge, even taller than me and i'm 6ft 4in. He had very short brown hair, purple eyes and muscles to match my own. 

"This is sure to be an interesting one, folks!! Will we see an upset once again!? Or will the favourite, Sergei claim victory!? Let's find out right now!! Count it down with me everyone!!" Pesent Mic announced as the entire crowd began to countdown to the start of the match.

"3.... 2..... 1....... BEGIN!!!!" The entire stadium roared as Wallace made the first move. 

"I'm gonna blow you right off this battlefield!!! White Blizzard!!" Wallace shouted as he raised up both of his arms and unleashed a huge whirling wind of snow at Sergei. 

"Puny child and puny quirk." Sergei said as he walked right into the blizzard. 

"What's this!? Sergei's just casually walked into the snow!? Is he crazy!?" Present Mic questioned as a loud roaring sound started to come from inside the blizzard. The cameras zoomed in so even I could see what was going on, and I could see Sergei was transforming into something much, much bigger. 

"What the hell is that?" I said as a towering beast of a creature came walking out of the snow. It was easily 15ft tall, dark green in colour with large fangs, curved horns, a muscular body, razor sharp claws, a long tail, and wings which were attached to its arms.

"It looks like Sergei's activated his quirk!! Take a good look everyone because this is the power of a demon!!" All Might said as Sergei marched over to Wallace. 

"My snow's not affecting him!? Alright then, i'll just have to turn down the bloody temperature!! Ultimate Technique: Frozen Hailstorm!!" Wallace shouted as he clapped his hands, reeled back his arms and then quickly thrusted them forward. In the air around him, huge chunks of ice began to form and he sent them all flying right at Sergei. 

"No small child can match the might of Sergei!! Begone!!" Sergei roared with a demonic sounding voice as he swiped his claws at the incoming ice chunks. He demolished them with minimal effort but there was so many of them that he couldn't break them all. He began to get bombarded by them and he let out another roar, most likely from pain. 

"I will not be stopped!!! Demonic Hellfire!!!" Sergei bellowed as he let out a huge burst of flames from his mouth. He spewed his flames everywhere and melted the ice in an instant. And when he was finished, he looked down to Wallace who looked a little frightened. 

"Was that your best, child? It's suiting for someone like you. A small boy with a weak quirk. It makes me laugh!!" Sergei said to Wallace as he chuckled at him. 

"I'll show you!! I'll just have to hit you with that again until you stay down!! Ultimate Technique: Frozen Hailst-" Wallace tried to say but Sergei reached forward and grabbed onto his face. He then lifted him up and held him right in front of him, Sergei unraveling a long tongue in his mouth to lick Wallace a few times. 

"You're shaking, boy. Why is that?" Sergei asked. 

"You...... You're a monster!!" Wallace shouted to him as he was trying to break free of Sergei's grip. 

"You're right. And I hope that's how the villains see me as well. The monster hero." Sergei said as he reeled back his arm, along with Wallace and then threw him forward. Wallace was sent across the battlefield, all the way out of bounds and to the back wall by his gate which he struck with enough force to crack it a little.

"Gregorvsky Alpha reigns supreme!!! RAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!" Sergei roared to the crowd as he turned himself back to normal. 

"In an overwhelming display of power, Sergei dominates Wallace and advances to the second round!! He's set to meet Phobos in what will be a clash of the titans!!" Present Mic announced as the crowd went absolutely nuts. 

"So that's the strength of a top student. That's unreal. And we still haven't seen what that Trini girl or what Cry can really do. If they're anything like Sergei, then I don't think anyone, not even me can beat them." I thought to myself as I heard the door to my waiting room open. 

"Did I miss much?" Phobos asked me as I saw he had some things plugged up his nose and bandages wrapped around his forehead. 

"Well, I've gotta say, you're gonna need some MAJOR luck for your next match. No offense, bud." I said to him as he walked in and sat down on my couch. 

"Honestly dude, after beating Todoroki, I feel so much better about myself that I feel like I can take on anyone. I beat one of the top students, and now I've gotta face another. All I can say is bring it on." Phobos said as I went over and sat down next to him. 

"God, I wish I had your enthusiasm. If it were me going against one of those top students, i'd fear for my life. That Sergei, if he wanted to, he could've killed that kid from Queen's Strong. All he had to do was thrown him and it was over. The fight wasn't even a minute long. I pray for you in the quarter finals." I said to him as he just laughed it off. 

"Yeah, well, if you win your first match, then you mighty also have to face a top student in the quarter finals. The, uh, the one from Queen's Strong." Phobos said as I just rolled my eyes. 

"Trust me, I was trying not to think about it. She's got freakin' ESP and I don't exactly have a way to beat that. If I do get to that fight, I don't know how I can win." I said as Phobos just laughed some more. 

"Well, it looks like we're about to find out if she's the opponent in the quarter finals or not. She's up next." Phobos said as the next match was about to begin. I waited in anticipation to see which of the next two students would be my possible opponent if I won my first battle. Hopefully, Trini doesn't win.
