SERENA
The sun was scorching. As the honey blonde walked down the road with sweat dripping from her forehead, she wanted nothing more than to slap some common sense in her. Serena was going to meet May in the hospital and she had turned Ash down to give her a ride. She was sure she would get a taxi but her phone had been dead and there was not a single one in sight.
"Curses on me, I should have taken him up on the offer" Serena grumbled in annoyance. Even though she said that, she wasn't entirely regretful about it. It was better than sharing the same space as him and having her heat skip beats and choke her to death. Yeah, right. She wanted to live a peaceful life till all of her teeth falls out. And Ash's handsome face was dangerous for her weak heart.
"Ouch!" She yelped out when suddenly, her body collided with another person who had walked out of the boutique. Serena helplessly watched herself fall on the ground, her hips aching at the impact. She groaned, looking at the other woman whose bags had scattered on the ground. She quickly got up and apologizing profusely, started picking up the shopping bags.
"I am really, really sorry. I wasn't looking" Serena parroted, embarrassed. She lended a hand to the woman.
"Its okay, you don't have to" The woman insisted with a deep French accent as she began picking up the rest. Serena handed her the ones in her arm. It was then that the honey blonde took note of the one she had collided with. She had puffed and dyed blue hair, a few shades lighter than Dawn's. Her eyes were a bright orange, like the flames of firewood. Serena could guess that she was from a very well-to-do family considering the expensive signature design outfit of Valerie that she had worn.
"Thanks for your help" The blue haired woman smiled gratefully.
"Yeah well, it was my fault so -" Serena smiled back sheepishly. Suddenly, a car came to a screeching halt a small distance away from her. Serena turned to look at Mercedes-Benz which had its window rolling down as a familiar face popped out. It was Drew Hayden, the one she had met in the café and the mall. What was he doing here?
"Mr - uh, Drew?" Serena stuttered, remembering that they were on first name basis now. She hadn't expected to see him. Or more like, she hadn't expected him to stop the car on seeing her. It would have been understandable if he had drove past her. Drew removed his sunglasses and smiled at her in greeting.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, still smiling. He was wearing casuals and Serena guessed that he was probably having a day off. She wondered if she should ask him to give her a ride but considering her position as a mere attendant, it would be rude. Maybe she could ask him to lend her his phone for a minute.
"I was on my way to meet May" Serena replied, wiping the sweat from her forehead. Drew's eyes flickered her sweaty and tired face. He wasn't sure if she was trying to be fit by walking for this long or she wanted to save money. It was likely the second one to him. He was going to meet Gary but he changed his mind. Instead, he asked her.
"Do you want a ride?" It was merely out of politeness and concern but Serena saw a divine light behind his green hair. If the sun hadn't been so keen on roasting the Earth today, she might have hesitated. But this was definitely an opportunity she couldn't miss. It didn't matter whether Drew was busy or not.
"Yes! Please!" The honey blonde exclaimed, relieved and starry-eyed. Drew sweatdropped and signaled her to hop in. Serena was making her way to the opposite door when suddenly she remembered something. While talking to Drew, she had completely forgotten about the woman she had bumped into. She quickly turned around and to her disappointment, the lady had already left.
"You are coming right?" Drew peeked, twisting his neck to see Serena standing at looking at nothing. Serena frantically nodded, noticing that he had parked the car in the middle of the road. Well, not exactly the middle but enough to enrage a few stupid people driving recklessly on seeing a road with almost no cars in sight.
"Shall we go?" Drew asked, grinning when Serena almost melted from the cold air the air conditioner threw at her. Being too grateful to speak, the sapphire-eyed woman nodded in affirmative. As the car disappeared in a distance, the blue haired woman stepped out from behind the wall, her eyes narrowed in bewilderment.
"Who is she?"
"May!" Serena gushed, pulling the brunette in a big bear hug. The said one yelped in pain and happiness, shedding big tears. She had numerous fractured bones and countless wounds that were closed with the help of stitches. Her forehead also had a tiny yet unnoticeable scar beneath the bushy brown bangs. Despite being heavily injured, she was grinning from ear to ear.
"I am so happy to see you, Sere. You don't know how scared I was" May said, sincerely happy to see her friend. Serena sheepishly gave her a sympathetic smile. The hospital had called the blonde when the brunette had regained her consciousness and was adamant on getting out of there. It had taken Serena half an hour to explain the stubborn dimwit about the situation before she had finally calmed down.
"I am sorry. I guess, I just forgot about you?" It was supposed to be an answer that awkwardly popped out like a question. However, May only became offended at being forgotten by her bestfriend, someone she clung to like a soul-sister. Serena sweatdropped as she raised her hands in surrender and quickly change the subject before her friend could hurl insults at her. "By the way, May, meet Drew. I told you about him"
Drew, who was awkwardly shifting from one foot to another during the past ten minutes, perked up at the call of his name. He smiled and waved at May who grinned, observing him from head to toe.
"You are very handsome" She giggled as Drew became speechless, startled at her straightforward attitude. He had known that she wasn't someone who held her tongue during their first encounter. But still, it was weird to hear someone complimenting him so nonchantly, especially someone he had met only twice. Serena scowled at May, prodding her with her elbow.
"Oops, sorry. I got carried away" May apologized, not at all sorry and glared at the honey blonde who had secretly elbowed her. Drew ruffled his hair and awkwardly smiled.
"Don't worry and thanks for the compliment" He said. May looked at him and suddenly her focus was shifted on the One Direction t-shirt he was wearing. Sparkles filled her eyes as she clasped both her hands together, looking at Drew expectantly.
"You like One Direction?" She asked, excitedly. The green haired man looked down at his t-shirt and nodded, becoming equally enthusiastic as her. He had liked the band from a long time but his friends weren't very interested in them. Ash wasn't someone who often expressed his likes for music and Gary was more inclined towards k-pop bands. Even for May, it was similar. Serena always preferred Taylor or Selena more than any other singers.
"Night Changes is my favorite" Drew grinned.
"I really like that one too! But I think What Makes You Beautiful was the best!" May exclaimed.
They burst into excited exchange of conversation, with Serena left sitting alone by herself as she sweatdropped. She had come to tell May about the Hawaii plan but it seemed like it would take a while for her friend to cease her bubbly chattering before she gets a chance to speak. Neverthelessly, she was glad that May and Drew got along well despite getting on the wrong foot initially. It assured Serena that she could leave May in his care without worries.
