It was all like a bad dream.

The heart pirate's submarine was right in their line of sight, all they had to do was jump on board and zoom off, off and far away from this island turned battle zone.

They only had one remaining obstacle in their way, the fucking navy admiral that was literally standing right in front of them.

A sliver of sweat went down Law's face, he was the most nervous about this, his crew was everything to him, they were the only thing keeping him from falling down the pit of loneliness and never coming back out, one more emotional hit would be the end of him, for good.

Then there was the other thing he had to protect, his one treasure, the boy with innocent childish eyes, a red tail that he could stare at for hours on end and never fail to see why it was so beautiful, a voice as delicate as glass, the mermaid he fell in love with that had a heart of gold.

Luffy.

The sea prince was the only thing keeping Law completely stable, without him Law would go back to a tortured life, slowly being eaten away by his lack of love and continuing to have terrifying nightmares that would drive him completely insane, dreams that would taunt him, telling him how alone he would always be.

Yes, he had his crew by him but, he could never tell them how damaged he really was.

He had to keep making them believe that he was that strong, cold and independent person he always made himself be, all in order to keep them feeling safe and protected, and it was the only way to keep others off his back, show them who's boss.

Luffy was the only exception, the boy pried his way into his empty, broken shell of a beating heart and actually decided to care for it, he nurtured it, finally healing up those scars that Law could never stitch up himself.

The raven was his miracle, he never wanted to find himself back into a life before Luffy, the surgeon was even more terrified of a life after his ocean, especially a life after losing him, because he knew that was a life he wouldn't last long in.

And he was on the brake of losing that person right now.

Time seemed to freeze as the admiral took a lazy, threatening step forward, just driving Law mad knowing he was just toying with them, already knowing he had the power to devastate his whole world, "ooohhh, well okay, this is how it's gonna go"

The pirates stiffened in slight fear, the aura this man was giving off was just too damn suffocating! "Now, I actually only have orders to eliminate the one who struck the tenryuubito..."

The raven felt his heart gradually slow down, he just couldn't find the strength to breathe, the fear and panic was an effective paralysis.

"It was me"

Now the whole world froze, not believing his ears Law nervously stared into the direction he heard the voice, tears brimmed his steel eyes seeing the calm look on his mermaid's features, like the boy already accepted death, but he didn't, god dammit he didn't and he never will.

"Luffy-ya, don't you dare.." it was useless, the captain's voice came out nothing but a broken whisper which never caught the deaf ears of his mermaid, his words were as if he had never spoken, lost to the breeze.

The supernova slowly felt himself wither inside as the bored looking marine started towards his lover.

'Move' 'Protect him' 'He's in danger' 'REACT DAMMIT!' The soft voice in Law's head echoed through his mind, but his head was too blank to understand the words and react.

Memories started to flash apon his vision with each step the admiral made

Flashbacks~

"Torao?" Looking down from his comfortable perch above the sea tank, Law paused to admire the water's reflection dance on his shiny tail, it was something the doctor swore he could do all day if he could.

Blinking at the boy's rounded, soft face, the captain retained his stoic expression and merely continued to stare at him in wonder, "yes?" Although he really wanted a closer look, Law stopped himself from reaching out when the mermaid lazily drifted closer to where he could barely reach him.

"I think you're cool" the comment was unexpected, albeit a very nice suprise though, even if his face remained the same, Luffy giggled at the soft blush that dared to creep out on his cheeks, not knowing how enamored the human really was.

Watching the boy from afar, Law smirked as his ocean got along with his crew, making them laugh, occasionally stealing their food, the captain was even shocked to say that the boy somehow made Sachi and Penguin admit that they were in fact childhood friends after weeks of denial.

Seeing how they all got along, Law felt himself become hollow when a stray thought caught his mind, imagining back when Luffy wasn't here, this room would actually be much more quiet.

Luffy made things better, and just wondering what would happen if the boy suddenly jumped ship and ditched them all was beginning to scare him, Law wouldn't have payed any mind to it before, but the raven was somehow making him become attached.

Sitting at his table, Law calmly chewed up his rice balls, glancing to the other men, smirking as they all stabbed at their food and shoved it into their mouths at the speed of light, but even if they went that fast, Luffy was still able to swipe their food.

"Ahh! Noooo! My beloved strawberry danish!" Yorokobi nearly burst into tears as Luffy happily shoved the cook's pastry in his greedy mouth, already still full of other unfortunate meals he swiped.

As the poor man sulked over his food, the crew laughed at his misfortune, causing Law to chuckle in amusement, before Luffy was ever around no one dared to be this rowdy in the morning, blinking at his own thoughts, the captain's smirk soon faded into a neutral expression.

He couldn't help but wonder, what would happen to this place after all the magic Luffy brought with him vanished?

Blinking open his eyes, Law glanced to his porthole and squinted at the bright sunlight that escaped through, glancing down, he smiled at the black puff of hair that belonged to the boy asleep in his arms.

No matter what he did, Law would always wake up having Luffy tight in his embrace, it was almost even under the influence of sleep, the pirate was attracted to the boy, he was helpless to deny the power of his charms.

Letting out a deep sigh, Law gently kissed his head, letting his arms loop around the boy just a little tighter, sometimes he'd have nightmares, ones where he'd wake up with his ocean gone, or sometimes waking up to find that he never existed, and those were just too frightening.

Yes, too frightening indeed.

Listening to the mermaid hum, Law got lost into a dream, smiling as he and the boy danced together inside it, they were perfect, he was perfect, Law couldn't love the little ocean any more.

As the two twirled together in harmony, suddenly everything became dark, and Law choked in horror as the younger raven was yanked from his embrace, even though he reached out for him, the captain just couldn't reach Luffy no matter how hard he tried.

He screamed in mortification, watching helplessly as the mermaid suddenly started to dissolve into tiny particles that evaporated into nothing, Law could only reach out, barely reaching the tip of his beloved's fingers before he disappeared.

Luffy jolted, seeing Law's eyes fly open before erupting tears, soft cries were muffled as Law hid his face in Luffy's lap, refusing to fall to that dream, refusing to just lay down and let his ocean go.

End of flashbacks~

Law's POV

I blinked, realizing the admiral was already standing before my beloved Luffy-ya in position to strike, I was internally screaming and shouting and screeching bloody murder.

But I couldn't.

It was as if someone pulled my shut down switch, as soon as the admiral fliched a bit though, that's when all the actions I've been trying to do finally came out all at once.

In a blinding movement I unsheathed Kikoku and burst towards that fucking government dog.

Just as I was about to swing my sword and retaliate, Bepo-ya shoved me to the ground.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing Bepo-ya!?"

My voice was still weak but it came out much stronger this time, "wait, captain I think Luffy-san's up to something, let's believe in him and watch"

As much as I wanted to refuse I silently found myself agreeing as I just stared at the two, quickly noticing neither noticed my little homicide attempt, how frustrating.

"Do you have any last words, boy?"

The admiral started to glow, ready to kick or punch him through the island to his death making me feel straight down sick.

"Actually, just an introduction, I'm Monkey D. Luffy!"

Suddenly the navy officer stopped his about-to-be assault and let out a somewhat suprised whistle, "phoooooo! I apologize sir, I didn't recognize you as the ocean's reincarnation...well, carry on"

The admiral suddenly disappeared in a flash of light leaving us all alone in front of the ship.
