I closed my phone, shoving it in my back pocket as I marched past several families to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The sky had darkened and the light came from tiki torches lining the streets of Adventure Land. I marched right on over to Pirates where I saw Dylan leaning against the entrance to the ride.
"This better be important or you took me away from Peter Pan for nothing," I crossed my arms as he turned to look at me.
"It is, believe me, come on, I've got a surprise," he grinned, taking my arm and dragging me into the ride. The room was dark and the sound of water and chatter was what I heard as I entered the ride's atmosphere. Dylan and I got onto one of the many boats, the seats still wet from when you get splashed. The boat took off, the shadows of trees and a house giving an eery feel with the few sources of light available.
"What's the surprise Dylan?" I inquired as the boat moved slowly through a tunnel.
"Be patient young grasshopper," he chastised. After a little while we entered the part of the ride where all the pirates treasure is and on the rocks, completely out of place, was a barrel that was cut to substitute for a table which currently had two Italian sodas and a candle that looked like it could go out at any second. My eyebrows flew up as Dylan grinned like a puppy beside me, before taking my hands and dragging me onto shore.
"I thought we weren't allowed to get off the boats," I spoke as he dragged me to the make-shift table, where we both sat cross-legged on the hard floor and sipped gingerly on Italian Soda.
"Don't ruin the moment-"
"I'm ruining it-"
"A toast, to the most embarrassing thing I will admit in my life," Dylan raised his glass bottle, which I clinked glasses with, and we both took in sync gulps. "Malia, Mali, whatever, when I first talked to you, I thought you were another one of those typical female protagonists that was sassy sarcastic, loved Ed Sheeran, and had a weird obsession with oversized sweaters and messy buns." he said confidently, as I just smirked, "then I realized, you are that typical girl, but you aren't in love with Ed Sheeran and don't wear oversize sweaters or messy buns, you are Mali. You are special. You are different," I laughed at the beginning and I can see how it calmed Dylan's nerves because he wasn't shaking as bad as before. "And that's, that's why i love you, because you are you and that will never change," he exclaimed. I stood up, so we were both standing and facing each other.
"That's why I love you too, Dylan," I smile, awkwardly, because I've never loved someone before, happily, because he loved me back, and excitedly, because this is possibly the best thing to have happened to me so far in my life.
"This is where we make out right?" Dylan spoke in the best poker face he could muster, in a way where I knew he fell into his playful personality.
"Oh totally," I smirked, walking around the barrel table and bringing Dylan's lips to my own. What's better then going to Disneyland for your birthday? Being able to spend that time with the person you love.
