they were still in the same position when jeongguk woke up because of the sun attacking his eyes through his eyelids.

he took a small while to process where he was and especially why was his back hurting that much, until he remembered he had spent the night with taehyung.

he clenched his fist just a little and felt taehyung's hand in his. he felt the merman clench his fist back to indicate him he was awake already.

"did you sleep well?" he heard him ask in his hair. the boy hummed sleepily before hiding his face in taehyung's neck to hide the sun.

he could feel his warm breath on the side of his face and even though he knew very well he had to leave he couldn't, it just felt way too good.

taehyung let him stay in his arms for a small while before whispering 'you have to go koo you'll be late..'. he heard the boy whine in his neck before he sat up and stretched his arms.

the merman cooed at his puffy face and cupped his cheeks to squish them slightly. "you're so cute!" he cheered and sat up too.

"can you put me back in the water please my skin stings.." he asked while sliding his arms around jeongguk's neck who immediately walked to the water.

the merman swam around for a small bit before going back to jeongguk who was just watching him with caring eyes.

he settled between his thighs and rested his head on his left one, his cheek squished. jeongguk cooed and brushed his hair off his forehead out of reflex.

"don't forget me!" taehyung joked and splashed a bit of water on the boy.

"you know i would never." he replied calmly before hugging him one last time and getting up. he put his hands in his pocket naturally and gasped when he realized what he had almost forgotten.

"hey look, i made sure water wouldn't damage it." he put a small piece of plastic in the merman's hands. he smiled widely when he recognized the picture jeongguk had taken of them two.

he stared at it for a small while and then brought it to his chest as to hug it. jeongguk couldn't help but coo at his adorable behavior.

"thank you so much koo! i'll take good care of it! i promise!" he said while showing the most genuine smile jeongguk had ever seen.

"i'm glad you like it pretty.. maybe you'll miss me less."

"that's impossible you know it. when are you coming back exactly?" he asked so he could be there when jeongguk will come back.

"i think i'll be there in exactly seven days, but my plane lands at night.." he pouted.

"alright. i'll be there when you come back. bye handsome have fun!"

"i will i promise." he replied softly before walking away.

and taehyung really kept his promise to be there when jeongguk comes back. the boy was walking to his house when he looked at the beach and saw a pretty pink sparkling tail swaying from side to side.

he smiled when he remembered asking taehyung to move his tale when he was lying on the sand so he wouldn't think he's dead, and taehyung had always done it since then.

the boy quickly dropped all of his stuff on his bed before undressing and putting swim shorts on. he ran all the way down to his beach and shouted taehyung's name to catch his attention.

he ran on his rock and jumped in the sea. he only saw darkness as he kept his eyes shut tight, so the salty water wouldn't get inside of them, but he clearly felt warm hands grip his sides.

he extended his hands to reach taehyung's body, and even though he couldn't see him it was like he could perfectly picture him through his lids, so he didn't take long to find his neck and lightly wrap his fingers at the back.

he felt taehyung move and he was soon at the surface, taking a big gulp of air. he shook his head fast to get rid of the tickling droplets and then he opened his eyes to meet taehyung's terrified ones.

"w-what's wrong?" he stuttered out as he looked around to see if they were going to be eaten by a shark.

"why did you jump?" taehyung asked back quickly. "you could've drowned!" he added and pulled jeongguk closer to him, but the boy was totally clueless.

the water was calm, and he knew he could dive in the sea without hitting any rocks from his usual spot. he didn't get why taehyung seemed so worried, but then he realized the merman was still holding his waist tightly, close to his warm body, and it clicked.

a small smile made its way to his lips and he said "hey, pretty, you know humans can swim right?" his smile grew wider when taehyung looked at him like he had just blurted out the biggest stupidity.

the boy retracted his hands from his neck and unwrapped his soft fingers from his waist. taehyung had a panicked expression as he let go of him but it all softened when he saw the boy swimming around, soon joining him.

jeongguk stopped after a small while and swam back to taehyung, sliding his arms around his strong neck to stay at the surface. the merman's hands immediately found their way back to jeongguk's thin waist.

"i.. i heard that humans died when they were in the ocean without a mermaid to guide them.." he explained. the boy smiled again and traced circles on his neck with his thumbs.

"we can swim, we just can't stay underwater for too long as we don't have.. those." he explained and let his thumbs ghost over taehyung's gills.

the merman's eyes shut tight which made jeongguk panic. "oh shit sorry did that hurt?" he asked quickly but taehyung smiled.

"no.. it actually feels nice." his voice was almost shaky, jeongguk concluded that this spot was a very sensitive one and he could definitely use it.

the merman finally took some time to examine jeongguk's body. he had muscles literally everywhere, it made him quite jealous but he also wanted to cling onto him and never let go.

he looked at the new chain around his neck and going underwater. curiosity took over so he put his eyes underwater to discover one of the purple shells he had offered the boy.

he had his mouth wide opened in surprise when he went back to the surface. his eyes were sparkling even more than usual and his cheeks turned a bright pink when jeongguk touched his gills again.

"it suits you so well.." he breathed out with his eyes closed, taking in the feeling of jeongguk's finger on his sensitive spot.

"thank you pretty.. i got it done in new york. i wanted to have it with me all the time." he explained while looking at the shell hanging on his toned chest.

taehyung placed his hand with the jewel jeongguk had given him next to the shell, his hand flat on his pectoral which made the boy's breath hitch in his throat.

"now we're always with each other. even when you're at work." he mumbled softly. he let his eyes travel on jeongguk's now tanned skin and he saw the goosebumps all over his body.

"a-are you cold? do you want to get out of the water?" he asked and pulled the boy in his warm embrace out of reflex.

jeongguk smiled and nuzzled his face in taehyung's neck. "just a bit more please" he whispered and wrapped his arms around taehyung's neck tighter.

the merman did the same before pulling on his thighs to wrap them around his tail. "your legs are so pretty." he blurted out and let his hands grip them.

jeongguk only put his hand in his pink hair as to thank him like he always did. they stayed like that for a small while until jeongguk was shaking because of the cold.

taehyung pulled away first and whispered "you should get out, i don't want you to freeze and die here." they chuckled quietly and jeongguk finally swam away so he could get onto his rock, only to realize he didn't bring any towel.

he rushed back to taehyung who was near the sand and cupped his cheeks. "i have to go pretty or i'm gonna get sick. i have some free days because of the jet lag as last time, so i'll be with you a lot." he explained.

his gaze softened when he saw taehyung's pout and his round puppy eyes. he brushed his nose with his and whispered "don't pout pretty." above his lips.

taehyung's cheeks turned a bright pink but he pulled his lip back in place. jeongguk smiled at him in adoration. "have a good night." he whispered again and let go of his face.

he waved at him before rushing to his house to take a warm shower and then go to sleep as it was already pretty late.

for once it was taehyung who waited until he couldn't see jeongguk anymore to leave, a wide smile on his lips that he tried to erase but couldn't. he was way too happy to have his jeonggukie back.
