Chapter One: A Bloody Encounter

You know what I hate? The disciplinary committee. You know what I'm on? The disciplinary committee. Quite honestly, I didn't understand why I was on this committee, Yuki and Zero could handle it themselves. I had my hands full enough with homework and getting a decent amount of sleep, but as the sunset I had to go to work.

The crown of teenage girls and boys yelled at us because, and I quote, "We want to see the night class." No. Just no. They just want to look at the pretty boys/girls because the pictures you aren't supposed to have isn't enough.

Apparently, Zero and I were the only ones not attracted to at least one of the members of the night class. Zero hated all vampires despite him being one- yes, I know. I'm kinda a vampire-human after all. I liked to keep my distance from the night class fearing that they'd sense something in me. I was an anomaly- a mystery. A vampire with special needs, maybe. Yes, put me on the bus with the window eaters and crayon lickers.

The fangirls/fanboys/genderqueer fans screamed as the pretty people approached. The noise crescendoed as the enormous, metal gates opened and the vampires walked through the walkway provided by the disciplinary committee. I once had a dream about walking with them, but I quickly realized that I wasn't part of their world or the human world. I was an oddity cursed to be forever alone.

"This isn't fair!" one of the girl's cried. Well life wasn't fair. Life and death were true opposites with too many similarities. They both weren't fair and they both hurt the living. I was pulled out of my "poetic" state by the 'awws" of the disappointed day class went to their dorms.

"Come on, Annabel, time for watch," Yuki said happily. Her short hair bobbed behind her, giving her the impression of innocence. She was fairly naive and full of wanderlust about a world she didn't even fully comprehend.

"I know, Yuki, left me get some food first," I waved her off and quickly ran into the school. I entered the cafeteria and decided an apple would be good enough.

"How are you, Love?" a voice spoke from behind me. I rolled my eyes, recognizing the voice. I didn't give him the satisfaction of gaining my attention. "It's very rude to ignore people, Love."

Calmly, I turned around and raised my eyebrows at the blonde, "As the Brit, I feel like I'm the only one allowed to call people 'Love', Aido."

"Aren't you supposed to be patrolling, Love," Aido asked innocently. His blue eyes and blonde hair created an illusion of purity and innocence, unlike Yuki this one was false.

"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" I shot back.

"But, Love, class is so boring," Aido whined whilst approaching closer.

"Well I have to go through the boredom, too," I took a bite out of my apple, "Now get back to class before I report you."

Aido smirked, "Maybe I got hungry, too."

Out of all the weapons I had on me, which included twin anti-vampire knives and a regular pocket knife (for the pedophiles). I threw my apple at him. I wouldn't be a very good vampire slayer, but I think their slot for vampire vampire slayer was filled at the moment.

"Thanks," Aido said while pocketing my apple.

"Hey," I exclaimed.

Aido shrugged, "You threw it at me, Love, it's mine now."

I rolled my eyes in annoyance and self-anger, "Fine, just get to class. I have patrol to do."

"Fine then," Aido said uninterested, "See you around."

I watched him walk out of the cafeteria, "You owe me an apple!"

He just waved me off and I sighed. Time to get to work.

***

My eyes drooped as I tiredly headed up to my dorm. Zero and Yuki usually showered after patrol, but I didn't want to wait to go to bed. After all, I would be the last one to shower as they would claim "seniority" and I would claim that it didn't work like that as I was in the same class they were despite me being fifteen. I started early as Headmaster Cross wanted us to start the same year and the entry test wasn't hard at all.

My roommate, Moka Cantaka, was sleeping soundly like usually. She was the only one that stayed as my roommate. I'm an abusive sleeper and often hurt or wake others and sometimes myself. I got into bed and snuggled into my pillows, my eyes fluttered shut, but sleep did not betake me. Sleeping during the night had always been hard on me. Old habits die hard.

My life was two different people; Day Annabel and Night Annabel. Day Annabel was quiet and content. It was when Night Annabel took over that my thoughts became disastrous. Memories of bright lights, padded walls, the smell of bleach, and constant noises invaded my thoughts as I fell asleep.

White walls surrounded me, enveloped me. My heartbeat stuck in my throat as cleaner reverberated my senses. I looked down at my feet. Crimson blood covered them, startling me back into the soft wall behind me.

I knew this place, I'd been here for what seemed like a lifetime. My parents were here even longer. This was my own personal hell. This was the picture that history would paint me as, a scared girl that caused the demise of her family. The demise of the most powerful European Pureblood family.

"It was your fault," a familiar voice said.

I turned swiftly to see a girl who looked like me. Better than me. Her hair reached her lower back, her eyes were sharper, her face was narrower, she was curvier. She was a vampire.

"Who are you?" I asked, hating myself for the fear that came out.

She smirked, "Everything you're not."

It wouldn't take a genius to figure that one out. She was obviously everything my parents wanted in a child, especially the vampire part. I knew my parents had secretly felt overworked by my "disability". It was like they were raising a human. They didn't get the same results with my sister Emmeline. She was beautiful, sweet, powerful, and most of all, a vampire. Cordelia Sophia and Augustine Nathaniel Quinn were happier over Emmeline Amelia Evenly Quinn than Annabel Diana Ambrosia Quinn. I was nothing

"It was your fault," the vampire me spoke again. I looked towards my blood covered feet.

"I know."
