I type quickly into the computer, it's glowing screen reflecting onto my face. My fingers fly, searching things about my unknown family faster and faster, but all the results are the same, nothing I haven't seen before. You can tell I've done this before. Once, I had to break into Joe's office, and Joe got really mad. I was only twelve, but all I could find on the computer was news articles. All of them were fake to me but real to the rest of the world. Headlines blurred the front pages with sayings like

"Henry Allen kills wife Nora."

"Man kills wife Nora, leaving their child."

I had gone to bed crying that night. I'd refused the amazing microwavable mac n' cheese, which was usually a favorite of mine(and still is.) Once I was done with the crying, I packed my bags and made a pile of pillows in my bed so nobody knew I was gone. I was off. When I asked Joe how he could tell I'd left, he said the window was open, blue light from the night shining in. I kept on looking at the computer screen, but nothing showed. The tv blared in the background. Turning to face it, I grinned- the particle accelerator was about to start! (I'd been keeping up with its progress at STARlabs.com)

All of a sudden, the particle accelerator blew up, red smoke billowing from the sides. The tv flickered off. I looked around and realized all the liquids around me had started to float. Just like when my mom died. Was this a sign? I reached forward to grasp one when it started to rain. I tried to close the skylight, and something hit me from behind. I barely had time to look up.
