Chapter Two

“Ahh, that feels good” Kanae really didn't understand why more people didn't use scratching posts, they were a godsend.

“Kanae stop, you're getting your fur all over the place!”

“Ah Momo you spoilsport.”  She batted a paw at her pseudo sister playfully.

“You know I don't understand what you're saying, right?” Momo raised one elegant eyebrow.

“But that's what makes your reactions so, so amusing.”  Kane preened, smug and content on the couch where she'd stretched out after class. Honestly, if she wanted to relax in the comfort of her home as a cat, why shouldn't she?

She wasn't breaking any laws or harming anyone, we'll not if you counted Momo’s patience, but Kanae tended not to. Patience was ber favourite thing to harm. Nevertheless, she took her human form once again.

“So what did you think of our classmates? She asked curiously, tilting her head in a decidedly feline manner.

Momo hummed and took on a thoughtful expression. Then she turned fully to her cousin with her analysis.

“They're certainly strong, and all different. And that Midoriya-san seems rather unyielding in his determination, breaking his hand like that just for Sensei’s ruse.” She finally said, before continuing.

“Others stood out as well, Uraraka-san’s impressive score of infinity for one. Iida-san’s speed, Shouji-san’s impressive grip strength. Bakugou-san’s explosive speed and power to name a few.” Momo thought for a moment more before nodding, settled in her answer.

“Ah Momo you remember everyone's names already?” Kanae prodded, feeling slightly jealous of the lack of attention she was receiving during Momo’s retelling. Really some cat emotions were too much, she didn't need this now.

Momo blushed bashfully as she was prone to do and nodded.

Leaning forward Kanae stretched out her spine. “Well you are right in your observations, so we might as well see what we can find out tomorrow then.”

-----

The class really was louder than such a small room should be. And Kanae’s hope that the noise would die down were demolished when several of her classmates stopped in front if her. At the forefront was a horned pink girl that just seemed like a people's person. If only Kanae was a people person.

“Hi! I didn't get to introduce myself yesterday! I’m Mina Ashido! Your quirk is soo cool!” The horned girl said exuberantly as she leaned forward.

Inwardly Kanae shrunk back not unlike a scared animal, but outwardly she forced an awkward smile to her face and greeted the girl.

“Ah, thank you. I'm Kanae Yaoyorozu, pleased to meet you Ashido-san.” Kanae stood and politely extended her hand as she'd learned to over the years.

“Ooh,” Ashido stared at her hand before taking it. “fancy.~”

Kanae flushed slightly. She'd forgotten she was dealing with peers. How did people even do that?

What was different? Where the social cues any stranger from the potential business partners her parents dealt with? What if she offended someone? What if the-

"So Yaoyorozu-chan, you can turn into animals right!" Ashido continued brightly.

Fighting back the sudden ridiculous urge to squint at her brightness, Kanae replied.

"Ah, yes. So long as I know a bit about it first." She was startled when one of the others spoke up loudly and suddenly.

"That's so cool man! What's it like to be an animal?" His hair was as loud as he was, and bright red.

"Oh, uh. It's a relaxing experience unless I take too many forms in too short a time." Kanae said, thinking of the mood swings she was prone to have. Those were actual nighmares. "Can, can I go to my seat now? Class is starting soon."

The group looked surprised for a sec before looking at the clock. Then the redhead jumped in surprise.

"Wow! Time went by real quick. Talk to ya later then." He rushed to his seat before the rest of the group began to disperse as well.

Kanae sighed in relief before settling in her seat that was blessedly surrounded by calm, quiet individuals.

She did however smile at the Koji boy that had helped her previously. He was nice and something about him seemed naturally sweet, she could see herself befriending the timid boy.

-----

A class representative election then? Sure, her choice was easy. Momo had always helped her out whenever she needed it. And she wasn't very surprised when Momo tied for first either. Anyone with half a brain could see how amazing her cousin was.

In the end, Momo became vice president after a rock paper scissors match that was honestly painful to watch. The other candidate, the green ambitious one, was now their class president.

It was ridiculous that thir entire morning was spent that way, and by lunch, Kanae just wanted to stretch out in the sun. She slipped out of the crowd, sent a quick text to Momo, and slunk out of the building in her favourite cat form.

The Savannah cat was long and lean, widely considered the largest domestic cat. And she loved how much it freaked people out to see the striped and spotted beauty.

Soon enough she found a patch of carpeted floor that was radiating warmth from the nearby window. That's where she was when the alarm went off, and a strange misty figure entered to search the file cabinets.

Somehow, she managed not to alarm him, and decided to maintain a covert watch to inform an adult as soon as she could.

Thankfully, she was an amazing cat.

Stretching out and yawning, the feline strut up the intruder before sitting in front of him, staring as unnerving as she possibly could be. She meowed almost menacingly, staring the mist man straight in the eyes.

"And what are you doing here, Intruder?
