Things have changed
I AM SO SO SO SO SORRY!!!!! This is another version of how things have changed could've gone and this one might have part two, I don't know yet.Anyway, enjoy. PLEASE NOTE: for 1st paragraph, imagine the hunger games except it's whole teams that work together, not just one person and there are more than two people per team and time passes differently there.
Arthur and almost all his knights were running for their life. They had been captured by sorcerers and put in an arena where they had to kill to survive. Being as noble as they were, they had all made sure only to kill in self defence. They had no idea how long they had been in there, maybe months, maybe a year, but defiantly no more than two years. They tried to keep track, the sometimes lost two, three days, a week at most and now, they had finally escaped the Arena. The Arena had walls surrounding it but, there was a gate every once in a while and they managed to open it.
They had no idea if Elyan and Merlin were safe, if Gwen was alright, if Camelot was even still standing. For all they knew it could be nothing but rubble. They needed to get home. While running they ran into a man, maybe in his mid-twenties, maybe early. he had messy black hair that seemed it could never be tamed. Somehow, it looked strangely familiar but they couldn't quite place him. He was wearing black trousers, a red tunic that was sleeveless, showing large tanned and toned arms. He had worn out black boots and he was carrying a crossbow. He had intense bright blue eyes that looked as though they were scanning for a battle plan.
"What do you lot think you're all doing out here! Especially in Camelot uniforms! Are you all crazy or just suicidal?" The man exclaimed, his words confusing the knights.
"I am the king of Camelot! Who are you to call me and my knights crazy?" Arthur demanded.
"Dont take me for a fool. He and the Round Table knights, minus one, disappeared almost thirty years ago, nice try. Now tell me who you really are." The man demanded, now pointing his crossbow at them threateningly.
"How dare you threaten the King of Camelot! Show some respect, peasant!" Leon demanded.
"Ha! Peasant, maybe you aren't from around here." The man mused, "Let's say you are the king, what was the name of his wife's father?" the man tested.
"Tom." Arthur said immediately, remembering the blacksmith clearly.
"Hmm, OK then, next question: what was the name of his last manservant?" He asked, interested.
"Merlin." Everyone chorused.
"Hmm. You know, those were too easy. What was the name of Merlin's father?" The man decided.
"Trick question, Merlin never met his father." Arthur said. The man paused for a moment, surveying each of them in turn, his eyes lingering on Arthur, before speaking again.
"Fine. Follow me, we need to get you out of that Camelot stuff." he grumbled, turning around and walking off.
Arthur and the knights followed, wondering who this guy was, and why was it wrong to wear the Crests of Camelot. They travelled for what seemed like ages before they reached a castle that was definitely not Camelot. It was smaller, and without the familiarity and sense of safety Camelot gave, even to foreign visitors.
"First, I'll answer your questions, then show you to the Queen. Maybe then we shall decide what to do with you lot." The man decided, taking them to a throne room.
In the middle of the room, there was round table. Arthur saw this and it reminded him painfully of his friends, who might not even be alive anymore for all he knew."
"What happened to everyone after we vanished?" Arthur asked after very long internal debate, his curiosity overwhelming.
"Well, Queen Guinevere ruled alone for about three years before she made peace with the witch, Morgana. We're not sure what changed her mind about attacking, but we presume it was the chances of her magic being accepted. The Queen sent countless patrols out for you, obviously with no luck. You were all presumed dead." The stranger paused a moment to let them process this. Arthur couldn't take the thoughts of what he had put his Gwen through.
"Two years later, she couldn't take the grief and...well she isn't around anymore. Since Morgana was the only heir to the Pendragon bloodline, She became queen of Camelot. The court physician, Gaius had died after a particularly nasty disease that had just formed, so he hadn't built an immune system to it yet. His death affected many. Since Merlin was the only one with any medical experience, He became temporary court physician until they found a permanent one, which after a year or two, luckily happened. By then, Queen Morgana had fallen for Merlin, as he to her, and they married."
The knights gasped. Merlin had married Morgana? They couldn't imagine it. But then they thought back to when Morgana had been on their side, and just how close the two had been, and suddenly the image wasn't so hard to comprehend.
"It had been six years after you had vanished by this time. The next year, Morgana discovered that she was with child. It was a boy, they named him Arthur after their lost bother and friend. Since Merlin technically didn't have a last name, He became a Pendragon so, little Arthur became Arthur the second. After Arthur had turned eleven years of age, Merlin's mother, Hunith, died. He decided to take out his grief by uniting the other lands, but things took a wrong turn about two years after and he's been gone ever since. Nobody knows if he's alive or not. Morgana has ruled by herself from then. About five years ago, invaders took over Camelot and burned it to the ground. Morgana didn't survive but, Arthur did. The invaders changed everything about Camelot; the colours, the crest, the castle, the rulers... everything. Camelot became Kestrel after the founder of their little group. It is treason to wear the previous crest of Camelot anywhere now. Right now, we're in Cendred's old lands- King Merlin had become allies with him early on, so most of the old royal family and staff took refuge here." The man finished with a sigh, as if he could feel the years of pain and loss oppressing him as he recalled it. The knights were silent with shock. Gwen was dead. Gaius was dead. Merlin had been, or possibly still was, the King of Camelot, but was missing. Morgana had been queen, but had now died. They had a son. Camelot was lost, now called Kestrel. Everything had changed.
"Wow." Gwaine broke the silence, "Merlin as a king. Who would have guessed? And Morgana, nice again? Gwen...Wait, what happened to Elyan?" Arthur was silent, soaking the information in. He had lost his wife, his sister, Gaius, and the entirety of Camelot. He was an uncle.
"Queen Guinevere's brother?" the man asked, faintly surprised, "He is old now, but if you are who you say you are, he may recognize you. Hmm...I wonder...You've given me an idea. Let's go see if he knows you. If he does, I'll know for certain you're telling the truth. If not...I'll leave that to your imagination." The man decided, a look in his eyes assuring them that he wasn't joking.
"What is your name?" Leon asked, relieved they might at least still see Elyan again...and possibly Merlin.
"My name is-" The started before a wailing alarm cut him off.
